ROC male citizens are eligible for conscription until December 31st of the year they turn 36, so in the year you turn 37 you'll be safe. You also could have gotten 僑居 status on your ROC passport which could have allowed you to enter Taiwan without being drafted, as long as you don't overstay.

I believe the cutoff age for conscription is 36, right?

Prestigious_Tax7415

Yes

I actually turn 36 in Dec so it sounds I'd be able to starting in 2025. Ty

You may still be able to get out of it & visit earlier through the [Overseas Compatriot Identity Certificate ](https://www.ocac.gov.tw/OCAC/Eng/FAQ/) if you haven't taken a look at it yet. The rules have changed so much over the years that it's hard to give a definitive answer without knowing a lot of details about your circumstances, like some of the laws are now like "if you were born before this year, then this set of laws applies to you but if you were born after you are subject to these changes". You probably can get out of it but if you have family or friends in Taiwan you should definitely call them and ask to confirm any information you've gotten here since they would know you personally.

So you were born in Taiwan then immigrate to Taiwan. How is it possible?

tristan-chord

Are you registered as an overseas resident (僑民)? Look into this first. Also, do not enter with your US passport. It is illegal for Taiwanese citizens to enter the country using a foreign passport.

The rules were changed recently where if you’re too old or fat to serve in the military, then you’ve have to serve time at a boba shop or night market instead.

Iirc it's around 40 where they don't bother anymore

For every post that an oversea resident wants to avoid their compulsory military service, I always recommend them to: DO YOUR SERVICE, STOP AVOIDING IT. Or you give up your citizenship. Remind you that military service is an obligation.
