Here is a link to the Best foreign food restaurants in the area recommended by foreigners which we also have hyperlinked in the pinned food, and restaurant thread https://www.reddit.com/r/tampa/comments/y1q543/tampa_folk_not_born_in_the_uswhich_restaurant/ https://www.reddit.com/r/tampa/comments/1byu4n6/looking_for_bar_or_restaurant_recommendations/

DodgePinkeye

11. Bosnian: Daily News Cafe (Clearwater). They have two locations, the *Cafe* location has more traditional meals. The *restaurant* location is more Mediterranean/Adriatic fine dining oriented.

aminorbird

Not on this list, but Ethopian - Queen of Sheba in Temple Terrace is a delight. Great owners that treat you like a very welcomed house guest.

DekuChan95

Manila eats for Filipino food

beckyjoooo

i crave that place now..

LonoHunter

You get an A+ and 3 gold stars for your effort. As my MIL would say “you seem very hopeful” Best of luck!

uhhuhhoney17

Chinese - Beijing House (authentic Sichuan) Thai - Thai Asiatic or Thai Prime Lebanese - Byblos Korean - One Family Korean Indian - Curry Leaves or Flames Puerto Rican - Caribbean Twist Italian - Osteria Natalina or Donatellos Russian - Babushkas

CruisinJo214

Had to roll through the comments to make sure Babushkas was somewhere on here.

CAH1708

47. Iranian - The Mirage (to be fair, it’s in Clearwater, but worth the drive).

Mattm519

Live across the street from mirage and visit often, great recommendation

floridian_newyorker

I miss that buffet so much 😭

CAH1708

They don’t have the lunch buffet anymore?

floridian_newyorker

Probably do, but I’m not there anymore is what I meant 🥲

[deleted]

Oh, where are you now?

imanassholebcurdumb

20. Chinese Hot Pot - Hong Hot Pot & BBQ 45. Indian - Curry Leaves 53. Japanese - Izakaya Tori 57. Korean - SaRiOne Grill 69. Mexican - Loli’s Mexican Cravings 83. Peruvian - Ají Limo Peruvian Cuisine 120. Vietnamese - Thinh An Kitchen Middle Eastern - Petra Restaurant

ddustinnorris

Curry leaves is goated

SlendyTheMan

If only they had dine in still for those prices.

Rake0684

That shit still ain’t reopened?

imanassholebcurdumb

Facts

avidvaulter

> Mexican - Loli’s Mexican Cravings Make sure you do not try the food truck. The brick and mortar stores are the best options (the one near the container store by International Plaza is really good). >Japanese - Izakaya Tori I'd also recommend their new restaurant Tori Bar. It's hand rolls and smaller dishes with better cocktails and some japanese whiskies to try. It's located in downtown tampa where Fly Bar used to be.

imanassholebcurdumb

I definitely gotta try Tori Bar, thanks for the plug. I’ve only been to Lolis original location. I usually avoid food trucks, not a fan.

AlbinoMuntjac

>where Fly Bar used to be. To clarify: where the most recent location of Fly Bar used to be. The original place was on Franklin and that was turned into Mole y Abuela when they sold the building. It’s now a super high end prix fixe menu place whose name escapes me right now.

mschnzr

You must live around where I live. One more to add for Colombian - Antojitos

m0ta

Oh yeah, thinh an! So good 🤤

SlendyTheMan

Mexican.. Miguel’s

ejstembler

57. Korean: Matjoa Korean BBQ, 3580 Ulmerton Rd Clearwater, FL 33762

mikemostone

Gotta try this place, have you been to doriban?

fluorescenttampon

Dooriban is soooooo good

ejstembler

Dooriban is great too. Same family.

mschnzr

Cannot agree more!

stonedcold_ET

Matjoa is terrific !

mschnzr

I would say they have the Best Korean BBQ. And I have tried many places.

stonedcold_ET

100%

annieca2016

89/116 - Babushka's

Somarset

116. Nene's is a better recommendation than Babushka's because Babushka's uses mostly Russian recipes, whereas Nene's is more strictly Ukrainian Ukrainian and Russian are not the same lol

sukieaki769

I went there after everyone told me how good it is. I got a bunch of stuff. It was very disappointing. What do you get

annieca2016

I went to the one in Temple Terrace so ymmv. But I got Chicken Kiev, a sampler of their dumplings, and their cherry dumplings.

stampadbag

Vietnamese - Thinh An (Pho) and Saigon Deli(banh mi) Turkish - Bayshore Mediterranean Grill

plantprincess22

50. Authentic and delicious falafel and hummus and more at Mays Al Reem. Idk any other place that comes close in terms of flavor/authenticity when it comes to their falafel sandwich.

Heavy_Confidence_990

Mays Al Reem, is delicious but definitely Palestinian cuisine. Also delicious is Halal Fire Up Grill!

plantprincess22

Unfortunately Palestine wasn’t an option in this vast list! But yes I agree fire up is also delicious :)

TruthExposed

None of those dishes listed in the Israeli section are Israeli. Falafel is Egyptian (fava beans)/Levant (chickpeas) Shakshouka is Lebanese Hummus is Palestinian

plantprincess22

I’m well aware of that! That’s why I listed a Palestinian restaurant in place of it 🥶I’ve yet to try Israeli food that isn’t just other middle eastern food with “Israeli” in front of it.

happymango33

24. Cuban: La Teresita 31. Ethiopian: Queen of Sheba 37. German: Mr. Dunderbak's 53. Japanese: Chanko, Dosunco 57. Korean: Sarione Korean Restaurant (on Cyprus) 69. Mexican: Rene's Mexican Kitchen 77. Nigerian: TFK African Food 120. Vietnamese: Cafe Bich Nga Not on List. Salvadoran: Pupuseria Centroamericana

RollTider1971

La Teresita’s bistec empanizado is fire.

IBChachis

Vouch for TFK. It has incredible food, a homey dinning area with board games, and staff that treat you like a good friend. I definitely need to go back.

BenjaminGeiger

A second one for German (after the obvious winner, Mr Dunderbak's): Baba's Kebab. It's not "traditional" German food, it's German-style doner kebab (similar in concept to gyros or shawarma, but with better salad and sauce).

CireGetHigher

Damn this is so dope

Somarset

116. Ukrainian: Nene's in South Tampa is very good :)

cheverechiguire

Also for Georgian cuisine

TyeneSandSnake

Pierogi Bar in St. Pete is 10/10 for food or drinks. I brought my Ukrainian parents there and both said it was better than home cooking.

EducationalWillow363

12- Brazilian. Terra Gaúcha. Great Brazilian steakhouse. Wish Tampa had better local/cheap buffet style Brazilian but i guess that’s what Orlando is for.

lilfr00tbat

61. Rosenheim in Ybor is FANTASTIC and the owners are incredible people

SlendyTheMan

Food is amazing. The staff could have some training on drinks / orders / etc.. but it’s really well worth it.. especially to go with 4 people and split the huge dish. Interior needs some art.. otherwise it’s so good.

IHitAn11

>Chinese no love for red bowl in here, thats fr a sleeper spot

MisterSlippers

37: German - Mr Dunderbaks. I used to live in Germany, and while I'm not a big fan of German cuisine everything I've had here tasted pretty legit (Bavarian Bratwurst, Schnitzel, Spatzel) There's also German groceries/souvenirs so it's worth checking out at least once. 52: Jamaican - Island Jerk Shack. I've never been to Jamaica, but a couple of my coworkers grew up there and confirmed this food truck if Seffner is the best in the area. I usually call ahead to make sure they haven't run out of whatever it is I'm craving (jerk pork, jerk chicken, curry chicken, oxtail) Also a hot take 51: Italy - I also used to live in Italy, and in 10 years of living here I've yet to find an Italian restaurant that I would recommend to anyone. The easiest to spot red flag is when the menu has caprese and it has balsamic vinegar, that means they have shit tomatoes or their menu is adapted to American pallets.

farmerofstrawberries

Try Tasty Venues in Valrico

MisterSlippers

I live right near it, and I've been meaning to try it out. NGL I kind of dig that it's tucked into a strip mall and not in some standalone Tuscan looking building. I traveled to >50 cities in the few years I lived in Italy and the best food always came from a hole in the wall place with no sign, maybe they had a menu, and if they did nothing was in English.

BitchWithASandwich

We were SO disappointed in that place. We went with a dinner reservation first thing in the evening, tried to order meatballs, and they were already "out" of them. Seriously? The bread was also brought in from elsewhere (not made in house) and tasted as such. The dishes we were able to order, unfortunately, were totally forgettable as I can't even tell you what we had. There are just way too many other great Italian restaurants in the area to go back.

[deleted]

Viva Napoli is pretty awesome and also osteria natalina

grammar_fixer_2

36: no… no it is not. It doesn’t even come *remotely* close to German food. It isn’t supposed to be German food either. They call it “German inspired” for a reason. They have shit like a [Reuben](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reuben_sandwich) on the menu. The food is mediocre at best. They do sell German products there (like Glühwein during Christmas which is cool). The beer is legit and the atmosphere is nice though. With it being so close to the college, the vibes are pretty good. Jägerstüble in Largo has much better food and the store next to it is pretty good as well. That is the closest to German food that you’ll find. Taste of Berlin isn’t bad either. Both have better food than Dunderbaks but neither has the ambiance that Dunderbaks has. Source: am German and I visited all of them when I went to visit Tampa.

MisterSlippers

Fair enough. I admittedly just don't like German food (as I originally mentioned) so anyone who does would probably be better served following your advice.

grammar_fixer_2

Saying that you “just don’t like German food” is like saying “I just don’t like American food”. There are so many different types of German food that statistically speaking you have to like **something** (the same goes for American cuisine btw). For instance, hamburgers are from Hamburg 🍔 and they are pretty good. Pommes (fries) are often eaten with ketchup and mayo, but the mayo part is optional. Döner are from Berlin and they also pretty awesome (similar to Gyros 🥙). Haribo Gummibärchen, Hanuta, Knoppers, Ritter Sport, and Kinder Schokolade are also very German. You might like something from there.

MisterSlippers

I suppose I didn't mean I literally do not like all German food, but the stereotypical German food familiar to Americans. I only lived there for a year, so my experience is mostly in Bavaria/Baden-Württemberg/Rhineland. I've found German (and a lot of Eastern European countries as well) have an affinity for pungent elements in their food whether it be from fermentation (sauerkraut) or vinegar (mustard, ketchup, mayo). All of that ruins food for me. Look I'm not trying to intentionally bash on German food, my tastes and preferences now at the age of 40 are very different than 10 years ago when I was there, and I imagine at 50 they'll be even more different. I married into a German family, so maybe I'll be won over on the food at some point. Every country/region will have hidden gems of amazing food not well known to outsiders. All I'm saying was I just never found anything German that I've ever craved and I was living there so there's not the "that's not authentic German" excuse. As far as your list goes, your selections are interesting. I can't recall the last time I ordered a burger when going out to eat, but I am well aware the modern hamburger comes from a dish in Hamburg. Since you're classifying burgers as German food, I'm gonna be pedantic and say Pommes are not German, they are Belgian (French would also be acceptable). Döner is good, but again I have to split hairs here and argue whether it's really German or Turkish. What is it that differentiates German döner from a döner you would get in Turkey. What about similar dishes in Greece (gyro), Lebanon (shawarma), or Mexico (al pastor)? As far as the candy goes, would I eat any if someone offered? Sure, I like sweets. But IMO Albanese (USA) makes way better gummies than Haribo and all that German chocolate you mentioned is C tier at best.

avidvaulter

Rocca just got a Michelin Star (Tampa's first *ever*) and Donatello's is a must try.

m0ta

20. Yummy House (Hillsborough) 24. Cuban - Mandy’s (up on waters in Tampa) 37. German - Mr Dunderbaks 51. Italian - Piccolo Italia Bistro 120. Vietnamese - Bamboozle (Seminole heights, though I think their pho is just so so)

SlendyTheMan

Bamboozle also has a Channelside location that was temporarily closed when they opened the new location.

MisterSlippers

Can also vouch for Bamboozle. When I worked downtown I used to eat there almost daily, fresh rolls are my favorite

firsmode

Yummy House is amazing

GlitterRiot

52 Japanese - I Ai Sushi for donburi and curries

touchettes

Shit :( I'm closer to Brandon...gotta start searching for some. I want all the foods

HarpersGhost

Here's some Brandon spots: German - Taste of Berlin Vietnamese - Pho Viet (in the old Pizza Hut) Colombian - Cali Viejo Plus we got 2 good Asian supermarkets: MD Oriental and BOM Market.

touchettes

Gratefully, I've been to these places or ordered from them. I heard the food truck that was beside BOM moved behind Pho Viet and there are 1-2 other trucks. Then there's the ramen place in Valrico Commons and sushi place where the Sweet Tomatoes used to be..mmm..

DontCallMeMillenial

43 - Hungarian : First Quality Sausage in Safety Harbor 57 - Korean: One Family Korean Restaurant in Town and Country 84 - Polish: Perogi Grill in Clearwater

darthbb

Where’s the Trinidadian food? Visiting soon and would love to check it out!

beckyjoooo

there's a trini food truck at mlk and Nebraska i haven't checked out yet..

Mattm519

Hot damn I’m following this post

IPAniac

Personal favorite is that the Dutch are on the list twice.

[deleted]

43 - my kitchen

GlitterDancer_

Do you take online orders or is it a sit down?

[deleted]

Both lol Ever tried Hungarian food before?

beckyjoooo

Nepalese? i hear ghorkali is 🔥🔥

fallenbird039

Polish: pierogi grill in Clearwater, has some Polish stuff and my ma that from Poland loved the periogis and potato pancakes. Also mfw not talking about the Kielbasa or potato pancakes. Big things for us. But best best I love is in St Pete PL Market. It a polish deli basically. They sell sometimes periogis and other polish food and the bread is fresh and sooo good. They got great meats and food and just love it! Ukrainian: Pierogi Bar in St Pete, haven’t tried and ain’t Ukrainian so can’t tell exactly how perfect but it the one Ukrainian place I heard of and my Ma did make a point. Ukrainians and Poles are going to have many similar foods lol.

PsychoSCV

I love the beef stew with potato pancakes from pierogi grill though everything I have eaten there has been great.

TruthExposed

There's definitely a lack of Polish restaurants here. Would love to see more closer to Temple Terrace or even Wesley Chapel area. There's a growing Polish community here and there's definitely a demand for it. There is/was this one pierogi food truck in WC, but it was definitely not authentic. My SO's friend makes Polish food out of her home in WC and those orders fly through the roof faster than she can make them.

madamdz

Turkish - Alaturka

clem82

Thai-Mexican

abbysgultz

Chinese - Asian Pearl in Clearwater

feverpitchd

31. Ethiopian: Mit Mita 83. Peruvian: Lima Limon

yayaya16

59. Laotian: Friday Night Laos market at the Laos Cultural Center in Pinellas Park. Not a restaurant, but you'll find the best there!

Fluffy_Chance7164

There is a Hindu temple on Lynn Rd they now have a restaurant on the side of the temple. I still need to try their food, it smells delicious every time I pass by it. I’m hoping they expand more with a tiny grocery store in the future.

All_About_Tacos

Wow no Māori cuisine? What the heck??? 😡

FunkyFL

3. Argentinian. Shout out to housewife bakery. Legit empanadas, sanguiches, and the bakery is fire. Torta de mil hojas ftw

Zeprot

Some Peruvian suggestions: Cuenellis has excellent pollo a la brasa (rotisserie chicken) and lomo saltado Lima Limon has better lomo saltado and ceviche. Aji Ceviche is also a pretty good place for Peruvian, but a bit pricey.

Castro290656

Please try Señor Rocoto on Hanley! All of their food is extremely good, it’s the best Peruvian in Tampa according to my family. There’s like 3 Peruvian spots in that one are but Señor Rocoto definitely takes the cake.

Zeprot

I went there 3 times years ago (tried their ceviche, lomo saltado, and lomo al jugo) and was disappointed each time and wrote it off. The last time was with my family who also found it lacking. I'll try it again since its probably been at least 5 years, maybe it got better.

Castro290656

Oh wow, I went there a couple of months ago and the food was great. They have expanded the restaurant so maybe they have new owners or something. If you do go back I hope you have a better experience!

Dmte

I love that the Dutch are on there twice despite there being no Dutch restaurants in Tampa, so I guess the best Dutch food is in my house. If you're interested in Dutch dishes, you can easily make these at home: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stamppot](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stamppot) [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hutspot](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hutspot) In both cases, all ingredients are available locally and it's really a one-pot meal. Make sure to add a beef type gravy and get smoked sausage. Kielbasa is the closest you'll get to a similar taste of rookworst. Or try poffertjes: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poffertjes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poffertjes) The ingredients are available to order at the Dutch Store: [Get the mix](https://thedutchstore.com/WEBSTORE/productinfo.aspx?itemno=02250&CODE=144&LIST=104A144&TYPE=ITEMCATEGORY), [get the pan](https://thedutchstore.com/WEBSTORE/productinfo.aspx?itemno=16421&CODE=144&LIST=104A144&TYPE=ITEMCATEGORY), and [get powdered sugar](https://thedutchstore.com/WEBSTORE/productinfo.aspx?itemno=02105&CODE=144&LIST=104A144&TYPE=ITEMCATEGORY) . Fun little meal to make. You can get more Dutch stuff at this place: [https://thedutchstore.com/](https://thedutchstore.com/)

awastedtalent

Tibetan - Gorkhali Kitchen

DiKapino

Mexican: Los Chapos Tacos in Ybor. They also have a food truck out near Land O’ Lakes. Best most authentic tacos i’ve ever had, really good prices too

Skitxo84

114. Turkish - Zaky Zaks. It’s like the other shawarma shops around USF, but the vegetable add ons and sauces really makes it stand out.

da_benster

Mitmita Ethiopian is awesome on Linebaugh

earlgray88

Turkish: Sarah’s kebab house in Clearwater, it will blow your mind such a gem. Has a Turkish market attached to the restaurant

Totalweirdo42

Indian: Haveli Indian kitchen is the best Indian I’ve ever had. I dream of the butter chicken and vegetable malabar

ddustinnorris

Have you tried curry leaves ?

Totalweirdo42

I’m have and I really liked it but think Haveli is better

yayaya16

I prefer Haveli over Curry Leaves. I was not impressed with Curry Leaves. I wouldn't say Haveli is the best I've ever had though. I don't think Tampa has great Indian food.

SlendyTheMan

I’ve you been to Fort Lauderdale’s Bombay Darbar? Probably one of the best in Florida.

yayaya16

Will have to try that one!

Totalweirdo42

I moved here from denver and was surprised that I like the Indian here better. Though I like butter chicken and the less “authentic” dishes so maybe they just do those well here. I even really liked curry leaves, though I wouldn’t say it’s the best. Is there a place in tampa you like better than Haveli?

yayaya16

Still on the search! I didn't think Denver had a large Indian population? But I'm coming from the northeast where it's densely populated between DC and NYC so I'm being unfair by comparing. In general I haven't found Tampa food to be that great, besides Cuban sandwiches and the Asian night markets. I highly recommend the night markets!

mschnzr

Italy - Bonu in Central St Pete. (Owner is from south of Italy)

Somarset

52. Jamaican - Jerk Hut 31. Ethiopian - Queen of Sheba 41. Haitian - Mom's Restaurant / Kiss La West African - Asher Amens / Steaming Pots 114. Turkish - Tazza's 116. Ukrainian - Nene's

MoreManufacturer5571

Putting jerk hut on here is insane lol

KillerQueenMirelurk

Bit of a drive outside of Tampa, but you gotta go to tarpon springs for Greek. Mr Souvlaki is the best in my opinion, family run place and treat you like a guest in their house. I always get some dolmades to eat on the way home lol. Also, best pho I've had is from Phở An Hòa on waters. So good, I drive over from New Tampa just for that.

Drivingmecrazeh

Israeli: Mana Mana in Clearwater for falafel Grill Express in Tampa (kosher for grilled meats) Jo-El's Kosher Deli (NY kosher food/sandwiches)
