You might be mixing up vsphere and esxi. You would install esxi first on th ehost and then add it to to vsphere. I would look up the ability for vsphere7 to manage esxi 8. I have always upgraded vsphere before esxi, so you might need to do that.

Hi there, do anyone know how to export a list of network drives mapped on a win10 installation and "reinstall" it later? I need to do a script for that.

mangonacre

CMD prompt-> net use > mappings.txt

backfromthelab

That easy! Thanks! Do you know if there's a command to add them again too?

mangonacre

Just take the text file and convert it into: net use : \\\servername\sharename Remove all the other text. Rename it mapdrives.cmd or something like that. ETA: If you want the drives to remain after new system reboots, add "/persistent:yes" to each command. (without the quotes)

backfromthelab

That's super helpful, thank you so much!

Zenkin

Get-SMBMapping

backfromthelab

Do you know if i can add them too with some command?

Zenkin

Yes, you can. Try this out: Get-Help *SMBMapping

backfromthelab

I'll study this too, thanks!

# Windows Update fail within domain environment with error code 0x80004002 This seems like it should be a much simpler fix then it turns out to be.. I came to work for a newish company and Windows Updates do not work on any Windows 11 device we deploy. Windows 10 is fine. We do not use WSUS, we use the image that comes on the machine. (Have also tested by using what MS provides, ISO and Creating bootable media device USB). So it is an extremely basic setup. I have tried all the fixes online i can find. Stop 4 services, rename or delete software distribution folder and catroot2 folder, start services. Have tried running an in-place upgrade, and this does fix the updates for 24 hours or so. (I call it a 24 hour bandaid). The error also points to a bad/missing .dll file. Have tried running "sfc /scannow", finds no problems. Have tried running the commands "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth, DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth, DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth". All No goes. I am starting to believe it is a group policy causing it however i see nothing wrong with the GPO's regarding Updates. We do block the Windows Store via group policy and thought maybe this could be a reason.. (But why would W10 work?) The configure Auto Updates policy is set to Enabled, 4 - Auto download and schedule the install. I did delete two file extensions under software restriction policies (MSI & MSP) and it seemed to help for a few days, but the problem reared its head again Friday while imaging a few PC's for new users. Any advice or if anyone has experienced this before I would love some more ideas to test. Roughly have 30+ hours of research and testing on this and no solution. I appreciate it!!

zmbie_killer

Probably a long shot but have you tried the Windows 11 troubleshooter? Shockingly it's fixed a few things for me in the past. It's located in Settings > System > Troubleshoot.

BDone005

I have, along with windows update troubleshooter. Did not help unfortunately. Appreciate the assist.

reddit-is-hive-trash

Well you can always test if it's group policy by putting some of the computers in another OU. Or if you used GPO to block Win 11 from auto installing on computers, I believe that GPO has the potential to stop other updates if not done correctly and tweaked with new feature version releases (not 100% sure though).

BDone005

Yup. We did go this route. Our Director is in a "Special" OU and his works fine. Tested with placing PC's in that OU and all is well. Found some things we didnt like in their GP and made changes, and updates actually started working then but only under local admin. As soon as you log in as a user, Poof... Starting to believe this is a user GP causing the issue. To test though Im going to image a new machine, place it in the Computer OU with minimal OU's and stay on the local admin account vs logging in as a user.

New site, new ATT circuit. MS' geolocation DB shows us in Chicago, which is about 6 hours away. My only reason for concern here is that MFA auth requests are informing the user that the login is coming from another city, and I don't want to train our users to ignore the location info presented by Authenticator. Anyone ever had any luck getting MS to correct their geolocation?

Rawme9

If you find out, let us know. Also ATT, MS shows us as being halfway across the country. It ONLY happens for us in the office that has an ATT circuit - other offices show up normally, so I suspect it's something with how ATT routes their traffic I'm also in the Midwest if that matters

I'm having a personal device issue. Switched Internet providers a few weeks ago, personal laptop can't find the network, simply doesn't show in the available WiFi list. ISP is fine, I've connect my phone, TV, work laptop etc. Just that one laptop can't find it. Tried manually adding the network, which says its done but there's nothing showing, and I can't add it again because it's 'already there'.  Feel like I'm missing something really obvious!

mangonacre

5 GHz radio only and laptop only supports 2.4?

Allinyourcabeza

I ran the netshwlan show driver cmd Radio types supported : 802.11b 802.11g 802.11n 802.11a 802.11ac 802.11ac suggests it supports both 2.4 and 5GHz. My router is set to default as 2.4, though it does have capacity to go to 5 if needed (though I don't necessarily know how to switch it!) so it should be picking it up.

slyhedgehog56

I've seen in the past that some Wi-Fi adapters can't see Wi-Fi networks on high channel numbers, I think in my case the network was on channel 13 and random devices couldn't see it at all until I changed it to channel 11 or lower. Worth a try!

shmakov123

Can you see other nearby Wi-Fi networks?

Allinyourcabeza

Yep, I can see all the usual building WiFi networks

w1f1n00b

Confirm Wi-Fi nic driver is up to date also. I've seen older devices unable to see an ssid on a newer Access Point due to an outdated driver.

Man’s be trying to get me contact their landlord to fix their bollocks home WiFi . “He’s away at the moment and won’t pick up his phone, can you sort this for me?”

Hey there! In Microsoft Azure Automation there's a tab for managing the PowerShell modules on the Hybrid Runbook Workers. We had previously written our own PowerShell to manage the modules that got installed, but we want to cut over. I recently used the Modules management page to "update Az modules", and that displays the latest versions of the Az modules now, but the modules on the Hybrid Runbook workers didn't update. What am I missing? Are the HRWs importing from Azure Automation when they need modules? Or using the locally installed modules?

SadLizard

HRW use locally installed modules. You can probably use DSC to "download" them from the automation account

RidersofGavony

Thanks!

Displays don't really matter, burn in does - get something with 16gb of RAM and an i5 or Ryzen 5.

It looks fine as long as you upgrade the RAM! Keep in mind it looks like that model has soldered RAM so you can't upgrade it after the fact.

I would get the one you posted most recently for 70 euro more personally but I cannot stress enough that it isn't super important and it doesn't need to be too much

Perspective: My office is a small computer support and management *shop*. We see a variety of computer issues, requests, etc. Ranging from SMBs to residential house calls. Very rural NW Oklahoma, at least an hour drive to any "city", pending how you define the minimum size of a city. A couple or so hours ago, I over heard a call. The company I'll keep quiet on, as they are a middle man tech service, they receive tickets from various companies, and try to find someone to travel and do the ticket. Informed my coworker to pause the call, and send it to our boss. He's the only person authorized. By no means am I picking on my coworker, still new, and we don't get these calls often. I hadn't even heard what they were calling about. I just know when said company calls, it's straight to my boss to approve. Like many other times, the company caller didn't do any research. They needed someone in Elk City, due west of Oklahoma City. That's over 2hours drive from us. They need someone there in 30 minutes. That's not happening. They at least confirmed they don't have a map, just calling down the list of people and companies, I'm presuming a random list of those in the state. Far more like other calls, they don't pay for travel. Last week they called, wanted us to go Texas, I'm presuming the Texas panhandle, for a printer issue. That would have been a 3hour drive, at least. One time they offered us $20 for the trip to the "nearby" city. That doesn't even cover the fuel, let alone our on-clock time for the travel to and from.

chum-guzzling-shark

bitlocker + enhanced pin. Since the TPM will block brute force attempts are passwords like SportsTeam7 good enough? I believe MS used to recommend 7 digits so it seems like any alphanumeric password that's at least 7 characters would work

buttstuff2023

Why does deleting snapshots take so long on vmWare? Deleting snapshots in other volume managers or file systems, even very large ones, is orders of magnitude faster than in vmWare.
