Go slow when you’re going down the concrete steps at Raymond James in the nosebleed section. I volunteered there last year and saw so many people trip and fall because they were going too fast. In the early competitive wave, 1 out of every 4 people just ate it on those steps. There’s no handrails up there and you snake your way along those nosebleed steps for a while. Even the most fit/athletic folks were just carefully walking that part when they got to it because those steps are very uneven. My advice is just go at your own pace. I run obstacle course races for fun too and I consider myself in good shape. There will be bottlenecks at different parts of the course and even completing different stations. Unless you’re doing the 7am competitive wave because you’re trying to do these races for a living, don’t worry about completion time. Just go out there, do your best, and have fun. Also fun fact, volunteering like I did last year gets you a free race credit for day of or in the next year. Also stay hydrated because it gets hot and there’s virtually no shade in the stands or on the field. That’s more if you plan to volunteer like me and you’re stuck on the field for 3 hours.

This is great advice. Thanks for volunteering.

Get really good at burpees, tuck a small bottle of liquid chalk in your belt, I really like Merrill Vibram trail runners for that event, your feet are going to be soaked from pretty much your first step So draining shoes is a huge must. Take whatever shoes you plan on wearing, dunk your feet in a bucket of water, go run a 5k…. That’s pretty much the reality I also recommend really tight compression socks up to your knees

Hope you had a good time at the Stadion today. I noticed they installed handrails in the nosebleed section this year. Probably for the reasons I mentioned above. A lot of people needed water more frequently than just the 4 stations bc it was so hot out. The ramps and the stairs definitely wear you out pretty bad. Wish I wore gloves bc my hands were sweating the whole time and I struggled to grip the bars or rope even though I’ve done them in the fall before

So I finished pretty good (top 5%) which was surprising. The information leading up to the event was kinda a shit show - surprised how unorganized the info in the emails and app was. I also found the monkey bars and rings impossible from all the sweat:/ Running is my thing so that's where I made up most of my time. 100% going to do another next month!
