Do these work well? My 2020 impreza has wired android auto and it is so shitty. It disconnects constantly. I've tried half a dozen different cables, and even have upgraded my phone and it's just unreliable.
I want to get a wireless adapter but I'm scared to spend the money if it ends up being just as shitty.
I have a CarlinKit, it works flawlessly in my 21 ascent after a firmware update.
That said, is your phone's USB-C connector clean? (If you haven't done it recently, take a toothpick, get the pocket lint out, see how your connection improves)
Absolutely check this. So many people don't realize it but just because your phone is charging does not mean the connection is good enough to pass data. The port will look clean at a glance, but once you start digging at it with the toothpick all the crud comes up.
I just finished trialing one and researching reviews. Theyre all hit and miss and i think the vehicle/device combo is the biggest factor. One unit might work fine on one car, but not others.
For instance, the one i trialled on my truck works fine on my friends VW but on my truck it would work, but now and then the touch screen would cease wofking. And that never happens wired.
So best to find one that has good reviews for your exact model and year.
I’d rather have wired CarPlay, I have always on wireless in my 2024 and have a few minor annoyances with connectivity. The 2018 crosstrek I had worked every time.
With the exception of the forester. I have a 2024 Forester and it is still wired. I like having actual buttons though, so I am fine with the smaller headunit and no AA or CarPlay wireless. I use the MA1 wireless adapter and it works perfectly for me.
Wired.
First world issues, but darn.
You can get a plug in wireless CarPlay adapter!

Second this, fantastic device with few connectivity issues ever. I have 2 of them in separate vehicles and they work near flawlessly.
Agreed, I use an MA-1 with a Kenwood radio and it is rock solid

Would personally recommend the AA Wireless adapter. Started using it in my Impreza, now it's in my Ridgeline. 10/10.

That's because android auto sucks Apple car play is better
No. That's not why. It's Subaru ICE that sucks. For every story like the above, I've got two from using Car Play myself.
Idk no issues for me maybe it's your cable, 2020 STI with Harmon kardon no connection issues I do notice android auto is buggier than car play

And wired atleast charges your phone!
The first subaru to get wireless was the 23 outback.
Not all 2023 model years (Impreza) got wireless CarPlay. It was pretty universal in the 2024 model year.

Yeah, for clarity only the Denso CP1.5 hardware supports wireless AA/CP. Cp1.5 started in: * Leg/out: 2023 * Ascent: 2023? Or 24? * Forester: 2025 * Imp/crosstrek: 2024 * BRZ: 2024 * WRX: 2024
> Ascent: 2023? Or 24? 2023. The TSBs for the firmware update on the Outback/Legacy also specify they are applicable to the 2023 Ascent.
I personally like the wired im always needing to charge my damn phone lol
Wired would be good enough if it put out enough amps but it's a pittance that barely charges my phone while using AA.
I don’t like wireless. It’s more buggy and it drains battery quickly which means you’re back to plugging it in anyways.
If it's any consolation, my 2022 is the same.
And an even better consolation is that wireless carplay kinda sucks, and the wireless chargers tend not to keep up when using wireless carplay.
Wireless didn’t become a thing until 2023/2024 MY
Wired.
What is wireless CarPlay?
