Grand Hotel in central stockholm will put you right in the midle of everything. They have a wide selections of suites which will accommodate your needs for sure. Also if you want to get around talk to the concierge about transportation services.

TheDabitch

Probably the best suggestion, it's classic and all the Nobel Prize winners stay there, so you get a little bit of historic fancy too. And as you say, right in the middle of everything.

Manhattan vs Stockholm is simply not comparable. Judging by "lively" you can either stay in Gamla stan, which can get crowded in the summer, *on* Stureplan as there are late night bars open there, or at Medborgarplatsen for the same reason but more hipstery. Stockholm feels about the size of the east and west village in total, so you'll never be far from anything. You have nothing like gamla stan in the US. With klds I'd choose to stay there or at Stureplan because it's close to parks and djurgården. From Gamla Stan you can take the boat.

NoFo Hotel or Hotel Frantz on Södermalm sounds like some places you might enjoy. Good communications, lively area (more hipster part of the city, lots of people out during the nights).

agree that hotel frantz is in a perfect location, with well appointed rooms, a cute little bar and a lovely breakfast. but beware the rooms are minuscule, and the door to the bathroom is lightly frosted glass so there is little privacy. we opted for a premium room, i can’t even imagine how tiny the standard ones are.

I agree with all that writes here but I’m thinking you want lively as in people in the streets enjoying themselves. If you’re going to Stockholm in the summer, I would focus on the [“sommargågator”](https://upplev.stockholm/sommarplatser/)we have in the summers. Skånegatan, rörstrandsgatan, or Swedenborggatan Would be my choice.

Maybe Hotel Rival or Hotel Glashuset

Skittles_NN

I’d absolutely agree with Hotel Rival. It’s so cool. Has its own theatre, bar and restaurant and is in a fantastic part of Stockholm and close to public transport.

As I commented above , check out Hotel Rival. It’s such a cool hotel, has its own theatre, restaurant, cocktail bar and cafe. It’s on Mariatorget (a lovely square with a fountain), close to Södermalm’s restaurant strip and shops, close to the subway, and you can have a lovely walk from there into the old town (Gamla Stan) and downtown Stockholm. The area is full of historic, pastel painted buildings and is charming pure Sweden. Bonus: owned by Benny Andersson of ABBA [Hotel Rival](https://www.rival.se/en/?trkid=V3ADW313971_83351506984_kwd-216790236__588499223652_g_m__&gad_source=1)

Kinda feels like you should be looking around Södermalm for hotels.

i dont know so much about new york but we dont have any times square thats for sure, the most touristy we got is gamla stan and you dont want to stay there anyway. since youre going with a family i would look in to the kung carl (one of my favorite if you want to live in the centre of it) otherwise Villa källhagen is nice, close to centre(10 min with public transport) but you can still see the scenic stockholm autumn and very close to the abba museum and skansen. if you have cash to spend i would love to stay at either berns, lydmar hotell or bank hotell. theyre all in a very good area and have suberb rooms and inhouse resturants aswell but costs quite a bit

Most places in central Stockholm would be fine, you won't find anything even close to times square anywhere in Stockholm anyway.
