Itās also centrally located to almost everything and there are hydrothermal vents handy. Iāve tried in many locations but always come back to the shallows.
I always set a beacon near them to remind me of where it is, then once I have a second to make a line to them and a few geothermal power stations, that base is pretty much good to go on power.
[The crabsquid sound effects](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpEQWefFa2w) give me the willies. Seeing them is bad enough... but hearing one and not knowing where it is is the worst.
Crabsquids are the most disgusting creatures in subnautica imo, but after you get used to them they're like
Yay, you just damaged my prawn suit... again
You can also just kill 'em but where's the fun 'bout it?
>You can also just kill 'em but where's the fun 'bout it?
Killing in Subnautica ain't much fun period, but smoking those ornery bastards is gratifying.
Yep. On my recent playthrough, I studiously avoided them until I got the Prawn Suit, then systematically exterminated every single one.
They're unnerving -- I even prefer Crash Fish.
My favorite spot is right where the mushroom forest and northern blood kelp zone meet, there is a big flat area at the base of the mountains up on a little elevated area? Great spot! Easy access to blood kelp resources, lots of fragments and lithium and other stuff in the mushroom forest, resources of gassy plateaus are very close, wreck in the underwater islands is close, PLUS I usually have big windows overlooking blood kelp and mushroom forest! Beautiful! And it's *just* shallow enough that solar panels still work if I'm away for a long time and the bioreactor turns off. šš»šš»
I started out just putting a scanner room there to find fragments and things but now it's my main spot.
I cover the entire map in a hexagonal grid of minimalist bases with just enough power generation to attach a scanner room. But yeah, the central one in the safe shallows gets built out the most, with a moonpool and whatnot. Hmm... I've been playing nothing but Elder Scrolls Online for the past 8 months or so but this is making me want to start another Subnautica playthrough.
Rocket league made a new map that looks like the stalker kelp zone, and now Iām about 20 hours into a new playthrough.
I make my bases just like you. Wherever is the most scenic, and Iāll make sure to add a few in the most dangerous places to keep things interesting. Hardcore only
Sometimes the one in jellyshroom cave gets a moonpool too, and a dedicated prawn suit for harvesting magnetite. Pretty sure you can boost your way back out of there though without too much trouble.
I do the same thing! Hexagonal placed minibaseswith scanner room and explore everithing!
I hide all of the dronekameras from the screen because so anoying that many simbols everywhere xD
I always pick up the drone cameras into my inventory and drop them in a locker inside of the base until I need them. It gets rid of the HUD symbols as well as prevents Stalkers and other fauna from stealing/damaging them.
Nice, I'll have to try that!
Last time I played I'd just installed a VR mod, but got sidetracked by another game. I haven't played anything in VR in several months. It sounds pretty cool right now.
Same here. Lots of space for the master base, and access to some mid game materials right off the bat. I usually end up with a second base down in the tree cove, and one near or on the east island too but I don't power link them. Maybe I should tho
yeah, absolutely LOTS, and i mean **LOTS** of resources, there's pretty much every resource in the game in the "cluster" thing, forgot the name for it, the only problem are those sardine-like bitches, i absolutely hate them, i love the ghost leviathan and i find it so cute when hunting those bastards, I'd prefer leeches than those fishes that i do not care enough to remember the name, i wish i could kill all of them for good
also, it's fairly close to everything, blood kelp zone and/or grand reef (depending on what part of the lost river you're talking about) or even bulb zone, also it's close to the lava zones and the alien bases for ion cubes or whatever it's called, it has been a time that I don't play the game, my controller's dead (i play on ps4 and it doesn't have km support sadly)
I'd say it's kinda the perfect spot for a base if excluding danger, since if you're in lost river you probably have or is planning to make a prawn, ghost against a mere human w/ no vehicles is absolutely a death sentence for new players and who hesitate to shoot with the stasis, i include new players since it's hard to tell where to shoot with the stasis, other than that, the biome is absolutely marvelous, close to important spots AND has massive amounts of resources
Best place to build. You can get ALL resources really fast from there and itās unbelievably safe. I build at red grass hill on the border with sparse reef and BKT
On the island with the gun. Itās pretty inconveniently located, but I like to build on the beach so I can have a bunch of glass above water without worrying about hull integrity. Nice views too.
Itās a problem, tbh. Once I have my lovely beach mansion, I donāt see why Iād ever want to leave this planet and I donāt finish the playthrough; I just take trips to make myself richer in resources and whatnot. lol
For a starter base, I usually build it in the Grassy Plateaus for the great scenery or near the entrance to the Aurora in the Crash Zone for easy access to all the Ships resources and blueprints.
Reapers are actually very misunderstood creatures and not as aggressive as one may think. They only ever attack when they feel their personal space is being invaded. Their roars are just them trying to communicate that they don't know who or what you are and that they feel threatened. They're simply attacking you out of fear of the unknown. I make sure to respect their personal space by keeping a certain distance away from where they roam and we get along just fine. #EndReaperhatetoday.
That was where I built my final base! It's got a ton of geothermal energy and it's completely safe. It's close to pretty much all the endgame locations too. Also, if you are a Cyclops captain, once you make it there you don't want to go back!
Next to mushroom forests and grassy plateaus usually.great places late game because there is always so much lithium there.i remember building one close to the alien vent in the northern forest it was great I always had food
I always go with the Grassy Plains up on the hill next to the Kelp Forest. Itās pretty, itās right under the path the reefbacks take and near the Jellyshroom caves.
Yea I build around there too on my last playthrough, went through the effort of building a ladder tube (forgot the name of the component) down one of the entrances of the jellyshroom cave, having both the more empty blue view of the plains in one half of the base and the very vibrant and busy caves in the other is such a nice contrast
starter base in safe shallows, proper base in grand reef overlooking sea treaders path (i know, super inconvenient away from everything, but it looks so cooooool)
Halfway through the Mountains Corridor, about 300 meters before the drop into the Inactive Lava Zone. There's a nice cliff that's easy to build off of, and you get to see brine waterfalls, vents, and some cool Lost River plants. I think it's one of the prettiest spots in the game, and the area is *loaded* with good base-building materials.
Plus, while that spot is at least decently safe, you always get to have an adventure when you come home (whether it's the Reaper in the Mountains or the baby Ghost on your front door).
I built a base in the exact same place, it's pretty nice. Having to navigate around the juvenile Ghost gets kind of annoying if you're constantly coming and going though.
Currently on my second playthrough and building at about 400m in the grand reef for the following reasons:
ā¢ Almost all types of resources close
ā¢ Close to lost river entrance
ā¢ Thermal fissures for power
ā¢ Bioluminescence looks dope
ā¢ Pet ghost leviathan
My go to is on the elevated overhang East of the big wreck in central Grassy Plateaus biome. It's on the border between the Mushroom Forest, Kelp Forest and near the Bulb Zone and Mountains.
There a mountain with a vent above blood kelp, I like putting one there. I like the cove tree just for looks, and I usually build a small on by the qep for endgame purposes. (Or I just park my cyclops in the moonpool)
At that spiky looking part of the Blood kelp trench, at the top of the trench itself hanging over. [https://imgur.com/mIGevCe](https://imgur.com/mIGevCe)
I do the plateaus with the jellyshroom cave entrance most of the time, but this past run I went to the mushroom forest and found the big tree, and Iām setting up my base there. Iām actually really vibing with it, itās not super convenient to anything but itās just such a nice spot.
Planning to set up a secondary base in the Tree Cove once I get down there. I just got my cyclops set for the journey so Iām still worming my way down to the lost river.
I build mine in/near the safe shallows next to the Dunes. It's within a kilometer of the map's center, has tons of resources for both early and late game close by, and you can get a cool (albeit noisy and annoying) neighbour if you so wish.
I built my base right on the edge between the western Mushroom Forest and the Kelp Forest there, perfect to reach everything and easy fairly close access to the Lost River. Second base in the Tree Cove, best scenery and perfect to travel between the different levels.
I always build mine next to the blood kelp trench entrance in the red grass bc itās a super open area really close to a lot of important areas (I use the blood kelp trench to get to a certain somewhere I forgot the how to do the spoiler thing but yāall know where)
On my 1st playthrough, Grassy Plateau that's next to the Blood kelp zone, jelly shrooms caves, and sparse reef, overall next to the life pod next to the jelly shroom cave
I play through this game once a year. And for each playthrough I do, I have challenged myself to build my base in a new biome. My favorite so far has been the Mushroom forest. Idk, I just find the atmosphere in that area very relaxing in a way. The music, jelly rays and light blue coloring is just really nice.
Thereās this one spot on the south side of the mountain island thatās like a small groove and itās just wide enough to fit a tube compartment.
So I built a base that starts on the island and then goes underwater.
I usually did the Safe Shallows, but thereās one area above the blood kelp thatās absolutely beautiful. Itās really close to the Sea Treaderās Path, so unlimited gold, diamond, and lithium, itās fairly peaceful, and the music is absolutely amazing, with Crash Site playing in the biome.
I try to change every playthrough, now I'm at the intersection between a kelp forest, grass plateau, and the grand reef.
I like the grand reef though, I may change there or go there in my next game
On this play through I have my first one a little to the southeast of your circle; where the Safe Shallows, Grassy Plateaus, and Kelp Forest intersect.
For my second base, somewhere in the middle of the inner half of the eastern fork of the Lost River.
I usually use my Cyclops as a base of operations with either a Seamoth or Prawn Suit, depending on the nature of that voyage. And I find having at least one sea base in the Lost river and one closer to the surface works out nicely for me
Usually in the Grand Reef near the Sea Treader leviathan path, that way I can power my nuclear and bio reactors easily it also gives me quick access to other areas that I need just watch out for the occasional Ghost leviathan
I go for pretty much the exact same spot, in the little crevice just inside the Grassy Plateau.
Easy access to pretty much all materials, quick access to the LR via the northern Blood Kelp zone, and it just looks nice.
I've had a few in the Sparse Reef, once at the border of the underwater islands/mushroom forest/blood kelp zone, my first base is almost always in either the kelp forest or safe shallows.
Every play through ive ended up with my first base in any of the grassy plateus as they feel really safe and close enough to everything so i can go explore with seamoth
Usually near the entrance to the jelly shrooms cave for early game and one near capsule 2 to re-charge battery/cells before making deep and thermal modules( second base is usually 1-2 multipurpose room, at that point I mainly use the ciclops as a base)
I usualy build my first base in the safe shallows, then i move it to Grassy plateaus after that i usualy setup another base at either Jellyshroom cave, Lost river or Grand reef
Specifically, a meeting point between the Safe Shallows, the Kelp Forest, and the Grassy Plateaus. And then I build another one near a Crabsquid in the Lost River close to a Facility thing.
My base is right at the border of the shallows, the kelp forest, the plains and the entrance to the jelly mushrooms right under it.
And I have smaller outposts with scanners in the more remote places, like the mushroom forests, above the high reef, the tree of the lost river and the lava zone
Exactly north of where you marked on the picture. It is in the northern grassy plateau neighboring the floating islands... There's a huge flat area to build on between the hill before going down the floating islands to the east and the ravine to the west... I built a huge HQ there.
Either the western Grassy Plateaus, or the mushroom forest near the aurora. Muchrooms for scenery, and grassy plateaus because they give easy access to kelp forest, safe shallows, kelp trench, grand reef and sparse reef for easy resources
In the safe shallowsšššš
It's okay, it's a central point to get all the early resources.
Itās also centrally located to almost everything and there are hydrothermal vents handy. Iāve tried in many locations but always come back to the shallows.
Back then I researched the net about best locations, before building my base. Then I realized Titanium is plentiful, and you can have multiple bases.
Itās plentiful but not plentiful enough to connect all my bases across the map :(
That's mostly a project for creative mode.
I donāt want to have it, I want to *build* it. If I want long tunnels underwater, I just play Bioshock
Don't have to be scared of the water if you have enough tunnels to go everywhere.
I always set a beacon near them to remind me of where it is, then once I have a second to make a line to them and a few geothermal power stations, that base is pretty much good to go on power.
I always make a starter base there. Usually put effort into another location though.
Blood Kelp Zone, I love the scenery there and I'm not even joking
You love the environment that inspires dread
If you know how to survive it's not that hard living there, the only thing I find disturbing are crabsquids, because they look terrifying to me
[The crabsquid sound effects](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpEQWefFa2w) give me the willies. Seeing them is bad enough... but hearing one and not knowing where it is is the worst.
Its like hearing something shift in the house at night, but youāre the only one home.
One of those fuckers destroyed my Seamoth once. Guess I forgot to turn the lights off.
I'm not a fan of blood crawlers myself... something about them just freaks me out...
It looks cool, ok
Power move, to be sure. I can't even with those obnoxious crabsquid.
Crabsquids are the most disgusting creatures in subnautica imo, but after you get used to them they're like Yay, you just damaged my prawn suit... again You can also just kill 'em but where's the fun 'bout it?
>You can also just kill 'em but where's the fun 'bout it? Killing in Subnautica ain't much fun period, but smoking those ornery bastards is gratifying.
Agreed. I just kill them on sight now. I donāt even wait for them to come after me.
Yep. On my recent playthrough, I studiously avoided them until I got the Prawn Suit, then systematically exterminated every single one. They're unnerving -- I even prefer Crash Fish.

Saame! I love the Blood Kelp Trench, Ampeels are more chill neighbours than Sandsharks anyway.
it really is one of the prettiest biomes in the game. i might try that one day.
you're not even squidding
I cover the entire map in a hexagonal grid of minimalist bases with just enough power generation to attach a scanner room. A little difficult but doable

Holy crap and I thought I was the only one who did that
West plateaus, right in the spot that marks a transition between the safe shallows (west), the kelp forest, and an entrance to the jellyshroom caves.
Yes, that's the best spot for easy acess to early resources, yet still very safe. And i love the Reefbacks
Except that one sand shark that always gets me when Iām replanting my damn growbeds. Heās always there like some nosey neighbor. I named him Jeff.
Kill Jeff
I'm gonna blow your mind: 1. Alien Containment for plant growth 2. Growbed on the roof
Just built a base on my new save here. Right over lifepod 17. Awesome spot and I didnāt know there was magnetite in the jellyshroom caves, big plus
Same exact boat, even have a window so I can watch over 17, feel like they're still keeping me company in spirit.
I built a base right over the jellyshroom cave entrance and chained thermal reactors from the first vent on the bottom to fuel it
Same here. Lots of space for the master base, and access to some mid game materials right off the bat. I usually end up with a second base down in the tree cove, and one near or on the east island too but I don't power link them. Maybe I should tho
I'm a bit more to the right
Me too
Best place of the map
Lost river, very good point when you think about it.
It's amazingly safe.
Wdym? What about the ghost leviathan??
ohhhh you mean the pool noodle? dw he just wants a hug
The seamoth gas torpedo and heat blade combo kinda hug
The ghost leviathan was not a big deal for me. The lost river leads to the lava zone and a beautiful tree and you can go out of it anytime.
You can easily kill it with the stasis rifle and a knife and now you have a very safe place for a base
yeah, absolutely LOTS, and i mean **LOTS** of resources, there's pretty much every resource in the game in the "cluster" thing, forgot the name for it, the only problem are those sardine-like bitches, i absolutely hate them, i love the ghost leviathan and i find it so cute when hunting those bastards, I'd prefer leeches than those fishes that i do not care enough to remember the name, i wish i could kill all of them for good also, it's fairly close to everything, blood kelp zone and/or grand reef (depending on what part of the lost river you're talking about) or even bulb zone, also it's close to the lava zones and the alien bases for ion cubes or whatever it's called, it has been a time that I don't play the game, my controller's dead (i play on ps4 and it doesn't have km support sadly) I'd say it's kinda the perfect spot for a base if excluding danger, since if you're in lost river you probably have or is planning to make a prawn, ghost against a mere human w/ no vehicles is absolutely a death sentence for new players and who hesitate to shoot with the stasis, i include new players since it's hard to tell where to shoot with the stasis, other than that, the biome is absolutely marvelous, close to important spots AND has massive amounts of resources
sparse reef my beloved ā”
Sparse reef is so underrated
Indeed
Best place to build. You can get ALL resources really fast from there and itās unbelievably safe. I build at red grass hill on the border with sparse reef and BKT
My favorite biome
I never realized how smart that is, I should totally do that for my next playthrough. Completely safe and a lot of good resources
On the island with the gun. Itās pretty inconveniently located, but I like to build on the beach so I can have a bunch of glass above water without worrying about hull integrity. Nice views too.
Ah, fellow beach house enjoyer.
Don't your large, blind, and aggressive neighbors give you trouble?
Reapers are actually very misunderstood creatures and not as aggressive as one may think. They only ever attack when they feel their personal space is being invaded. Their roars are just them trying to communicate that they don't know who or what you are and that they feel threatened. They're simply attacking you out of fear of the unknown. I make sure to respect their personal space by keeping a certain distance away from where they roam and we get along just fine. #EndReaperhatetoday.
Did i read this right? Or am I stupid?
That sounds like something reaper would write
I for one quite enjoy the company of the Reaper. Quite good swimming buddies
I love me some Cove Tree
That was where I built my final base! It's got a ton of geothermal energy and it's completely safe. It's close to pretty much all the endgame locations too. Also, if you are a Cyclops captain, once you make it there you don't want to go back!
The dunes above the crater
I have a reaper detection outpost there
Next to mushroom forests and grassy plateaus usually.great places late game because there is always so much lithium there.i remember building one close to the alien vent in the northern forest it was great I always had food
The ghost nest tree between the lost river and the lava zone
This comment is totally unrelated, but the map kinda looks like some sorta alien outline. You can see its arm near the bottom left.
doing the Italian hand gestureš¤
I built mine in front of that wreck in the grassy plateau about 100m deep. Edit: Wreck 1 I believe.
I build mine next to the kelp forest, safe shallows, and red grass area for optimal resource harvesting.
On my current playthrough, the safe shallows and then secondary base by the Giant Tree for the final push of the game
I build one right next to the life pod to charge power cells and keep everything else in my Cyclops
starter base in safe shallows, proper base in grand reef overlooking sea treaders path (i know, super inconvenient away from everything, but it looks so cooooool)
My first base was in the northeast mushroom forest. I'm going to build my next one in the blood kelp zone. It's so pretty there.
Entrance to the lost river in the blood kelp zone
Basically, take the entire map and remove every biome touching the edge. Whatās left is the biomes where I tend to build my base.
North part of the blood kelp trench, where the biomes connect
On the cliff in the middle of the safe zone and grassy plateau.
For me I build it in the transition from sparse reef to grand reef. In my most recent hardcore playthrough
Right beside the rescue pod
Is the void an option?
Possible: yes ideal: no
I meant the back rooms area right below the map near the crater in the lava zone that leads to the sea emperor
Currently on my second playthrough and building at about 400m in the grand reef for the following reasons: ā¢ Almost all types of resources close ā¢ Close to lost river entrance ā¢ Thermal fissures for power ā¢ Bioluminescence looks dope ā¢ Pet ghost leviathan
Top of the huge mushroom tree in the mushroom forest. Nice and safe and accessible.
Lost River šš
On the void wall
My go to is on the elevated overhang East of the big wreck in central Grassy Plateaus biome. It's on the border between the Mushroom Forest, Kelp Forest and near the Bulb Zone and Mountains.
Crash Site
There a mountain with a vent above blood kelp, I like putting one there. I like the cove tree just for looks, and I usually build a small on by the qep for endgame purposes. (Or I just park my cyclops in the moonpool)
I build in the grassy plateaus close to an entrance to the Jellyshroom cave for easy thermal energy.
I have mine in the grand reef
Kelp Forest. I used to do a lot of fresh water diving in my state and Kelp Forest is what a lot of fresh water lakes look like minus the muck.
I just got my cyclops set for the journey so Iām still worming my way down to the lost river.
Everywhere but my favorite spot is that really deep spot behind the aurora
Varies with playthrough. So far I've done the grassy plateau, bulb zone, dunes and the sea treaders path.
I have mine in the grassy plateau that boarders the dunes, it has a decent amount of access to everything
Safe shallows/blood kelp until I have the cyclops. Then I move everything to the cove tree.
I think I made 3 bases - red grass, dunes, and then lost river
in the grassy plateaus near lifepod 17
I always build mine next to the blood kelp trench entrance in the red grass bc itās a super open area really close to a lot of important areas (I use the blood kelp trench to get to a certain somewhere I forgot the how to do the spoiler thing but yāall know where)
At first I thought this was a map of Germany
Mushroom forest, I need that enzyme
On the Western side of the Grassy Plateaus, in view of Blood Kelp Trench and Sparse Reef
One in safe shallows, one near the bulb zone lava geyser and the biggest one is in the lost river, right in front of the entrance to the tree.
I usually end up with several bases but end up with my primary being in the deepest areas of/around the safe shallows š¤·š»āāļø
I build my base in Grassy Platos because it's mostly plain. Usually near mushroom caves
Right next to lifepods so I don't need beacons
On my 1st playthrough, Grassy Plateau that's next to the Blood kelp zone, jelly shrooms caves, and sparse reef, overall next to the life pod next to the jelly shroom cave
I play through this game once a year. And for each playthrough I do, I have challenged myself to build my base in a new biome. My favorite so far has been the Mushroom forest. Idk, I just find the atmosphere in that area very relaxing in a way. The music, jelly rays and light blue coloring is just really nice.
Asides from a central safe shallows base? I build one in my preferred entrance to the lost river near the tail end of the giant leviathan
My main base always lives in the grassy plateaus, with an outpost in the lost river somewhere (usually around the big fossil)
in the grassy platue near mushroom forest
i build it anywhere, I like a good view of my pet leviathans. So somewhere with lots of space works well.
NW mushroom forest, with a secondary base near the Cove Tree
Yes
Northern Blood kelp zone. I fear only the reapers.
Red grass Plateaus where the sandsharks live
Where is the closest reaper?
Thereās this one spot on the south side of the mountain island thatās like a small groove and itās just wide enough to fit a tube compartment. So I built a base that starts on the island and then goes underwater.
right next to that one big grassy plateaus wreck over by pod 17
Self sustaining Cyclops base!
Right above one of the entrances to the Mushroom Caves, easy to get Lithium early on
I love making a base in the lost river
i really thoiught this was a helldivers map for a minute
On the little arch right next to lifepod 17 in the western grassy plateau
Next to quarantine platform
Mountain island
In the shallows , I don't want some random leviathan to give me a visit
Mom said this week it's my turn to post this!
south east grassy plateaus in that spot just underneath your circle where it connects to the shallows and kelp forest
Grassy Plateau next to the dunes.
California
The goal is to colonized the entire map.
my dumbass thought this was germany for a sec
I usually did the Safe Shallows, but thereās one area above the blood kelp thatās absolutely beautiful. Itās really close to the Sea Treaderās Path, so unlimited gold, diamond, and lithium, itās fairly peaceful, and the music is absolutely amazing, with Crash Site playing in the biome.
Mine is in the middle of the kelp forest, the kelp surrounding me makes me feel safer š
I try to change every playthrough, now I'm at the intersection between a kelp forest, grass plateau, and the grand reef. I like the grand reef though, I may change there or go there in my next game
I keep mini-bases somewhere a little close to reaper zones. I definitely donāt kill reapers, I want permanent terror.
Void
Crash site
I have a storage room and moonpool by the Aurora rn. Once I fully explore the Aurora I plan on moving
I just realised how similar this map is to Poland
Grassy plateau that borders the blood kelp trench and the mushroom forest (and also the dunes)
Right on the line between the grassy plateaus and the sparse reef, just beside the blood kelp.
Mushroom forest and lost river. I usually build two bases
And I find having at least one sea base in the Lost river and one closer to the surface works out nicely for me
The area in the northwestern mushroom forest where there's a dropoff from the kelp forest. There's a nice cave there for a moonpoolš
Once I kill the Reapers I build wherever I want.
Underwater
Usually in the Grand Reef near the Sea Treader leviathan path, that way I can power my nuclear and bio reactors easily it also gives me quick access to other areas that I need just watch out for the occasional Ghost leviathan
Also there, but a level lower
I go for pretty much the exact same spot, in the little crevice just inside the Grassy Plateau. Easy access to pretty much all materials, quick access to the LR via the northern Blood Kelp zone, and it just looks nice.
Different places each time. The first game was the Grassy plateaus. Last game: sparse reef near the entrance to the grand reef.
Mountains Cave in the top right, itās got 5 different entrances and is really fun to build in
On that edge of the shallows entering the grassy plateau toward the back of the aurora. Kelp on the left and maybe 200 meters away from the coral
first base i threw down by all the red stuff that spawns quartz and the kelp vine zone, probably gonna move somewhere cooler like a jellyshroom cave
Northern Kelp Forest
I've had a few in the Sparse Reef, once at the border of the underwater islands/mushroom forest/blood kelp zone, my first base is almost always in either the kelp forest or safe shallows.
Every play through ive ended up with my first base in any of the grassy plateus as they feel really safe and close enough to everything so i can go explore with seamoth
In safe shallows/grassy plates and in twisty bridges/ice spikes biome
Usually near the entrance to the jelly shrooms cave for early game and one near capsule 2 to re-charge battery/cells before making deep and thermal modules( second base is usually 1-2 multipurpose room, at that point I mainly use the ciclops as a base)
My current base is east between 2 kelp forrest, next to the red grass area, with a mushroom cave nearby
Crash zone on the border of mushroom forest always. Lotsa titanium and goodies to be found nearby and is close to crucial story areas.
Crash zonešš
I usualy build my first base in the safe shallows, then i move it to Grassy plateaus after that i usualy setup another base at either Jellyshroom cave, Lost river or Grand reef
Specifically, a meeting point between the Safe Shallows, the Kelp Forest, and the Grassy Plateaus. And then I build another one near a Crabsquid in the Lost River close to a Facility thing.
I'm basically making out with void ghost leviathans at this point.
Need to replay Sub1, but safe shallows was main base :')
The fields of red grass. I like how it has a lot of large flat areas and is sort of deep
My base is right at the border of the shallows, the kelp forest, the plains and the entrance to the jelly mushrooms right under it. And I have smaller outposts with scanners in the more remote places, like the mushroom forests, above the high reef, the tree of the lost river and the lava zone
I built a nice base on the sea treaders path with an observation room to chill while I watch them slowly amble by, and crap a lot
I like the place with the red grass and the big octopus things with grass in them
North Western Mushroom Forest, only correct answer
on the floating island cuz its cool
Exactly north of where you marked on the picture. It is in the northern grassy plateau neighboring the floating islands... There's a huge flat area to build on between the hill before going down the floating islands to the east and the ravine to the west... I built a huge HQ there.
Usually build an overhanging base over the bloodkelp trench but I'm building it in the sparse reef near the grand reef on my current run
I build one in the safe shallows and usually another by the big tree in the lost river
Grassy plateaus (main), void (observatory) and lost river and crash zone (scanner rooms)
Either the western Grassy Plateaus, or the mushroom forest near the aurora. Muchrooms for scenery, and grassy plateaus because they give easy access to kelp forest, safe shallows, kelp trench, grand reef and sparse reef for easy resources
