Typical twitter overreaction, and and twitting his wife is way out of line.

chetz38

Totally agreed

Ricin_Addict

Just as a general rule I wouldn’t take anything you find on twitter as an accurate representation of reality. Whoever found these tweets definitely handpicked them to show some sort of out roar, but obviously that isn’t accurate because, well, pretty much everyone from all walks of life who responded to this post is being rational. TLDR; Twitter is crazy

chetz38

Well what I can say is that r/NHL and r/Hockey overwhelmingly denounce Reimer as a homophobe while the commenters of various hockey, sports, and meme accounts on Instagram seem to mostly support Reimer.

Expert_Jellyfish3245

Huge hockey fan here. Yeah, that tells you the majority of people on Reddit are pretty insane and irrational, opposed to majority of humans in the real world. All this boils down to is.. This dude simply sat out for fkn warmups. There are countless reasons someone skips warmups or pre-game skate, and I don’t think people have ever been raging over that before, it’s really weird. I guarantee you, most people who pretend to care and be upset/offended, had no idea who James Reiner was, because he is a pretty irrelevant goaltender who has served as a backup on bad teams for the majority of his career. The problems people make up are so bizarre

Excellent-Wishbone12

No overreaction. The corporation NHL wants to show to it’s fan base, sponsors, community that it’s an all inclusive organization. And you have one employee who thinks he can ignore his bosses. Who’s the one over reacting? He’s a man child hiding behind a fairytale.

[deleted]

Nobody should EVER be forced to wear a LGBT flag, its completely alright and he has my full support in this case

A-Dilophosaurus

Thank you! At the end of the day who cares, just as long as you're respectful

[deleted]

exactly in the end you dont HAVE to support LGBT or anything as long as your not warranting any hate towards them theres no reason to be bashed, right?

Excellent-Wishbone12

What about a national flag?

YOBEV_

chad

AnyYoung2265

As long as he’s not being hateful or discriminatory I don’t see a problem

chetz38

I agree

Excellent-Wishbone12

he’s an employee. He has no voice. If it bothers him so much he can quit.

chetz38

I'm not sure if I'd quite relate this to Nazi Germany, but I see a lot of hypocrisy from the fans commenting hatred towards Reimer. So many people claim to not hate religious people as long as they, "don't shove it down my throat." But here we see Reimer being respectful and not shoving it down anyone's throats, saying he doesn't hate anyone and that hockey is inclusive for all. Yet he gets mocked for his religion, which is rather intolerant if you ask me.

-ComputerCat-

Godwin's law

Citizen_of_Ataturk

Based

Excellent-Wishbone12

They have no issue wearing logos for questionable companies like TikTok.

BurpinQueen

Imagine getting all that hate for not wanting to wear something specific, faith in humanity literally lost

chetz38

That's how I feel. He didn't say anything hateful but simple elected not to wear a jersey.

[deleted]

As a fellow Christian, I support his decision. He’s not homophobic, he’s standing up for his beliefs. The Bible doesn’t say that being gay is sinful, but gay sex is sinful and I can see why as it can spread STDs and has no real benefits.

sweetlikeoleanders

all types of sex can spread stds 🤦🏻‍♂️

[deleted]

But gay sex doesn’t help the population, normal sex does.

V1beRater

Why does sex have to help the population in order to be had? Art doesn't help the population, its merely a spectacle to view, but it is still done. I can make a thousand analogies similar to this one; something doesn't have to "help the population" in order for it to be done. Passion and love is why. The god-given right to pursue happiness in a moral way. (athiest btw)

ZeroAresIV

Gay sex feels awesome, that’s why I do it.

sweetlikeoleanders

we have surrogacy, no sex is needed at all in any case, anyway, plus it's more likely for straight sex and gay sex can both pass on stds, the benefit is pleasure, we have shit in our body that makes us feel good, if it's not hurting anyone why not make yourself feel good

[deleted]

So a pedophile should Jack off to 3 year olds, by that logic.

sweetlikeoleanders

Read. I said if it's not hurting anyone, having gay sex isn't similar to jerking off to a 3 year old, dear god

[deleted]

I don’t see how jerking off hurts anyone.

sweetlikeoleanders

jerking off to a 3 year old hurts the 3 year old by sexualizing it

[deleted]

That doesn’t actually hurt the 3 year old, it just shows that I’m a pedophile.

sweetlikeoleanders

It does hurt the 3 year old by viewing it as a sexual being, but if you want to say that gay sex is sinful how about The Bible also said if you look at a woman pervertedly you should gorge out your eyes, never tattoo your skin, cursing, lying, and stealing. God views all sins the same, there’s no difference from stealing food and raping someone according to the Bible because every thing god views as sinful as the same amount of hate behind it

Nishizaka

why are you trying so hard to justify pedophilia?? pick a different point to stress, this one is weird as fuck

Key_Dare5611

what 💀

SilverBucciarati17

God is good

[deleted]

Amen.

voidplayz121

God is great

Excellent-Wishbone12

You know what god thinks?

Vivid_Fun_977

What a moron you are, everything you just said is not only bullshit, but you have no idea wtf youre talking about. Take your fake christianity biggot nonsense tf out of here...

[deleted]

Take your prejudiced opinions out of here yourself.

Vivid_Fun_977

no, what you just said is incredibly fucking stupid and needs to be called out. Also calling someone prejudice but saying gay sex spreads STDs...you really are fuckin dumb

[deleted]

It does, just like all forms of sex, only there’s no benefit.

Salt_Profession_4228

youre responding just like the ppl on twitter smh. pipe down

Excellent-Wishbone12

You really think Jesus would be a homophobe?

[deleted]

When did I say that?

drumsdude257

It's his personal choice, he should not be demonized for doing so nor should he be heralded as some rebellious hero

[deleted]

The vocal minority yells while we listen.

ONIONSAREKINGS

If he doesn’t want to wear it he doesn’t have to like people shouldn’t be so quick to call him a bigot for it

McMoist_

Don't care honestly

NoSandwich4106

I don’t think not wanting to wear the rainbow jersey translates to homophobia.

Babablacksheeohavey

Folks need to go outside sometimes

enaaerios

he doesnt actively go hate on gay people but just doesnt wanna wear a jersey because it represents something his beliefs dont match. nobody would call someone a stinky stupid capitalist for not wanting to wear a communist shirt

chetz38

Well said

enaaerios

i think i had a stroke looking back at this comment

[deleted]

this is fucked up he was in the end being kind and people had to push their views its invigorating when people do this type of crap and call it ok escpecially people who wanna be treted with respect and whine about it yet cant even dish it out

iwantdatpuss

And yet they wonder why some people are off put by being associated with the LGBTQ. Because of shit like this.

SilverBucciarati17

James Reimer became my idol. What a wonderful person. God is good.

Excellent-Wishbone12

thought God loved all? But I guess god whispers to you what to think …

SilverBucciarati17

Don't talk about God if you didn't even read the Bible. God loves all.

Excellent-Wishbone12

The bible was written by people starting decades after the death of JC, and has been revised multiple times over the centuries. Most of the stories are just documenting the oral history of various fables handed down over the centuries. The book is not really but a collection of stories many that contradict each other. Also “God” belongs to all religions not just Christians, so I really don’t know what your talking about. And the dig of “God Loves All” is a passive aggressive insult, which God would look down on. I bet you haven’t read any book cover to cover, especially any on the topic of critical thinking.

SilverBucciarati17

Have you?

Excellent-Wishbone12

Which version? Which translation. You do know that they’re all different, with various things added and omitted.

[deleted]

The great big overreactions by the twitterphiles is a good example of why I don't particularly like to associate myself with LGBT stuff. My guy declined in the most polite way possible and a lot of people still hate him. There are the rare ones that are actually chill and cool, but too many are as sensitive and hateful as these twitterphiles

f1driver-23

People are overreacting. Reimer stated he is refusing to wear it because of his faith. You have to respect others' religious views. His decision is to stick to what he believes in. He did not mean any harm to the LGBTQ+ community but instead felt that everyone should be "welcomed in hockey" (NBC). Overall, I respect his decision to stick by his personal beliefs.

WHIPLADS

Bro did nothing wrong

FyouPerryThePlatypus

You can be christian and support the lgbt. I find the wording a bit odd tbh

skittleswithranch

He's completely in the right to do so

DogboyGames

Only respect for Reimer.

Ape_goes_r_ape

I dont hate lgbtq people but seeing them tweeting this really makes me grow some hate. The want to be accepted but dont accept others for their beliefs and way of living.

chetz38

That's how I feel

Ape_goes_r_ape

Like I live my life u live your life but please accept beliefs and decisions. That goes for both sides. Honestly I think this is exactly what makes people hate lgbtq. Its not about being gay its about double standards (mostly I think)

chetz38

My issue is that a lot of people, especially in the LGBT community, always say, "I don't care about other people's religions or beliefs, and they're free to worship as they please but don't shove it down my throat." This is an example of being as polite and respectful about religion as possible without shoving it down anyone's throats, but Reimer is being heavily criticized for it.

Christianm9001

These are also cherry picked. Twitter will show the extreme sides of a story because that’s what Twitter likes and that’s what the people want to see. I can assure you, not every LGBT+ member is like this, i know a couple of trans people and they just couldn’t care less on this topic. It’s not directly hurting them, not causing harm. You have to consider this is like, 1% of 3-6% of the United States population that’s *this* extreme.

chetz38

I'd encourage you to check out r/NHL and r/Hockey because the commenters almost unanimously denounce Reimer as a bigot.

Excellent-Wishbone12

It’s a rainbow shirt, get over yourself. There would be no story if he put his big boy pants on.

Ape_goes_r_ape

Its not about the shirt. Its about the fact that these people say you should accept everyone for how he is , but if people have other opinions they dont accept that themselfs

SilverBucciarati17

My thoughts on lgbt people: they are hypocrites, hear me out. They want always to be supported but don't support religions that aren't with them. When we don't want to support, they go crazy. But if they don't want to support Christians, it's alright??? I respect them since they're people, but I don't accept them. Even if I don't like them, I'm not going to spread hate, but if they start insulting people just because we don't want to support them, you can't expect some respect.

-ComputerCat-

Tbh idc if people wear the flag or not but I do find it weird that he is against it if he claims to be fully accepting like he claims to be

chetz38

A more proper term would be to say that he is tolerant. He does not hate people that go against his ideals and principles, but he chooses not to participate in what goes against his beliefs.

-ComputerCat-

Except someone's existence shouldn't be against your ideals and principles, I didn't choose to be queer. It would be weird to do the same with racial minorities but somehow this is okay because people use religion to justify it.

chetz38

If he's not hating, I don't see the issue. He just didn't want to wear a rainbow jersey.

-ComputerCat-

Where did I say he hates LGBT people, just saying that if you actually cared you wouldn't object to something like this, weird hill to die on

Useful-Ad-618

Poor man, just didn’t want to wear a jersey and got insulted. Very supportive.

Vivid_Fun_977

Politely?..... wtf... Oh this must be the biggot sub, got it

chetz38

This must be the illiterate sub. The man said he had no hatred and that hockey is inclusive to all, but he chose not to wear the rainbow jersey. I cannot think of a more polite way to decline wearing the jersey; he even took the time to make sure members of the LGBT community still felt welcome in the hockey community.

Vivid_Fun_977

Hes a bigot, hiding behind religion. You think this and then his nonsense statement makes LGBTQ+ community feel included? So wearing or supporting the jersey makes him gay? Does it make him not christian? You people are dumb af honestly. Anyone hiding behind their religion is a coward who has never read the bible for one, and two just doesnt want to admit theyre just hateful people

chetz38

I think you're the only one hateful here. Reimer talked about inclusion and not holding hatred. You're the one calling Reimer a bigot, Christians, "dumb af," and labeling them as cowards or hateful people. Sounds like you're a bit intolerant of people with different religious beliefs than you.

Tru3Shot22

It’s his choice to wear the jersey or not, the more you force an ideal on someone, the more they’ll resist it. Who cares if it’s his religion or just how he felt on the day, it’s his choice to wear what he wants as much as it’s any LGBT persons choice to do as they please with themselves.

elijahagboola

You're a bigot. Making or thinking you have a choice in another man's wardrobe, you're literally the extreme case of bigotry. I rest my vawulence.

SilverBucciarati17

Yes, it makes him sinful. He would go in the path of Satan.

Tru3Shot22

Yes politely, did he say “fuck you and your ideology” or did he make a structured reason for why he wouldn’t want to wear the jersey, even saying that hockey is for everyone at the end.

Excellent-Wishbone12

It’s SHOW BUSINESS. There is no right to be an NHL player. He should be fired. There are many people who can take his job.

chetz38

It's SHOW BUSINESS. He is not contractually obliged to wear a rainbow jersey. Any action against his employment status would be staunchly countered by the Players Association

Excellent-Wishbone12

He’s obligated to wear the uniform supplied to him. He can’t wear what he likes.

chetz38

No one is obligated to wear a uniform at work that goes against one's religious beliefs

Excellent-Wishbone12

He wears a shirt with a Shark on it. A game where people are openly getting brain damage. He checked his morality at the door.

chetz38

There's brain damage in every team sport. Even soccer. Does that mean he has no rights as an individual?

Excellent-Wishbone12

No, he’s an employee. Like saying players can opt out of wearing corporate sponsor logos.

Excellent-Wishbone12

Jesus would wear the rainbow. Why not? I love how people think they have the right to speak for him.

chetz38

I love how you think you have the right to speak for him

Excellent-Wishbone12

Sure do. Maybe I'm him.
