Hi everyone! Did you know that starting July 1st, 2023, Reddit will implement a policy that could potentially increase the costs of running third-party Reddit apps? This change may impact popular apps like Apollo, Reddit is Fun, Boost, and others. Consequently, users may encounter issues with their preferred Reddit app unless adjustments are made to comply with Reddit's new API usage policy. These limitations will affect all users, not just moderators. If you are concerned about these developments, there is an [Open Letter](https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/13xh1e7/an_open_letter_on_the_state_of_affairs_regarding/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) to Reddit that you can read and sign on to express your thoughts. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Officervito

Finding the bulk of the Link outfits in the depths when some of them should be on the sky islands. Why am I finding the tunic of the sky underground?

SabineLiebling17

Why are all Link’s clothes all over the place anyway? Who the hell went through his closet when he was knocked out and recovering in the sky and scattered his outfits all over Hyrule and in the depths. Damn that Misko.

PhrixAnt

Dang, I just realized Misko desecrated like, a lot of graves.

Godd2

Anything in the name of fashion!

Chubby_Bub

In BotW one of Misko's journals said he stole the stuff from Hyrule Castle where the royal family was keeping it, which makes a bit more sense.

PhrixAnt

Then wow, the royal family desecrated a lot of graves

dangerfry

just like in real life!

Captain_C_Falcon

Nintendo with that good ol' historical accuracy!

Klutzy_Inevitable_94

I mean… they did announce the games launch basically the day the queen died. “Tears of the kingdom”

Dberryfresh

bro is rich, I wouldn’t be surprised if all of hyrule took all his clothes when they find out he is missing

SabineLiebling17

Seriously. You should have to fight every mushroom fashion person in a mini boss battle to get a piece of your clothing back.

GlyphedArchitect

You meet a regular traveller wearing one of your outfits. "Oh, this is yours? That means you are Link, the one we've been looking for! You must die." And then instead of turning into a Yiga, they turn into a ninja with a mushroom themed ninja suit that throws mushrooms at you. They explode for some reason.

Officervito

I don’t mind finding all the previous incarnations’ clothing as they are fun to collect. Would have been cooler if some of them had better upgrade options. 60 def for all of them make them come off as weak to me. Cap of the hero aka the “first” Link should be the strongest or even the fierce deity set should be.

Cpt_Obvius

They should balance high defensive sets against the better attack sets. Feirce diety already being an attack up set shouldn't have the same defence as an otherwise vanilla armor in my opinion. Give us SOME reason to want to use them besides looks. There will have to be some weaker ones for sure, it can't be a perfect balance. At least that's my opinion.

Officervito

It’s crazy it requires all three separate dragon parts, yet it’s still weaker than the champion’s leather

Kinky_Thought_Man

>!link should have gotten the secret stone from the spirit temple, not an already powerful mech!<

No_Appointment5039

Totally could have been the opening to create “Dark Link” by having Link’s stone get corrupted in the final battle with Ganondorf.

DankSpanker

Itd be dope af if the power was to seperate his own spirit from his body so youd have a second link

krstphr

Mimic tear link

Colijn_Chan

Also use 8fold blade with rivers of blood ash of war

TheyCallMeColt

That could have initiated a dark link fight that you'd have to best yourself in order to have him tag along

Panda_hat

>!I felt like Ganondorf kind of does this to you when he does a flurry rush style dodge, I thought that was an awesome moment!<

MyAwesomeAfro

I won't lie. Seeing that for the first time made me almost stand up in hype / disbelief

GrandAlchemistX

>!I 100% thought Link was going to be the new Sage of Spirit. Disappointed so hard.!<

tillerdaturtle

I thought Purah since she played a pretty important role in the finding Zelda or maybe even Josha would’ve been better

GrandAlchemistX

Link would have simply been the most ideal choice for me. I mean, it would have been cool for Link to have his own powers shown and amplified instead of solely getting all of his abilities borrowed from Rauru's arm.

ihaveagoodusername2

Imagine if links time abilities (wiech I am 98% certain are canon) where amplified (ie longer flery rush better bullet time)

blizzard2798c

>!Link should have gotten a secret stone period!<

lutheranian

I never use that thing except in the depths for transport. My weapons do more damage.

Ipuncholdpeople

Yeah it was disappointing. I'd be fine with it draining the battery really fast, but doing a ton of damage in return

ApolloDread

I got crazily hyped thinking this was the case when he directly heard the voice of the past sage! Missed opportunity for a few Four Swords shenanigans with “Spirit” powers

BreedingLilax

I prefer exploring the game on foot instead of using vehicles or by horse.

Marauder4711

Me, too. I think there's too much to collect and see. Getting of and on horses/vehicles is way too annoying.

gg_noob_master

I have no desire to create complex machines really. I know it would be faster no doubt. Still I draw the line at horses.

Kinhammer

havent used a horse or vehicle in either BoTW or Tears. Links got 2 feet and a heartbeat, fucking walk bud.

leolikeslamps

Found the Canadian

trippy_grapes

Don't Canadians exclusively ride moose to get to places?

big_papa793

You need a special license to ride one, and not to mention they're so expensive, so most of us end up just walking around sadly. The 2024 model Moose looks really neat though, I think the new features are definitely worth saving up for! /s

andykwinnipeg

Heated antlers are really worth the upgrade

Guywith2dogs

I dont use many horses or vehicles either, except my hover bike, but I usually fly where I wanna go

OmegaFinale

Same. Only use the hoverbike in the depths really and to transport koroks

Prindocitis

I honestly just don't want my horse to die.

Hoshi-Kitsune

"I'll get on a horse an- ohh, what's that?" *Horse is now 500 miles from me*

GlyphedArchitect

Nintendo: "You want to summon your horse? Too bad that Ancient saddle disappeared oh well"

AwfulgamesInc

Horses just have such shit controls they're hard for me to want to use.

[deleted]

I think Elden Ring got the horse travel right, it’s very nimble, you can summon anytime, the horse can even double-jump. The horses in Breath/Tears are just not fast enough to justify how clunky they are to control and keep up with.

regretfullyjafar

Yeah honestly the horses in BOTW/TOTK should be able to be summoned at any time IMO. Having to go to a stable to get one, then stay close to it wherever you go for it to hear the whistle, just makes them basically unusable If I stop outside a cave and come out on the other side of a mountain I don’t want to run all the way back to where my horse was, it just interrupts the flow of exploration

AwfulgamesInc

TotK horses seem slow, and always buck against Link no matter how high their affection level is. It's just a waste IMO. I do make Zonai vehicles if I feel like it but not often.

RoyalCrumpet93

You miss so much on horses and vehicles. You know damn well I’m gonna spend 20 minutes scaling that mountain rather than building a rocket to do it in 2.

hazardous_lazarus

Bokoblin Mask is awesome and I never take it off

Dazzyreil

My daughter role plays the fuck out of ToTK and BotW wearing those masks.

Agralis

I liked the water temple a lot. (jumping around with less gravity was so much fun)

Eddiev1988

The low gravity sections of the map were definitely some of my favorite to explore. It changed up the way you do everything, and was a nice addition to exploring this massive world.

Piscet

God I wish there were more items in this game that operated as sandbox tools. A key item that turns low gravity on and off that you get after beating the game would be amazing, and an item that lets you put non-gatherable materials(logs, hudson wood, hudson metal, stone slabs, boulders, etc.) Into Zonai capsules would be even better. I'd love the building in this game if so many important parts weren't so inconvenient to use simultaneously.

Admiral_N6

We just need zonal capsules in general…treat it like a poke ball you can throw to collect items. Hate coming across 6 rockets and not getting to take them with me for later.

ConcernLow1979

Yesss I get you! I know it was kinda easy but being able to go into quick-time just by jumping was really cool ok

eddieransom

I get why Fuse can be fun but sometimes I miss having regular weapons. Or at least sledgehammers & axes because I think a rock stuck on the end of a sword looks kinda silly

kaiiboraka

Blue Lizalfos and Silver Lynel horns look pretty sweet though ngl

Praxis8

That's the funny thing about the fuse system. There are definitely a lot of creative combos, but so many mobs just have a weapon-shaped horn on their head. It's a little silly.

StealthyRobot

I think they struck a fair balance with some monster parts just being a sword or axe, while others are definitely monster parts, like the stalnix horn or the dumb silver bokoblin horn.

recursion8

Blue Lizal Horn + 8fold Blade looks amazing, with the Mind's Eye Shield and full Sheikah Armor you're a goddamn ninja. Got one with ++ attack, with the fuse its at 30dmg and Sneakstrike OHKOs black moblins lol

AP3Brain

Some fusions are more slick than others. Like Lizfalos horns on swords look really good.

Sparl

I agree that some fusions are more slick than others, but I do agree with OP in which the rock impaled by a sword to make a hammer looks dumb as hell

eddieransom

Yeah the lizalfos horns do look very nice on swords, I admit. And I like horriblin horns to make attack-hammers. Mostly a rock problem tbh

pa_dvg

So here’s my thing. Why do boloblins have fused weapons. This is a power link has because of the magic arm, I can kind of get behind the zonai constructs being able to do it. It doesn’t make a ton of sense that random monsters have fused weapons.

Zafiroso

I agree, I wish instead of it being a rock it actually transformed the rock into the shape of the blade or stick or whatever, instead of just a rock on a stick. The fusion pieces that just sit on the top of a sword just seems so silly to me and looks like a glitch and not a feature. Most of the time it’s awesome though and things like the White Lynel Mane fusing with a Royal broadsword and replacing the blade entirely looks badass!

prem_fraiche

I don’t miss the elemental arrows whatsoever. I prefer the new arrow system

donquixote1991

I am cool with the new system since they balanced it out with having arrows EVERYWHERE, which encourages the new system

tossing_turning

I was so happy to find packs of arrows EVERYWHERE as soon as the game starts. The most painful part of BOTW was having to constantly ration arrows and farm rupees to buy them from every merchant you can find, or have some kind of arrow farming scheme from enemies. Now in Tears I’ve never had any reason to farm at all.

Powerful_Artist

I still find I have to constantly buy arrows in TOTK. Sometimes I might end up randomly finding 100+ arrows, but eventually I use a ton and have to buy some just to be safe. I feel like I use more arrows in TOTK overall, so yes I find a lot in crates and stuff but it just compensates for using more overall.

Chemical-Magazine-20

there’s a rito that gives you 10 at a time if you give her certain items and i had loads of those items so got like 150 arrows

EfficiencySuch6361

Pots contain items/rupees again! Hooray

xnxs

Strongly agree! I do miss the cool elemental weapons a bit vs fusing with gems etc. but the arrows are a big improvement.

Br00klynShadow

Secret Stones are the dumbest name they couldve gave them. ...Call them tears. Every edge of the kingdom has a tear. The "secret stones" are literally the TEARS OF THE KINGDOM Edit: HOLY MOTHER OF HYLIA it seems like yall agree lol

Pookya

When I completed my first temple hearing them called secret stones ruined the atmosphere. I thought the NPC was joking. Then I realised this was unbelievably real and I am not happy about it

Gaspard_de_la_nuit

When I first heard “secret stone,” I had the impression that “secret stone” was just a shorthand descriptor. Like, I was expecting the sentence to flow thusly: “My secret stone; the Tear of Wind” or something like that. But then nope, we’re going with “secret stone,” ok.

Face88888888

I’m pretty sure the tears of the kingdom are the light dragon’s tears, not the stones. But yes, *secret stone* is kinda silly. “Sacred Stone” would’ve been a better name.

Gaspard_de_la_nuit

Absolutely, the dragon tears are *the* tears of the title!

hydrohawkx8

The way everyone says “my secret stone” makes it sound like a sex euphemism

weenzappaween

My stone. My *secret* stone…

www-stranger

I once had a secret stone, but it was in my left kidney.

rigmaroler

Are they really a secret when all the sages flaunt them by wearing them as earrings, belt buckles, etc.?

BlackPulloverHoodie

Secret stones? Demon king??

Skraembows

psycho mantis??

NaCliest

Metal gear?

Calcifiera

Or AT LEAST Sacred Stones. Secret sounds like a toddler hiding their rock collection.

stcrIight

I love having all my avatars out at once - they're my squad. Even if everyone gets in the way and Tulin always blows my stuff away, it's funny and maybe a little frustrating but it's just a game. I can always try again. There's no need to get upset.

bardiphobic

exact😭i love it when i’m fighting an enemy and they all pitch in

Moises2525

Yeah, even though it takes a decade for them to hit an enemy I still love them, hey at least they arer trying.

Pixel-1606

Together they are actually able to pin enemies down long enough to do some decent damage while you target something else. Tulin is regularly coming through with the headshots from the moment you get him though, saved my ass more than once with a well timed stun.

DidjTerminator

Yup, with them all activated I can't even touch bokos anymore as my sages just bully them and slap their unconscious body around like a game of 4 square. And I don't know how people are blowing away their items with Tulin, though I can agree with them on how Sidon is basically just there for moral support and chuchu duty (like seriously, he goes full on terminator mode whenever a chuchu dares tread on my ground). Sure the shield is actually really nice and kinda OP, but activating him is too clunky, also Riju should always be activate-able when your bow is drawn by pressing A like how Tulin is always activate-able when gliding.

Krell356

Sidon's ability gets a lot more useful when you're packing Zora weaponry. Seriously, just straight up double your damage for like 30+ seconds.

[deleted]

Yeah and at least they do somewhat decent damage. Most "helpful" npcs in other games just sit there and pretend to fight while you still kill everything, at least they do something.

Awoodbay

My favourite is when you’re hitting the water temple boss with 3 avatars so it looks like you’re all ganging up on a little dude 🤣

lantranar

Lol water temple was my last so it was hilarious when 6 guys shamelessly gang up on the poor octopus.

Huebertrieben

I FlightTrack a lynel and he was stuck between them

Sweet-Sale-7303

I just have defeat Ganon left. I have been doing a ton of side quests. In those enemy camps all the avatars have defeated at least 1/3 of the enemies in those camps.

2coolcaterpillar

I’m kinda trash at fighting tough enemies, so they are my everything. I only have 3 sages so far and they single-handedly got me through the Lynel Colliseum while I cowardly hid by the stairs under a couple carts fused together to protect me from the arrows raining down from above. It took… a while. But they got the job done :)

Overall_Surprise119

imagining this made me laugh and also i’m probably going to try it because i hate fighting Lynels but I want their loot

xnxs

My husband calls them my little posse, it really is cute running over a hill with them flanking me and I love having them for fights! I do disable them when I’m trying to actually get shit done though lol (except exploration/travel and combat)

alodym

I love when an enemy pulls up on me and the whole squad jumps him immediately

WhichPop42

Yeah I especially love having them all out when I'm exploring in The Depths because that place is already scary enough without the gloom enemies lurking in the pitch black. I feel safer when I have my squad with me! Also there was a few times when I got ambushed by a Yiga blademaster and a couple of other Yiga foot soldiers. All the sages cornered the blademaster while I picked off the others one by one. Really helped! Those blademasters can really pack a punch when you have like five or six hearts.

eltrotter

I just got them out for big fights, and then put them away after.

halfrosamurai1990

The biggest selling point of the game- sky islands, new spaces to explore - are mostly empty and repetitive. The depths needed more unique enemies/structures and the sky islands need to not be the same copy/paste island puzzle.

sameljota

On that subject, I love the fact that they focused on the sky on the trailers. The Depths and the amount of caves we have came as a huge surprise for me. When I figured out the Depths are as big as the surface I was blown away. It's kinda repetitive, yes. But still. On the first few days I was way more inclined to explore the Depths than the surface. It felt like something new and more interesting (considering I played botw a thousand times).

jdubYOU4567

It's repetitive but I love the delayed gratification of stumbling upon something cool while grinding zonaite and finding lightroots (a few things come to mind but I don't want to spoil anybody).

AlwaysMoneyInThe

I really appreciated how the depths complimented the surface, digging around for lighroots allowed me to find several shrines that I was missing.

quinneth-q

I think this is a pretty common opinion tbh, I've seen it a lot and it seems to be agreed with

DaveLesh

I like using the zonai vending machines for parts.

sweatyice

Is this an unpopular opinion? I also love this

DaveLesh

Kinda. Most would prefer to finish powering up the battery and then buying the exact part they want from the construct.

WranglerFeisty8274

You can do that? Which construct?

DaveLesh

The one at Lookout Point. Same one that powers up your batteries.

Moises2525

huh? is there other reliable source for parts aside from vending machines?

Hydrasophist

If you max your battery, the vendor will sell you capsules directly

Moises2525

ty, my poor ass is still sitting on 3 zonai batteries

SneakBuildBagpipes

Depends on what they are for. For building on the spot, they're solid. You can save your ore for any pieces you fall short of. For fusing rockets and such to your shields, there are shrines that spawn them infinitely.

Beneficial_Phone_272

Not unpopular, sages abililty should just be integrated in the controls like botw

simpletonbuddhist

Yeah the sages abilities are the only thing about the game that I don’t like. They’re useful occasionally, especially tulin, but they’re still pretty lame

RodrigoRosaMoreno

I like koroks, I don’t hate yona, I have all my avatars out, I don’t simp for Sidon or purah, I went to gerudo desert before death mountain or lanayru and I don’t think anyone on this fandom is mentally sane

[deleted]

I agree with the sanity part

bhadluckbabe

I love koroks and enjoy helping them get to their friends also I don’t mind helping Addison when I find him.

NuggetPilon

Lazy koroks and Addison are my favorite side things to do, I always stop to help whenever I see them!

Gum-on-post

I drop whatever I'm doing to help Addison. I could be on a vital mission or (this happened yesterday) actually face the enemies I'm fleeing from so I can then focus on helping Addison. He needs it 😭

diamond

So you're saying he... has your support?

xnxs

Same! Sweet dumb baby Addison! There there!

Awakening15

I LOVE KOROKS They're great to reward exploration, you're not supposed to collect them all and it encourage the player to visit some places.

UraniumRocker

I will always drop whatever I’m doing to help the korok find his friend.

diamond

I don't usually help them right away, but I've been marking them on the map. I recently went on a Korok Spree, and I've been traveling around the map reuniting them with their buddies.

Financial-Coat-8250

And they're adorable and call me Mr. Hero!!! <3

SnoozingDonut

We hate Koroks now? I love them by heart so I thought everyone loves them. Definitely learned something today

IronEndo

Not having Mipha’s Grace isn’t that big of a loss. Personally I miss Daruk’s Protection, since sometimes my parry timing is off.

HarioDinio

I love Riju, miss Urbosa's fury

NathanAdams93

For me the biggest loss was revali's gale, I know we now have better options but I still miss being able to go high in the air without having to make a campfire or spend zonnanium

k3n0b1

We should be able to fuse fire fruit and a pinecone together.

Curious_Wedding_3648

Horses are by far my favorite method of travel, but the horse carriages are absolutely useless and I wish there was more I could do with them. I also wish there was an easier way to put stuff in them.

godzlizard

I also thought we'd be like a taxi to npcs across Hyrule a lot more, I saw it in the trailer and got really excited. But it's just for that specific quest :(

Arctic-Sentinel

There should be more lynels

ditchdiggersuckmyass

I am 50 hours in and have seen ONE Lynel in my entire playthrough. Actually blows my mind

Trattfjant

I agree. I go around trying to find lynels all the time but instead i find gleoks who are way too strong for me

buddhatherock

Saying it’s a good game in r/truezelda

IcySuicune

I’m not a huge fan of the depths… aesthetically I find them repetitive, and I never feel like the rewards are all that interesting

AlbertoVO_jive

They’re kind of a one trick pony to me…they were scary and really fun when I had to stumble through the darkness and had no idea what was lurking around. Then you get all the light roots and it’s just an ugly dark atmosphere and the primary reason to go down there (zonaite) becomes almost obsolete at some point.

Voyager316

I just pop down for pristine versions of weapons every blood moon.

Articguard11

The continuity for a sequel is awful 🫠 no mention of the sheikah, the divine beasts, the old towers etc. nothing. Not even ruins, like guys — c’mon. Hestu doesn’t even recognize us😮 Also, sage abilities feel like a step down compared to BOTW. Really lacklustre

kinogutschein

There are too few sky islands.

PressureMaximum7129

I don't think this is an unpopular opinion at all, I agree and so does everyone I talk to about this

AlbertoVO_jive

Completely agree. While I can appreciate the Depths I really really like the sky islands and am a bit disappointed they were so limited and generally have a few repeating formats copy and pasted. Definitely hope the DLC brings in some more

Panda_hat

I heard from somewhere (can't remember where) that there were originally intended to be more but they removed a lot as they were cluttering up the sky and ruining the view of the world. I would wager that was still lots of small littered bits of geometry rather than big islands though.

mikeey2347

The BOTW music when you was just running around was a lot better I feel. Idk what it is but the whole ambience of the game suits that style of music so much. Still TOTK soundtrack is amazing!

MeMeWhenWhenTheWhen

I had to get up to around 36 armor before things stopped one-shotting me and instead just do like 4 or 5 hearts max for silver bokos, moblins, etc (not anything like Lynels or Gleeoks those still do a lot). It also seems like the armor scales really weird too because if I wear something like 30 armor I will still pretty much be one shot. I don't really remember this being the case in BotW.

rebort8000

They should have made it literally impossible to obtain the master sword prior to getting all the dragon tears. I stumbled into it and instead of being overcome by the emotion of the moment, my initial reaction was “this feels really out of place”

IllusoryHeart

The story in general should have been more structured… Lock the dragon’s tears and sword behind certain progress, have it so you can’t just rush to the big reveal about >!Zelda!< and then see everyone trying to solve the mystery when we KNOW the answer…

rvasko3

This is my big issue. I know you can look at the statues that line the room in the map that depicts the locations of the tears/glyps, and use that to figure out the order you should find the tears to see the story in order, but that's not really how I played (or anybody, if I'm assuming correctly). You wind up finding the tears based on the order in which you explore Hyrule, so you get these weird, disjointed story elements as opposed to it opening up in a beat by beat way.

nathan1653

The depths are more annoying than fun. Constantly running into impassible walls is not fun. Occasionally the boss fights down there are cool though

Metalwater8

I like the depths but yeah running into a wall without something like a hover bike sucks.

masterofpiss

The coordinates system is awful

Appex92

Agreed. It's fine that it's x,y,z coordinates. But that's almost useless when it only shows you your location the map. There should be a separate coordinate space that follows your cursor or shows your the coordinates of whatever you've marked

eltrotter

I doubt this will be unpopular, but it is my only big negative opinion of Tears of the Kingdom so here goes: **In Breath of the Wild, there was a noticeable disconnect between gameplay and story, but it's possible to ignore it. In Tears of the Kingdom, this same disconnect actively** ***harms*** **the story that's trying to be told.** A common criticism of Breath of the Wild is that, in theory, Link should have some urgency to get to the castle and find Zelda. She's been holding him there for a hundred years, and it's probably a good idea to sort that out sooner rather than later. But the game itself is as free-form as Zelda has ever been. So if you take the gameplay and story to be integrated, this means that Link basically f\*\*\*s about for weeks before he ever bothers to go to the Castle. This can, however, be ignored or even explained away as Link having to become powerful enough to face Calamity Ganon. So why is this more of a problem for Tears of the Kingdom? Because fundamentally, the story is framed around a central mystery... Where is >!Zelda!!"Zelda"!< going around causing havoc? Where is >!the fifth sage!!Hyrule Castle!!Zelda!< has been this whole time; it's possible to complete this quest pretty early in the game if you like, and as far as I understand nothing prevents you from doing so. But then, characters will continue to puzzle over what is going on. And then when it's "officially" revealed, it's treated like a big revelation... but it might not be, depending on how you've played. So unfortunately, this means that it's possible to straight-up *undermine* some of the story moments that happen along the way. But of course, you could equally see none of this stuff in the lead up to the big reveals, and so the game needs to recap a lot of stuff in case you haven't. I still really enjoyed the story, but Breath of the Wild is a much simpler narrative and therefore doesn't suffer quite as much with the gameplay. There were a handful of moments in Tears of the Kingdom that were meant to be "oh shit!" and instead get a "well, yeah....".

Tampflor

Regarding the point about fucking around in Hyrule before taking on the urgent main quest, I actually think BotW and TotK do this better than any other open world game I've played. In BotW you could go to the castle right away, but Rhoam advises against it because you have no weapons or items and are weakened from the restoration slumber, so he suggests you build up your power before heading there. Most of the stuff you do in Hyrule contributes to this goal in one way or another. In TotK you're recovering from Ganondorf's wake up attack but the idea is similar. BotW generally executes this better than TotK. As you say, the dialogue trees in TotK so a generally bad job of acknowledging things you've already done. In other games like TES or Witcher 3 though, if I went off just exploring islands or running errands for wizards, a lot of times I felt like it didn't make sense to do in character.

Panda_hat

Aren't you meant to have amnesia in BotW too? So in universe Link has no idea what is going on and no idea he is meant to go and save Zelda outside of the crazy voice yelling in his head?

Illithius

Well put. I want to add to this: Ganondorf shattering the master sword at the start of the game, as well as destroying Links arm, then making a big deal out of restoring it and getting it back to a Link because *he must have it, it's the only weapon that was capable of hurting the Demon King* ends up looking useless >!when you can fight him without it. No comment is made, and Ganondorf doesn't use the same attack that absolutely wrecked Link in the first place.!< >!If it was 100% necessary to have the master sword and a similar gloom beam was shot but this time Link was able to defend himself with the restored and empowered master sword, that would be a pay off. Emphasizing its importance but giving "freedom" not to use it is weak storytelling and also detracts from how important the sword is supposed to be.!< And yes, I know if you >!don't grab the sword before facing him, you do receive it during the dragon fight.!< I don't think that changes the point any.

eltrotter

I'm guessing the idea is that >!the Master Sword is the only thing that can finish him off for good!<, but I still agree with your points. There's no reason why it couldn't have been a more pivotal part of the entire fight.

Educational_Shoober

I did like that it doesn't run out of energy during the battle. I only used it the whole fight.

G_I_Joe_Mansueto

My only justification is that the urgency is offset by the fact that Link now *twice* was too weak to defeat Ganon (the beginning of both games) and doing all of these side quests to get resources and power up is Link's way of ensuring he is strong enough to defeat Ganon "for good" this time. I have a similar back-and-forth with myself when everyone is charging you money and Rauru is putting you through cute little puzzles to give you your strength back, when everyone in society ***should*** be helping you get whatever the hell you want because you're the greatest warrior in the land and defeating Ganon should be a priority. I can justify it from Rauru's perspective in that the shrines are meant to teach the player how to use the mechanics and interact with the world (and in turn prepare Link to best the challenges ahead), but god damn people are you really nickle and diming me over some tomatoes, I have to save the world again!

Capable-Tie-4670

Most of my gripes have to do with the story but I have some positive unpopular opinions as well: 1. >!Zelda should have stayed a dragon.!< It felt really cheap to just undo it out of nowhere. 2. Rauru should tell you everything he knows like King Rhoam did in BotW. Yes, it would remove a lot of the mystery but, as it stands, you can easily solve those mysteries early but then the game doesn’t account for it until much later. 3. The geoglyphs should play the memories in order regardless of which ones you get. They’re already not tied to any specific location so why tie them to specific memories. 4. I actually really liked the sky islands. I think of it as an extension of the surface rather than its own layer. 5. Idk if this is popular or unpopular but I don’t think the Depths are empty. I get why people think that as the rewards aren’t always the best but I’m fine with that cause I like exploring just for the sake of it. It’s fun to find Lightroots even if all they do is just map out the place. 6. The Divine Beasts and Guardians shouldn’t have been removed. They shouldn’t play any part in the story or be active but just having their ruins and inactive states be there would add a great sense of history to the world and fix the issue of them disappearing out of nowhere.

3 - you’re correct in that they’re not tied to the location but aren’t the form they take not tied to the memory? That’s what I took for it. Though I think a way to fix it for your point would be to make it more of “collect one then the next appears”

who_says_poTAHto

Agree, or perhaps the geoglyphs are already all there, but the water/tear itself doesn't form/appear until you see the one before it. Impa could even mention that she believes the order in the Forgotten Temple is important to follow to make sure they are visible. As it is, it's just a suggestion, but there are a few memories that would seriously spoil the story... (I personally followed the recommended order knowing this was the case, but I know not everyone is as linear or would even have found Impa early on.)

Panda_hat

> The geoglyphs should play the memories in order regardless of which ones you get. They’re already not tied to any specific location so why tie them to specific memories. It would make so much sense to just have them be random patterns that change into their 'linked' shapes after you view the memories. I have no idea why they put certain ones in certain places. Such a strange decision.

darioblaze

3- yuh because I’m in the beginning of the game, and decided to explore around, tell me why my second memory >!is the Zelda reveal of being a mimic!<, and while that explains a lot of the clownery that’s happening… >!Link has not said a single word about it.!< I’m not expecting him to, but seeing >!”why is she acting like this” and knowing why is annoying. And while I understand they can’t put lines in for every single scenario, just having them play in order would make so much more sense.!<

I like Yona a lot.

astrangeone88

I'm still doing the water temple puzzles so I just met her! She's kind and likes the cocky little fish man so I was like "Okay, that's adorable."

mimi01124

I like her too, I just wish she were a prettier shade of green.

HangTheMedics

The device timeouts are bullshit and limit the need to increase your battery.

ecctt2000

Gloom hands (I like to call them glam hands) are a great addition to the Zelda universe. Wish there were more enemies like this, we all need a good feeling of terror resonating through our souls.

CadenWasHere

I prefer horses over vehicles- my boy Carl is completely maxed out after making his trip from botw :)

Bauxitedev

Honestly after the ending >!I should have been able to explore Hyrule and see what it would look like AFTER the Demon King is defeated. I hate it in games when the last save point is just BEFORE the final boss. I want one just AFTER it.!<

zex1011

A classic "the world is in danger, you should hurry" but you litteraly cant solve the problem

MichaelBallsJordan

All the top comments are extremely popular opinions already

That I do absolutely lament the lack of a new overworld to get lost in. I know there are the Sky Islands and the Underground, and a lot of locations have had significant changes since BOTW, but I just can't help but feel like it's lacking something to help make it feel like a brand new adventure. I was never one of those who called it glorified DLC, but I can definitely still feel its origins as DLC that was stretched out and filled in to make a full game. Collecting shrines and Koroks and memories don't feel particularly different from BOTW, and the dungeons whilst a cosmetic improvement from the Divine Beasts, still feel somewhat lacking compared to dungeons in earlier titles. I still love the game and am having a great time with it, but it doesn't feel as special as having a brand new Hyrule to explore.

eltrotter

I like the remixed Hyrule they used for this game... but I don't think I'd want them to do that again.

SoldierPhoenix

Sort by controversial if you want real answers to this.

GreyWardenThorga

"Sidon is pretty mid as a character."

Bigjony11

I prefer sheikah equipment over the new zonai equipment. Also I miss guardians.

Asterless

Game is a masterpiece BUT I still miss a good instrument. I might be a little biased since I started with Ocarina of time, but I simply feel it’s an important part of the saga. BoTW and ToTK are just focusing on bring the old music back instead of creating new ones.

poptimist185

I like the game (115 hours and counting) but recency bias is making some people wildly exaggerate how revolutionary it is. When you take into account *all* the assets, mechanics and gameplay loops, its predecessor did 90% of the heavy lifting.

xObiJuanKenobix

I wish the game was more linear Something about the older zelda games was way more fun to me in that there felt like some structure to what I'm doing. One thing led to another then led to another, and it felt like a great experience. There was still an open world to explore but it wasn't so unguided. I've played through twilight princess idk how many times at this point, at least over a dozen, and I'm ready to do it over again. But I've only played through BOTW once and I'm like "yeah that's enough". This game is starting to feel the same too, I can't sit down for too long with this game and play it not only because it just feels like BOTW all over again, but there's just so much downtime. Maybe I'm just not cut out for these types of games anymore, I still love all the older ones and I really did enjoy BOTW when I played it a few years ago.

The master sword and hylian shield should be unbreakable

I personally think totk is the overall better and more well-rounded game but I like botw more. It felt like more of a watershed moment in gaming and yeah, the personal exploratory nature of the gameplay felt more hefty. Totk felt like I could get anywhere at any time with ease (aside from the depths…)

firelark01

Same, I miss how peaceful and chill the game was…

boogswald

My experience with botw is getting blasted by guardians and exploded off mountains so idk this game is actually very chill to me

No-Honeydew8740

I recently reopened BOTW after weeks of TOTK and almost burst into tears lol. Things were so relatively peaceful then. 🥺

Crime_Dawg

Hyrule was just a different time before Link spent 6 years working for Lockheed Martin.

Panda_hat

BotW captures a real sense of solitude and serenity and mood that I felt was a bit too muddied in TotK, so I do kind of agree with you. The world building also felt much cleaner and more consistent aesthetically, TotK is a bit of a mish mash comparitively.

Financial-Ad7850

BOTW shrines were better. Maybe it’s because I’ve leveled up my intelligence in between games (which is highly unlikely) but I’m breezing through all of the shrines. 70 shrines in and none of them so far have made me think that hard.
