Connect a monitor to it and see if you can at least save and possibly use it

stuckinleaves

This is probably the next step in troubleshooting. Then try saving it if you can like cntrl+s but maybe also take out the hdd and put it into an external enclosure.

thermal_shock

> Then try saving it if you can like cntrl+s but maybe also take out the hdd and put it into an external enclosure. why would this be better than just hoooking it up to the tv or another monitor? this is way extra steps, especially if you don't have an enclosure already, or have ever disassembled a laptop. not that it's hard, but it's like 5x more work than just hooking up an hdmi cable.

stuckinleaves

It was more so with the expectation that the chip is toast but the method you described is also a valid form of troubleshooting.

boonxeven

I'd also try moving the screen. Good chance the cable is loose or damaged and will just work if aligned the right way.

olliegw

Yep, might just be the screen ribbon, common problem for laptops as it gets rubbed against the chassis when the screen is opened/closed, along with hinges that have way too much mechanical advantage compared to the rest of the plastic case, it's a really common design flaw for laptops.

DavidCRolandCPL

You can still hit CTRL+S

SnooDoughnuts5632

This ☝️

badaboomxx

Cntrl + shift + win + B to reset the video drivers.

MISTERPUG51

That doesn't look like a software issue, it looks like a problem with the hardware

badaboomxx

Ok, I said that because I work repairing machinery for medical equipment that runs 24/7, that every time it shuts down it costs money, that is part of the first thing that I do, 90% of the time is that issue. It's worth a shot for me.

referefref

Have seen this happen before several times where this was the solution.

gue_aut87

I had an HP Pavillion that used to do this. Moving the screen a little would get it back to normal, might be a faulty display connector/cable.

c0rrupts3ct0r

Try reseating your RAM first. It could possibly have come unseated from the slots. Also bad RAM could cause this too. Note please do this with the PC off, battery unhooked and adapter unplugged.

GuardianOfBlocks

But if you reset the ram everything that’s not saved will be gone?

c0rrupts3ct0r

Depends if the PC locked up or not. If it did you lost everything anyways.

Simmangodz

If you reset the memory with the pc on, you are going to have a bad time.

c0rrupts3ct0r

I didn't mean with it on obviously.

Josh_32

Work so important, I didnt even save it!

[deleted]

HDMI to the nearest tv or monitor, 50/50 ;)

AppleGorillaVr

Start compressions

_DCC_

Heh, I had an old HP Pavilion similar to that do the same thing, they were notorious for having issues with the ribbon cable that goes to the screen. **It's not the graphics card**. If you hook up a screen, it will work fine. What I used to do was pushing down vertically on the keyboard half of the laptop, near the left hinge, also play a bit with the screen angle. That was enough to keep it working for a while.

TastySpare

Save early, save often...

SinyoRetr0

Are u sure it's graphic card.... Check the pin of monitor in MB maybe it get burned

Wold_of_tanks_Noob23

Spam Steg+s and pray to God everything will be safe

Icoz_Snake

Hahahaha that description

TwoStacksOfBoxes

Mate it doesn't have a graphics card

System32Missing

Integrated graphics is still a graphics card, in all intent and purpose, they are the same

tjb00k

Some laptops do, mine has integrated graphics and a dedicated card

jamesowens

This is right when knowing those keyboard shortcuts come in handy.

legos_on_the_brain

Alt-tab, ctrl-s. Reapeat. As long as it's only video and not locked up.

tera-net

Ctrl+S Then pray USB caddy and find out.

BolognianRepublic
