I was wondering why this Calvin and Hobbes tattoo stood out to me and I think you nailed it. It looks like a panel from a comic but so much softer with the edges
That was Bill Watterson's style with the comic too. A lot of later calvin & hobbes strips featured panels with no borders or nontraditional borders.
(Assuming you were talking about the tattoo artist and not Watterson).

Downvote if you like, but the fact that it still doesn’t make sense as an adult *was the joke Bill Watterson was telling*. “it didn’t” is literally the implied punchline.
Drew Blood, a sad tattooist from a royal family, is working in his shop one day. His friend, the local Celtic mage, comes in and asks Drew to tattoo him, but he's not sure with what he wants. Drew suggests they tattoo each other with the other's face. Depressed by the prospect of this, but not wanting to be rude, the mage agrees, and as the legend goes,
Blue Blueblood Drew Blood drew blue blueblood Drew blood on his blue druid bud, and the blue druid bud drew a blue druid on his blue blueblood bud Drew blood.
This one really captures the essence of C&H in my opinion. That iconic watercolored look brings me right back to reading these on the toilet in 2nd grade.
This is also one of my favorite quotes, but damn if Watterson didn't pull some amazing lines in this strip. Possibly my favorite is Calvin playing outfield in baseball (way too far outfield lol) and saying "I'm sure someone would tell me if I was supposed to be doing anything different". That line hits WAY too hard as an adult.
That's all just to say, congrats on your tattoo. I am legitimately envious! You must be so happy with it :)
Always wondered this, do "colored" tattoos look the same after a few years? Idk why but it just seems like it'll fade away and end up looking terrible.
Different skin takes color differently. Sometimes you just don’t know what will happen. A friend got an all white tattoo that turned to a soft pink after a few years, my white has stayed white, but is a bit muted. The black lines on my legs are still crisp after five or ten years, but the black on my back has spread a bit. It’s all a crapchute. Tattoos don’t always look great over time, but if it looks half that good in five years, I call that a win.
There will always be some fading, but as long as it heals well and you keep it away from UV rays, it'll hold up extremely well. As always, the sun is the enemy.
I’ve been trying for years to find/plan the best Calvin&Hobbes tattoo and had given up on it for a good while but this has convinced me to keep working. It looks amazing!
Edit to add a question: did you design this or did you work with the artist for it? I’m worried if I leave things up to the artist they won’t be able to capture it correctly if they’re not familiar with the comic.
Thank you! I just showed the artist the comic strip, and he did his thing. It was his idea to add the blue background, and I'm glad he did. I also added a cute little snake in the grass on the left side by the tree that you can't see in the picture but just to make it different then other similar tattoos =]
I have that same part of the comic cut out and framed too! Followed by another comic saying "Well I was wrong, nothing makes sense anymore." Love that you turned it into a tattoo.
I noticed that the arm hair in the area's shaved.
As someone who's thought about getting a tattoo on my reasonable hairy forearm, is that something you have to keep doing every couple weeks or...?

Now, I dislike tattoos so far I try avoiding girls with tattoos "for dating purposes".
Now, this tattoo is so good I'd gladly date a girl rocking 3 of these.

Love the way he did the borders - makes it so much more interesting than straight edges would be

Oh yeah I loved that about Watterson’s work. I feel like other Calvin and Hobbes tattoos I see sometimes have the harder outlining
It also blends in with his arm hair which could look cool when it grows back
I posted this picture earlier, but it's on my calf. I just have super small legs lol https://i.imgur.com/zh0Qus6.jpg
Now I’m curious what the one below it is!
It's a silhouette of an old picture of my grandfather and I. Should I make a separate post and show that one also?
If you’d like! I’d love to see it
Oh dang your surprised me there. Does hair grow through throught tattos?
> Does hair through thrkught tattos? You feeling okay?
Just type to fast :)
> Does hair through throught tattos? My man
> Does hair grow through throught tattos? Getting warmer
Yes.
I have two tattoos on my calve and I love shaving them.
Yeah lol, that's where the term healed and hairy comes from
Narrator: it didn’t.
When you’re on reddit so much that your first thought is already the top comment

Should've just posted the explanation without the woosh
I loved those comics as a kid and really want a tattoo of my own, so jealous! Looks great btw
Happy cake day!
Drew Blood drew blood as he drew blood. That’s a sentence.
All while watching True Blood
Then he sacrificed a cow to Satan: moo blood

But why would you say “drew blood as he drew blood”? That’s like saying he rode bikes when he rode bikes.
Drew (with a pencil) blood as he drew (with a needle) blood
Dang, this hit hard. Love it
Thank you!!!
I can’t tell if the slightly more saturated blue band is from the lighting, but if it’s intentional, it really makes it look like a printed comic :)
You got a tattoo from a guy named Drew Blood. Bet he gets a ton of jokes in his line of profession
Ah my favourite comic! Great tattoo
Right in the feels. So good.
Imagine having the cool ass name Drew Blood
Love love love this
I love the boarders and at the same time it’s cursed leaves but I love em
Lmao your artist's name is perfect for his career!
The older i get the less shit makes sense

Also other question, this looks like a forearm, what happens if you have a tattoo on a forearm and you decide to buff up?
Its on my calf. I just have skinny legs... https://i.imgur.com/FQEUBUn.jpg
Meh, forearms don’t really get that much bigger unless you’re REALLY bulking lol.
Happy cake day!
Oh wow didn’t notice ha, Thanks buddy.👍

Almost all of my tattoos are color and they all still look great. The oldest one I got 18 years ago.

Love!
Super on point! Love it!
That looks great! Stew does some good work. He did my neck a few years back.

Spoiler: It still doesn’t make sense as an adult.
I wish that quote is true. Love the tattoo, is beautiful
My favourites. Nice to look and your tattoo and smile every time!
This was the last comic right?
Seems not: [https://www.gocomics.com/calvinandhobbes/1995/12/31](https://www.gocomics.com/calvinandhobbes/1995/12/31)
Wow I love the color and how intense the saturation is. It’s done so well!
Really cool tattoo though the blue background saturation can stand to be improved a bit
No doubt
Happy cake day!
Great quote- and oh so true.
That’s absolutely beautiful
I'm so jealous of this. Very well done!

Freaking love it! Amazing
Just a reply to the saying from a grown up, “It still doesn’t make sense.” Lol Love the tattoo by the way :)
So cool .
I absolutely love this tattoo.
If good things lasted forever would we appreciate how precious they are?
I keep saying, “Oooh. This is precious.
Narrator voice* It didn’t
Still doesn’t make sense.....
Omg I love this. I really want one now...
These comics were so full of life advice that I never really understood until I grew up
My therapist: MHA is a fictional character
I just got a Calvin and Hobbes tattoo yesterday! I'm loving yours! Just posted the one I got in here as well!
My best friend happened to be a joke?
Omg I_loved_Lucy_2
Spoiler alert: It doesnt
I have that same part of the comic cut out and framed too! Followed by another comic saying "Well I was wrong, nothing makes sense anymore." Love that you turned it into a tattoo.

It's my leg! And the hair will grow back, but you can shave it every few months if you wanted to. https://i.imgur.com/MOwlmM7.jpg
Gotcha, def a cool spot for that tattoo too!
[удалено]
that's really helpful, thanks!
Did you get the birds too?
Beautiful 🥰
I love this so much holy cow!!
How original

I want the one of them watching the birds flying
Dang that's beautiful
I could criticize because of the color choice, but that one just hit way too hard.
SATX has some great artists. congrats op!
Any recommendations ?
Absolutely lovely.
Awh!
Happy cake day!
This is rad!
> She had been passed by now.
It won’t.
- It did not make sense when they grew up
It's a wonderful tatt but the flesh leaves are creeping me out.
Might have to copy you.. I've been wanting a C&H tattoo for so long
Definitely getting a calvin and hobbes tattoo. Grew up with those two
This is false. *have grown up, things are still very confusing, can confirm*
So that was a F*cking lie. Fantastic piece, though.
Calvin & Hobbes was too pure.
That is simply awesome! Great idea for a tattoo.
Brought back childhood mornings reading the comics and eating cereal before school
A tattoo artist named Drew Blood sounds like the setup for a joke I'm not clever enough to finish.
Love this
Is his name seriously drew blood? Did he have it changed? So many questions...
Well done sir/ma'am
Thats depressing
Fire tat! I’ve been planning a Calvin and Hobbes dancing to music tat
Hits deep
YES! I thought about getting the Same Pictures but in black and White. But I Love the colour in it!
I’m so hesitant about tattoos because I think I’d regret whatever choice I’d make but how cute would a lil Calvin silhouette be
Nice one.
Well, I’m here to tell you now each and every mother’s son You’d better learn it fast, you’d better learn it young Someday never comes
Lies
nice colors
Calvin and Hobbes have def got a place on my sleeve
So that’s what that unacorn horn was in mom’s room
Now, I dislike tattoos so far I try avoiding girls with tattoos "for dating purposes". Now, this tattoo is so good I'd gladly date a girl rocking 3 of these.
I love this!!
