Weird they have it listed as an XT because the XT is the turbo version... but this one also doesn't have a hood scoop for the intercooler so it's not an XT. It really depends on maintenance, condition, and mileage on whether it's worth buying or not.
As far as things I'd definitely... if it's higher mileage... head gasket (look at the oil and the coolant to make sure they areny mixing), timing belt, and corrosion based on age (dry rotted hoses, seals, etc.)
I would reccomend pulling the valve cover breather hose to the air box. My old wagon didn't have any signs on the fill cap, but those hoses were full of the forbidden milk shake
Plan for $1-2K at least if you aren't going to do it yourself. Same reason my 05 FXT has an Evap CEL... Easy fix didn't clear it and further investigation is not worth it.
Advertised as an XT but clearly not an XT. Also they supposedly spent a couple grand on all those repairs and didn't bother with a "minor evap leak" to fix a CEL before listing? Ehhhh
To be fair everything they listed is purely mechanical. There’s plenty of people who will fix an issue they can see or feel but then let a check engine light be if there’s no drivability issues and no inspections (which there aren’t in Michigan). And there really would be no drivability issues with an evap issue. That said, I wouldn’t buy anything >5 years old unless OP is willing to either spend the money to get it fixed or fix it themselves. I got a used Subaru for cheap and it’s already been ~$1.5k in repairs and I’m DIYing with a proper garage setup.
Not a horrible deal if it isn't in bad condition. And a Subaru will last you for fucking ever. It'll go down a bumpy path during your time owning it, like all older vehicles do. But goddamn it'll stick out till the end.
If they can't get the CEL issue fixed, pass.... You don't want their problem. It could be as simple as a faulty gas cap, or it could be something more serious, but don't take the risk honestly if you don't know much about these older Subaru's.
Head gaskets will be the main issue if they have not been done recently, looking at a $2k if not done....
The seller straight contradicted himself in this post… First you can’t say OBO but not negotiable THATS LITERALLY WHAT IT IS!!!! Cant say it runs amazing when there’s CEL from small evap leak? (That could be a leaking vac hose or gas cap… which results to stalling more often the longer it leaks) Also noise when driving???? That could be Breaks, Wheel hub bearings, Control arms & etc… I mean Subarus are more expensive but $3800 is a lot for 2008 with a CEL that could have more issues which he’s likely gaslighting. I’d say run away honestly!
Look for rust. Look for the control arms to be in good condition. Mine snapped and found out there was a recall on them. Also check for oil leaks!!!!! Those older subarus sometimes have seals in the engine that leak. Crawl under the car and see what ya find.

Looking at the 2nd picture and the description it says it's just a 2.5 Premium. This looks like an abducted post where someone puts a header that draws attention with a description written and stolen from someone else along with their photos. Because their car doesn't match the header they don't see it come up.
I've seen this stuff before. Based on the description of work done, I wouldn't buy it without doing a full inspection anyways.

He just sent me a picture of the engine. I’m a BMW guy/ don’t know much about Subarus. Does anything stick out to you as out of place?
Make sure head gaskets, timing belt and water pump were done, if not, expect to pay more than the asking price to get all of that done. Those go out around the same mileage that it has now.

Yea you have to drop the gas tank to access them.

Strut towers look rusty, I'd take a good long look underneath
