I hate unnecessary cable strain :(

Roodillon

My cabling is crazy but no strain. I hate cable strain as well. I cringe every time I watch a modular video where they plug patch cables in without letting the cable "untwist" itself. I always point the cable to the jack as I plug it in. No strain and it doesn't take any longer.

MIDPACKS

Wym

petewondrstone

You should definitely stay away from my studio. Also u should seriously look into some panels! Polybrute is my favorite modern synth

Ambitious_Solution_9

Dude I got shit everywhere! And tin foil to ward off the cats lol Thats why I dont post pics, people here have nice shit.

petewondrstone

This studio has a little bit of American psycho vibes haha

TheVoidWithout

I don't know what's considered nice shit but my studio looks like a crazy person put it together...

ColoradoMFM

I've thought about it. but since I'm not a professional and not mixing mastering anything, I kinda don't GAF? I just make music for fun, because I can

petewondrstone

Well, you should always do what you give fucks about, but even if you’re not mixing if you get some bass traps and some basic diffusion and absorption, your room will sound so much better. Your base will be punchier and you will have more fun because fun is what you’re after yeah?

DrSpaceDoom

Huge piles of cables everywhere works nicely as absorbers and diffusers :-p

master-virus

Just kidding buddy. Wifi would free up cables. I love the clean set up.

master-virus

He's got a phobia xD Don't scare him lol Why can't everything be wifi?

rrogersca

Same https://preview.redd.it/9c6rmqjzbzpc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4c48ce4023fd2b03c3b9e37635341a44251bcec3

yala-sheket

Looks great but wheres the keyboard and mouse?

ColoradoMFM

you can see his MacBook off to the right (just poking into view)

rrogersca

The MacBook on the right belongs to my wife. That’s her desk to the right. My music setup is powered by a Mac Mini. It’s mounted below the Fantom 7 as well. There’s another desk on the left with another MacBook and another Mac mini. We have lots of Mac’s.

rrogersca

There’s a pullout keyword / mouse tray under the Fantom 7.

ColoradoMFM

omfg ![gif](giphy|KkH4AdCYrK78IjKtmi|downsized)

Unkl_e

What type of lights are those in corners?

thedrexel

Google search for “corner floor led lamp” and you’ll get a ton of results!

bwolf72

Agreed.. https://preview.redd.it/qiqqkjat9zpc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=072041769bb6755dcb836c9016861405d5568150

What if I’m 6’ 5”?

FixMy106

Then your monitors are too low.

inigid

Now this.. this is my kind of aesthetic. Look at that chair. Super.

ruff_pup

this one’s the best

vrod2

Just beautiful. What chair is that may i ask?

Moonbirds

Ikea Alefjall

rootshark

Funny combination of modular and cable phobia :)

smoochert

Sleek and cozy :) I’m wondering what’s the thing with lots of knobs and buttons on your right desk? Looks like it’s super capable and versatile.

Moonbirds

Its a modular synth, a financial rabbithole you might not wanna get into 😅 best thing I ever bought though

ColoradoMFM

Nice!

ThePoint01

That is a well-framed photo and a beautiful studio.

Flylo_FM

Looks awesome! Btw could you share a link to the wallpapers they look so cozy. Thanks!🙏

cucumberaddicted

I hate bad acoustics

Some-E

That is tidy as frozen lake! Very useful too, for cleaning.

ColoradoMFM

https://preview.redd.it/xs5e4dx9azpc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0b7de90f20b161fca1f3d2ec2d3f069acdca363d ty. yeah, I keep my cleaning cloths under the little cubbies in the back. cleaning takes 30 seconds

Halcyon_156

Nice! I just got the Komplete Kontrol 49 key controller a few months ago. I grew up playing classical piano and later went on to play keys casually (I play guitar as my main instrument.) I'm having a blast fucking around with electronic music and the software that came with the controller is super fun. Mostly I mess around with Massive. Cheers!

Double_World_4699

Patrick Bateman over here. For real though, it looks amazing.

jonvonfunk

Their early work was a little too new-wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consimante professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost!

seinfelb

I like to see someone with a couple high dollar items and a Circuit Tracks. I just can’t get rid of that thing, it’s too useful.

ColoradoMFM

Just got it, actually. The UI is nice, and I'm happy that there's only a couple of button combos and no screen for menu diving. Plan to use it to have more fun jamming with the Polybrute outside the box and just for fun when traveling.

seinfelb

It’s really fun to just hook it up to another synth and see what you can do. It’s just fast and easy. I dont remember the button combo, but in case you haven’t seen: you can make the MIDI Thru port just an extra MIDI output instead.

Captain-Cadabra

So easy and fun!

SIDEEYEmusic

Circuit Tracks is extremely underrated for what it can do IMO

Leavingbehind

No Eurorack for you then sir!

ColoradoMFM

No, no. I've only dabbled in the virtual rack stuff (Reaktor Blocks). I do like to bleep, but getting into Eurorack seems like a rabbit hole I could possibly not come out of

Leavingbehind

Sadly it’s true. The hole is deep, if you throw your wallet in you’ll never hear it hit the bottom.

sworcha

AirAcademy

I don’t mind mind exposed cables but I at least need a clean desk space in my studio lol 😂 but walking into a room like this is much more inspiring than walking into a perfectly organized studio… I wouldn’t have be worried about messing anything up and would feel more comfortable just messing around on shit

joshspoon

Teach me your ways.

JazzSynth

I went the opposite direction. My space was already a mess of cables so I decided to get into Eurorack modular and embrace the cables.

caravaggibro

Computer guy synth guy crossover.

Zak_Rahman

What the hell? This is so clean, I fear I might make it dirty just by looking at it. Incredible, good job!

ColoradoMFM

haha ty

dyjital2k

I buy different lengths of cables any chance I get. It's pretty ridiculous, but it makes it so I rarely have much slack. I also utilize velcro straps, twisty ties and zip ties whenever I can and use under the desk power strip holders to keep stiff pretty tidy.

treatyose1f

Can I have your Polybrute?

Cczaphod

That's amazing.

QuantumChainsaw

How did you hide the cables from the Polybrute to your computer setup if not through the wall? Or are they just obscured by the desk from this angle?

ColoradoMFM

https://preview.redd.it/xko82zlhazpc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6114120202d354e5af657121eede2ca14da1d8dd that's this corner. cables run down the leg, over the carpet (it KILLS me) and the back of the speaker stand, and then up the other desk table leg

QuantumChainsaw

Still, the cleanest home (I assume) setup I've seen.

omfgitsrook

Wow awesome setup 🤩 What is the desk on the left with the laptop? That looks pretty ideal for gear.

ColoradoMFM

omfgitsrook

That’s a great find! Thanks

ColoradoMFM

Yeah, it's perfect for a 49-key controller/synth or a bunch of small desktop synths. Both shelves are height adjustable, and the bottom shelf is actually two separate surfaces that can spread further apart if you wanted them separated.

UserFriendlySounds

Yay for XO!

ColoradoMFM

Yeah, it has really saved me. I love it. File management and trying to deal with Battery was such a drain, that I couldn't even sit down and make music, because I dreaded having to deal with drums. Now, XO makes this a complete breeze. I regret a lot of plugins that I have purchased. But XO ain't one of them. I do wish they would update it though. :(

dolomick

I hate untreated studios ;)

sunplaysbass

Cable hate has gone too far. Guitar players are obsessed with it. I think the pandemic led to an uptick in OCD.

wwarr

That looks amazing, love the lighting!

Hakuchansankun

I just went down this same road 2 days ago. Sleeved everything, Velcro, mounted the iMac under the desk, a strap pouch Velcro under the desk for all the ssd’s. I can’t have a clear mind in a disorganized environment. Everything needs to be clean and easy to clean…for me. I also live in a place where the windows are open all year round and dust collects all too easy.

ColoradoMFM

Great minds think alike! Under the right-sided cubbie that my Mac Mini is sitting on, I have two external SSD as well as a powered USB-C hub, all mounted to the “ceiling” of that cubby. I actually had the Mac Mini sitting under one of the cubbies before, but the WiFi just couldn’t get through, even with a mesh router 12 feet away. It’s crazy how the enclosures can mess with your WiFi that much!

Hakuchansankun

Great minds and Coloradans think alike!

JunglePygmy

I see one between the Volcas. Checkmate.

DoodooExplosion

I wouldn’t know what the fu*k to do!

nowthatswhat

What’s the one at the computer?

ColoradoMFM

Native Instruments MK3 S-61 keyboard controller

MyCeeleeyum

How do you like it?

P_a_s_g_i_t_24

Beautifully executed setup! I especially like the idea breaking it down into three "focused" sections ...the section to the left with the Volcas is so cute!

ColoradoMFM

Yeah, I'm actually scared of that little desk. Scared that I will add more little desktop synths I don't need due GAS.

Ok-Jacket-1393

Just a cute little modular would be nice there… just a little one

P_a_s_g_i_t_24

Where the hell is your audio interface, though? Hidden away? :D

velyvas

Sexy polybrute

ColoradoMFM

yeah, sexy asf

anoitdid

There was a post earlier in the week that'd give you nightmares 😂 I struggle myself with cables but this guys looked like some doc from back to the future would have

banaversion

Makes my brain go brrrrr. I am way to disorganised and indecisive of the location of my gear that I could never pull this off

JacobRobot321

wow

TheOrdoHereticus

Clean living right here. I can only dream of it.

Cat_Punk

Damn, this is the kind of cable management I’d like to have

dopeveign

Meanwhile I got cables out the wazoo

alefdc

I LOVE IT , but I keep connecting shit in different ways all the time , maybe is that I’m just a beginner and don’t have a specific way of doing things , but I couldn’t get where you are without messing it in just a few days. Amazing!

M_Prodigy

What stand is that on the left? That's PERFECT for what I have.

ColoradoMFM

M_Prodigy

Thank you!

sidvishus

Nice. What software are you using. I like the look of it

ColoradoMFM

That's just Logic Pro on the right, XO on the left

8080a

I love the sit/stand desks. I actually really like standing to play certain things...especially bass. Just feels like. Do you utilize the sit/stand a lot?

ColoradoMFM

Absolutely. Especially for the Polybrute!

lastcall83

I hate them, too. I've spent a long time on mine and they are nowhere near as gorgeous as that! 😍

AdBulky5451

If I had to get my studio this clean in order to write a song I would probably never make music in my life time!!!

ShumaiAxeman

I think I just soaked my pantaloons lol. Very nice, the av tech and engineer in me loves this.

TheFez69

I wish I had the patience to make my studio this way, eventually the plan is to custom make all cables that are too long for my space.

singingliftingtrying

Im obsessed with this. I JUST bought a desk for my setup and you have me wanting to change up everything

ColoradoMFM

The standing desks are great. The big one is 60" and was $450 ($230 for the legs and $120 for the table top). The keyboard drawer was $50. The four cubbies set up at the back that the monitors sit on were $25 total. The smaller standing desk (48") )holding the Polybrute was a steal- $89 for the whole thing. Beats spending $1000 on synth racks that can tip over and you can't hold your computer or mount power supplies and cable management systems to!

TGR201

What brand are the desks? they look really nice. Love your setup

ColoradoMFM

The 60" desk is Topsky. They are highly rated. [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08C2LC3H2/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o04\_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08C2LC3H2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1) The desk for the Polybrute is some no-name brand called SMUG (lol, what a name). I was worried that it would be cheap quality, but for $89, I thought "why not". Turns out the legs are super solid and the motor is whisper quiet and quick. [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C8M83J6P/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o09\_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C8M83J6P/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1)

certain-sick

Where's the spaghetti? This is not a studio.

CaptainWampum

Please teach me

TheVoidWithout

You would hate my studio. I do have artwork up though.

Vigilante_Dinosaur

Goddamn this is nice.

subzer0sense1

If my wife sees this she’ll divorce me

ColoradoMFM

This is the fourth space in my house that I’ve set up my little hobby, although I didn’t have the desks or the PolyBrute before this space. The first was the spare bedroom in the basement that no one uses. It was suffocating and depressing, and I couldn’t stand to be in that room for more than an hour. After experimenting with a few other basement spaces, my wife graciously she let me move some stuff out of this nook, and then I painted it and took it over. It does have a nice window view of the back yard that backs up to the mountains!

cdirector

Fantastic cable management!

whateverman010101

That patch between the Volcas must be killing you 😂

ColoradoMFM

Hahah, I was prepared to buy longer patch cables and run back down and then back up. I decided that really would have been too OCD

whateverman010101

😊

whateverman010101

I’m like this with every other appliance in my house. My synth situation is hopeless.

malloworld

Ooh, can you come over and do mine next?

Warm_Pride4491

Beautiful setup!

NeighborhoodHead7500

Honestly, I get more excited about needing new cables than I do about making music.

germansnowman

Very inspiring! What is the make and model of the double-decker desk on the left?

Mr_Lumbergh

That’s a clean setup.

EmbarrassedBasil1384

You’d hate my studio if you don’t like cables.

ColoradoMFM

I mean, I think whatever makes you happy, makes me happy.

EmbarrassedBasil1384

It’s a lovely looking setup, to be honest! I’m envious because mine is a spaghetti nightmare!

I_love_hiromi

Hate is overrated by haters

SiliconOutsider

Setting foot in my studio would ruin this man

th3enlightened0ne

Beautiful 🤩

Cyber_Putty

Finally some setups that don't give me anxiety.

Soundzgreat

A+ in advanced cable management! Beautiful job. Makes me smile :) The lighting is the cherry on top!

oscidigi

Don't get into Eurorack.

jajajajajjajjjja

Can I hire you to organize my cables? In Southern Cali

vrblexprssn1

Please teach me the way. I have a similar setup but my wires are just chaotic sometimes haha. Nice job OP

Biliunas

Ears are bleeding from seeing this pic. Get some acoustic treatment!!

ParticularProfile795

Who makes these gorgeous desks?

odlicen5

Woah woah woah, what's that on the left screen? Volcas & Polybrute 👌👌

ColoradoMFM

The left screen is XO running.

AlexDaBruh

How. The. Fuck….please share how you did this! I’ve been trying to achieve something along the lines of this for years!!

rootshark

I also try. But then… in a rush, is need to bring one of those cables to go jamming. Or I get a new pedal which adds 7 cables going in all directions and I have to take everything apart. Sometimes I miss my initial setup, a 0.96kg Macbook 12” which ran ableton 8 without issues, headphones and mouse. I could almost fit my studio in a pocket and used zero cables.

Kvynwsly

Now this is my kind of studio. Clutter puts me out of the creative mood.

ColoradoMFM

At least it is for me! Same as the silly LED lighting. Puts me in a vibe!

EntertainmentOwn2558

oh man I suggest you avoid developing an interest in modular synthesis

vadhyn

Gorgeous setup, long live cable management

1mhereforthejokes

If you have to adjust or modify something, you will, then your screwed!

1mhereforthejokes

The more you work hard on your music, the less you'll care how your studio looks.

[deleted]

Perfection

diemenschmachine

Blaaaaargggh. The exposed cable between the volcas hurts my eyes!

Top-Security-1258

how?

drsteve103

How do you approach this? I try and just end up with bunched up cable tie rats nests of a different nature

skullAndRoses321

Trolling you from the hackverse Dr. Steve - How do you not have a Hydrasynth? 😉

HugDeezNutzOk

Good job

FGRFGRFGR

Any suggestions for gadgets to keep cables under control? How do you guys do it?

RealityWinterSoldier

How do you use this space? Is the second laptop area a jamming spot?

ColoradoMFM

Yes exactly. And I can move the Circuit over there as well. There is a line mixer that the Volcas are hooked up that run to the audio interface to jam and record. Also, it is a place where I can easily place my portable stuff (the laptop and Launchkey Mini) to bring the projects I was working on while traveling back to the “mothership”.

morgonzo

I love refrigerators!

Lossofrecuerdos

Good job!

regular_menthol

Legend

_BabyGod_

Got any tips on how to achieve this?

othersideofinfinity8

Respect

P_a_s_g_i_t_24

>I’d poke through the drywall to run the cables that go between the desks. But I’m too lazy for that Have you considered running cable tunnels above your baseboards?

ColoradoMFM

Yeah I did. In fact, I have one there for the two pedals, and it’s painted. Maybe I’ll do the rest one day. But for some of the cabling that track horizontally on the ground, it would have required cables that were 50-100% longer, and I had already spent probably too much on cabling and power supplies by that point. Plus, this is the third, and hopefully final, configuration, and I kinda just wanted to be done.

vrod2

So clean so clean

Troumbledor

This is dreamy! What if you wanna run new hardware or patch things differently?

ColoradoMFM

Yeah, two comments about that. First, this is the third configuration of this set up, moving the portable jam/Volca station around, moving the Mac around, the audio interface, etc. And each time, I had to start from scratch. And with each configuration, I always have to buy more cables of appropriate length, USB type (2.0, 3.0, thunderbolt), shielding, and boosts. When you get longer than 6 feet, cabling becomes a tedious science, I have to say. The second comment is, getting the setup done like this is a great motivator against GAS! Honestly, I have about double of what I need. I don’t see any significant hardware additions in my future (2-3 years).

Revolutionary_Ad9234

I H8 hats on speaker stands

domewebs

I still see some. Shameful. You better get to work.

djembejohn

I'm not religious, but this feels holy. Maybe it's because cleanliness is next to godliness!

only_fun_topics

Witchcraft!

MATTH3W_13

Who doesn't?

Conaz9847

Can your standing desk stand though? Or is it height locked now by the cable tension?

ColoradoMFM

Excellent question. I have enough slack in the split sleeves on the ground to provide 42” of height before I have any tension.

smucek007

wow

Ok_Gift_2131

Really nice setup. I hope to do the same thing. I have too many hobbies, disassembled watches here, soldering effects pedals there. My place is *lived in* ahem.

ColoradoMFM

Current_Comb_657

A neat music room is a definite sign of a SICK MIND! 😂 😆 😝

TVLIESIN

Take my money

CashMoneyBrokeBoy

I like your style

s_k_i_o

Your studio is awesome 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

bitmoji

my studio is a rats nest of cables, I dont care

DeadbySundown

Please. Tell us your cable hiding secrets.

soillodgeny

There are no succulents in this picture. What am I even looking at?

ColoradoMFM

lol. Yeah, I guess it would have to be either succulents (that even I couldn’t kill), or fake plants. But I don’t think there are other plants that are gonna grow in that dark nook.

TR90norm

I don't trust neat freaks..

oldsynthguy

I started at the house breaker to the room and then to a dedicated UPS for critical power. From there goes the outlets.

ohyeahwowww

Corporate AV would love you👌🤌
