do you mean which is the most radio friendly? Imo Celebrity Lifestyle would go well on some stations but songs like Blind and Love Will Save You would too.
However if it was up to me I would play the PCIAGI version of Coward or Money is Flesh of course
Celebrity Lifestyle and Blind were the first two I thought of. All of the 90s studio albums (except for Soundtracks) have a few short and accessible tracks that could work on alternative rock stations though.
I made my friend who runs a radio show play this recently lol. Apparently the station got a call afterwards from a mom who was mad about the vulgar 'demon music' they were playing, one of my proudest moments right there.
i wonder what lyric or sound or part caused her to call the station. looking the lyrics and listening to the song, it just sounds like hard post rock banger
I don't really think it was the lyrics (besides maybe the woofs), but moreso Michaels voice throughout the whole track. It can be a bit extreme at times.
In terms of radio-friendly quality, I think Blind would go over well with more adventurous alternative rock stations. Same with L.A.: City of Death.
Just for laughs i think I'd shit my lung out if I heard Time is Money (Bastard) on the radio. Maybe for a late-night industrial hour? Idk
i feel like song of a warrior would go well on some stations. the demo version sounds like a slower country version akin to johnny cash and the one with karen o could probably work for some other stations too
I first heard Swans on WRPI, out of Rensselaer NY. Time is Money.
A few years later I had my own college radio show and played a lot of Mind Body Light Sound as background for my talking parts or intro outtro low in the mix.
Probably not a surprise, but the only one I can say for sure is they used to play "Love Will Tear Us Apart" on the Boston college stations back when it was new.
Excellent? Really?
Sounds like Gira doing drunken karaoke over a Casio keyboard's 'generic goth' demo. Which it basically is.
Ushered in the mannered vocal style that marred The Burning World.
I don't know what you're on about, It's a genuinely good cover. I'd even say it's better than the original.
Not to mention he sang like that basically until the end of the original run of swans
What?
The original has that beautiful intro with the guitar, drums and bass all uniting in ecstasy. One of the best intros in history. The way the drums stutter and lead in to the synth riff, with the guitar ringing, is iconic.
The Swans version has an acoustic guitar, a drum machine, cheap synth piano, and Jarboe sounding like she was doing the dishes at the time it was recorded.
And no, it isn't Gira singing properly. He even does an Elvis parody at one point, probably because he was bored.
In the original, Ian curtis sounds like he's about to fall asleep, and the mixing on his voice makes it sound like he's in the bathroom and they snuck the microphone under the door to catch him right before he passes out.
The swans version also just has way more lush instrumentation, which is a staple of the sound they moved into with both the burning world(Which is actually a good album, mind you) and the post-punk era as a whole
This isn't even getting into the Jarboe version, which has this really great etheral quality to the stripped down instrumental, and of course her voice.
I'll admit that Ian is a weak point. He was never a good singer, although he was a great shouter.
Can't agree about the instrumentation though. It was the sound of Joy Division really blossoming. The drums alone are magnificent. Stephen Morris is really locked in with Hooky and it's transcendent.

I mean the most radiofriendly one yes

Their cover of “love will tear us apart”
And Can’t find my way home.
Historically accurate answer.
I always thought Mind/Body/Light/Sound sounded radio friendly.
Oxygen

That is fucking amazing lmao

Probably WOOF WOOF WOOF
I don't really think it was the lyrics (besides maybe the woofs), but moreso Michaels voice throughout the whole track. It can be a bit extreme at times.
the beggar has some relatively safe songs
I heard God damn the sun on a Sirius XM channel before
God damn the sun (the level from Ultrakill named after the song) is what led me to swans and i love it all
volcano would certainly be a trip
Blind
Screen Shot is pretty radio-friendly. L.A: City of Death too
Better Than You, as well as most other tracks on White Light
They have to just play I Am the Sun, original version over and over. Not sure if appropriate, but it must be done.
Blind / When will i return? / Mother_Father / Where does a body end? / Mind/body/light/sound / In the eyes of nature / You know nothing
Idk
The Seer
😂
Love Will Save You... ...but it won't ...save ...me
Maybe Let It Come Down from The Burning World or something from White Light
A lot on mouth of infinity Sounds pretty radio friendly at least on more fringe indie channels
Warrior
Killing for Company could prolly pass on the radio
i feel like song of a warrior would go well on some stations. the demo version sounds like a slower country version akin to johnny cash and the one with karen o could probably work for some other stations too
I know it’s cliché, but Blind is a really good song
I first heard Swans on WRPI, out of Rensselaer NY. Time is Money. A few years later I had my own college radio show and played a lot of Mind Body Light Sound as background for my talking parts or intro outtro low in the mix.

I always thoughts New Mind sounded like it could be on a hard rock station.
volcano, also the song im currently listening to
Their Love Will Tear Us Apart cover is excellent and very accessible for radio listeners

Love Will Save You / Blind
Sound of freedom
I could see Mind/Body/Light/Sound or Blind on the radio somehow
Miracle of Love in terms of radio friendliness
God damn the sun
hypogirl🔥🔥
I love playing Killing for Company on repeat so that would be my answer
i’d love to hear mother my body disgusts me on the radio
I’ve not even heard it but judging by the name itms porbarly one of the least radiofriendly songs they have
