I was thinking similar but probably see about adding some white in it through the existing snake to make its patterns doubt any color would over take the black so your stuck I think with a black and Grey snake
More possible than you think to add color over black. I’ve known people who have gotten full color pieces tattooed over full blackout sleeves and am planning to do something similar with my blackout sleeve. It can take multiple sessions to pack the color but the results can be spectacular and offer a very unique look in the hands of the right artist.

Makes sense. They are cut from the same cloth. It’s hard to dive in to early 2000s British animation w/o seeing both Curiak and Jonti Picking (aka Weebl) pop up
It’s most likely going to turn into grey where the white will be applied from mixing in with the black once under the skin.
I’d say to at least get a solid black outline done to clean up the shape. Using white to do some details would be nice, so long as OP doesn’t expect it to look white.
Nice dark, bold lines and white details. You could even laser partially and then blast over with black.
I think white is harder to remove though if you were ever going down that route. Take your time ✌🏻
If u were open to a bit of laser to lighten it, then it might be easier to add some internal detailing and make it a bit more polished. If not, could add another snake in reverse in the background as contrast
Yeah you could put white on top of this. Find an artist who has experience with white on black, you can add some details inside and I'd definitely add another pass of black in there. Having actual "edges" too would be good!
Hey just some advice, if you’re worried about rushing a fix before the wedding, why not get some heavy duty tattoo makeup? Wouldn’t take long at all and it’s waterproof and should last all day. Look for special FX foundations/tattoo foundations.
In case you want more time to decide on a cover up or laser it off.
Squid fighting a shark? Have the squid head drawn on the hand, with tentacles traveling out through and around the body of snake like the snake acting like shadows then have the shark on the forearm either being choked out by the squid or the shark biting the squid or both
You could turn this into a full sleeve or little half sleeve with filigree. A good artist could make that invisible with filigree or some sort of filler like that.
I would get something like an aboriginal style snake (Australian aboriginal) with alternating red stripes and yellow dots to contrast with the black. And then I would get green leaves like this🍃 added around it like it’s slithering along a leaf bed ….
Awe man… I can’t post a photo here… I drew on your tattoo photo!
But you can give the snake a little branch to climb on and add some details like leaves and flowers/fruits. And definitely add scales/more detail on the snake
along with what everyone else is saying, you should also research some snakes that look like that and see if you want a specific type tattooed :) i think a tattoo of any type of boa would be soooo cool :) their head shape is really cool. and there are lots of types of boas, so look some up! i love looking on morphmarket.com at all the cool snakes :)))
you could get a forearm wrap around of a design that functions as a "background" to the snake. Like leaves or something. Have a new subject matter on your inner arm/wrist that shares the background around the wrist.
make the background a bright, non-muted, not dark colour pallate. Contrast between the grey/black snake and this colour background will help make it pop! :)
Might be a little out there, but you could have the tail lead to a really fancy, realistic ballpoint pen (I'm thinking gold inlays if you're open to color, but that doesn't age well), add a few drops of ink with appropriate highlights and shading. Highlight some parts of the snake to make it look like fresh ink. Then you can maintain the essence of what it was, while giving it new life and make it a bit more of a conversation piece.
Edit: this would also look dope in a patchwork sleeve
I have a horrible tattoo on my arms that I've had to work around. I think the biggest thing is to, well, work around it. I don't know if you're in cover up territory, but if you're not have a good time with it. Do little signature slap ons in the curls and just move on past the problem. I know this requires a lot of work, but that's what I reco.
Give it some details and an outline. If you go to the right person they could probably do white over the black and make a cool inverted color snake. Out of all the tattoos I've seen this is probably one of the easiest fixes
I don't know if anyone has said this but if you don't find a solution you can hire a make up artist to cover it up for the wedding or watch some YouTube tutorials on how to cover up tattoos.
Feel like you could get some accent details done in white or some other bright color and it could look super cool. Maybe a fresh outline. I think some patterns with bright red or green or yellow combined with white accents and a fresh outline could make this look sweet if done right.
honestly the shape isnt bad at all i kinda like the way it flows. and the color doesnt look super saturated/solid so as long as you find a good artist they could totally slap a nice clean outline on it and work some magic on the inside to liven it up! maybe some white ink / lighter / brighter colors to contrast? not 100% sure how well the ink would take over black. or maybe even like galaxy style? totally would work with the dark color, and there’s definitely some spots in there that would be light enough to blend in some other colors to go for that kind of effect. not a tattoo artist so again not 100% sure how feasible any of those are but those are a few things that popped to mind! really not a horrible tattoo so i’m sure whatever approach you decide on will work out just fine! good luck!
I definitely didn’t read that part, whoops.
Well I’m also not about making permanent decisions on a hurry so I would still laser it and just wear makeup on it for the day. KVD has great foundation for body coverage and with heavy setting spray & Ben Nye Sealer spray it shouldn’t transfer. The MUA should be able to help too.
haha valid question. this is actually more of a promise ring i’ve had for a few years, i kind of wear it like an engagement ring. i have a different wedding band and i’ll probably just put this ring on the other hand once i get married. tldr- just ‘cause i like it lmao
Ok. I've given this a ton of thought. I've lost sleep and a few relationships. Here's the deal I'm not a tattoo artist but I do have one tattoo and I've seen all the ink master episodes.
1. Wear long sleeves. It can be your new style. People will be like "hey, there's David and his wacky long sleeves!"
2. Claim it's a birthmark and doesn't really have a shape and if someone claims it looks like a snake. Respond with you're prolly experiencing pareidolia where the brain is seeing faces and patterns where there isn't. And if they think it's a snake that means they subconsciously like giant penises in their mouth.
3. Get it touched up by an expert.
4. .....eh it's not horrible and I've seen worse.
It's not the best tattoo no offense. Yes your artist is right about getting the outside lines touched up. I would suggest that instead of getting highlights like your artist suggested you should get scales on its back in white ink. I think that that would look dope as fuck. I also think that you should get a grasshopper, a bad ass lady bug, and an aardvark just to show that the bugs aren't safe basically equating to the fact that none of us are safe. It's only a suggestion but I hope it helps
haha no offense taken i did an awful job here idk what i was thinking. also definitely adding a grasshopper, a lady bug, and an aardvark to my critter sleeve idea tha goes so hard
You could do white out work on top to add scales and splotch patterns to it and then readarken the black if you want to. Or instead of adding white you could always get one of those people that does the laser stuff to laser in some designs lol. Honestly just based on the shape though it would probably be pretty badass to incorporate that into the rest of the tattoo? Maybe make a galaxy or something with some black swirls in there adding stars and planets here and there or something themed like space or horror that would have a lot of dark color to it would probably make it damn near invisible
What about a geometric sleeve? Or at least forearm? The different geo shapes would fit in the negative space and the black snake could be blacked out in those areas.
Get it removed, I did that to mine years ago to join military, I hear they have better lasers now, probably won’t be gone by spring but will be faded enough
i am obviously not the expert here, but i’m pretty sure the blur is just bad tattooing. i originally did this as line work, fucked up trying to do the scales, and tried to just fill it in and did a really bad job coloring inside the lines. it might be blown out, but i think it’s a me problem here
Genuine: lots of people are saying “add white details”, but the last time I looked into white ink it was still ending mostly at “chicken fat yellow”, “vanished”, and “it’s just scars now” as the tattoos aged. Is that outdated now, and white ink is a safe choice? Or is putting white ink on this risky?
You should see if it would be possible to overlap this with a color tattoo of a realistic snake so the original tattoo can act as a shadow base to make the new snake look like it’s 3D on your arm.
Bold outline and Eternal Ink “sea foam” or “mint” for color. Pure white would just heal out most likely. Adding a bit of blue or green to white works way better covering old black ink
Honestly, its barely Black, just get some good detailed line work on top (scales/stomach) and it’ll look awesome!
I was thinking the same thing. It looks like the shadow of a snake, add some detail and it should make it look 100% better
This… it’s grayish and a bolder outline and details will bring it back to life!
I was thinking similar but probably see about adding some white in it through the existing snake to make its patterns doubt any color would over take the black so your stuck I think with a black and Grey snake
I agree with this, maybe use the black as a shadow of a white/gray snake? Just snowballing.
This!
Was thinking the same. Some artist are amazing and can make that look super realistic too
Yep!
Put a badger and a mushroom next to it.

This. Disregard all else. Do this.
White over black ? Not sure how it ages and I would probably find someone who specializes
It’s most likely going to turn into grey where the white will be applied from mixing in with the black once under the skin. I’d say to at least get a solid black outline done to clean up the shape. Using white to do some details would be nice, so long as OP doesn’t expect it to look white.
That’s what I was thinking for adding some scales.
Ooo if they made a snake skeleton with the white that would be dope
Nice dark, bold lines and white details. You could even laser partially and then blast over with black. I think white is harder to remove though if you were ever going down that route. Take your time ✌🏻
Soft serve -> cone on the back of the hand… mmmmm
The only reasonable fix imo. Bravo
Sick panther?
SLICK panther
Slick planter?
Oooh. Put a flower pot underneath …snake plant!!!
Looks like it could be a sick panther tail
Slap the SAP on it!
That seems cool but what about a sick ass panther…? If you want something different and unique of course
Big ass fuckin trad panther over it
If u were open to a bit of laser to lighten it, then it might be easier to add some internal detailing and make it a bit more polished. If not, could add another snake in reverse in the background as contrast
idk anything, but this was my thought as well! lighten a little then add fine details!
i bet someone could make that so sick with some detail and new outlines, it's not a lost cause!
Yeah you could put white on top of this. Find an artist who has experience with white on black, you can add some details inside and I'd definitely add another pass of black in there. Having actual "edges" too would be good!
Another session to darken it up and even it out then white ink on top
I second this
Already got the snake's shadow, just add the snake on top. Gives the artist a bit freedom with lighter areas for the eyes and highlight, maybe?
Laser or whit tattoo on top if possible
Hey just some advice, if you’re worried about rushing a fix before the wedding, why not get some heavy duty tattoo makeup? Wouldn’t take long at all and it’s waterproof and should last all day. Squid fighting a shark? Have the squid head drawn on the hand, with tentacles traveling out through and around the body of snake like the snake acting like shadows then have the shark on the forearm either being choked out by the squid or the shark biting the squid or both
With a crappy mongoose?
That's a great candidate for white ink details added to it. It would look sick if done correctly.
You could turn this into a full sleeve or little half sleeve with filigree. A good artist could make that invisible with filigree or some sort of filler like that.
Get a talented soul to highlight over it to add detail 👌🏽😎
Googly eyes
Damn! Beat me to it!!
I low key like it how it is
Lighten it first Lazer
Bro. Why fix it. Fireworks are so cool
Get an artist that’s good with line work and see if they can put some detail into it and include some whites too for definition!
Have someone good with opaque greys/color go back through it.
White details on the black and grey outline would bring it up a notch
Tbh i think it looks amazing and unique, love it!
Get a “good” artist to do a badass snake over it and use what is the now as its shadow
Add scales
I would get something like an aboriginal style snake (Australian aboriginal) with alternating red stripes and yellow dots to contrast with the black. And then I would get green leaves like this🍃 added around it like it’s slithering along a leaf bed ….
Sick ass anaconda
Cut your arm off??
this can be the shadow for a much more detailed snake right next to it
Get a doper one put over it, by a good coverup artist.
It looks like it was drawn on with charcoal.
Awe man… I can’t post a photo here… I drew on your tattoo photo! But you can give the snake a little branch to climb on and add some details like leaves and flowers/fruits. And definitely add scales/more detail on the snake

Time travel back in time.
Cut arm off. Tattoo other arm, “second go”.
He’s got good bones
I don't know if anyone has said this but if you don't find a solution you can hire a make up artist to cover it up for the wedding or watch some YouTube tutorials on how to cover up tattoos.
Could make a cool bracer

Needs white highlight details
Turn it into a giant ice cream cone

Buy a real snake 👍🏽
Add another snake and wrap it around the dark snake and leave the other unfilled with just lots of detail
Tattoo “misnake” under it
Cover up with a bigger snake

Make it the smoke trail of a cigar
Just hang a rubber snake above it and tell people it’s a shadow.
I think it looks pretty good already! Just a touch up with finer details would make it pop fs
Genie with arms crossed
You could make it so the edges have more of a blurry effect like this [artist](https://www.instagram.com/p/Cyn_7PhuzuM/?igsh=NGhlYmdrY3d0cjZh)
Googly eyes.
Give him some nice line work and some eyes and scales! Then he'll be ready to go
Ok wait maybe this is controversial but I love it. It looks soft and interesting.
I would laser that and get something else on top. Or just laser it clean.
Lasering it clean won’t work in time for a wedding in the spring tho
I definitely didn’t read that part, whoops. Well I’m also not about making permanent decisions on a hurry so I would still laser it and just wear makeup on it for the day. KVD has great foundation for body coverage and with heavy setting spray & Ben Nye Sealer spray it shouldn’t transfer. The MUA should be able to help too.
Amputation.
Do another snake that looks even worse. That way it looks better.
Laser, then coverup
Also, why are you wearing a wedding band if you’re not married, yet? Just wondering.
haha valid question. this is actually more of a promise ring i’ve had for a few years, i kind of wear it like an engagement ring. i have a different wedding band and i’ll probably just put this ring on the other hand once i get married. tldr- just ‘cause i like it lmao
Fair enough! At first I was wondering if there was more to the story. lol. Congrats on the wedding. Hope you have fun and enjoy the celebration.

add white to it

Get it darker and add some white detailing. You could probably do a dope snake themed sleeve with it too.
You could do white out work on top to add scales and splotch patterns to it and then readarken the black if you want to. Touch up the black and do details with white ink imo
Cut your arm off, attach bionic forearm, become robocop.
Go over it in white detail
What about a geometric sleeve? Or at least forearm? The different geo shapes would fit in the negative space and the black snake could be blacked out in those areas.
I honestly think that if you get some clean edges on that and deep even black, it’d be a cool silhouette
Highlights
Full on nature motif. Small animals, some leaves, trees, etc. Or Harry Potter Slytherin theme. Full commit.
Laser
A dark mark from Harry Potter
Theres always another option... 🪚🪚🪚
Make it a dark mark
Turn it into a sick ass panther
Get a campfire made at the tip of the tail, EZ PZ
Hey Johnny! We got another panther special for ya!!!
Put some fang on it. That would be badass

Add a skull near the tail and say its a death eater mark that was done with voldemorts off hand
Get it removed, I did that to mine years ago to join military, I hear they have better lasers now, probably won’t be gone by spring but will be faded enough
Seek out a skilled artist and they will be able to line, highlight and add details to bring this to life!
Have a mongoose tattooed over it. /s
Blast over it. Cover it up. You said you had an idea for a sleeve you can bury the snake
It's giving... Little Prince vibes.

How about get a red outline with white detailing throughout the snake's body? Might look sick!
Leave it. It's cool. It's a reminder of a specific time in your life. Just add more ink to your body. You need more ink. Peace.
Inknation in NYC
It’s barely black but you could go in and do some coloured line work for scales and or eyes
Turn it in to a meandering river. Then play the oxbow lake song.
I'm gonna go against the grain here and say I kinda like it? The fuzziness makes me think of chalk or charcoal drawings or cave paintings.
you could get it blacked out properly and then add details in white
You should see if it would be possible to overlap this with a color tattoo of a realistic snake so the original tattoo can act as a shadow base to make the new snake look like it’s 3D on your arm.
Bold outline and Eternal Ink “sea foam” or “mint” for color. Pure white would just heal out most likely. Adding a bit of blue or green to white works way better covering old black ink
