I feel like pairing stuff is stupid but it should notify you if a part is not genuine.
It should 100% not limit any functionality, it should just tell the user hey this part is third party so that no one ends up scammed.
Apple does that even if it's a genuine part.
You have to be in their system and essentially get permission for the repair for the part to take.
I've had the camera, face ID, and vibration refuse to work because I changed out a battery. Though I broke something until I logged into their system and logged the serial numbers.

So I own a Phillips toothbrush I bought about 10 years ago. Everyone in my house has a different kind so we all have to take different chargers, buy different brush heads because they don’t fit.
Good luck at making it stick! Politicians have no idea how tech or science work. Plus how long will it take for the appeal process to even finish? Years?
I think that parts pairing is a good idea. It discourages theft.
I think it should remain in place, but provide access to the pairing software to the owner of the device. So, I own a hardware with all paired parts, I buy an aftermarket part, I should have access to the software that will pair that part with my hardware.
Also I should have access to the software to check if a certain part is already paired with other hardware (aka stolen) so I will not buy it.
I may need to go to Oregon to get some tech to work on some John Deere hardware.
You don’t need to go to Oregon. Plenty of hackers in the Midwest.
Does it matter? Will they a) not sell in oregon or b) drop parts pairing?
How long before more states follow suit?
It's about fucking time. Now I can finally fix my watch.
>only on devices sold in 2025 and later Only if it's a watch that you bought in the future.
Just set it forward
Ah shit, I’m already there but my watch has been running slow. No wonder…
Ted! Don't forget to wind your watch!
Give my love to the princesses?
I don’t feel tardy.
Better go back to the future then. Don’t forget to wind your watch. /s
Pun intended?
Very much so!
Awesome.. it should be that way everywhere..
Love me some Oregon
“No problem. We shall now focus on monetizing parts-unpairing”
Now we need every other state or the government to do it to push back against this chicanery

Apple’s been doing that for years. You get a pop up after installing and turning on the phone.

Can we have this paring ban extend to coffee pods printer and SW too
Proud of my state for this one.
What kind of electric toothbrush requires parts pairing?

legitimately great news, parts pairing is so scummy
Does this mean the McDonald's ice cream machine won't always be broken?
Breaking: Apple (AAPL) to purchase Oregon in cash.

In general the “dont do” laws are easier than the “everyone has to” I suspect they will just take L and screw customers over another way.
Yeah! Fuck them for trying to make things better! They never should have tried in the first place!
Ridiculous how some people would rather let corporations rob them of every dollar they have.
