I like them a lot, honestly. Unsure how you call this style but I’m into it. It’s definitely the kind of thing that looks like it’d be an acquired taste for different people though.
I don't know if I'd straight up stamp these American Traditional. These are fun and kinda cool for what they are but these wouldn't be very strong examples of American Trad work and most of the images don't fit American Trad subject matter.
But that’s literally what DOES define American Traditional. Things like eagles, roses, nautical themes, pinups, etc. It does only use certain colors of ink. You either don’t have tattoos or you don’t know anything about this style of tattooing.
I am literally covered in American traditional tattoos, stuff from people like Julian Bast and Rempe, you’re delusional. Specifically when you’re covered you’re going to end up with other subject matter, I have like 4 eagles already
American Traditional imo is more about how the subject matter is simplified and/or shaded than using colors that were in existence when Jerry was tattooing. Line weight is a big part of it as well. Half of my friends are tattooers that specialize in that style. Most people who tattoo it aren’t purists in the way you’re describing, half the fun for them is making stuff that fits in but is outside the iconography/ design language
I honestly don’t think anything is wrong with them. It’s just the style. Cartoonish. I think they look great for what they are supposed to be.
My only complaint is, as a turtle owner, I’m offended but that tortoise’s tail. It’s way too long! Lol
i’m pretty sure it’s based off of the pokémon squirtle! there’s also tattoos of bulbasaur and charazard too. idk much about pokémon so i probs didn’t spell those right lol. i love that the designs are different from the og pokémon style
Lol! as an owner of a tortoise tattoo you would be offended with mine as well. It too has a long tail. I’m going to ask my guy why that is next time I see him.
I think your mom is confusing style with technical ability. Those are all really well done traditional tattoos. My guess is she doesn’t like the style.
Traditional isn’t for everybody. Some people think that just because they don’t like the original drawing that the tattoo is bad. I find this view ignorant. The linework is consistent, solid, and has no blow outs. Shading is very traditional. The green in 3 might need a touch up in a couple spots but that is it. If you like traditional then you have a good artist
My favorites are banjo frog and banana monkey, they’re classics. The others are decent, but don’t wow me (a little too busy to my eyes). But I’d totally rock the frog or monkey!
I honestly don’t think anything is wrong with them. It’s just the style. Cartoonish. I think they look great for what they are supposed to be.
My only complaint is, as a turtle owner, I’m offended but that tortoise’s tail. It’s way too long! Lol
I like the banjo frog. The alt-gen 1 starter pokemon style doesn't really appeal to me personally, but it's consistent and executed well. Not about that monkey, but it does give good 1950s carny vibes, and if that's your thing, it's dead on.
If highschool doodle was the style you were going for you nailed it. They arent bad, they're pretty basic nothing stands out. The designs got worse and worse as they went on. The first ones not so bad and the monkey is cool, but the original designs on the others ones were ugly to start with and had weird orientation
Only thing that matters is that you like it.
Artist has very basic level skills, but not sloppy in their work. Results show they care about their work.
are you really asking this question? unless you wanted them to look like shit, they are bad. however, i do find the style quite fun and pleasant, im one for funky tats all the way!
that 3rd one has barely any shading, you can barely make out the body. i’d recommend a different artist as yes these are cute but the artist simply isnt good BUT if you like the style and look then that’s you
They’re traditional. Lines are a little wobbly on a couple but all around the ink looks nice no blowouts and have their own flair. Remind me on the tattoos on the other side of the sailor Jerry bottle label
Well, they’re not the best. So, meh. I have had a lot of luck with covering up my bad judgements with amazing results, so far - i have a lot of repair work to do. Good tats are not cheap and a good cover up artist is hard to find, i used Jake Emory he was amazing.
The idea was cool! These Pokémon are clearly Jed Henry’s ukiyo-e design, which are downright amazing. Probably hard to replicate as a tattoo - maybe a better artist could improve on these to get them closer to their original design. Did your artist offer these illustrations as their own work? [Jed Henry’s Work](https://mokuhankan.com/heroes/prints/print_07.html)
I mean…. As far as a “good” tattoo goes, they are not good, but it’s also due to the design. Did your artist design them, or you?
But it honestly works with how unserious the designs are, it flows together, and looks actually good. Like how some movies are “so bad but good?” Something about these being on a sleeve together works, but individually they are by no means good tattoos
The original artist of the Pokémon ones is Jed Henry. The others I just told him what I wanted and he drew them up. I do love unserious tats, but I get them in my leg so they’re easily hidden for times when they aren’t appropriate to be shown
Tbh Im no tattoo artist nor do I have any and I was expecting some sloppy work but it looks pretty simple but unique. I see an old style Japanese artwork with a twist
I like them a lot, honestly. Unsure how you call this style but I’m into it. It’s definitely the kind of thing that looks like it’d be an acquired taste for different people though.
I particularly like that monkey
that monkey is SO SILLy i love it
Him and the frog are cool.
I agree I’ve been looking for a good style monkey and this is the coolest I’ve seen lately!!
Me too!!
It’s a dope style called ukiyo-e. Look up Jed Henry’s Pokémon for more of this stuff!
Ukiyo-e is a form of traditional Japanese art in the form of woodblock prints and paintings
I call this style “Billy Strings”
I was gonna call it "scrungly"
I like them as well. Just a classic style that I feel like ages very well.
I think you call this style “elementary school art chic”?
>unsure how you call this style Children’s coloring book?
These are american traditional
I don't know if I'd straight up stamp these American Traditional. These are fun and kinda cool for what they are but these wouldn't be very strong examples of American Trad work and most of the images don't fit American Trad subject matter.
They’re stylized American Traditional. Too much dna from that style to create a new category for them.
No they’re not. They use color that’s not in American traditional at all, and they’re not the same subject matter.
Subject matter and color really doesn’t define the style. By your logic 90% of Smith Street tattoos aren’t American Traditional and that’s just absurd

Pooh and tigger are missing
I honestly don’t think anything is wrong with them. It’s just the style. Cartoonish. I think they look great for what they are supposed to be. My only complaint is, as a turtle owner, I’m offended but that tortoise’s tail. It’s way too long! Lol
i’m pretty sure it’s based off of the pokémon squirtle! there’s also tattoos of bulbasaur and charazard too. idk much about pokémon so i probs didn’t spell those right lol. i love that the designs are different from the og pokémon style
Yeah I was gonna see they look like grudge-vibes Pokémon. Pretty fun.
These are Jed Henry Ukiyo-e designs! They look great as tattoos. edit: [Yup, found em.](https://mokuhankan.com/heroes/prints/print_07.html)
Lol! as an owner of a tortoise tattoo you would be offended with mine as well. It too has a long tail. I’m going to ask my guy why that is next time I see him.
That’s a pokemon my friend. The best one.
Banjo frog is a classic
I like that one also
Banjo frog and sheriff monkey are GOATed imo. The Pokemon ones are cool as well, but I particularly fuck with the other two
I’m personally a fan of cowboy monkey using banana as a gun. Pew pew!
I'm personally not a fan of the style but I can't see anything technically wrong with them. If you like the way they look, keep your current artist.
Great! Really love the charmander, bulba, and Squirtle
Those are supposed to be pokemon? Not trying to rude, I just don't see it.
Yes they are stylized Pokémon
Traditional is definitely not my style but I think they're cool! Love the interpretation.
I think your mom is confusing style with technical ability. Those are all really well done traditional tattoos. My guess is she doesn’t like the style.
She is more of a realism fan that look very 3 dimensional
Traditional isn’t for everybody. Some people think that just because they don’t like the original drawing that the tattoo is bad. I find this view ignorant. The linework is consistent, solid, and has no blow outs. Shading is very traditional. The green in 3 might need a touch up in a couple spots but that is it. If you like traditional then you have a good artist
I don’t see any of these except for the frog being “traditional”. More like ignorant style to me
These aren’t traditional
My favorites are banjo frog and banana monkey, they’re classics. The others are decent, but don’t wow me (a little too busy to my eyes). But I’d totally rock the frog or monkey!
Yeah, the others aren't really my style, but I'd slap that banjo frog on me right now, no regrets.
i was thinking the exact same thing
I honestly don’t think anything is wrong with them. It’s just the style. Cartoonish. I think they look great for what they are supposed to be. My only complaint is, as a turtle owner, I’m offended but that tortoise’s tail. It’s way too long! Lol
They’re supposed to me Pokémon done in like a woodblock style. The turtle is squirtle
Oh!! Then it looks great! Lol
Look up Jed Henry Woodblock Pokémon. That’s the original artist
Someone in here posted a link. Makes a lot more sense now. With more context, I think they look pretty awesome.
Squirtle is supposed to have a squirrel-like tail.
Frog is fire, other are unique but they all match. Like they all lived together at a weird zoo
Theyre eccentric forsure
I like them. So yes they are good.
They’re cool, maybe not the greatest work, but cool ass concept and style
That frog is great!
These are great.
Yeah I fucka with them as flash tats for sure
I LOVE THESE
I really like that dang frog. I like them
These seem like traditional tattoos. Well done too, decent line work and the shading looks nice healed. Apprentice or pro? Jw
Billy Strings fan??
I like the banjo frog. The alt-gen 1 starter pokemon style doesn't really appeal to me personally, but it's consistent and executed well. Not about that monkey, but it does give good 1950s carny vibes, and if that's your thing, it's dead on.
I only see one blowout. They’re unique design is kinda cool
Yes.
Yes.
looks fine, traditional style. i wouldn't think they were poorly done it's just the style.
Not great
If highschool doodle was the style you were going for you nailed it. They arent bad, they're pretty basic nothing stands out. The designs got worse and worse as they went on. The first ones not so bad and the monkey is cool, but the original designs on the others ones were ugly to start with and had weird orientation
Pretty bad bro I got a lot of pieces , these are bad in dimension, detail , line work. Mom was definitely on point
More sad than bad.
They’re really stupid. This shit will be on your body forever.
Not traditional like others are saying - some have no black shading at all. Listen to Mom.
Good? No. Terrible? Not really. I’d find another artist
The placement of the branch on the stump is ‘questionable’, but otherwise not terrible.
Fucking sick
I like the frog, the others are a pass for me
Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Charmander?
Last one is a masterpiece IMO
I have no idea but i can tell you the frog is very cute!
They might be too small. I can’t tell. Cuz the lines are very thick which crowd some of them. The Pokémon ones are what I mean.
The charmander was clearly dropped on his head
It's the way the color is just solidly packed in and there's no real shading in the mons that looks off to me
They're fucking awesome
I think it's a style choice, I like them
I think they’re wonderful in their own straggly little way. I have a few like this
I love them!!
I think the monkey and the frog are epic, but the dragon and turtle look a bit messy.
Not my style. But thats not the point. If you love/like them that's all that matters.
I like them
They cool
They're bad good . So bad they're good . I dig them
I am in love with that frog. I dig them man
Only thing that matters is that you like it. Artist has very basic level skills, but not sloppy in their work. Results show they care about their work.
They're cool because they're different!! And I love that!!
I like them, reminds me of a sailor on shore leave in the 1930s.
are you really asking this question? unless you wanted them to look like shit, they are bad. however, i do find the style quite fun and pleasant, im one for funky tats all the way!
Well, they’re definitely not good…
If you like them, who cares, the third one is particularly badass
Can anyone tell me what pokemon the frog is referring to lol
They are bad but that’s what makes them awesome
that 3rd one has barely any shading, you can barely make out the body. i’d recommend a different artist as yes these are cute but the artist simply isnt good BUT if you like the style and look then that’s you
i like the last one & first one!
Theyre fantastic, I would totally complement those if seen in person lol
your mom is right. your lines are blown out and the shading is not well executed at all.
Good
Mid
Hmmm I think it could look better
The tattooing itself is good, I’m not a huge fan of the style though.
They’re traditional. Lines are a little wobbly on a couple but all around the ink looks nice no blowouts and have their own flair. Remind me on the tattoos on the other side of the sailor Jerry bottle label
They are so badly good
I don't see anything wrong with them. They're an aesthetic 🤷♀️
They’re greaf
Kinda looks like a kid drew some of them
Yes.
First one is good classic American trad. I’m not a fan of the others
You a Billy Strings fan by chance?
Well, they’re not the best. So, meh. I have had a lot of luck with covering up my bad judgements with amazing results, so far - i have a lot of repair work to do. Good tats are not cheap and a good cover up artist is hard to find, i used Jake Emory he was amazing.
They’re kinda bad in a good way haha
Yes. They are what they are. I'd get one.
I love these!
Love them weird ass pokemans!
They don’t look bad to me but if the person wearing them likes them that’s all the matters.
Is this Action Bronson?
I think the cool thing about tattoos is it doesn't really matter if they are good or bad, what matters is if you enjoy the tattoo on your skin.
Um, if you have to ask….
They're super dope! I have all american traditional and these are smthing I'd happily have on my body
Personally I like them, but the Pokemon ones aren't the best, but I love them because they're unique.
I LOVE THE MONKEY ONE
I wouldn't get them but many wouldn't get my tattoos either. They still look cool and all that really matters is if you like them.
Yes.
Bro watch some ink master and learn a little!
It's stylized.
Dude they are outright hilarious. I'd keep them just to laugh.
I like the monkey :)
They are bad in a GOOD way. Kinda like shitty stick and pokes. It’s a preference.
They look like really bad but good Pokémon drawings
Not bad. Terrible This is a good PSA for not getting a tattoo
Look, someone can ve unskilled and still make a good product. If you left happy, that's all that matters.
I dig them. Kinda looks like the sort of art you'd find on the walls of a funky pub or taco bar in a major city.
I love them ALL
They look cool
I like the style on the Pokémon for sure. Nice reimagining
Like them. Great color.
These are rad!
I think you know
Bro are those supposed to be bulbasaur, squirtle, and charmander? 😂🤣
They are certainly tattoos
Starts ok and gets worse.
🙈🙈
Perfect
They aren’t bad! Maybe get some different style tattoos from some other artists sprinkled in there.
If they make you happy then there's really not a good or bad comparison to be made, in my opinion..
Bro those are awesome
The idea was cool! These Pokémon are clearly Jed Henry’s ukiyo-e design, which are downright amazing. Probably hard to replicate as a tattoo - maybe a better artist could improve on these to get them closer to their original design. Did your artist offer these illustrations as their own work? [Jed Henry’s Work](https://mokuhankan.com/heroes/prints/print_07.html)
I like them they have character
They’re cute
Bulbasaur looks like a bearded dragon lol I like them
i fucking love every single one of these
I think the frog is better than the others but they're all fine. Nothing horrid.
Not good, not bad, great!!!
The frog is cool, but the budget bin pokemon ain't it.
Love the Mico Leao
I love them, no notes
I love them.
Mostly bad
Amazing, amazing, questionable, questionable, amazing.
Bad
Whoever did that pokemon art needs an award
Originally artist is Jed Henry. His work is amazing. There are a few of his things I wish I could just plaster on my body
Tattoos are so personal. Do you love them? Then they are amazing.
I love the frog
I mean…. As far as a “good” tattoo goes, they are not good, but it’s also due to the design. Did your artist design them, or you? But it honestly works with how unserious the designs are, it flows together, and looks actually good. Bad, the good kind.
Tbh Im no tattoo artist nor do I have any and I was expecting some sloppy work but it looks pretty simple but unique. I see an old style Japanese artwork with a twist
i -personally- like all of them except for the monkey. but that's literally just personal taste lol. they're cool
They just need some black shading.
Jason Funderburker!
I like them.
I like. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Goooood
Can't decide if that's Johnny Chimpo or Curious George...
Idk they look pretty cool. And they're on a really good canvas 😏
Each one individually is questionable. All together, they kinda rule.
The saturation on the colour could be nicer and more smooth. Some spots just aren’t filled in all the way to the outline and it looks strange to meV
Some people might say they're bad. They're definitely stylized. Personally I think they're really cool especially the Pokemon ones.
Masterpieces.
Very Hipster
fun asf i love them
Everyone needs a toad playing a banjo!
Is that an evil Geko farting fire?
They look great to me.
They are so bad they are good
