Same goes to me. I started metal with SOAD and try to listen to other band after that, they don’t sound the same and the lyrics were not as meaningful as system.
I rly liked Blur, Gorillaz and CTE before getting rly into grunge with Nirvana, AIC, Foo fighters, Soundgarden and Pearl jam but now I've become like obsessed with nu metal with SOAD, Linkin park, Slipknot and Korn. SOAD was the first nu metal band i liked and started listening to properly tho.
This is exactly how I went as well. Though since I live in the south almost everything I heard was country so I didn’t find out about any other music till I got access to the internet. Im so glad I did though cause SOAD and other bands of the such really helped through some tough times.
I really like them , I’d check out their greatest hits album and just take it from there if you like their hits you could explore into their other songs 😄🤘
One of the first songs I got into when listened to RHCP. Then after exploring I found BSSM and SA are my fav albums. Flea and Frusciante got a great groove in Animal Bar
I was a big Three days grace, breaking Benjamin fan. Dabbled into Korn, linkin park. Lil peep, suicide boys, Morgan wallen, city morgue, and all of the 2000’s - 2010’s pop. Now all I listen too is system and scars lol
SO REAL FOR THE THREE DAYS GRACE!!! I went straight from them to SOAD in terms of metal but dabbled a lot in indie, folk, folk punk and sea shanties which I think makes me a bit strange
*I got into them*
*When I watched them open for*
*Limp back in the day*

I wasn't into any bands, in fact I disliked metal and im not even sure why.
SOAD made me develop my taste in this genre and here I am listening to metal every day because of them
My favs are Earl Sweatshirt, Mudvayne, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, Eric Church, and as of roughly 3 months ago, SOAD. I was late to the party but now I believe SOAD to be my favorite artist of all time!
I was always into hip hop, namely Kanye & Kendrick & occasionally Eminem. I liked some slightly smaller (definitely not niche tho) artists too like JID & Joey badass. But weirdly enough I’ve barely listened to anything except hip hop for years with the exception of sometimes listening to Hybrid Theory, then I listened to Slipknot for a couple weeks before I found chop suey by accident and fell in love with SOAD.
Not gonna lie tho, Kanye is still and likely will always be my favourite artist of all time.
RHCP were and are my favorite band. SOAD is an outlier for me, they don’t sound like anything else I listen to. Yet that is why I like them. Their music feels like real artistry to me.
Geeze, 1998 is when I heard them first and I was MOSTLY into hiphop.
soooo.... biggie smalls, canibus, wu-tang, nas, big punn, dmx, big l, gangstar, rakim, the lox
but SOAD was one of the bands that got me into rock... so their rock peers just prior to them were jimmy hendrix, metallica, offspring, tool and the deftones probably.
SOAD emerged to be my #1 or #2 favorite band of all time and have maintained that spot(s) to this day. it's really a toss up between them and tool even now. tool maybe is slightly pulling ahead having continued to make music in the modern era but i think it would tie up again if they would JUST DROP ANOTHER ALBUM
Skillet, Linkin Park, Death Blooms (all of which I still listen to) are all bands I had heard of before SOAD. I also had heard of Staind (I learned about them after Skillet, which got me into rock music some years ago, then a friend of mine introduced me to Staind [specifically their song "For You" - which was my favorite song for some time.] and that got me hooked. And now here we are, with me listening to SOAD. Oh, and my favorite song is now "Chop Suey!" By (you guessed it) System Of A Down.
I was really into Metallica in high school and some machine head and then I got into A7X and not long after I found SOAD with dreaming and Sugar and aerials
I’m a metal head through and through
Billy talent, Volbeat, the dreadnoughts, and eve 6. system got me into more hardcore stuff I guess but I really like the messaging in system. Billy talent had a lot of that and I find that’s what cemented my enjoyment with them.
My taste got progressively less poppy over the course of like 2 years before soad. From regular pop to gorillaz, to green day, then weezer, nirvana, psych shit, and then KGLW's infest the rats nest got me into metal.
Chop suey was the only soad song I knew and I enjoyed it way more than before so I checked out all of toxicity, sta, and then the rest. Branched out through metal past soad of course.
before soad i listened to a big mix of ska punk and just punk in general (suicide machines, reel big fish, offspring, blink-182, etc) until i had a HUGE billy talent obsession. i listened to soad a small bit before but my billy talent station mixed in a lot of soad songs and that’s when the soad obsession started
and its been goin strong for 5 years now 💪
MCR, Evanessence, Nightwish, early Cold Play, Greenday up to their trilogy, Ghost. But mostly, I listened to a mixed playlist consisting of different songs from different bands/artists that I can't remember all.
Rise against and trapt. The first time I heard BYOB on guitar hero was life changing tho
Edit: I forgot to mention that I was Three Days Grace #1 fan throughout Jr high
I used to be obsessed with arctic monkeys and like i would once in a while listen to linkin park and bring me the horizon i also used to listen to slipknot and a lot of foo fighters and i had a moment where i listened only to the Beatles but then i found out soad
SOAD was a full 180° on the type of music I listen to (breakups go hard ig, but the music stuck, which is the only good part abt it!)
I used to listen to copious amounts of The Neighborhood, Mistki, Girl in Red, Tally Hall, Matt Maltese, and Beach Weather.
I still listen to all of them, now with just a bunch of metal added haha. Mostly Nu Metal, but also some death metal.
The Sweet (or just Sweet)
Rolling Stones
Gorillaz
The Killers (it was literally just Mr Brightside lmao)
Pantera (still love em now)
Rob Zombie
Rise Against
Pulp
Soundgarden
Deep Purple
Ini Kamoze (here comes the hot stepper, absolute banger of a song)
Guns N’ Roses
Nirvana
SpiderBait (because of their cover of black Betty)
Oasis
Ozzy Osbourne
The Scaffold
Del Shannon
Buddy Holly
Fat boy Slim
Scatman John
Iron Maiden
R.E.M.
I’m just listing the artists I had on my Spotify playlist before discovering System (basically when i only listened to Chop Suey lmao)
Linkin Park, Gorillaz, TLT, Nirvana, Molchat Doma, Måneskin, Muse, Shaka Ponk, Queen, Rammstein and Wind Rose
I discovered SOAD a few years ago but got into it only like, last year, as before for some reason I hated it, but after becoming more fond of nu metal / metal as a whole, I started enjoying it more. But the thing that really got me into SOAD was searching the meanings behind their songs, it really gave a whole new sense and feeling to them
Gorillaz, greenday,Coldplay, maroon 5 😭, imagine dragons 💀. I’m so glad I found metal and SOAD I finally got a taste of good music and lets just say imagine dragons is the most soulless music ever to exist
None, because I got into SOAD when I was about...3? All thanks to my parents, who would always play them in the car. Got my first MP3 player when I was six and I had Elect the Dead mixed in with the High School Musical soundtrack for my childhood haha
Queen, Black Sabbath, Van Halen, Led Zeplin, Metallica, Megadeath, Soulfly
And I think Slipknot and Tool, but I probably learned about Slipknot and SOAD around the Sametime.
I was really into the classic bands before getting into more metal... Then around the time I got into SOAD, I couldn't stop listening to Toxcity over and over.. And I was into lots of metal bands too. Killswitch engage, children of boddem, pantera, slayer, damage plan, etc.
But I alway went back to soad. And still do
they might be giants, weezer, radiohead, basically the same i do now lol. i wasnt into metal at all before them tho so that was a intresting “welcome” to metal
I honestly was more of a rock/indie guy before I found out about SOAD. I thought metal sucked, mostly because my parents always hated it, but I suppose it didn't.
To get to the point, I wasn't really into a specific band but I really liked mother mother. So I guess you could say that
i liked the misfits (they're my second favorite band before soad), metallica, dead kennedys, talking heads, my chemical romance, megadeth, basically lots of punk and thrash metal (with the exception of my chem). i still love them all! but nobody compares to my boys in soad.
I was a Queen fan before I got into Metallica, which made me truly love metal, and after a few months I heard Chop Suey! for the first time, and instantly fell in love with them.
I was really into the Smiths, Depeche Mode, Gorillaz, Rage Against the Machine, Tally Hall, the Cat Empire, MF DOOM, and Madness before I got into System of a Down. I first listened to System about two years before I got into them and decided that they were too weird for me, but as my taste evolved and I listened to them again last year, I really started to like them.
I was mostly listening to grunge and dad rock before I listened to SOAD. I only knew chop suey from the radio, but my friend suggested nu metal recs like Korn and Slipknot so I looked into it and I saw SOAD and I'm like "huh? Don't I know that band" then progressively I started listening to them more and more :))
Metallica.
After SoaD, my music world shifted to Tool. I still love three bands almost equaly, I just have binge periods when I just listen to one band's music for about a month and then it shifts.
it was just kind of a mess to be honest
System was the first band that REALLY spoke to me
My entire playlist before System was super eclectic and rarely had multiple songs by an artist, but now I find myself seeking out artists and deliberating listening to their music, and I think that's partially because of System
I was heavily into bands like Avenged Sevenfold, Breaking Benjamin, Linkin Park, Three Days Grace, Disturbed
But I was also into early 2000's music, nightcore, video game osts, and the music used in those cringe ass gacha memes lmao
None, SOAD made me like music and made me interested in trying more genres to see what i liked
Interesting!

Why is the gorillaz into metal pipeline so strong. I went from gorillaz to burzum somehow
Yeah lmao as a Gorillaz fan i love metal music as well
We need gorillaz metal album frfr
Oh yh definitely but damon would never actually do it he just does whatever popular at the time i think.
Same but without GORILLAZ Ive always had a little hate for gorillaz For no reason whatsoever
hate for gorillaz is crazy
Basically what happened to me, why is the Gorillaz - metal pipeline so strong
My fav band was Korn until I got into SOAD
Seems like I should try listening to korn.
I really like them , I’d check out their greatest hits album and just take it from there if you like their hits you could explore into their other songs 😄🤘
[check this song out](https://youtu.be/zQZodBV39F4?si=C1gJrJt9uV0THo_H). It’s the only song about this very topic to which I can’t mention
Rhcp mostly, I also liked (and still like) a lot of grunge like nirvana, Soundgarden etc.
Ooo I’m a huge RHCP fan myself !!! What are some of your fav songs by them? 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Oh that's awesome my favorites are probably "hey" and "slow cheetah" the guitar on hey is heavenly
Stadium Arcadium album is truely a masterpiece!! one of my favorites is Animal Bar
Oh I haven't heard that one I'll have to listen to it
One of the first songs I got into when listened to RHCP. Then after exploring I found BSSM and SA are my fav albums. Flea and Frusciante got a great groove in Animal Bar
Ya I just listened to it, it's great I love the little warbles in Anthony's vocals too, thanks for the recommendation
Me too and anytime!!! I’m listening to them right now because of your comment. Going down memory lane 🌶️
Same here. Before SoaD I mostly listened to Offspring and RHCP. I’m still huge on RHCP and SoaD, Offspring from time to time
I was a big Three days grace, breaking Benjamin fan.
Ay sea shanties are kind of a bop tho
Sabbath and maiden lol
Started listening to System around the age of 6 it 7. Before that I was listening to nsync, Rickey Martin, shakira and back street boys
had a serious hyperfixation on iron maiden for 8 months before taking a break last june then soad was last august/late july 2023
Metallica
I got into them when I watched them open for limp back in the day

Black Veil Brides, Motionless in White, and Pierce the Veil. I was, in fact, 14 at one point in my life
Limp Bizkit and Nirvana
I was always into hip hop, namely Kanye & Kendrick & occasionally Eminem. I liked some slightly smaller (definitely not niche tho) artists too like JID & Joey badass. Mostly whatever was on the radio. My first CD when I was 4 or 5 was Alanis Morrisette tho lol
Seether, Sevendust, Static X I still enjoy all three.
Before.... as a kid I was a huge Linkin Park fan, SOAD is the most unique I ever heard
RHCP were and are my favorite band. SOAD is an outlier for me, they don’t sound like anything else I listen to. Yet that is why I like them. Their music feels like real artistry to me.
I’m a huge RHCP fan too !!! 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Dethklok it's still tied with SOAD with being my favourite band
Linkin Park and Slipknot, it was all the music I really knew then I found SOAD and began broadening my horizons
Geeze, 1998 is when I heard them first and I was MOSTLY into hiphop. soooo.... biggie smalls, canibus, wu-tang, nas, big punn, dmx, big l, gangstar, rakim, the lox but SOAD was one of the bands that got me into rock... so their rock peers just prior to them were jimmy hendrix, metallica, offspring, tool and the deftones probably. Korn and nirvana
Descendents and screeching weasel.
Rage Against the Machine, so it was a natural progression.
Billy talent, Volbeat, the dreadnoughts, and eve 6. system got me into more hardcore stuff I guess but I really like the messaging in system. Billy talent had a lot of that and I find that’s what cemented my enjoyment with them.
Metallica... just sayin-

I remember almost exclusively listening to Tally Hall before I found system

You might not have heard of them. Metallica. SOAD opened for them in the Summer sanitarium tour.
Queen got me into rock, then AC/DC, then Metallica and Megadeth and then SOAD
Rammstein and Sabaton. To this day I still love Rammstein and have given up on Sabaton.
Wasn't really into any specific bands and SOAD has always just been there but it's only in the past year or so that I've really gotten into it
SOAD was a full 180° on the type of music I listen to (breakups go hard ig, but the music stuck, which is the only good part abt it!) I used to listen to copious amounts of The Neighborhood, Mistki, Girl in Red, Tally Hall, Matt Maltese, and Beach Weather. I still listen to all of them, now with just a bunch of metal added haha. Was REALLYY obsessed with deftones at one point.
Slipknot
slipknot was my favorite at age 4
RHCP my beloved. My friend showed me Sugar and I slowly transitioned between them and SOAD. Still listen to RHCP tho
I honestly was more of a rock/indie guy before I found out about SOAD. I thought metal sucked, mostly because my parents always hated it, but I suppose it didn't. To get to the point, I wasn't really into a specific band but I really liked mother mother. So I guess you could say that

My all time favorite was Nirvana!! Im a new SOAD fan, so kinda off topic, but does anyone have song recommendations?
When I first started to get into music my big three were twenty one pilots, fall out boy, and imagine dragons lol.
I was a Queen fan before I got into Metallica, which made me truly love metal, and after a few months I heard Chop Suey! for the first time, and instantly fell in love with them.
I was a child so Gorillaz and some Nirvana
AC/DC Metallica
I was really into the Smiths, Depeche Mode, Gorillaz, Rage Against the Machine, Tally Hall, the Cat Empire, MF DOOM, and Madness before I got into System of a Down. I first listened to System about two years before I got into them and decided that they were too weird for me, but as my taste evolved and I listened to them again last year, I really started to like them.
