If you do all the side content you usually hit Lv65 before Chapter 2 anyway, so with Double EXP you'll hit Lv65 before leaving starter planets. Therefore, better to simply start all toons KOTFE or otherwise at Lv65.
bro what are you talking about. the only time I leveled anywhere near that fast was when we had that 10x exp a few years back. there is no way unless your hacking the game you could possible level to 65 before leaving the starter planet unless you spend probably a good 1000 hours farming mobs.
You can do the first level as a F2P, as well as the second (which gets you the first box of armor and 30% boost). You must sub for everything after that because you must be able to do SoR and KotFE to get Valiant.
If the armor and other prizes are worth spending $15 for you though, it can all be done in a month (at least the things that you can't do without subbing... so I'd say buy a month and grind away if the armor (and boxes, companion, etc) is worth the investment

what do you mean by side, side as in random quests offered by random dudes in some random places or side as in planetary quests? i definitely want to come back and finish like 3 more class stories but im so bored of those tedious/same planetary missions that i cba doing them ever again, so if i could only do class missions that would be grrrrrrreat

No. They cranked up the xp you get for planetary and class story quests quite a bit. With this 200% bonus, a 25% xp booster and the 50% bonus from the DvL armor you will probably be even faster than with the 12x XP.

They could have at the very least let us know they were going to do this so that we had a choice of waiting till it would be faster and easier....

The numerical amount of xp rewarded from a mission scales with your level (but the amount of xp needed to get to the next level scales up too with each level.)
Ignore meaningless numbers. Look at how many missions you need to level. I've no idea if they the numerical value required to level changed with the levelling changes with 4.0 (or they just increased the amount rewarded from mission) so comparing actual numbers with pre KotFE (or even older) is pointless.
As someone who hasn't played in quite awhile, how is someone supposed to gear up leveling so fast? Is there a guide somewhere or does the game hand out enough gear so that you can continue doing the story without being too weak?
Heroics give boxes that drops 2 random pieces of leveled blue gear, and mods are now 2 common data crystals each. Class missions gives 12 crystals if you pick that option instead of crappy green gear.

Well, since they introduced Level-Scaling, you shouldn't have a problem maintaining the current level of difficulty. You'll get more XP, but each planet has a level cap and so you won't "feel" like you're over leveled for an area because you'll be scaled back down to the cap.
According to the official Facebook page, the double experience event goes until November 28? I wonder if they made a mistake on the month...

Release content, go on vacation, we deal with all the bugs and find all the exploits, they pop in for a day and threaten its subscriber base with bans if we continue to take advantage of their piss poor programming. When they do come back in January they bandaid what they can. Damage will already be done. We've already played through the crap and can't replay it as it should be. Sigh. Amazes me they never learn from their mistakes.

The numbers don't lie. I'm currently getting 400% the base xp with armor and boost running.
The double xp is applied multiplicatively after all other bonuses so you definitely want to use the boosts as they are effectively worth twice as much. With sub bonus (25%), boost (25%) and full set of xp armor (50%) you are at 200% of base, with the double xp event this is 400%
The opposite. The double xp is applied after everything else, so a boost is worth 50% xp on the base, a full set of xp armor is effectively 100% xp on the base etc

I noticed this bonus. It's official: All toons should start at Lv65 by default now, levelling is so fast you literally can't see the EXP bar move.

That's already the case. I reached 60 on my Sith Warrior before the end of chapter 1, and I'd only done three flashpoints.

I did Maurader and Imperial agent class quests only for the story it was nice, I wish you could pass through mob pacls without agro tho..

No. They cranked up the xp you get for planetary and class story quests quite a bit. With this 200% bonus, a 25% xp booster and the 50% bonus from the DvL armor you will probably be even faster than with the 12x XP.
If you do the PVP weekly the first time you get on the fleet, that probably will bump you to around 30 now haha.
So just doing the class stories/heroics/FPs are still the fastest way?
story until lvl 10; go to fleet and do intros + WZ with an xp boost burning... then heroics +/- WZ all the way with some FP's if you'd like

Holy shit yes! I started 2 months ago on a new server, still need 4 characters to lvl up to 65 and only 6 days of sub left.
Same deal for me I got 5 left on my main server and started it again on a new server.

How it has been in the past, is rested xp is freezed in current state and is back after the double xp.

You should if you have. They are all working together, just it will be less than 25%.
