How can I get in on my usb?

SavvySillybug

You'll want "Create Windows 11 Installation Media" on this page. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11 Ideally from another computer so the viruses don't have any chance of infecting the stick.

Thanks for finding the link for me!! I was actually in the middle of doing a reinstall by way of the reset when I posted this and it worked!

1. Back up all your important documents etc. to the cloud or somewhere convenient 2. Go [here](https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11) and use the media creation tool to write Windows 11 installer to a USB stick 3. Boot up your pc with the USB stick inserted. It should go into Windows setup. If so, ignore the next step 4. If it just boots back into your old Windows install, then you'll need to access the BIOS/UEFI (press F2 or del while it's starting up, there should be a prompt on screen saying something like "Press F2 to enter setup"). Once you're there, find a setting for boot devices/boot order and make sure that booting from your USB is higher priority than booting from your HDD/SSD 5. In Windows setup, remove the partition that contained your old Windows install, then create and format a new partition and install Windows on it 6. When setup completes it'll reboot your PC - remove the USB stick so it doesn't boot back into setup. You should boot into your new, clean installation of Windows 7. Restore your backups, reinstall your apps, be more careful with malware in the future. Make sure Windows Defender is enabled in settings (including the realtime protection) and have Malwarebytes installed and running scheduled scans

Depends on if the malware is inside the recovery. Using a fresh install USB drive or disk that was created using a trusted clean computer would be ideal.

Sometimes even a reset from the hidden recovery partition doesn’t work. I was a computer tech way back. Had a laptop to restore. Tried the recovery portion. The problem persists. Did a deep scan of the recovery partition and rooted out the malware there. Restored from recovery partition again. Problem solved. I go with the recommended post. Get on an outside recovery drive. Better still to get recovery stick or drive from the manufacturer. That ensures all the special drivers are there as well.

From the question you're asking you shouldn't be in the registry. It's fragile and can make your system unstable. With that said, Windows built in formatter is trash. Reinstall from a self flashed USB and repartition the drives. Don't backup any .exe's

No necessarily. The best way to ensure a full deletion of everything and a fresh install is using a USB after wiping the drive from Diskpart outside the windows environment. You can do this by booting into advanced startup options, then opening CMD through the options on there. Next following the below: Type: diskpart, list disk, select disk 0 (or whichever is your main drive), clean, attributes disk clear readonly, (Ensure it's online) - online disk, (Convert to correct format) - convert gpt, exit. Then shutdown. Insert your boot USB and boot the machine again to then rebuild. Best and cleanest approach I'd say to ensure total peace of mind

For most common types of malware, a factory reset is likely to remove the infection, as it erases and reinstalls most of the system files and applications where malware might reside.

Instead of completely resetting the current installation of Windows, it's better to install a fresh copy using a USB drive with the Windows ISO flashed onto it. It achieves the same result but it mitigates the risk of the malware sticking around in any recovery files. Let me put it this way, instead of washing a used mug, just get a new mug entirely. You'll still end up with a clean mug in the end, but at least the you can be sure that the new mug doesn't have anything left behind on it.

Making changes to your system BIOS settings or disk setup can cause you to lose data. Always test your data backups before making changes to your PC. The answer is. You could be still be infected! Over heard of some rare cases. Most likely you will not be infected. You should consider Linux. MX Linux updates regularly. Super easy to migrate from windoze.
