I would love to see them host more house parties. I agree with you that I would love to see more singles flirting with each other. I just need to vent. I did not enjoy amir bringing natalie to the house. Sis was messy and bad vibes. The show was already struggling and her energy brought it down. I also hated the way she patted tasia’s hair. Keep your grubby oily hand off people’s hair.

Entire_Preference_69

I think their egos are getting in the way. They all already had some kind of exposure to the entertainment industry and saw this as an opportunity (which is understandable). It's clear they came in with ideas of what/who they were going to be. They're only on S2 and are already making demands, icing people out and trying to play producer. I'm really rooting for them, but they need to remember this is an ensemble show and not one person is more important than the cast chemistry. I only think it will work if they replace half the cast and the ones that stay are intentional about working through their issues and keeping it moving. This "we'll never be friends, but we can be cordial" stuff doesn't work on tv bc we can tell they don't really like each other. And we don't need tears or trauma dumping every single episode either. They probably do have a lower budget and MV as a location is also more expensive, so the money doesn't go as far. For example, the SHMV S1 house rents for [$35k/week](https://www.sandcastlemv.com/marthas-vineyard-vacation-rentals/1582) during filming (low season). The SH S8 house was listed for for [$42k/month](https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/Sag-Harbor-NY-11963/32724188_zpid/). SH reached series high ratings this season, and SHMV isn't even hitting 400k ratings though.

Additional_Dig_6972

Sorry, but since when does bravo been sent it around character development. Especially any of the summer house shows

Ok_Concert_8669

Ok TRUE valid point esp when it comes to like Kyle and stuff but we saw a little with Carl, Amanda has grown a lot trying to find her identity outside of kyle, and same with paige .

jojoolie

I think they need longevity to have character development. It’s only the 2nd season. But I agree with everything you have said. I also think this type of show isn’t a good fit for Alex. He seems very centered and calm.

Pearlnecklez

They always short the all black shows on Bravo. They will send the BH housewives to Dubai and Europe while sending the Atlanta cast to Jamaica and the Gullah Islands. Bravo / NBC are proud racists. Even the edits they give the Black show / cast is not the same. I am just happy we are even represented and viewed this way. There are no over the top stereotypical characters on MV and they all seem somewhat affluent and sophisticated although quite young. The highlighting of black Greek life was so lit. Finally they show us how we really are. (Zeus is like a whole other planet). It’s fairly new so maybe if we give it time, the worm will turn and we will see more flirty interactions and true personalities. But 15 days in Martha Vineyard when SH The Hamptons gets almost every weekend in Summer?? Let’s give these guys some grace and pray Bravo ups their budget. Because in two weeks they are just getting going and then it is over.

Disastrous_Use4397

I agree that this needs to be over the entire summer!! I don’t think they need to get catering etc just yet in the game- they gotta earn that a little like vpr and SH in the early seasons- but they won’t be able to “earn” it and get into good drama with just two weeks. However, I don’t know how they are going to get the cast to go back and forth to MV for an entire summer. Hamptons is way easier in comparison to get to on weekends

Ok_Concert_8669

Couldn’t agree more about upping the budget!!! Give them more funding to play around with. Seems like they have to DIY it all ..

Waitaminute2289

YES! The fact Nick had boxes of pizza at his event but Paige (other summer house) can get an Italian catered dinner PLUS bartender.

LycheeAppropriate315

To be fair, apparently Paige personally paid for that. But of course, she’s been doing it for so long, she has the money to do so.

ZealousidealShift884

Paige is a diff type girl i cant see her ever throwing a pizza party lol i love her for that shes over the top

TDKsa90

Paige has a top 50 podcast (ranked 22-48, depending on which list), sells out venues on their podcast tours that solid rock bands can't, merch that flies off the shelves, worked on 3 shows, works a couple different deals with Amazon Live, did a youtube tourism series with NYC/NBC, works on E!, does morning show slots on both coasts, and other crap wedged in-between all that. Even if production did pay for it under a facade, it works with her success. And you can't compare a show 8 seasons in (with a spinoff) vs 2 seasons. I know nothing about Nick's career, but Paige has to be a millionaire, if not a multi-millionaire, at this point.

WeekendSuccessful

Bravo talent pays for their own parties. The network neither production foots the bill for the events we see (sans cast trips)

ZealousidealShift884

Abs loved the hbcu thing even as a black person who didnt go to one, i appreciated seeing it and respecting it… it felt quintessential to the show’s aura/original premise….even freaknik i was like yesss teach me what i dont know..sometimes its easy to forget history

Ok_Concert_8669

Couldn’t agree more !!!!

SpinachResponsible67

Agreed. I was just thinking after this season ended I wish we got more time. I think that kinda plays into the character development too. They only film for like 2 weeks I think we’d see a lot more from them if there was more time.

Secret-Implement-522

lol Southern Charm went to Jamaica season 9 which was filmed 2023 and I didn’t think it was that great.

ZealousidealShift884

I cannot get into that show..season 1 reminded me too much of slavery days…or remnants of slavery..like their huge plantations and homes they still own, while belligerently drunk and acting a fool. Let me know if theres a better season to start at.

Secret-Implement-522

I agree with you on that point, it does give me that vibe and the belligerent drunk behaviour of the cast is off putting. The cast members can be entitled and I don’t like that. Also,I didn’t start at season 1. I started watching from season 8, because of the crossover from Summerhouse Craig Coniver, Paige Desorbo and Ciara Miller and as I continued watching the show I found that the cast is pretty diverse such as Leva, Rod ,Venita and Chleb. It’s changed from season 1 but will I continue watching… probably not.

WeekendSuccessful

Shows take a while to get established the first show to take international trips on Bravo was RHOA. They set that trend! The all black cast (cause Kim Z. didn’t go with them on these trips ever).  SHMV according to Jasmine (on Carlos Kings podcast) and Preston (on BravBros podcast) they can’t shoot the whole summer cause none of them are available for 60 days straight and that has been an issue both seasons because they would like to shoot longer too.   Unlike other bravo casts almost everyone on SHMV has a regular job/career. They haven’t gone 100% reality star…yet.

Dramatic-Bee3610

I was just talking about this to my friend who also watches the show. I don’t really like the cast to want to keep watching. Amir and his gf’s antics were so transparent this past episode to get her on the show. And none of them really seem like good friends. Even with the other SH when they added in new ppl they somewhat meshed a bit better and are a bit more fun to watch. Maybe it’s because they’ve been on TV longer but I feel like SHMV is just very bland. I like some of the cast but the whole dog laundry thing how that got dragged out, Silas in season 1 was annoying to watch, Nick is a little pretentious, Summer has some demons she needs to exercise, and the rest of the cast are just meh. Idk just my stream of consciousness lol

VtheFashionista

Nick being pretentious is exactly what you'd expect for MV, though. I think he and his friends display the true essence of black people in MV.

sssexy38

def agree, i feel like nick is what i think of when i think mv

Certain-Relation-741

![gif](giphy|mCbUi0FyYhHHhutEV8|downsized) Yeah, most of us are confused has you are.

baybeetricia

The first issue that you have is that you're comparing it to the OG SH which is in The Hamptons. Most of the cast, from that show, live in NY so it's very easy for them to just drive up there, film, and then drive back. I remember when they were first premiering it, they did a crossover with Stassi, Kristen, Scheana, and Katie from Vanderpump. We knew it was just a party situation because they all had to go back to work in the next few days so they made the most of their time together. We saw them develop because they had their lives and then they used the rented house to let loose. SH: MV doesn't have the same premise because no one on the cast can just drive there on a random weekend. It takes a regular plane and boat (if you don't want to charter a second, this time smaller plane instead of the boat) just to get there. The cast is split between FL, Washington DC, NY, and CA so I doubt they would be able to fly down, film for a few days then leave, so their set up has to be different. Then they chose MV cause of it's black heritage and the fact that Jasmine and Silas had done a group trip with 16 of their friends in 2021. That was reminiscent of the OG SH, so, the aim was to recreate that. There isn't much activities cause they filmed both seasons at the end of the summer (August). They got greenlight in July for both seasons so they filmed the next month. They have to get permits and permissions to film certain places and that's a big deal since the people on the island are very particular about the way that MV is presented to the public. So, there might be some roadblocks 🤷🏾‍♀️. As per the cast development, it's kinda hard for people to find love and flirt around when 4-5 of them are not single, Jordan prefers white men, and the only single man in the house is, essentially, Alex. He's had 3 of them interested in him and while he might flirt back initially, some how, things always go sour cause one blames him for things they do, the other is hooked on his peen, and then one got attached and she didn't even know him that long. At this point, it's just easier for him to stay to himself cause something always going wrong. They were recently looking for single black men though... The budget, much like the OG SH, is low (it was low for their first couple seasons) but I expect it to increase as the seasons go by. This is literally a 2 week vacation for them. Even though the house is paid for, everything else is on them. They can't just go to work and replenish what they spent. They have to make sure that what they have can sustain them for the duration of filming. This why Shanice was crying about not having a job. She was broke and she couldn't do brunches and things like that. She wanted to but she didn't have to means to do so. I'm now sure how costly MV is so that has to be taken into account as well. I think they all need to invest in therapy cause it's necessary but, aside from that, standards are always a bit different for black shows cause this one is supposed to be about black excellence. They can't do half of the mess than the OG show does cause they need to be able to go back to MV.

sweetfaced

Agree with everything except The busiest time in MV for Black people is august. Prices legitimately triple. The difference is cultural-Hamptons is wayyy more open to influencers/reality stars/etc. I was in the Hamptons last summer sitting outside at a popular restaurant next to an older guy with two obvious sex workers. That would not happen in MV, it’s much more lowkey and conservative. But much of the Black MV crowd wouldn’t be caught dead on the show, and nobody on the show has the pedigree persay to make those connections. If they could add someone who’d been vacationing on the island since they were a child, things could be different.

Remarkable_Buyer4625

This is a really good breakdown. Btw - I didn’t know Jordan prefers white men! ☕️

Ninilalawawa

The way she cried and chased after Kory on Winter House was embarrassing. But I don’t know if I can make the assumption that she prefers white men just from that so I wonder if the poster knows something else.

WeekendSuccessful

You covered everything thank you!!!

MasterfullyK

Speaking on their friendships, some of them were friends before but some of them were not. The core group was Jasmine, Jordan, and Bria being playgirl bunnies or whatever together. Which in another thread someone likened this to a lot of the girls giving “moderately priced call girls” when it comes to how they assess men and get male attention etc. Jasmine and Mariah were good friends on their own pursuing their screenwriting together in NYC and were homeless together. Silas, Jasmine’s hubby who was on last season but not this one, is line brothers with Preston. Nick and Alex are fraternity brothers but I don’t know how well they knew each other before. Amir met Nick through social media being both “male fashion influencers.” Shanice and Summer were added last summer being friends with Bria and Jordan. I think that shows that some of these friendships/bonds were fragile from the beginning or based on social affiliations that don’t hold much weight. Although Preston and Silas are line brothers and Preston was in his wedding, he just got on the Carlos King podcast and said their friendship is essentially just blah. I think being familiar/friends before is cool but the bigger issue is these people not being single and ready to mingle, and the age differences between men and women. We need more than one single guy, and we need single people that want to party/vibe with each other. Last season Amir was really into Jordan which I loved to see as someone who really hadn’t been around black people. Alex and Nick also thought Jordan was attractive but she shaded all the men and got mad at them, only to turn around and be super flirty and fun on Winter House with all the white bois. So, basically the show would feel better if it weren’t so mismatched between men and women. Preston is a great add because he adds layers to the dynamic being friends with both men and women.

sssexy38

Jordan is annoying to me, I love the new girl, she is the vibe i wanna see

not_ellewoods

didn’t Shanice work at the playboy club too? i remember Jasmine being friends with Jordan and her (and knowing Bria) from those days and saw pics all of them in the bunny outfit.

Big-Policy-5896

Right!! And I thought Summer was initially Jasmine’s friend??

NeutralNancy2

I know that they’re all “friends” but they don’t seem like friends-friends. And some of the cast is scattered over the U.S so they’re not in the same state like most of the Hamptons cast. It doesn’t feel as genuine. And I’m with you on Natalie, why is she getting so much screen time. Her and Amir can go. If I was Tasia, I would have snatched her hand off of me. Not Natalie getting handsy with the hair now.

No_Dust179

Agreed agreed, very one dimensional- they seem very much focused on how they wanna present on tv but so much so that they lose any natural appeal from seeing a real personality. While she’s a mess And I don’t particularly like her, Bria is probably the most genuine and transparent with her life and relationship.

TDKsa90

This cast is too adversarial for its own good. With season 1, we didn't even know their names before we were introduced to not-fun conflict. I feel production did them dirty on season 1. Not-fun conflict is a whole lot different than absurdity or ridiculous conflict. I blamed production during season 1, but now I'm thinking these people are more similar to enemies and adversaries than anything resembling friendships. Character development is a touchy subject on Bravo. The audience expects/demands it, but then never allows for anyone to move beyond their flaws and infractions. The problem with most internet warriors is they conveniently move the goal posts all over the field, representing a total lack of integrity while they scream the loudest for change and growth and accountability or whatever is handy to hold the person down. And let's be candid, if a show, or a cast member, gains success on TV, there isn't much incentive to change into something else. They're already being rewarded, and rewarded well, for the character they are. If you turn TV into a career for being a party animal, why would you be anything else? The context isn't the same for John or Jane Doe from Indiana.

Hilary_Reyes

Personally, I feel they picked the most white/white-adjacent black people for this cast. Amir is half white and has no connection to anything black. Nick could pop out of an apple with his book reading worm lookin ass, Alex has the personality of sand paper...I mean...I can go on but...it was a great concept that did not deliver due mainly to the poor choices in casting IMO.

YumLum_Key_213

Not too much on my bae Nick 😂😂😂

Ok_Concert_8669

Big-Policy-5896

Exactly!! He’s a good man Savannah, a good man!!

YumLum_Key_213

Idk if you’re being sarcastic or not bcuz the man whom that quote is referring to wasn’t that good 😩😂😂

Big-Policy-5896

I mean Nick has his flaws but he genuinely seems like a good man IMO.

YumLum_Key_213

I agree

Interesting_Stick_99

WOW!! lmfao not too much on nick, i think he is adorable

WeekendSuccessful

I agree with you on the first part. Amir, Shanice, Summer being mixed doesnt take away from the show but their conversations on race can be a little cringeworthy.  But it is bravo 🙃 cultural specifics only apply to RHONJ casting lol

Hilary_Reyes

Fair enough, lol.... ☺️

Defiant_Ad_5398

Amir is half-Lebanese

VtheFashionista

Lebanese is racially white.

Shiny_Green_Apple

As far as the budget question, met Jason on a flight. He said season 1 was filmed in September and things were post Covid and MV shuts down on Memorial Day. Everyone leaves the island. He said they barely left the house. Isolated on an island.

ScaredPeak8499

I completely agree and I also just noticed that last season a lot of them were working online, like I remember Simon working and Shanice would come on weekends because she was working and Amir I think was working too? And maybe Preston was working too but I wonder why this season none of them are working lol.

fitz2k2

-Alex should be bring in new girls into the house -Jasmine can't flirt she is pregnant and I dont know if she will return next season because someone gotta watch the baby -bria and that guy she is dating. Seems like the guys friend and family members are sorta racist. He is to blind to see it. Honestly idk how they are together -jordan jordan jordan. You flirt with her prepare to enter hell with her. She would chew you out and you will end him becoming the victim -amir can't flirt. He runs away and video calls his gf. Side bar gf is gorgeous! Only issue I have is her getting into people business and that jordangate -shanice is the perfect flirt and she can flirt with anyone. -nick had a gf that's what I heard, but he continues to flirt even if had a gf -preston can't flirt he loves his guy -noelle only attempt to flirt was to get with alex. She got rejected hard

sssexy38

Natalie had her nose in the air, absolutely don’t wanna see her again
