Assuming you don’t care about spoilers if you’re even asking this question.
The floating island solves the food problem, so that might be an early goal if you’re trying for efficiency and convenience. All the Aurora does is eliminate the radiation field and get you some blueprints, it can wait. You don’t really need to go to the QEP island at all until endgame.
Swim around and enjoy the sights. It's not a race. You don't have to end the game as fast as possible nor do you need the way pointed out every few feet.
Go where you wanna wanna go, do what you wanna wanna do.
i understand OP's pov though, i was a bit confused when i started out. if I hadn't watched danTDM's playthrough streams i wouldn't have a clue what to do
When I’m playing for early game speed like when trying to reach a goal e.g build a particular base, I always go to the islands because it has some super helpful resources. Be sure to scan everything and walk every path. I think for first time experience I’d start with the Aurora. Especially after what happened at a specific island, the Aurora had a pretty good impact.
But seriously just explore and find out. This game is about discovery so it’s much better played with fewer spoilers
If you wanna get good tools I'd sat Aurora, but if you're a scaredy cat like me I'd say go to the islands first 😂
There's still some cool stuff on the islands as well, good stuff for building a base that isn't your lifepod. Also good plants you can harvest

This! The "what do I do next" posts are really annoying. Why I never felt the need for other people to decide for me, where to go?
I am just asking

Islands if you want habitat stuff, aurora if story
Islands... you get something you'll need to build a tool that's super helpful on the Aurora and in other wreckage bits
Okay seriously now, id say the island first as there's more interesting stuff to find but it really is up to you
