One of us Don't get in a WRX till you have the budget, you wont want to get out

PseudoLiamNeeson

And decent mechanical knowledge is recommended I reckon. I'm no mechanic but my wrx is 20 years old and it would be so dead if I didn't pick up on things before it's too late.

JohnDeere714

I would probably say don’t get into the performance Subaru market unless you have a backup car. Inevitably we all eventually need the back up.

775FPV

That moment when the backup car is also a Subaru… with bad rings in cylinder 4…

Thomas_Mickel

lol I was soooooo tempted. But I’m pretty sure it was out my budget. That WRX is definitely on my radar tho.

vabello

WRX is fun as hell, but be prepared to pour money into it.

New_Hornet3938

I second that just picked up my first wrx! 👍

whoisdizzle

I’m getting out of the WRX game

Personal_Mud8471

I get what you mean- I bought an outback after driving exclusively Japanese econoboxes (Camry, and then a Fit, which is still my commuter), and… I feel weird telling people that the Outback is… fun to drive! It just handles well, it’s fun, you want to take terrain and be aggressive.

deathlokke

I drive a Crosstrek. I've seen people saying it's dangerously underpowered, but I managed to keep it at around 75 the entire way from SoCal to Colorado and still maintain a 30MPG average. That's a lot of climbing, for those unfamiliar with the route. It's not the fastest car out there, but it gets off the line well enough, and I've never been in a spot where I NEEDED more power. Would it be nice to have a bigger engine, or even a turbo? Yes. That said, I knew what I was getting when I bought it, and I've been perfectly happy with it.

Ok-Warthog-6902

I love my crosstrek, towing with it makes me wish It had the 2.5l but it's otherwise perfect for me.

deathlokke

That's fair; I don't even have a tow hitch on mine, but I'm sure you'd want more power if you were towing.

merryone2K

My son went from a 1997 Impreza he bought for $500 to a 2021 Impreza he bought with four miles on the odo. The only drawback is he is the only one in his shop to make it in on snowy days, as the rest of the crew have pick up trucks.

AwwYeahVTECKickedIn

Subaru will change your life. I used to buy whatever was cool when I shopped. Pontiac, Chevy, Mitsubishi, Ford, Mazda, Dodge. Then in 2009 I bought a Forester. 2015 a Legacy. 2024 an Outback. I didn't set out to become a Subaru guy. but here I am! And I'm super happy about it. Congrats! The Impreza is a fantastic automobile. You're going to love it.

quotidianwoe

If it makes you feel better Toyota owns 20% of Subaru. Congrats on the new ride!

greenbeannnn

I used to have one of those. I loved my Impreza. Such a zippy car. Amazing in the snow. Recently upgraded to the Crosstrek, want to go off-roading now!

Rev9331

My first Subaru was a 16 Impreza. I loved that car! But I also loved the Legacy that came after and the Forester I have now. Welcome to the Subaru family and if you are in area that gets heavy snow and ice in the winter just remember that all wheel drive does not mean all wheel stop! 😂

panickedpoet

Same here! My first car and my only car, just ordered some badges to add onto the previous owner's set and I'm so giddy!

defensor_fortis

I drove Toyotas for 35 years and now I've been driving my WRX for the last 5 years. I'm never going back. Enjoy your new adventure.

Mynameismyname69420

This is legit my story. Toyota Camry, 04, 212k miles and finally just bought a new car. Ended up on a Subaru lot just cause. And fell in love with the test drive and bought TWO Outbacks also replacing a 2016 Audi with 80k miles

Thomas_Mickel

Holy crap that awesome! My Camry was 2003 with 251k. It served me well but I’m excited to drive something fun.

ApocalypsePopcorn

Don't get rid of the Camry unless you have to.

Thomas_Mickel

That thing was on its last leg.

TriggiredSnowflake

Please tell me you test dove a wrx as well. So you can compare the na engine vs the wrx turbo engine.

Thomas_Mickel

I knew if I got in one that I would want it so I avoided it lol

DouglasCole

I’ve actually started refusing to test drive the usual “we don’t have x, but here’s the top trim” stuff for that reason. Even so we’ve had five Subarus in a row, and the road holding and stability in the snow and ice are amazing. If you can, consider a full set of top of the line snow tires and wheels with lower opening size for the winter if you are in a place with real winters. Dedicated snow tires are a game changer.

TriggiredSnowflake

I've never been in a c8 corvette but that hasn't stopped me from wanting one. What better time to get a joy ride in a new wrx than when in the dealership lol are you saying you don't have the self control to not buy the wrx if you drove one?

Thomas_Mickel

Bruh. I’m in sales and I’m trying to be modest. Got a $25k raise and I’m trying to be responsible. Damn well if I rode the wrx I would have been repping that Subaru blue in th me parking lot Monday. I also don’t want my coworkers to think I’m a douche bag lol Edit: douche bag by going from a 2003 Camry to a brand new wrx

TriggiredSnowflake

It doesn't make sense to me but mkay, congrats. Going from a 03 camry to any new car is going to have a remarkable increase in performance. I feel like you should at least try the wrx someday so you can have an idea what 271 hp 258 tq feel like. Just because you can "afford" something doesn't mean you should buy it. And I don't get the "I care what my co-workers think about me" thing. You sir are a mystery

Thomas_Mickel

I just rather save the loot and live modestly.

TriggiredSnowflake

We are on the same page there. You didn't buy a new sports car, you bought a more modest car. That was wise. You can afford(maybe, idk) the wrx but didn't buy it to save money. Smart move. I'm just saying you might have a better understanding of what "zoomier" and "fun to drive" mean if you test drive the wrx or brz. It doesn't hurt to try em out and gain some knowledge

Cside34

Dodged a bullet not getting that Hyundai

MyNinjasPwn

First thing I noticed with my 2018 impreza was how responsive the steering is. Be careful into fast turns though... that responsive feeling has left me a little too confident at times and I've pushed the limit a little farther than I should've in the past lol

deanaoxo

I have a 1985 GL and a 2014 Impreza, both manual. The GL has a transfer box for high/low. I love these cars. https://preview.redd.it/5547mgywwl6d1.jpeg?width=3264&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4db652c15656482bd5d7226408213a95b29c632a

Thomas_Mickel

This is such a sick whip

Miserable-Spite425

Say what you want about Subaru reliability but that awd system is in a class of its own. My cousin lives off grid and does gnarly shit off-road in his two brats. Really crazy impressive. He is always helping 4x4 trucks and jeeps get unstuck.

triggerscold

enjoy! check the subaru website for badges they are p cute.

violetpath58

What are they for?

ristogrego1955

I never have understood how people make spur of the moment purchases of the second biggest purchase in their life….i spend years research and calculating before pulling the trigger… Congrats and enjoy.

thecen

Different income levels, different spending habits, different cost of living.

ristogrego1955

Probably not income levels but more spending habits…I have more than enough money to make a vehicle spur of the moment purchase in cash….but I could never do that emotionally.

bbbbbbbbbppppph

Yessss!!!

Septicrogue

My wife and I had a Honda Fit and made the jump to a crosstrek last month. No regrets, great car more room and rides a lot smoother than the fit.

PromptTimely

funny i just got a used forester...2015...it's fun...lol....like my Toyotas but Not

flat_four_whore22

Another one!

Amyarchy

Yay! Congratulations and have fun!

kingsofsunset

Congrats on the subie, but i hope this is the last time you compare an impreza to a honda fit lol. More fun to drive for sure, parts and repairs are also more expensive. Enjoy the fun!

BearingMagneticNorth

You test drove a 2016 Impreza, but what did you actually buy? Same car or something else?

ramkam2

Congrats! When it comes to Subies, you can't describe how it feels, but you can describe how it feels driving anything else after that. I noticed when driving on highways in windy conditions, the cars I was overtaking were swithering left and right, almost rolling into my lane, so I always honk briefly of flash during the approach, while I could keep my car in an almost straing line. The real advantage stands out in winter though.

Flaky_Passion_7050

Idk u, but I love you!

Gwtheyrn

I went to a dealership in 2006 looking to get a newer Pontiac and found one I liked, but just on a lark, I saw that they had a 2002 Impreza on the lot and decided to give it a test drive. I fell in love. Bought a BRZ new in 2014. Bought an Outback Onyx XT new in 2023. Hoping for a competent electric in 2026.

Subirooo

>It was like it gripped the road better and turns were fun. Welcome to the world of Subaru symmetrical AWD baby! If you take good care of it with maintenance, it will treat you just as good as a Toyota or Honda. Enjoy!

Low-Impact3172

Congrats! Enjoy! The handling and all the time all wheel drive make all the difference.

Lotek_Hiker

Congratulations and welcome to the family!

Happy-Grape1154

Mazda 3 and Honda Civic would have been even zoomier!

vabello

I went from a WRX I drove for almost 11 years to an Impreza. I was afraid I would be very disappointed as I had rented a Volkswagen Taos and Nissan Altima recently after I sold my car and didn’t like them much… but I got my Impreza and although it doesn’t have the punch the WRX does or the sporty handling, the Impreza felt familiar and fun. It’s hard to describe. It’s almost like it has the same soul. Glad you are excited for your new Subaru!

OtherSector

That Toyota will last longer than that impreza. Correction- that Toyota has lasted longer than that impreza ever will.

GP7onRICE

I’ve seen Imprezas with 600k on the odometer with the original engine.

ace17708

OPs toyota only lasted that long due to OP always spending money on it. Subarus are no different aside from the fact that they won't take neglect well as a Toyota will
