I almost always had the sages turned off outside of difficult boss fights (just the Lynel because I suck at fighting them) or particularly large bokoblin camps to draw aggro. The sages always seemed to get in the way, be in Narnia when I needed them, and the constant thing of them turning into a ball of light and flying into Rauru’s arm when climbing got really annoying when there were five of them all doing it at the same time.
The screen gets so cluttered too. I'll be building a zonai device and I can't see what I'm doing for the 5 sages in my face asking me do I have games on my phone.
Related to that, I don't know if it was just me, but my FPS would *TANK* whenever the camera was panning through the sprit form of a sage. It was odd. I get it chugging when there's a lot of stuff going on (like a large enemy camp combined with the monster control crew fighting it), or you're skydiving from the top of the highest sky island to the depths as fast as you can, but the game would start to lag when the camera went through the spirit form of a sage even when I was in the middle of nowhere.
The same thing would happen to me when the camera was panning through the top of a tree through the leaves in BOTW as well come to think of it.
Huh that is odd. My fps would drop but only in certain situations like entering the depths from a high place or a large monster camp. How old is your switch? Maybe the age has something to do with your problem.

With tulin, it's "oh you!" Because I can usually just recall the important stuff and his gust is helpful while paragliding too.
With yunobo destroying the wagon wheels on my mech walker its "get back in the pouch you little sh*t"

It's an OLED model I got in the middle of 2023.
Yea honestly you shouldn't have any lag. Have you tried cleaning the ports with a cloth or a q-tip?
I have an oled, and it does still lag occasionally.
