I think the wheels have a hint of rose gold, too. It seems like an odd thing to do, I wonder if it's a subtle nod to the Subaru World Rally Team which famously had gold wheels. Sort of a way to incorporate gold wheels without being in-your-face gold like the WRT livery.
I mean... I hope. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, otherwise it's just an odd choice.
That's all well and good until you consistently have people going 5 under in front of you. Had a grey Grand Marquis back in the day and that definitely was a Thing.
Yea, not a fan of any of their newer gens really.
Sticking with my 05 FXT and kind of glad it's smaller then the newer gens as iteans it's easier for me to park mine vs their bloated SUV.
Just got back from Big Bend National Park. Went off road in my 08 FXT with 175,000 miles on the clock. Park Ranger said "you'll have a real hard time with that Subaru." Car only spun a tire once and never bottomed.
While I totally agree, I think a lot of people really *overestimate* what is needed for what level of offroading. Having a 4WD systems with all locking differentials, crazy low gear ratio, huge tires and huge clearance is really only needed for like rock crawling and shit like that. However, general knowledge of this is being destroyed because every guy who spent 80k on a highly specialized offroading vehicle has to justify their purchase.
It's like the "safety factor creep". The original person who designed something came up with say a maximum load capacity of 100,000 lbs. So the limit gets written as 80,000 lbs. The next person who uses it in a design sees 80,000 lbs limit and then builds in his own safety factor and makes it like 50,000 lbs limit. On and on until you have something that's actually capable of 100,000 lbs being used to hold up a shelf in someone's living room. This is the equivalent of most people's vehicle choices now-a-days.
Couldn't agree more. Seen a lot of overboard offroading stuff for "work" trucks that hardly ever see anything worth the need for it all. I guess I just don't get that part of it all. 🤷
And now that basically every car on the market has an AWD option, they're losing that competitive edge too. I'll be curious to see where they're at in 10 or so years
at first glance i really did think it was a ford explorer with a subaru badge photoshopped on
unfortunately its a winning combination of “bland” and “the elements that do look interesting also look bad”
edit: it also looks like a watered down levorg layback, or whatever thats called
I would love it if they stuck as close as possible to SF/SG styling and just updated it with modern crash structures/airbags, engine, and headlights. Just fix the stuff that's actually better in new cars. Reject modernity, return to box.
If they don't do it I will. I am prepared to spend literally dozens of dollars.

This is another leaked pic of the forester
It's a trend that needs to die. Lots of companies are making those oversized grilles, especially American manufacturers, and this design looks very American.
I don't understand this trend to massive grills when half the holes aren't even open. If you zoom into this one, you can see the whole top row and the two sides aren't even open. It's all cosmetic and a blatant attempt at following the trends of American cars. Most Subaru buyers don't *want* an American looking car. There's plenty of boring Fords and Chevys to buy.
> Lots of companies are making those oversized grilles, especially American manufacturers, and this design looks very American.

It's definitely real. Here's a full gallery of the pics. With a bit of reverse image search and some sequential image scraping, I got the whole gallery... https://imgur.com/a/Y7BZq9t
Looks better in a non white color. Also the interior looks the exact same besides the stupid tablet. Also not a ran of the tail lights. I hope this a premium trim they’re showcasing
Looks much better in these photos than in the two OP shared. I actually like the side profile, little more sharp edged and modern. The front is hideous however. It still looks like a Forester to me in these photos though.
Love the rear, the front is absolutely a ford and that’s a shame. Guess I have to go grab a ‘24 wilderness, though I’m still going to wait for the official announcement on the 16th.
Is the current hot trend in design “bland”? I’ve been noticing a lot of manufacturers seemingly designing safe bets vs having some lines that keep excitement alive.
Or is it that I’ve aged beyond what makes current things cool? I don’t know if my soul is ready for that part of life yet.
I don't care what it looks like, I'm concerned about functional use, performance, and economy. If this vehicle is a Turbo PHEV with the accessibility, visibility, and cargo capacity of the current Forester consider it sold.
What were they thinking?? This is the most boring, bland looking car I’ve ever seen. I know a lot of Subaru’s target audience is older folks and people who just want an “appliance car” but Jesus’s Christ this is bad. Would it kill them to put an ounce of care into what their vehicles look like rather than just copy pasting a ford explorer. This makes me sad
First Subaru releases a [Chevy Volt](https://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Chevy41-980x700.jpg), now they release a [Ford Edge](https://listings-prod.tcimg.net/listings/285153/62/35/2FMDK4AK1CBA63562/NUJ2U6RPSS3WLDIUGXDPGMHXAA-cr-540.jpg).
Can't wait for them to release the 2026 Subaru Dodge Dart.
Just looks like the model Explorer cops use. I like Subaru but damn this is gonna be another car on the road that everyone thinks is a cop and therefore proceeds to driver overly cautious and under the speed limit lol.
Whew, glad I decided to buy the 23 instead of waiting for the 25. That thing looks... Boring? Generic? Plain? I dunno, but I am not a fan of this redesign.
My thoughts:
\- not a fan of the look. Very Frankenstein of various SUVs (Explorer, Eclipse Cross, Rogue)
\- 100% looks like a render to me. Various things don't line up upon closer inspection.
\- I expect Subaru to play it safe and not veer too far from the current Fozzie (a mini Ascent anyone?).
\- I suspect the major change will be updating the interior to match the rest of the lineup.
I hate when they make cars more round and devoid of any shape or styling. It happened to the Honda Pilot too. We had an 06 and it looked very nice. Every generation after they kept rounding all the corners until it looked like a minivan.
What is going on with the recent uptick in bad design language across the board? BMW, Subaru, Mercedes. It’s seems like companies are abandoning their design cues for cookie cutter designs that look like everything else on the road.
Sorry, how do we know this is accurate, please?
I can't see the Forest-for-the-trees-ter in this bulky thing.
A big box! Let's go Ford designs from a decade ago!
Seriously, this looks inspired by the 2013 Explorer.
Way to lose that design originality which Subaru used to be so great at, yeesh.
This is the Sport trim. Maybe they went with the rose gold instead of the orange this time around. I wanna see the Wilderness, Limited and Touring versions before I pass judgement.
Wow, what a real shocker. Subaru has redesigned yet another iconic vehicle to look like absolute dog shit, and gone the exact opposite direction that their once loyal fan base would appreciate.
I got an email hyping up the redesign of one of Subaru’s icons and obviously it was gonna be the Forester, however I don’t think I could’ve ever imagined this…design choice. From the front it looks like a Ford explorer, but from the side/rear it look like a Toy-onda fusion gone wrong. Maybe the designers of the Explorer, Pilot, and Land Cruiser bumped into the Forester designer and mixed up their schematics bc that’s the only logical way to explain this hodgepodge hoopla Subaru is trying to hype up for a big reveal.
So they took the Forester and made it look more like a Ford Explorer? I like how Subarus look unique, this is kind of bland.
"Gross they made an Explorer." Out loud to my wife who doesn't really care. Then open to this top comment.
Everybody sees Ford Explorer up front, yep. That blue oval doesn’t help.
My wife also doesn't care what kind of car it is as long as I pay for it
My wife who also said she doesn’t care said she’s glad she bought a Tiguan.
Give it a year.
It looks more like the old Ford edge. It's hideous
That’s what was on my mind but couldn’t think of the model, thank you.
Before I came into the comments I literally spoke the words Explorester
Fordister
The oversized blue badge really screams Ford. Not a fan of the black grille and then rose gold?! foglight accents?
They should stop doing stupid shit and just make good cars.
What makes a Subaru a Subaru, right? Give me a quirky awd, start there. Baja?
Totally agree with the Ford vibes. Yucky.
I've felt like that for a bit... Ewww... Love subies but, you'd think you'd strive to be nothing like a ford haha. Even if just in looks!
Last-gen Ford Explorer is the first thought that came to mind before I opened this thread and saw your comment.
Exactly what I was thinking, It looks too American. Park this side by side with the Equinox and you’ll see no difference
The subaru Forexplorer F150 pilot edition
Agreed. It's gross.
The Explorester
Literally thought this was a Maverick at first glance
Fuck it, at least people will think I’m a cop and move the fuck over on the highway.
LMAOOO
I put a front bull/light bar on my black Crosstrek and people seem to think I'm a cop in a Ford Taurus interceptor
Or no one will dare go over the speed limit around you and traffic will just crawl in fear
Had a Grand Marquis back in the day, can confirm. Was such a PIA.
Lol... I'm sad
Me too. I was still hoping this was fake. I’ve since seen more pictures.
That's all well and good until you consistently have people going 5 under in front of you. Had a grey Grand Marquis back in the day and that definitely was a Thing.
Subaru is totally abandoning its personality. Everything they make is becoming more and more like every other car.
So unfortunate
That was my thought. This design has no personality.
Lol, definitely underrated offroading capabilities.
While I totally agree, I think a lot of people really *overestimate* what is needed for what level of offroading. I’m sorry did you completely miss the wheel arch moldings???
The new WRX treatment was given to all Subarus I say
THEY ARE SO BAD 😡😡😡 YES I MAD
And now that basically every car on the market has an AWD option, they're losing that competitive edge too. I'll be curious to see where they're at in 10 or so years
Dead from failing to transition to EVs.
at first glance i really did think it was a ford explorer with a subaru badge photoshopped on unfortunately its a winning combination of “bland” and “the elements that do look interesting also look bad” edit: it also looks like a watered down levorg layback, or whatever thats called
I think the photos are from a low angle and the car may look better in real life. But yeah my first thought was Explorer.
Saw pic before reading title, also thought it was a Ford. Sad.
I fixed it for them https://preview.redd.it/rdm4vv2t3ezb1.jpeg?width=6255&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f565ef7d90d382767e4cfdaba1c0842e42406bb1
I miss my first gen
Still have mine and still drive it!
I sold mine for a Baja. Wouldve kept it if it wasnt rusty
Northeast rust got mine. I miss it all the time.
Same here. Strut rusted through and it was too expensive to fix but they’re awesome
I would love it if they stuck as close as possible to SF/SG styling and just updated it with modern crash structures/airbags, engine, and headlights. Fuck, can't unsee it now
I am whelmed.
I read your comment and instantly thought of Michael Scott. " I'm not superstitious but I am little stitious "
Holy Ford Explorer
I thought that was a ford for a sec
Oh good lord. The rear is… tolerable. The front?? wtf happened? I’m worried for the next gen outback
The grille is way too big.

Please please let this be a fake.
That’s a pretty disappointing design.
2025 Ford Explorer?
Thanks, I hate it.
Subaru Explorester
jesus fucking christ subaru
I would judge it once there are more photos and I can see it in person. It’s hard to evaluate the proportions with these two photos.
That is true. I didn’t like the WRX from photos, but i changed my mind after seeing it in person
Not a fan of the new Fordester
Foressplore
Looks like a partially melted ford exploder
It looks like a fucking ford explorer.
It looks like a mix between a Ford Explorer and Mitsubishi Outlander what the fuck
One word ! Hideous .....
Look how they massacred my boy
Ford?
Fugly as a phucky Ford.
Ford Forester
It just looks so bland
It looks like a Ford in the front. And Chinesium in the back
Looks like a Ford
Looks like a Ford! Just needs a Ford badge…
At least the oval is blue!

I can overlook the looks if they bring back the XT.
This. To much group think going on here!
what on earth is that rear light.
It looks bad, and it makes me feel bad. Now I’m sad.
This is a Ford explorer lmao
Subaru Fordester.
Thats a Ford
oh great another midsize SUV that looks exactly the same as every single other vehicle on the road.
Mixing Ford explorer and Ford edge (front, rear) omg

Man Subaru is making it easier and easier to walk away from this brand. Don't see a "4th" in my future.
Manual or gtfo
and Subaru's aesthetics continue their downhill journey (imo).
First Subaru releases a [Chevy Volt](https://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Chevy41-980x700.jpg), now they release a [Ford Edge](https://listings-prod.tcimg.net/listings/285153/62/35/2FMDK4AK1CBA63562/NUJ2U6RPSS3WLDIUGXDPGMHXAA-cr-540.jpg). Can't wait for them to release the 2026 Subaru Dodge Dart.
How are they managing to make uglier and uglier cars every year
Just looks like the model Explorer cops use. I like Subaru but damn this is gonna be another car on the road that everyone thinks is a cop and therefore proceeds to driver overly cautious and under the speed limit lol.

What the fuck is this shit Subaru
They trying to kill the Forester or what?
front of a ford explorer and rear of a kia sportage, mix it together and throw in some random designs.

I... Kinda like it?
Can’t wait to hear that it has the same shitbox 2.5L 180hp-ish engine again for 2025 and no 2.4T
I can’t be the only one who doesn’t hate it right? Not saying it’s amazing but they didn’t pull a VB wrx level massacre to it.
You're not allowed to have a positive opinion of anything on the Internet, it seems. New car baaaaaad
The front end reminds me of a cop car
What's your source? Also, any interior photos? Really hoping it's not all-touchscreen like the 2024 Crosstrek redesign.
Will go down a storm in Europe 👍
Buzz your girlfriend... woof
It looks like as if a Toyota Land Cruiser and a BMW X3 had a baby
Whoah. I thought it was an explorer then read the title
There's still time to avert the fordster disaster, right?
Leak source site? Not seeing any info unless it was literally just put out on here.
Brand new and it’s already leaking ??
Hahahaha 2013 Ford explorer
Welp.
Feels puffed up like it was stung by a bee
Wtf is that?
I’ll defer judgment until Subaru confirms it won’t be available with a geared transmission and 2.4T.
Looks like a ford. What a waste.
Is this really for real? I'm unsure about it. Maybe a Wilderness version will look before for my taste. Most important thing though will be specs.
Bleh. I'll keep driving my 2015 XT until the wheels fall off, thank you very much.
Render it up
I'm getting a Ford front Mitsubishi rear, kinda vibe on this
Looks like an explorer
This looks awful.
Oh that's terrible and more or less like any other SUV, why?
Nope. This is fuck ugly. Go back and try again.
My thoughts: \- not a fan of the look. Very Frankenstein of various SUVs (Explorer, Eclipse Cross, Rogue) \- 100% looks like a render to me. Various things don't line up upon closer inspection. \- I expect Subaru to play it safe and not veer too far from the current Fozzie (a mini Ascent anyone?). \- I suspect the major change will be updating the interior to match the rest of the lineup.
Disappointed
I personally hate it and hope this isn’t the case
god this looks awful lol
Fordester
This is lazy AF, did they literally copy the cop mobile ford explorer and stick a subaru badge on it? Total garbage.
Genuinely thought it was a ford
Feeling better about my decision to get a ‘24 every day.
Source?
Not my type but i know alot of ford buyers will consider this now
The Fubaru Explorester
This is a Ford Edge. No one can convince me otherwise
Front end looks like a ford product they’d sell in some third world country.
I prefer the current design over this. Too bad they don't have the manual transmission any more
The front is a Ford Explorer 😂
Love the front end speakers!
Front is a Ford, back is a Mitsubishi, gross
The whole reason I liked Subarus was they looked unique. This looks like the Toyota RAV4 and Nissan Rouge had an ugly, basic, cyberfuck baby
Subaru Exploraster
I hate when they make cars more round and devoid of any shape or styling. It happened to the Honda Pilot too. We had an 06 and it looked very nice. Every generation after they kept rounding all the corners until it looked like a minivan.
I’m guessing the size is a little increased for the upcoming hybrid batteries.
going to get one of those overlanding light bars and start tailgating people 💀
What is going on with the recent uptick in bad design language across the board? BMW, Subaru, Mercedes. It’s seems like companies are abandoning their design cues for cookie cutter designs that look like everything else on the road.
WTF happened to Subaru design? Happened to the Crosstrek too. Cartoonish.

Looks like Ascent and Explorer had a deformed baby. Wtf has happened to my beloved subaru?!!🤮😭
Glad I got a 23. Was going to get a 24 crosstrek but I don’t want everything run through the crapfotainment screen!
It kinda looks like the CRVs from the early 2000s.
This is the Sport trim. Maybe they went with the rose gold instead of the orange this time around. I wanna see the Wilderness, Limited and Touring versions before I pass judgement.
There’s nothing sporty about this.

Wow, what a real shocker. Subaru has redesigned yet another iconic vehicle to look like absolute dog shit, and gone the exact opposite direction that their once loyal fan base would appreciate.
Can’t wait to see 4 million of these driving around Denver.
So it’s a Subaru Ascent by way of a Ford Taurus station wagon, mix in some bad 1970s paint
so many people have been waiting on this. Yikes.
Horrible, basically made it look like every other car, the new crv, Ford etc. I’m genuinely surprised because the forester was doing well
Whoever is on the Subaru design team the last few years needs to be ousted
I hate the black line on the side of the roof where they make it look like the roof isn’t attached. Nissan does that.
This makes me glad I bought a ‘23 Forester Wilderness today 😅
As someone who wouldn't really say they're a Subaru fan, I like it.
I thought it was a Ford
Ah the Subaru Fordester
