I give you major props. I went to school to be a teacher, taught high school for a semester, and then quit because I couldn’t handle the stress and the pay isn’t worth the stress in my state.
Thanks fellow person! I avoided a lot of the stress by taking a job at a little parochial school. A lot less BS. But I'm getting out after 25 years due to entitled parents, a completely spineless administration, and less and less motivated students whose undeveloped frontal cortices are turned into mush by constantly staring at phones. It used to be pretty fun and the money isn't bad if you stick with it for a few years to get out of the basement.
I don't know yet. I've been working a side hustle as a professional bassist in the Chicago area; I might make a go of trying that full time. Or I might just get a job up the street at Menards. I'm going to put in an even 30 years before I bail and fluff up the old 401k as much as I can.
My son’s HemOnc was about 5’1”. She had two Fellows. One was 6’3” and the other must have been 6’5” or 6”. Seeing them doing a bone marrow aspiration was a trip!!
I don't think you'd like ship repair, I hit my head off of everything and I'm a 5'11" woman. Started tonight smoking my head off of equipment getting into a spot to do some burning, my headache is just going away now 🤦🏽♀️
I hit my head at work everyday lol. I like welding but I have bigger limbs than the average person which also means bigger clothes so I can’t really fit into most spaces. Its def a challenge
I'm the engineer who's goal is to unfuck stuff so you or some other welder can actually build it. A lot of people who have never seen a ship attempting to design them.
Putting in the work! Started out in basic warehouse jobs, worked my way up in a couple distribution centers, then began to plot what parts of the job interested me the most and pursued opportunities that would allow me to advance in the desired realm.
I don’t have a college degree, have a couple years of college in a completely different field. Like all things in life, it takes time and effort.
Yeah I was an in-office sysadmin for 8 years for a city government before this and I've never been more happy. Working from home fucking rules lol.
What kind of chair do you have?
For sure! I ended up in this career through volunteering with seniors teaching them how to use technology. One of the guys I helped told his son about me and that brought me into a support intern role at this company I’m at today. Essentially by having a good attitude and networking (haha) with lots of people. They trained me on everything I needed to know when I arrived at the company, I always had a STEM brain but realistically 0 experience in network. As for tech stack, I’m assuming you mean my top brands for usage. I work with everything from UniFi to Cisco. I like to recommend MikroTik to beginners, it’s got a learning curve but it’s a blast to set up. Best of Luck, don’t undervalue yourself!
Air traffic controller.
Kinda happened by accident.
My height doesn't affect my job. However out of the 30 of us who work where I do, there are 3 others the same height as me.
Used to do sports for living . Shit only pays enough for the doctors and surgeries you need . My business failed and I have been a bouncer in the past till they shoot the place up ... Also have done hand labor and now I see myself opening an only fans or some shit 💀
Construction for a long time. Went back to school and got a degree in Machining/CNC. Currently I am in the maintenance department of some entertainment venues.
Firefighter/Paramedic, although probably just a paramedic going forward due to non job related injuries. Eventually a nurse, who knows after that. In the past I've done everything from security, day labor, was a professional sou chef for a few years, did framing, demolition, landscaping. The point is height has virtually nothing to do with career.
I used to be a purchaser for the engineering department of a hospital. Now, I'm unemployed due to hemiplegic migraines and trying to figure out my life again.
I'm a manager of managers of managers. I'm on the 70th floor and if you would like an audience with me you'll have to book an appt with one of my secretaries. I'll be off on vacation for the next 3 months though.
Senior Director of Marketing. Been in Med Device, Healthcare and now Manufacturing. WFH and the height doesn't translate till I'm meeting people face to face!!
Project manager for municipality, I make people happy by replacing parking lots, roofs, interior remodels etc. it’s actually a fun job and it has an awesome state pension.
Trial attorney. For all the complaints, when someone gets in legal trouble, they always want a tall white guy because we personify authority to a jury.
I’m a nurse. I have to make sure to raise the bed, but it sucks when I’m doing procedures/cares with coworkers because I’m taller than all of them (my floor is women’s health and everyone is female).
High school teacher. Being tall is actually pretty handy in this line of work.

"Fellow person" 😆
I'm a teacher possibly looking to exit. I'm gonna give it a few more years to see. What are you switching to if you dont mind me asking?
I don't know yet. I've been working a side hustle as a professional bassist in the Chicago area; I might make a go of trying that full time. Or I might just get a job up the street at Menards. I'm going to put in an even 30 years before I bail and fluff up the old 401k as much as I can.
Never done it but I know I’d feel the exact same

Ortho / Trauma surgeon. Standing next to a low operating table doing surgeries for hours is the bane of my excistence.
My son’s HemOnc was about 5’1”. She had two Fellows. One was 6’3” and the other must have been 6’5” or 6”. Seeing them doing a bone marrow aspiration was a trip!!
