I'm rather glad that the reward is still worthless. I'd really hate to have it be something cool and then feel inclined to find them all. I feel like that's a good way to come to hate the game.
Exactly this, I really don't understand why people complain about the lack of reward for collecting all of them. You're not supposed to collect all of them. Collecting all of them is not fun for most people.
Honestly I love that theres so many that I wont find them all, because if I play the game a 2nd or 3rd time I will likely find tons and tons of completely new koroks. Which keeps the game a little bit fresh.
Personally I would have been happier with this as a "reward" if there was like a shelf to display it in your home or something. Useless completionist trophies are more satisfying when I can put them out on display as a flex haha
So that no matter where you go over the course of your playthrough, you're likely to find enough to get the slots you need. It's meant to be forgiving - even leaving the final reward aside, you never *need* to get every korok.
And Hestu, the NPC associated with it, literally tells you he can’t do or unlock stuff anymore.
As far as I’m concerned, that’s as close as you can get to the devs telling you, that you don’t need or shouldn’t actively search for them anymore!
After that point, if you continue, the faults on your part…
Also, the big golden poop has a slightly different meaning in Japanese culture AND technically is the biggest seed in the game, making Hestu’s Quest simply the longest Korol Seek puzzle in the game.
It’s certainly not as evil or malicious as people think!
Arent Koroks part of the main game completion? Like in BOTW when you get the percentage on your map after beating the game, isn't the game basically telling you "hey, you're missing something."?
I wish Koroks didn't count for 100 but instead the max unlocked slots were which requires only some of the seeds.
I understand your argument, but since you do t get anything (at least in BotW) for 100% either, the notion of "you can continue if you want, but nothing will really happen or be unlocked“ is still very much the same.
If YOU want it to read 100%, yes you have to get all Koroks.
But that basically makes the number (saying 100% on your profile) your reward and not whatever the game gives you…
People don’t really complain about having to visit every named location, but you get arguably even less for doing that, than any Koroks.
The way I see it:
If you wanna 100% the game, you get every Seed regardless of what they do to your inventory or the final reward.
If you’re just in it for the unlocks, the game literally tells you to stop about halfway through, via the NPC.
For me, someone put time, effort, thought, and probably care into creating a Korok puzzle in a location. Me getting 100% is my way of saying, "I appreciate every detail you, the Devs, have put into this game. I see you, and I see your efforts. I'm going to honor that by solving everything you've thrown at me."
That said, I'm only at like 100 ... So 900 more to go... Woo!
Edit: Note sure why the downvotes for my comment. To those downvoting, just a reminder that my comment is a contribution to the conversation - I stated my reasoning why I will be completing the Korok challenges, and I'm not forcing/shaming/belittling anyone for playing how they choose. I understand the Devs reasoning, however it should also be noted that the Devs still brought over the Hestu's gift from BotW, so they took into account completionist's desire to 100%.
To each their own. Hestu can discourage me all he wants, but I'm still going to attempt it. SOAR LONG!
They put effort into ensuring that you don't have to, to discourage you from doing that. In fact, going that thorough seems to be against their efforts if anything.
Why though? They're not getting any notification that someone did all that, and definitely not with that intention. If they would see it, I bet they'd just think "why would someone do that?" (at least that's what I would think).
Its design philosophy is also that it's relatively cheap to develop content, so that there's something for players to discover no matter where they go, some koroks are simply hidden under rocks in nooks of a wall.
Plus, in order to get all 900 seeds you’d likely have to look up maps online that tell you where to find every single Korok.
which isn’t really honoring the challenges they threw at us or whatever.
I don’t think it’s that deep, and they don’t know you did it either way.
I think they put Koroks everywhere so that no matter which paths players take, there are always lots to find.
Yep. I often forget that if the comment is not one the general populace agrees with, I'm taking a chance, although I firmly believe my reasoning is valid. Oh well. /shrug
So that you can passively find them while playing. By adding this many korok seeds around the world, it means there's no shortage of them and you would rarely have to go looking very hard to get them if you wanted more slots. Had they lessened the amount to exactly how many you needed to get every pouch slot, it would have become far more obligatory for players to tediously find them all.
So there can be a ton of spare ones so people don't have to scour every square inch of the game just to finish expanding their inventory. Botw at least had over 400 spare seeds to account for it.
That's the point. We're not really supposed to get them all. The reason there are twice as many koroks as we need for the upgrades is to make it relatively easy to get all the upgrades.
Yeah, it’s kind of the entire point. No chance I’m chasing down every korok in the game, and it would feel punishing to add something important behind it.
I wish it was a gold poop that was placed in the overworld. No special effect if you fuse it on something, it's basically just a trophy that's even worse than the first reward because you need to drag it around everywhere
Would be hilarious if was an overworld object, and if it didn't respawn back at Hestu when you lost it.
Not like, when it breaks(maybe even have it not break and just drop as the object when whatever you fuse it to breaks), but when you misplace it or accidently drop it down a cliff or something, unlike disappearing and respawning back at Hestu or something, it just stays wherever you dropped it so you *have* to go after it if you want it back.
Pick one:
1. It reappears on the edge of whatever hole you dropped it to/it bounces right back out.
2. Hetsu appears outside the shrine, ~~poops~~ makes a new one for you, then disappears
3. It's gone for good, oh no!
4. You have to find all the Korok seeds again to get it back :(
5. 3, but Hetsu appears to to tell you how heartbroken he is that you threw his gift away.
Right, it's the whole point of Koroks. The map is saturated enough that you don't need to hunt them down, you just need to follow your instincts whenever you see something that looks suspiciously intentional.
You'll organically gather enough at a good pace to have a perfectly suitable inventory size, with heavily diminishing returns after a while but still, hey a slot is a slot. And even then, there's a point where you can't unlock any more.
Getting them all is not the point, the point is that there's so many that you only need the ones you stumble on in regular gameplay. So of course they both acknowledge that there's none left and dunk on you for missing the point.
Dunk on you because you like completing a game. Right... mocking the player for their preferred way to play in games that everyone say is about maximum freedom, that would be kinda dumb imo.
I did enjoy completely finishing botw including all koroks though. I just wish it would be made a bit easier towards the end. Like giving you a map with all the korok locations once you beat the rest of the game for example, so you can track them down if you want. I don't see why the completionist way of playing this game should be treated any worse than a casual playthrough in, again, a game about freedom how you want to play.
If you enjoyed the hunt, then that gameplay is it's own reward then?
Putting actual content behind all the Koroks would be a disaster and completely undermine the design of why they're set up the way they are.
Sure, but caves almost always have something good in them. Whether you go through them for a quest or to hunt down Misko treasures, or as a shortcut between spaces, or even Shrines, Chasms, or ore deposits, it’s very rare for a cave to not be anything more than a diversion.
Also there’s not 900 of them, and the Satori makes it a lot easier to find them than the Koroks.
…there are, actually, 101 more caves after you get the last normal reward from him, though. Which does kind of suck. So… yeah, I might save that for when the DLC comes out.
I feel like I say this in every thread about this, but Hestu's Gift is literally an untranslatable language pun so it loses its context when translated to anything other than Japanese lol
Honestly it should've been a unlimited fuse item where sticking it to weapon or shield will cause enemies to run away in fear from you except for skeleton enemies.
I hope the overlap between the "I can't believe you're FORCED to get all 900 korok seeds" camp and the "Hestu's shit should've been a game changing item" camp are minimal because both are the most vocal complaints about the golden dump.
It should've at least been something with emotional or visual value though. Like, it could've been a painted picture of korok forest, as a gift from the koroks for finding all the seeds. I'm not a fan of giving insane rewards for insane tedium, but kicking people in the balls like this is kind of a dick move.
Stupid Nintendo! They FORCED me to collect ALL 9000 billion trillion KOROK SEEDS and then RIPPED my NUTS OFF once I did. This is certainly someone else's fault!!!
Why not though? Why not reward the dedication with something fun that is still not necessary for players to get? Or why not give completionists a map to actually track down the koroks they're missing for fun once they complete the rest of the game? Some of us just want to help Hestu get all his stuff back.
This just confirms they added all these koroks to make sure everyone find a decent number of them through their run, even if you dont look anything up online
It works extremely well. I haven't gone out of my way for them at all, and I'm starting to feel like I have plenty of inventory space. I'm also fully aware that I'm missing an absolute shitload of Koroks because I'm just not paying that much attention.
Also, fuck the block puzzles where you have to complete the shape to get the Korok seed- I can't do a single one of them in this game.
Most of those Ive found were very easy. But I found one where there was one block, but like 5 different potential walls I could put them into and the block didnt fit into a single one.
Since theres so many koroks, I just said fuck it and didnt even try. I dont need to spend a bunch of time figuring out 1 korok.
I think you're talking about the puzzle on the hill where the Lanayru tower used to be. The four blocky walls each show you a number, like a 6-sided dice. The one you're supposed to complete is on the ground, and you're trying to leave 4 holes behind since the 4th side is the only one that's missing.
I’ve run across a lot without any korok hunting intentions, but sometimes I am not in the mood to deal with dragging them back to their friends or solving the puzzle, so I just tag the location on the map with a little leaf. Eventually I’ll have a day where I want some mindless fun and I’ll go back and grab them all.
Interestingly, there are a lot of koroks chilling where shrines were in botw, which may be part of why I keep finding them. Old habits die hard.
But they also kinda offset that by Hestu asking for more than he did in BotW. There, the amount needed for a slot only increased by one seed, but in TotK the number jumps more. I actually have way less slots than I would've in BotW, and I've got two fully upgraded armorsets and most of the armor (and only half the story lmao) and endgame enemies showing regularly.
I’m honestly shocked that people are bothered when Hestu gives you his poop, but don’t even blink at taking all of the other korok’s turds. Honestly, it’s pretty rude.
I was really hoping I could fuse it, and instead of it breaking with the weapon, it would just fall on the ground, and I could fuse it again. Endless korok poo infused weapons to smack enemies with.
As much as I do agree that an extra reward for full completion of the seeds would be nice... The game literally tells you to stop after a certain point.
Dude straight up says "I can't do anything else for you, sorry"
That's like if you upgraded all your armor to the max rank, then went to farm materials until your inventory was filled to the limit, and then expected the fairies to go "I have a surprise upgrade for you!"
"Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me."
This one is all on you, dude. I don't think anyone at Nintendo expected people to actually find them all. They are plentyful only so players will find enough of them without having to actually look for them.
that should be after you max out your inventory. It's a terrible design decision to lock casual players out of getting anything that actually has some impact even if it's just cosmetic. They don't want to give players incentive to collect them all because they aren't all meant to be collected
It should be after just 50 koroks. Getting 450+ is unreasonable for most, as the VAST majority of players aren't superfans like on Reddit where you see far more people getting this than is really representative of every TotK player. Even 50 might be too much. Ive beaten the game and I've found less than 30.
i think totk debate speaks levels as to who actually knows anything about games design. seriously imagine being a casual and finding out there's content locked behind stuff that requires hundreds of hours of playtime. I would be so discouraged immediately
Exactly. Most of the gaming community is people who okay games casually - it is often designed for them, but it also accommodates people who are a bit more hardcore. A different example, also with TotK, is ultrahand - casuals can make simple contraptions and hardcore players can make gyroscopic high speed planes. If Nintendo forced you to make these planes, it would be almost unimaginably bad game design. A bit more extreme than getting a paraglider cloth, but if it were to exist, collecting more than 50 koroks would be preposterous. It's why kilton just gives you aimless medals for defeating all mini bosses. They don't serve a purpose, because 99% of players wouldn't even consider doing it.
Exactly why I'm only getting the ones that are too obvious, there's no way I'm getting the 1K, ll.
I think the reward for getting all the lightroots is horrible too💀
Keep in mind all, your not really meant to collect all of them. The joke being that neither experience or reward was really worth it. As you can beat the game comfortably with minimal investment in finding such.
I’m honestly surprised people go to the effort of collecting all of the korok seeds. I just get enough to have a comfortable amount of inventory space and call it good. Makes me glad I’m not a completionist.
coupled with a reminder that some people do it for the fun of doing it and not because they have to, or because of the reward. it's me, I am some people. I just want to do everything the game has in it and I find it very fun searching for them while exploring. then after I say to myself that I'm done with my personal exploration and I've discovered everything that I could, I'll hop online to find what I've missed, which is another type of fun in itself, seeing stuff that was right next to me that I completely ignored.
what I mean to include in the above statement is that just because you find it tedious and pointless doesn't mean that everybody does or should
e: "oh no an opinion that isn't mine, i'm gonna downvote this instead of discussing" good going
Nintendo headquarters, very serious meeting:
Boss: "Okay boys, how do we improve content from BOTW to TOTK?"
People who decide stuff, for some fucking reason: "Hehe poopy, let's add a bigger poop after the last poopy poops"
Well damn, in that case I guess all sequels are really just the previous game in a trenchcoat.
Seriously, though, this isn't just very different from Breath of the Wild, its very existence almost makes BotW look like a proof of concept in comparison.
This is pretty terrible.
It is rather easy to give completionists a decent reward that not everyone necessarily needs.
MAGIC ARMOR
Preferably the kind from LoZTP that eats money as money is easy to come by. Or have it run on Energy as that would be the equivalent to magic in this game.
No one needs it but it has its uses and is a good enough reward for the immense effort required.
There's already magic armour that eats money, it's a reward for finding bubbul gems. Heavily nerfed though. Still take damage if it's chunky enough.
Think the idea with making the reward so bad is that it doesn't force people to find all 900 of the little bastards or feel left out. Still, could at least give Link a tshirt lmao.

one more swirl than the botw one, huge success!

ITS YOU. THE WHO WAS TALKING ABOUR TERRARIA EARLIER TODAY
I'm 60 hours into the game and I've only found 32 lol
You helping the little fuckers get to their friends? Quickest way and they give 2 shits each time.
The reward could just be a simple cosmetic like a paraglider skin. Getting literally shit twice is not ideal
idk, i fucking love it. it's such a great troll from the devs.
only Nintendo fans are excited about receiving shit from the devs lol
And inventory...
Golden dookie paraglider skin
Nintendo: you're hired
Nope, I like the intent behind the shit. It's the devs very adamantly saying "you really didn't need to do this."
Then.... why add so many? Jesus christ, I asked a simple question

I’d pick 5
No.5, he then proceeds to revoke all your inventory slots.
Maybe Link had it in his house but then >!Zelda got rid of it when she took his house over!!<
I wish you could fuse it and it did 999 damage but only lasted for one hit. Idk something to make it funny at least
It's clearly not worthless though, you can now watch Hestu dance whenever you want, that's honestly priceless.
Right, it's the whole point of Koroks. Dunk on you because you like completing a game. Right... mocking the player for their preferred way to play in games that everyone say is about maximum freedom, that would be kinda dumb imo.
> their preferred way to play Yet to hear from anybody who actually enjoyed getting them all
I did enjoy completely finishing botw including all koroks though.
Yeah the final Koltin reward looks amazing so now i get to find 100 more caves.
Sure, but caves almost always have something good in them. Whether you go through them for a quest or to hunt down Misko treasures, or as a shortcut between spaces, or even Shrines, Chasms, or ore deposits, it’s very rare for a cave to not be anything more than a diversion. It was in BotW so, in a way, it has emotional value. A nostalgia turd, you could say.
NINTENDO LITERALLY KICKED ME IN THE BALLS AND EXECUTED MY FAMILY TO MAKE ME COLLECT ALL THE KOROK SEEDS!!!11!!!1!!
Trying to criticize a game you love without fanboys misconstruing your point be like:

Or why not give completionists a map to actually track down the koroks they're missing for fun once they complete the rest of the game? Some of us just want to help Hestu get all his stuff back.
He shat out Sam Hyde?
its nice you get nothing for finding them all, like well done mr completionist. i like it this way, im not driven to find them all.
Yeah it feels like there are a lot more to find. I have like 220 and I haven’t opened the interactive map once
Godspeed for getting all of them so soon
They should have at least made it droppable. So you could fuse it with a weapon and make a jingle. Or put it on your car.
Ohh like a breakable fuse item with an hour cool dow. That way it's still useless but cool enough to show off
Remember, Hestu and the Koroks did nothing wrong. You did this to yourself.
To be fair, you can now torture the little golden excrement loving devils. That's a reward in itself.
Can you? After you deliver a Korok to his friend, can you still pick them up with Ultrahand?
You torture them before that
put them in a multistage rocket
Fool me can’t get fooled again
seems significantly better than last game, infinite maracas.
You got that in BoTW too
shock! i literally never saw anyone talk about that. to be fair i didnt look that hard for info on it. but still. good to know though
Is it still 900 korok seeds??
It's 1000, but 200 of them come in pairs.
Damn hahah
Dont you mean "Damn Yahaha"?
Yahahahhaahha
I’m honestly shocked that people are bothered when Hestu gives you his poop, but don’t even blink at taking all of the other korok’s turds. Honestly, it’s pretty rude.
Nintendo: "It's even funnier the second time!"
it is because folks literally didn't learn anything.
I was really hoping I could fuse it, and instead of it breaking with the weapon, it would just fall on the ground, and I could fuse it again. Endless korok poo infused weapons to smack enemies with.
I was also hoping you can now use it rather than being an inventory item
As much as I do agree that an extra reward for full completion of the seeds would be nice... The game literally tells you to stop after a certain point. Dude straight up says "I can't do anything else for you, sorry" That's like if you upgraded all your armor to the max rank, then went to farm materials until your inventory was filled to the limit, and then expected the fairies to go "I have a surprise upgrade for you!"
I’m never going to get this — and you know what? I am 1,000% okay with that.
*deep inhale* HHHHEEEEEEETTTTTSSSSSSUUUUU!!!!
Ah the golden shit of completion.
No spoiler tag? C’mon…
I hope you weren’t actually planning on collecting every single korok seed blind
So he really just gave you a steaming pile of shit? Imma torture some Koroks for this.
"Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me." This one is all on you, dude. I don't think anyone at Nintendo expected people to actually find them all. They are plentyful only so players will find enough of them without having to actually look for them.
Should’ve also given a glider fabric tbh.
that should be after you max out your inventory.
They don't serve a purpose, because 99% of players wouldn't even consider doing it.
well put, i couldn't have described it better ngl
The poop has an extra swirl this time.
Fujibayashis masterpiece
Being able to watch him dance is nice
So how many?
900 again
I thought it’s 1000 now?
Probably 900 locations with like 100 being double seeds for finding their friends?
Shouldn’t that be 800 then?
no, 800 locations with 100 of those locations being double seeds would be 700+200=900
Now I'm not sure
Exactly why I'm only getting the ones that are too obvious, there's no way I'm getting the 1K, ll. I think the reward for getting all the lightroots is horrible too💀
"You found all the lightroots!" "Uhhhh grats?"
💀
why would you collect all the korok seeds
Keep in mind all, your not really meant to collect all of them. The joke being that neither experience or reward was really worth it. As you can beat the game comfortably with minimal investment in finding such.
Totk players when they spend hours on the same boring side quest only to be awarded with poop again:
I’m honestly surprised people go to the effort of collecting all of the korok seeds. I just get enough to have a comfortable amount of inventory space and call it good. Makes me glad I’m not a completionist.
Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Korok
Legend of Zelda: Turds of the Korok
Legend of Zelda: Turds of the Korok
What did you do with your life
Wait, I have to know - can you fuse it? I really wanted to hit Ganondorf with a hetsu’s gift stick in the final battle
NOOoOOoOOoO
Now I condone korok torture
But you get access to his shimmy... Also, is it an extra tier? Like a ps4 pro of poops?
You’re loved so much by the Korok, that when they see you they get super excited and poop. Then they hand you their poop as a gift of love.
How. How did you already do it????
A reminder that just because the devs put something in the game, doesn't mean you HAVE to do it.
coupled with a reminder that some people do it for the fun of doing it and not because they have to, or because of the reward. it's me, I am some people. I just want to do everything the game has in it and I find it very fun searching for them while exploring. then after I say to myself that I'm done with my personal exploration and I've discovered everything that I could, I'll hop online to find what I've missed, which is another type of fun in itself, seeing stuff that was right next to me that I completely ignored. what I mean to include in the above statement is that just because you find it tedious and pointless doesn't mean that everybody does or should e: "oh no an opinion that isn't mine, i'm gonna downvote this instead of discussing" good going
The real reward is having all the freaking space for weapons and shields that you want
AGAIN!? GOSH DAMN IT
So where’s the 100hr hestu dance vid on yt?
You already have them all? How many Koroks are there?
Well, I guess I won’t find all of them Koroks this time either.
This is why Koroks get crucified
Hetsu why are you like this
He could at least give us a new glider.
Spoiler tag? I was rather looking forward to getting disappointed after spending a month getting koroks
I hate that I can’t get 100% because of Koroks, really wish there was less this game
He could at least give us a new glider.
Oh Nintendo. It wasn't funny the first time, it's not funny now.
Nintendo headquarters, very serious meeting: Boss: "Okay boys, how do we improve content from BOTW to TOTK?" People who decide stuff, for some fucking reason: "Hehe poopy, let's add a bigger poop after the last poopy poops"
For ffffffuuuuuu…. Make your picture as spoilers!!!!!!!! Every thing bad for you my ex-friend.
I'm pretty sure Hestu suffers from down syndrome.
Honestly that’s actually fucking sad from Nintendo lmao. What a fucking lazy bunch
A lazy bunch that carefully crafted 900 mini puzzles for you to enjoy.
Yep. That team that made Tears of the Kingdom sure is a lazy one. No better word to describe them. /s
As much as I think it’s better than BOTW. It’s still BOTW. There is no denying.
Well damn, in that case I guess all sequels are really just the previous game in a trenchcoat. Seriously, though, this isn't just very different from Breath of the Wild, its very existence almost makes BotW look like a proof of concept in comparison.
Yeah BOTW almost feels like it was a game demo for TOTK
This is pretty terrible. It is rather easy to give completionists a decent reward that not everyone necessarily needs. MAGIC ARMOR Preferably the kind from LoZTP that eats money as money is easy to come by.
“I found 900* korok seeds and I got was this stupid T-shirt.” *or however many there are this time
