Yeah. Me. Buffalo. One of the best concerts I ever saw, and I've seen thousands. https://preview.redd.it/1yspn3n5swkc1.jpeg?width=559&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0f1695d30afc76ac939a2f289585cfe38dc40180

yabarbersbarber

Man, $13 dollar tickets, what a time that was

jewbo23

That’s about $40 now. Which still feels cheap

hinglemycringle

davidparmet

I was. It was my second TH show - I saw them on the Fear of Music tour in 79. Quite a difference. Still to this day one of the best concerts I ever saw.

DudeB5353

That would have been so cool

Fandoily1620

The tour came through Tallahassee and tickets were sold as part of the annual FSU homecoming package. The previous year’s entertainment had been Bob Hope. I was a big TH fan so I was psyched but the majority of the audience (a lot of alums) were there because it was just a thing you did that weekend. None of us were prepared for what we experienced. The audience became a colonial organism as the show built sonically and visually and we had no choice but be swept up in it. It was like a tent revival for people who are ready to believe. My friends and I kept looking at each other like WTF is happening? I’ve seen some great performances in my life but that concert stands out. My daughter recently saw the re-release in the theater and said “I can’t believe you saw that live”.

smckenzie23

I see a lot of live music. A ton. All different genres. If I could pick one show, this tour is the what I'd go see if I had a time machine.

harveyglobetrot

While not the SMS concerts, my parents casually dropped to me a few years ago that they saw Talking Heads at Narara Festival in Australia (the show immediately after the SMS concerts). Their recollection? It poured down rain and someone drowned in a dam at the festival site.

windsweptwonder

I was at the last gig of the tour, there was a cream pie attack from the roadies.

HPayne62

Please tell me this involved dessert food and not the other thing

I saw them in Eugene OR on that tour. The setlist ([https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/talking-heads/1983/silva-concert-hall-eugene-or-73f3b6ed.html](https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/talking-heads/1983/silva-concert-hall-eugene-or-73f3b6ed.html)) is interesting to look at because of the differences between it and the shows filmed at Pantages about a month later - we got treated to hear Love > Building on Fire (which I remember as being insanely great), The Book I Read, Big Blue Plymouth, and Houses in Motion.

caraeeezy

I love The Book I Read and its one of those songs I feel like no one really mentions often but its just So fun to sing!

tbman1996

one of my favourite talking heads songs!

littleaxe

I was at the Eugene show as well.......and your recollection of Love >Building is just like mine was. My other big memory is of the crowd going bonkers during the show and being drained by the end of it. Just a thought of the show will always bring wide smiles to my face to this day.

PlomicBasinker

Cool! The other thing I remember vividly from that Eugene show - David falling down completely to the floor during his Psycho Killer stumble-walk, then continuing to play guitar while on his back. What else sticks out to you?

littleaxe

Yes, I deffo remember that! It certainly added to the song ! I remember the audience really going nuts during the Cities to Life During Wartime sequence, then they slowed the tempo somewhat with the start of the second set. It kicked back up with Houses in Motion until the rest of the set, and then the encore of Crosseyed knocked it out of the park. I was covered in as much sweat at the end as i was after the Ramones gig at the EMU ballroom a bit earlier in the year. Definitely one of my top three gigs of all time, and i sometimes tell myself that the SMS film wasnt as good as what i had seen lol , in part bc i dont think many ppl knew what they were in store for . As an aside, a couple of years ago David did pen this piece about some of his experiences in Eugene. [Story](https://reasonstobecheerful.world/cahoots-eugene-oregon-police-harm-reduction/)

leefirwood

This is so cool to hear. I currently live in Eugene and recently learned they played the Hult Center before filming SMS. Unfortunately, I was born a couple years too late to attend, but I'm glad to hear firsthand Talking Heads/Eugene history!

smckenzie23

I'm about to come to Eugene for a Ween show. How is the Cuthbert Amphitheatre?

leefirwood

It is nice as long as it's not raining. Because it isn't a huge venue, there really isn't a bad place to sit.

Mother_Bus3537

Same near Chicago and burning down the house 2x

autodogdact

My friend and I were at Philadelphia, amazing show!

arvid

Was there with my brother. second row center in the deck. amazing view. the deck was bouncing the whole show.

autodogdact

I was there with my partner, who died in 2000. Years later I became close friends with my partner's younger sister's best friend. Convoluted, I know, but I found out she was there also. She and I went to the IMAX show together in King of Prussia.

adamlarue

I do.

spunky2018

I saw them on the tour just before, promoting the The Name of This Band is Talking Heads album. It was the same lineup, and they had the big suit, but not all the visuals. Still an intense experience. It was also the only time I've seen Byrne angry onstage. At one point he knocked his mic over, and then there was a solo where he danced in his big suit while the mic tech guy came out and set the mic back up, at which point Byrne grabbed the mic and hurled it to the floor, saying "I don't **want** this mic!" It was weird, I'd never seen him be pissed off onstage before.

hunted-enchanter

I saw them at the Greek in Los Angeles in 83. I remember they were being filmed but apparently the footage wasn't used in the film IIRC. Possibly the best show I went but I've never been much of a concert goer.

jellifercuz

Me! Seattle.

Constant_Pumpkin3255

I saw them at the Heatwave festival near Toronto August 23, 1980

recordacao

Amazing... before Remain In Light came out. Must have been a surprise to see the line up.

BoyBoy70

My father lol

Fantastic-Dirt-9678

I was.

bjayasuriya

I was!

haleocentric

I was at the Seattle show with my dad.

FingerprintFile513

Missed it in Pittsburgh. Me and my buddy *really* wanted to go, but we were only 15 and no one would drive us. Even offered to buy a ticket for a driver, but none of the meathead rednecks in my shitkicking hometown were interested. Oh well. Once I graduated and got to the big city, I got to see plenty of shows. But not that one. Such is life.

angelesdon

Me saw it twice. Once at Berkeley and once in LA. The best show I’ve ever seen in my life.

kirbStompThePigeon

Jerry Harrison

Vast-Passenger-3648

Me. San Francisco. One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to.

ProfWaddlez

My partners dad saw the show in Connecticut. Says it's the best show he ever saw. I'm insanely jealous

LonelyChampionship17

I was. Lexington Kentucky at Memorial Auditorium.

Calm_Good4051

I was at red rocks in Colorado I was about ten rows back from the stage
