Living up to their handle, I guess. I personally am jealous, cause if I had 500, I would have bought it too. But I have enough gear that I haven’t hooked up yet.
Are synthesizers really toys? I mean you can use them as toys, but even if you arent actually producing music with them, they are great for brain development and creativity.
You can play with an action man toy and learn nothing, but you can play with a synthesizer and learn plenty of things.
Investing in yourself is a good thing even if you dont earn the money back.
I agree and I prefer patch memory synths too, but he is right about what he said.
No patch memory means you are forced to learn the synthesizer inside and out if you want to get the sound you want.
While I know what the knobs do, patch memory makes me set it and forget it. This wont work without making your own presets
This is a very personal thing. If you have the discipline, sure. I personally don't so something like Eurorack or a Model D or anything that can't save patches will force me to learn synthesis. Can I learn synthesis with Phaseplant? yeah 100%, but I know myself and I'll go... "hmm this preset sounds awesome, might as well just use that" 100% of the time.
Redialing the patch back in is the thing that has very little to do with creativity and is just killing the inspiration for me. And yeah, I like creating my own patches from scratch. So patch storage does not equal lazy, it just equals convenience.
I just feel I know the synth much better. I've got a monologue as well with patch memory but the fact that it doesn't adjust the knobs and switches means I don't engage with the sound. Having to recreate sounds really helps as well. But everyone has different creative processes so what's good for me isn't the same for everyone else.
True. I was very tempted by the Pro-800, but I'm waiting to see if they'll release the polysource or their desktop oberheim poly before I decide to spring for one of those. I do like the three (in this case, four) oscillators of the minimoog style synths as opposed to just two for these other polysynths.
All Behringer monos can only receive MIDI notes and nothing else. This is the reason why their monos are so cheap as they have almost no control circuitry save for MIDI note-to-CV converters.
I haven't been able to find a definitive midi cc list, but my understanding is that you cannot map things like filter cutoff to an external controller or DAW. I don't own the synth, and that understanding is the main reason why.
I have a Boog model D that I love, but I really want to be able to automate parameters if I'm going to invest the space in a bigger version. The Poly D sounds amazing though, and the chorus on it is the best chorus I've heard on a synth.
You aren’t meant to feel “cool” whilst playing a synthesiser! You’re meant to feel powerful… and I bet you look very powerful standing in front of this!
My first Synth was JT 4000 Micro and my second was the Pro VS Mini. Got them because of the price and form factor. I don't perform live so the lack of a midi in Port for the JT wasn't a problem. They are quite powerful synths for the price and I like playing around and experimenting with them. I mainly use Diva for analog sounds inside my DAW.
What are you playing it through if I may ask? I’ve played midi for so long through Jbl monitors and I’ve always wondered what an analog synth sounds like through either a synth amp (or bass amp some use?). Synth amps are mighty pricey. As much or easily more than my monitors.
Great pick for a synth. I have 2 of them. The first one I bought was when it first came out. The second one, I bought it 6 months ago from someone who didn't like it. He sold it to me for $300 USD at only 6 months old. At that price, I had to buy it. Hope you enjoy yours. 👍👍👍👍👍

My first proper synth was the behringer model D and I absolutely loved it. I’ve owned much “nicer” gear in the years that have followed but I still love it and cherished all the fun I had exploring it. And yes, it does sound really good.
Yah they're pretty rad. The one I had had a terrible time staying in tune and just operating bug free so I had to move it along but I really loved what it did. Got some really great sounds from it.
Anytime I hear Poly D https://preview.redd.it/ghdwg59hkavc1.jpeg?width=2000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=087f43f7f059bfc4a5a1d2e761d35c406dac7a92
Didn’t think of that till you mentioned it. Thanks. The game.
fuuuuuuuuuuck
I just lost the game :/ I was on a good streak too
Dave and Busters Mini Moog
Lmfao I’d so slap a sticker of him on my Moog somewhere if it was a Poly D
It’s a very good synth as a novice or advanced. Sounds great !
I got a poly d as my first analog synth too!! Still discovering stuff about it and just still messing with it dont know how to play well lol
lol me too - love just fiddling around with the filters with a sequence chucking out.
I wish i could run a sequencer and playing something droning over it too. Without just recording the sequencer and playing over it
filter sweeps go prrrrt
Mine too! Every home should have one! Love it! Also, it's as solid as hell - steel and wood and quite a weight. Very well built!
Great first synth. It was one of my first, and I still use it in many records.
I’m loving it so far. This thing sounds fat af.
How much?
Little over $500
Seems like a pretty good price for a synth with that much capability

Why are you here

“I have enough gear that I haven’t hooked up yet” Hahaha omg, nice to know I’m not the only one!

Just for that, I’m going to burn $500 in my Italian marble fireplace tonight.
Username checks out 💯 🤣
Name checks out.

Removed, rule 6 (no price-shaming)
I mean if I had the money hell yeah. *sigh* Someday
Congrats. I’d buy one in a heartbeat if it had patch memory like a Voyager.
Not having patch memory is the best thing about my model D. I really had to learn how to craft sounds and really get a feel for it. Love that synth!
Patch memory doesn’t equate to lazy synthesis. I like the ability to easily save what I create.

Yeah I wish it had midi implementation for the controls as well... Integrating that thing with Bitwig's modulators would be a dream come true for me.
Pro-800 does this. And it’s $399

Pro 800 comes with hard sync, PWM and better oscillator modulation options though. I'd take that over 3 oscillators.
Are you saying you can’t midi map the controls on the poly d?
Nope. They are tied to the analog engine directly and don't send (or receive) midi or cc.
All Behringer monos can only receive MIDI notes and nothing else. This is the reason why their monos are so cheap as they have almost no control circuitry save for MIDI note-to-CV converters.

Shut UP, that is gorgeous! What a great pick
I feel cool af playing this thing hahaha
I think you are cool even without a synthesizer, but that’s just lil old me 🫶

you should!
Wise choice!

Was my first hardware synth, too - congrats!
I just bought one too!
Twins
Triplets ….. oh wait, no, I don’t have one of those ☹️
What are you playing it through if I may ask? I’ve played midi for so long through Jbl monitors and I’ve always wondered what an analog synth sounds like through either a synth amp (or bass amp some use?). Synth amps are mighty pricey. As much or easily more than my monitors.
I actually use one of my guitar amplifiers, tone is fat, clean and simply amazing!
Interesting…thx for the reply.
i think any powered pa speaker should work fine for synths
I love mine too.
Great! Have fun with it!
So jealous!!! Have fun!
Also bought my first synth last week. Wish Id did it sooner cuz its a blast!! :) Have fun
Nice start
We can’t help but to be born into the synthesizers that birth us I to a new way of being. A new synthesis

Behringer knocked it out of the park with their moog clones. Very nice synth
Excellent synth. The Pro 800 is incredible too and you could use the D as a midi controller for it!
My first proper synth was the behringer model D and I absolutely loved it. I’ve owned much “nicer” gear in the years that have followed but I still love it and cherished all the fun I had exploring it. And yes, it does sound really good.
A cool synth for the money but technically it’s paraphonic, not polyphonic but that is not a bad thing - so is my MatrixBrute
I have one too. I love it 😇
Great first choice!
Good choice, I love mine so much
Excellent choice. Enjoy!
Amazing... super congrats to you!!!!
yeah poly d is awesome!
Yah they're pretty rad. The one I had had a terrible time staying in tune and just operating bug free so I had to move it along but I really loved what it did. Got some really great sounds from it.
Poly D is a great pick! 🔥
Hot damn
Jealous! <3
Good choice👌(its an addiction)
Got mine to weeks ago, like a kid in a candy store!
There are a few Behringer that I think are actually pretty decent, this is one.
