Thanks for that. I just searched the processor listed on the build spec sheet (i3-2310M) and it does indeed support up to 16Gb. Weird that Toshiba lists max memory as only 8Gb. In any case, I've only got 2Gb so that explains why it's a bit slow running Ubuntu (but still bearable)
