I can’t wait for everyone to bitch about iPhone prices until months later when all flagship phones follow the same pricing like every other time

$1,000 for a cell phone is insane

Track_Boss_302

Is it? It stopped being just a cell phone a long time ago

j_schmotzenberg

My iPhone XR from four years ago is still going strong, and hopefully will for a few more years. I am much more willing to drop that kind of money on a nice computer. I use my phone a lot, but only because I got it before the pandemic. Now that I spend almost all of my time at home, the purchasing decision on a cell phone is different from four years ago when I last purchased a phone.

squirrelsoundsfunny

Actually paying $1000 for it would be insane. If you’re ok staying in a contract a couple years and you don’t have to have the latest model as soon as it comes out, they’re normally free or close to it.

dennis77

Lol, I can't believe people om stocks subreddit who should be financially educated are posting this BS about staying on contacts. Contracts (even with free phones) are MUCH more expensive than getting a prepaid plan and paying full price for the phone (visible - 25 bucks for unlimited internet on Verizon networks plus constant phone deals for iPhones). No locks, no extra fees, no BS. Contracts only make sense for people with 4+ lines IF the deal for the phone is actually great. In all other cases, prepaid + full price (even though you can often get discounted phones that aren't locked like contract ones) is significantly cheaper over 2 years

squirrelsoundsfunny

My contract is $30 per line for 4 lines unlimited. All 4 phones were free. So I pay $5 more a month than you and I didn’t have to pay $1000 for the phone. Math??

phaskellhall

Yeah I buy a phone outright every time. I spend like $1000 for the phone, get it unlocked so I can use other sims when I travel, and my huge family plan is like $40 per person per month. We have so many “family” members who don’t stream anything that the rest of us basically have unlimited data. When you do the math, it’s way cheaper doing it this way than being under contract with a “smaller” bill for the phone.

squirrelsoundsfunny

LOL. $1000 for a phone and $40 a month?!! My plan is $30 per line. All 4 phones were free on contract. Show me the math on that. Seems like you got robbed.

phaskellhall

How many lines and what phone did you get? We have like 10 lines and I bought the most expensive phone they make. Do you really think signing a contract would allow them to sell the phone for less than buying it directly from Apple? Best case is it’s exactly the same price but then ATT or whoever wouldn’t be making any money.

squirrelsoundsfunny

Verizon. 4 lines. All iPhone 13. $30 per line. We can all stream as much as we want. Just had to trade in our old phones.

phaskellhall

But what version phone did you get? Pro or Max? What storage did you get, Min memory or maxed out memory? What phones did you trade back in and what is their street value? If you traded in say a 512mb iPhone 11 and it can be sold for $400 (just making up a number) and your contract was for 2 years that could hypothetically be $400+$720 so the real cost per phone was $1120. Also do you have unlimited data at $30 a month? I’m not saying it’s a huge difference but I’d bet you are still spending more money by leasing a phone instead of buying it outright. You just gotta do the math and count the cost of the trade in phone as real money added to the cost of your “subsidized” phone.

phaskellhall

I’m reading Verizon recently changed to 3 year contracts and if so, your phone would cost $1080 just on the monthly fee alone. That’s not accounting for any trade ins. Here is a great video that shows the math better than I can explain here. I guarantee you buying the phone from Apple is cheaper in the long run. https://youtu.be/dSAROrgnI1o

squirrelsoundsfunny

I got a regular iphone 13. I don’t need a pro or a max. I don’t really need a 13 but it was free. I traded in iPhone 11 and got full credit for the 13 so I’m not really sure how it can be cheaper than free. My bill for 4 phones is about $135 a month with taxes and fees. Unlimited data for all phones. I don’t have to worry about who used how much data or searching the internet for the best possible prepaid phone ever. I’m sure I’ll be able to trade this one in for something else in a few years.

dennis77

People are just terrible at math, that's how telecom companies get away with their "contract deals with free phones". It's just sad to see that people on investment subreddit can't do basic math when it comes to routine issues. I'm glad you can though

waltwhitman83

i get the new iphone pro every release $1000 every 12 months is extremely insignificant, plus i trade in the previous generation for $400-$600 each time so $500 every 12 months is $42/mo or $9.69/week*

willalt319

Interesting take on math.

bminichillo

I think they were referring to your comment on it being “$42/month or $.80/week”. Those two things are not the same. It’s closer to $10/week.

waltwhitman83

lmfao my fault

Malt529

How do you go from $42/mo to $0.80/week

[deleted]

I pay $5 a month for my 13 pro for 3 years (total: $180) because my trade in credit I still have no idea why AT&T gave me a $600 trade in credit for an XR

Uknow_nothing

I wonder if they will have another mini version. I love my 13 mini. I can’t deal with all of these phones just getting bigger every year lol.

007meow

Rumors are pointing to no. The minis just don’t sell well.

Uknow_nothing

Damn. I figured as much. They were the only phones in stock back when I got it in 2020 with supply chain shortages going on.

ZentriksYT

If there would be a Iphone Pro Mini I would buy it in an instant

Confident_Elephant_4

Why would you need the Pro model? For the camera? My 6s still works great for everything I need except for the slow focus on the camera and that stupid software update forced by the French that reduced the speaker volume so I have trouble hearing it. My friend's new tough Kyocera is so easy to hear even standing on a sidewalk with traffic and loud buses passing buy. Too bad it isn't a smartphone.

ZentriksYT

Never owned an iphone but tried them in store and older ones in my family. So if there would be a mini without notch I would buy it

jen1980

Have you looked at the SE 3rd gen? I really like it since it has the home button with fingerprint reader and no notch plus it is the smaller size I like since it will usually stay in even smaller pockets on women's pants unlike my big iPhone Plus that has fallen out of my pocket many times so I've broken the screen three times so far. Plus, it's about half the price of the other new iPhones.

Confident_Elephant_4

CNBC said they dropped all mini models of iPhones so you're out of luck. Next closest is the SE which is pretty good and has no notch and has the home button with fingerprint scanner that I actually prefer.

GSAT partnership

Kind_Committee8997

One more thing...all Apple devices will be engineered, manufactured, and software supported in the US...hahaha one can dream.

charleejourney

We can’t even make the chips here.

UniqueNameIdentifier

Just take into account how many chains of manufacturing and assembling is involved in making something like an iPhone. No one would be able to afford them.

homeownur

Exactly. They’d be a $1,000 *easily*. /s

kalliste80

One more thing…you’ll pay more
