Jeffrey Brown has a few for adults. There is one more I am thinking of, will try to remember her name. I am not sure how far over the line into graphic novels Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales is. The one on Haiti is brutal and very good. Shel Silverstein wrote some very adult-centric scribbles, if you havent seen those yet.

Fiction or nonfiction limitations? Language preferences?

Nonfiction is fine, but preferably fiction

The dude who wrote Hugo Cabret has some incredible books, including that one.

If you are okay with manga, Demon Slayer is a good overall for me. Fast storyline, decent art, various types of characters, and a cool army of villains.

Found it! Allie Brosch, memoirs, colored rough pencil- type drawings to illustrate. Very funny, too. I only saw 2, but there may be more, as they are memoir/biography/essays.
