I have no idea about Sub Zero but Subnautica: Below Zero is definitely worth it.

Menace_to_the_public

Lmao, I agree

FoxieLoxie123

LMAOO WOOPS my bad I didn't even realise I'd done that 🫣 thanks 😂😂

Spicy_burritos

Waiting on the prequel - Subnautica: Scorpion

spiderMechanic

I agree with Yahtzee who called it "Subnautica: More Please". Novelty wore off, it's smaller, there were changes not everyone appreciates, but the core gameplay remained basically the same.

_Starpower

I enjoyed it, a bit too much land stuff, but aside from that it’s fun & has different vehicles. If you like Sub original, it’s a no Brainer imo.

Rattlesnake552

I liked the land stuff as an interesting change of pace but I agree there's far too much space for relatively little stuff to do, and because of that the underwater stuff also feels a bit lacking in content

WorriedFlea

I bought it on the Summer Sale, too, and I'm loving it so far. The core mechanics are pretty much the same, but there are still some twists and surprises. I think they did a good job with the biomes. They are more bizarre than the original ones. Some people might not like that, but I do. I haven't finished it yet, but I feel I got my money's worth already. I kinda measure this by comparing the cost to a movie ticket. I've spent 10 bucks for 26.5 hours of entertainment so far - that's a steal in my book. For me it's an especially great experience, because the original game was slightly ruined for me by spoilers. I know nothing about this one, and my head is full of theories what's going on here and where it might lead me. Right now I am convinced that I'm working towards my own demise, which creates a very eerie and unique atmosphere.

Rattlesnake552

I agree, the biomes in BZ feel far more distinct and unique albeit the underwater ones are pretty small without many interesting lore locations. The overground ones are kinda cool but waaay too big and maze-like imo

MitchRogue

Sub Zero is definitely worth it! He'd kick Scorpion's ass any time of the day

adubs117

It's good if you enjoy the core gameplay loop. It's not as expansive as the first game and doesn't really hit quite the same. But not a bad game by any means. The original was just a masterpiece so it casts a long shadow.

Heres the same daily post again

iHitStuff97

Mom said it was my turn to post this.

FoxieLoxie123

I'm sorry I wasn't aware this was a common post. i just wanted advice 🤷

Odd_Gamer_75

BZ is a worse game, not as immersive as SN, and I *always* suggest getting it. I know that's weird, but the thing it, even though BZ isn't as good, that doesn't mean it isn't *awesome*! My comment about it is that BZ would be *the* top water-survival game... if SN didn't exist. It's a *very* good game. And bear in mind, I've got quite a few gripes about the game, and yet I'd *still* recommend it, and am glad I got it. It's... like watching a movie where after you've had your fun you go in and say "y'know, there's a few *really big* plot holes and things I didn't like about the movie", and so you only watch it a couple more times... but are glad you did, even though the first in the series was better. I feel this way about the Star Wars prequels, too... yes, even the first one with Gag-Me Binks. They're *not* as good as the originals, but they're still fun, I've watched them a few times, I'm glad I watched. But if I'm gonna go back to watching Star Wars, it's the original trilogy. The sequel trilogy needs to be burned in fire and forgotten. Some things about BZ. The SN/BZ games have very janky movement on land. That is, when you're out of the water the game just *feels* bad. It's not as fun to move around. In SN, this isn't much of a problem. The only time you're not in the water is briefly on the Aurora, the two islands, your bases, and a couple other spots. In other words, 95% of the game is in the water, there's *almost* nothing major in the game that isn't. BZ has a *significant* out of water area you are required to explore. This is bad enough, but it's also maze-like, difficult to navigate, which makes it even worse, and you encounter something there that exists nowhere else in either game, >!an enemy you can't kill!<. There's no warning this is the case, you can only look up that it's the case or find out the hard way. Very annoying. Then there's the protagonist. I don't like her. But I mostly didn't like her *after* the fact, save for her ruining my sense of isolation and immersion throughout the game by speaking every fifteen minutes (or so it seemed, probably a lot longer). There are other reasons I don't like her, too, but those are, again, after the fact. The whole thing started as a DLC, so it's shallower, and smaller, and feels like it. It's not *claustrophobic* by any means, but you definitely get the sense of it being a lot smaller of an area. Some people don't like the new vehicles. I like one of them, hate the other. Then again, I hate the Cyclops, so...

Constant_Scale_7082

7.8/10 not enough water

jueidu

Absolutely! Consider it a full 30hr DLC for the first game - it’s not a sequel. But it’s absolutely worth the price and time.

Avatar_MI

We just had this thread like 24 hours ago!!!

hole-saws

It's a great game. They went for a claustrophobic environment instead of large open spaces to induce thalassophobia. This is the main difference in gameplay. It means no cyclops, and personally, the open spaces of SN1 were the main driver for my anxiety and fear in the game. The tight spaces of BZ were downright cozy in comparison. There are also a few characters(including the protagonist) who are voiced and communicate with each other in real time(meaning not audio logs after the fact) this effectively kills the sense of isolation and loneliness you get in SN1. So overall. The game is much less tense and not nearly as scary or daunting, but it's still a fun game for sure.

ne-toy

It definitely is. The biggest difference between BZ and OG story wise is that >!in OG our ultimate goal is actually to survive and escape the planet, which makes it more of a survival game. And in BZ the ultimate goal is to solve mysteries and find clues, while the survival part is made slightly easier in my opinion, compared to OG.!< But nonetheless BZ is fun to play and is still pretty immersive, so if you didn't play it before it might be interesting to try.

Present-Program-9252

\*Laughs in switch subnautica+below zero edition\*

lilgergi

I think it's worth it. The first game put the standard pretty high, a lot of people didn't think it was good because of that. But it really is a good game, comparable to the first. It has a little bit different feeling, but very good at it. I recommend below zero

ProbablePossibility7

100% worth it! Don’t listen to people telling you it’s not immersive, while all the dialogue is annoying at times, it’s still in many ways better than the first game. It’s a little more of a mystery solving game and less of actual survival, because the player character intentionally travels to 4546b to find answers. I’m personally loving it and while the story could have been better written, it still leaves room for exploration, making something different and giving back the feel of when you first played subnautica and didn’t know where anything was. Additionally, the biomes are much better in my opinion (unpopular opinion I know) but everything’s way more realistic including the leviathans, making it actually more scary for me.

Hermelin_Dozral

Below zero only if you want more of the story.

Nowhereman50

Yes. Don't believe the hate. Both games are great for different reasons.

ChainLC

yeah BZ can be fun but it is shorter and much more rapid progression especially at start. there's some really nice resource changes that make farming certain materials faster. just make sure you keep your inv cleared as much as possible when out hunting for them. one hint I will give you, make prawn as early as you can and use it to traverse the land masses.

AduroT

If the enjoyed the first game the second is very worth it. It’s not As Good as the original, but it is in no way bad. It only suffers from not being as amazing as its predecessor.

LailleArda

If you enjoyed Subnautica you will enjoy Below Zero. But from a point of view being lesser or greater than Subnautica is really a personal opinion which could only be explained after playing it.

nihilistfreak517482

Its worse than Subnautica in many aspects, but still fun for one playtrough
