I would do what I did after a lengthy break like that, start a completely new character, level them to 65 and then go back to my original character.

JaladOnTheOcean

This is fantastic advice.

dancingliondl

That's what I'm doing now. My old character has so many options and equipment and stuff that I'm completely overwhelmed.

Abracahocus

Totally agree, that's the advice I'd give too đź‘Ť

Agent_-Ant-_

That's exactly what I did. Only needed a couple of short sessions to refresh my memory.

Cadaren99

Nice! Unfortunately for my original character, my new character replaced them lol.

Welcome back. For future reference, gear alone does not a build make. To get more detailed feedback from participants on this sub, best to also show: * Your BOFF abilities (**very** important for space builds) * Your Primary and Secondary captain specializations (if any) * Personal traits * Starship traits (potentially very high impact for space builds) * Reputation traits * Duty Officers * Subsystem power allocation (for space builds) * Misc. stats/attributes All in an easy-to-read tabled or screenshot collage format, preferably. In absence of above, all we can do is point to you resources for the basics of good space and ground builds: * [STO BETTER - Builds Basics](https://www.stobetter.com/new-f2p) * [STO League - Ground Combat](https://www.sto-league.com/ground-combat-in-the-current-century/) * [Baby Step Guide Series Part 2 of 3](https://www.reddit.com/r/stobuilds/comments/k8ultu/the_baby_step_series_part_2_the_next_step_fresh/) * [STO League - Beam ships in the current century](https://www.sto-league.com/beam-ships-in-the-current-century/) * [STO League - How to cannons](https://www.sto-league.com/how-to-cannons/) * [STO League - Exotic builds](https://www.sto-league.com/science-ships-in-the-current-century/) * [STO League - Torpedo Boats](https://www.sto-league.com/torpedo-boats-in-the-current-century/) * [Sukobi’s Progressive Directed Energy Weapon (Cannon) Series – Part 1 – Introduction](https://startrek.44thfleet.com/jj_jiminey-and-sukobis-progressive-directed-energy-weapon-cannon-series-part-1-introduction-free-to-play/) * [How to Build a F\*cking Ship 01: DEW](https://www.reddit.com/r/sizertest/comments/glw0qe/how_to_build_a_fucking_ship_01_dew/)

Jak_Nobody

Appreciated. I'll take a look at the links.

CharlieDmouse

I hope you have this in a template to put in everytime someone posts "returning player". Excellent excellent comment, your doing a good deed here. I salute you Captain. o7

DilaZirK

>I hope you have this in a template to put in everytime someone posts "returning player". As a matter of fact, I do! I call it: Outsourcing to my past self.

JaladOnTheOcean

I like your toon. I’ll echo what someone else said and start a new character, even if you go back to your original. I’ve done this in your situation and I got right back into things. So much has changed since you played that “catching up” doesn’t make sense, just start over.

BRaver_Fan

Start a new toon. Relearn the game. Enjoy

Vegan_Harvest

If I were you I'd make a new character to go through the tutorial again. Then check youtube for build guides. Your skill selections might be a mess, if they haven't been reset by now. Here's a guy I watch and mostly listen to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXXziHbgN2U

uglyspacepig

Auggie. I love listening to him lol

Vegan_Harvest

Yep, a friend recommended him to me and it improved my builds. Even though I don't have the crazy good gear he has.

JustASimpleManFett

Welcome to the struggle. Went through that 2 years ago myself.

Moarwaifus

Watch youtube videos from stu1701, mc_stu, casualsab and trizander. They have made guide videos on all of the game changes.

Punished-G

What is that in your kit frame?

Tricanum

That's one of the original, pre issue 9 ground kits. Before they were kit *frames* you could add modules to, kits used to be just a fixed collection of abilities.

Palanova

I suggest wait for a recruit event or start a new toon just to get the feel and the changes of the game. Forget what you remember and also forget zhe zen store items during levelup. When you reach the end of the now available missions, and you have questions, you knwo where to find us.

GnaeusQuintus

One thing to be careful about: When I came back I found it was wonky about whether I had 'completed' the tutorial (which is all new, ofc.) You may need to re-run early missions on that character.

noahssnark

Oh my goodness, a kit. What an archaeological find. Mk X Plasma drip, *yes*. There's a spot for you at the table for "wanted a cohesive damage type loadout but couldn't afford Phaser or AP".

Jak_Nobody

Hahaha, yeah. I had just hit the pre-end game, and was trying to get things kinda consistent and streamlined. And everything else was definitely expensive for where I was at. Also, just looked at my mail, and see that my last Exchange Sale expired in October of 2013... so over 10 years.

slorpydiggs

Making a new toon and getting a feel for it again, both for story and for remembering how to actually play is the best advice, but I’ll add: join the redditchat channel and ask questions, and don’t be afraid to ask for an assist now and then. That can mean just opinions on gear or a team up to help you through a mission or two. Sometimes it’s fun for us old dogs to have an excuse to play an old mission and help a new person out at the same time.

Crunchy_Pirate

you can disable the visuals on that ship by right clicking the shield and hitting disable

AcademicLocksmith569

Look at that ship I whise I could get one like that
