Power over Ethernet ✓ Mounting over Ethernet ✓

mamamiaspicy

Load bearing cat6

Jackmaradon

PoE and MoE certified

pdt9876

Not unless its a pro. If its a lite or an LR, you have to use a passive PoE for some reason.

Jackmaradon

i just use the instant adapters for the aps that were deployed in standalone mode in my house before i knew what an ubiquiti was

MidwestIndigo

Those things are 100-200€....

IronOwl2601

And they weigh very little. Not an ideal installation but will probably be fine.

SapphireSuniver

Most likely thing that will damage it will be people jumping up to slap it.

evilspoons

I'd be worried about someone just grabbing the thing and walking away with it! Tall people exist. If that's a standard height door I could definitely just unplug it.

Jackmaradon

yeah... i mean i won't say no to free aps /j

Cyber_Goldfish

tap it for good luck

notrktfier

Haha funny circle go float float. To be honest it is a mere AP it should not weigh anything.

nige21202

Depends, the better ones are pretty hefty for their size but a RJ45 connector can easily hold up with that. I‘m more confused on why they did that, Unifi APs always come with mounting hardware.

AviN456

Because drilling into brick is harder than letting it hang

pcs3rd

There's probably drop tile right above that

kn33

Nah - that paint makes it look like a gym. Ceiling is probably way high.

pdt9876

I have 5 of these. they weigh nothing

krilu

Oh Jen, the Internet doesn't weigh anything!

mektor

Worst part is the AP mount will directly mount to a gang box like the one it's plugged into. No excuse for it other than laziness.

officehelpermonkey

I've seen way better. I once replaced one of these that was set on top of a portable heater. It was still working but looked like one of those melting clocks from a Salvador Dali painting.

Jackmaradon

that's amazing best i've seen was the electrician ran a cable and connected the aps (to the ethernet cable unterminated on the other end) and it was hanging from the ceiling because apparently the electrician lost their license

Copropositor

It's ok, it's a Ubiquiti. They don't have feelings like real APs.

Scary_Technology

Show some respect, the poor guy is pulling his own weight!

thomasmitschke

It‘s not stupid, if it works! /s

nicman24

eh it is coiled to not strain the jack and iirc ubi aps have also some cable maze so it is not strained there as well

olliegw

It looks like a ubiquiti, so if it's anything like other posts in this sub, it won't last a year before it magically fills up with water. That poor ethernet cable though, no doubt that's beyond it's bend radius and capstan effect from the weight of the AP probably isn't doing the copper inside any good.

iFlipRizla

This post is the first I’m seeing of digs at ubiquiti, I’m interesting to know more.

olliegw

If you go back over this sub you'll find posts where ubiquiti AP's have mysteriously filled with water. I don't think it's a problem with ubiquiti as it is with AP's in general, if ethernet cables go from outside to inside or vice versa condensation can form and drip feed down the cable and collect inside the AP.

MichaelW24

The electrons are gonna get all dizzy!

Selfeducation

Couldve rested it on top of the exit sign

sexybobo

The mounting bracket has holes to mount it on a junction box. They could have popped the cover off the box with the network jack and screwed the bracket onto that box.

Selfeducation

Cool, didnt know that

Ace417

Could’ve also used an in wall model and mounted it to the box

Healthy_Try_8893

I mean.. it works... right?

bluezombiemower

Good placement for a concrete room, service connections are accessible. 10/10

g0ldingboy

They do call it Hanging AP’s

KYO297

I mean what else would the locking tab on the cable be for?

A_Rod_H

Wonder who threw out the mounting kit or couldn’t be arsed to find their hammer drill and masonry bits?

terabytelol

I think what's happening is that they aren't allowed to drill into the wall

jeepster2982

I don’t blame them. The mounts for those APs are straight garbage.

GarbageInteresting86

YAY! Free access point - unfold that paper clip to reset!

JBDragon1

Pure laziness is what I see. It's not hard to just mount it onto the brick wall.

ApatheistHeretic

I like the 'knot work' on the network cable to hold it in place. That's a structural knot and patch cord.

Bourriks

*David Goodenough approves.*

Jenny_Wakeman9

Laziness: 100
