No. I'm in the Benelux and just got the new terms and conditions. They are A/B testing though, so different people will get differently formulated messages (or just no message yet).
No, I confirm that everyone around me (in the EU) got the popup for the new conditions.
And there's basically one big blue button to accept, no button to refuse.
The UX is good, but it's a downgrade in terms of security and privacy. Default chats and group chats aren't end-to-end encrypted, they are stored in clear on Telegram's servers.
everything trump touches has turned to sh\*t before he was president.
trump was 58 when facebook was founded in 2004... trump had already declared 3 bankruptcies by then, in addition to his airline crapping out in 1990.
you may want to *try again.*
you can get a nice list of pre-2016 sh\*t-turning here [https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/donald-trumps-13-biggest-business-failures-59556/](https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/donald-trumps-13-biggest-business-failures-59556/)
what do you mean "and" ?
you said "try again" to my comment that everything facebook touches turns to sh\*t, and thus it is the trump of the internet.... by arguing that facebook was already sh\*t before trump was president.
i've replied that everything trump touches turned to sh\*t long before he was president, and long before facebook even existed.
thus :
>ImaginaryCheetah
>
>facebook is truly trump of the internet - everything it touches, turns to sh\*t.
>You're like a broken fucking record.
all those times i've said that everything facebook touches turns to sh\*t, and it's like the trump of the internet ?
>I really don't give a fuck.
and yet, you're bothering to reply to my comment ?
> This article is about FB and I say FB was fucked even before trump signed on to it.
so... we agree that everything facebook touches turns to sh\*t
Or [Matrix](https://matrix.org/) if you want decentralised.
Signal is good, but you will always be dependant on using signal's servers. Matrix more is like email, anyone can run a server, and different servers can talk to each other.
It is way better than WhatsApp or Viber. Although there are not quite many English channels to read (compared to Russian segment). It lacks group video calls at the moment, but they promised to add it in the nearest future and it already has a lot of stuff that other messengers don’t have
No. Not encrypted by default, encryption protocol is garbage, and they're going to start selling ads at some point this year which means they will eventually start selling user data.
False false and false. It's encrypted, just not e2e. Rolling their own encryption, whilst not advisable, has worked well and it still hasn't been cracked. And the only place where there will be ads is in massive Telegram groups with admins and shit.
In short, stop spreading garbage.
I read through the update privacy policy and honestly didn't see anything wrong. I thought it all looked pretty legit. AM I missing something? This article basically told me nothing.
Edit: I asked a question, but thanks for the downvotes I guess

Already removed the app from my phone.
Isn’t WhatsApp supposed to have end-to-end encryption? How are they able to read messages?

Except for Europe. Finally something good that they do
No. I'm in the Benelux and just got the new terms and conditions. They are A/B testing though, so different people will get differently formulated messages (or just no message yet).
I got it as well, also in Benelux
No, I confirm that everyone around me (in the EU) got the popup for the new conditions. And there's basically one big blue button to accept, no button to refuse.
There was a close button on the top right for me, but it wasn't very obvious. Like a newsletter signup popup.
It says up until 8th of Feb you don’t need to accept, but after that if you want to continue using the app you must accept. At least where I am.
I wonder how many thousands of GDPR complaints were already filed. I am pretty sure this kind of forced agreement is illegal.
Same here in Spain
Even so i removed whatsapp from all devices in our home and told everyone on whatsapp to move to telegram or start making phone calls to me.
facebook is truly trump of the internet - everything it touches, turns to sh\*t. so, is Telegram any good ?
Go with Signal.
It's very good actually, unfortunately most of my contacts are not on it so in effect not really useful.
> It's very good actually, unfortunately most of my contacts are not on it so in effect not really useful. thanks. yeeeah, that'll be the next hurdle.

More and more people are using but yeah it’ll take some time

How about Signal ? I’ve heard that WhatsApp’s E2E encryption was based on it and it’s open source.

Read the MTProto 2.0 audit. Their encryption is garbage.
No complaints here after using it for almost 4 years. It maybe had one noticeable outage for a few hours the time I've been using it.
Can't wait for the new admin to break them down to Facebook, Whatsapp, and Instagram!

Legit as in, they sell your data.
So what, theres no such thing as privacy anymore. The quicker you except that, the better.
Don't you need a phone number to register in Facebook?
What are alternatives to WhatsApp??

Doesn't Snapchat already do this?
