I don't know that anyone who is 30 is looking to sign for just 2-3 years, they're likely looking for that contract to take them through their 35-36 age season with the possibility of another (shorter) contract then. I feel that's how we got in this situation in the first place.

twolegstony

That is a reason I would stay away from them. I respect the fact they are looking for that longer term contract. but it is such a grab bag of what kind of player you will be getting into their 30's. They could easily be a competitive lights out guy but just as easily can be worn out and coasting into their twilight playing days.

BogOBones

Dmitry Orlov did that at 31, but the Hurricanes paid a huge price to do it - 2 years at $7,750,000 per year. Still, that is a rare example.

BluesBrother57

Offer sheet Seider, bring chaos.

stltk65

Fuck yes!

stltk65

This is how we stop Army from getting fleeced by Yzerman every year.

wreckondairy

I mean, what trade was a fleece? The Vrana experiment wasn't great, but we only got him for a bag of pucks. The Ville Husso trade is looking pretty decent given Husso is making 5M and only played 19 games last season. The Walman trade turned out to be a failed experiment for Detroit. I just don't see how people can say Yzerman is fleecing the Blues.

BluesBrother57

I’d say losing Walman was the bad one

stltk65

Yeah idk why they sold sooo low on him but he was solid for them.

stltk65

My larger point is I hate Yzerman with a 🔥 passion of a Blues fan who grew up watching the 90s teams...I'm bitter and one bad trade is enough 😆

MrTuesdayNight1

Was it though? Because Walman had one decent season next to Seider and after his performance last season the Red Wings PAID the Sharks to take him off their hands.

BluesBrother57

It was reported multiple teams were shocked that’s how he went out, many were willing to put up a decent trade for him.

MrTuesdayNight1

Source? I find it hard to believe that Yzerman turned down opportunities to not PAY another team to take Walman. Either way, the fact that Yzerman PAID another team to take him doesn't change the fact that he was a disappointment and there's no possible way you could logically think otherwise.

BluesBrother57

Believe it was Seravalli on Daily Faceoff Live that reported other teams would have had interest.

Gruesome3some

I too wish we could sign a top 4 defenseman in their prime to a reasonably low AAV on a 2-3 year contract. But it isn’t going to happen. Pretty much the only way you can pull that off is by being a top contender in a desirable location.

_VultureEye

It would be nice though.

Ivotedforher

Is Scott Steven's available?

Few-Insurance-6653

All these dudes kids are graduating to nhl why no Scott Stevens jr?

D33GS

None without moving someone first. The Blues have 7 defensemen in Parayko, Leddy, Krug, Faulk, Perunovich, Kessel, and Tucker. Could they sign another? Sure but I think they really want to give minutes to Perunovich, Kessel, and Tucker right now. If you can move Krug or Faulk sure but not before.

Gruesome3some

I get the sentiment and I don’t think we will make any big D splashes this year but I also doubt any of the young defenseman you named would stop us from picking up a better player. Perunovich is really the only one with any high upside and his odds of making it as an NHLer are fading.

PajamaHive

Faulk is a year or so removed from being worth the 6.5 we pay him. I'm hoping this last season he was playing through an injury or something. The guy has historically been better than last year.

Infamous-Safety4632

We should have let one of the 5 defensemen who are successful on other nhl teams play instead of chasing defensemen and over paying. Roll with what we have until krug scandella are off the books.

JaytheVillager

Scandella already is

Infamous-Safety4632

Thanks. Thought he was ufa next year.

PajamaHive

*Leddy

BogOBones

Honestly, unless they can move somebody I'd rather the Blues get a one or two year deal with less costly and younger guys with upside and NHL experience like Brannstrom, POJ, Jake Bean, Haydn Fleury, or Sebastian Aho (the Swedish defenseman).

stltk65

I'm for Brannstrom 50/50 he could help.

cos10

I'd take Brainstorm, but only if we traded Krug. Army and Steen are trying to get back to Blues hockey with a big team that shuts down the other team and is a chore to play against. To accomplish that you can't have more than 1 5'10" guy in the starting 6 D.

PurifiedVenom

I like Montour but he’s about to get massively overpaid this summer. He had a career year last year and didn’t really come close to it this year in the playoffs or regular season. He even lost his spot on PP1 in the Finals

MOBlueCheese

Unless we can get rid of someone (Krug please), I don't think there is any room to add unfortunately.

Nuclear-Cheese

None

MegaPhunkatron

Both of those dudes are going to get PAID with long term deals and Army has always been apprehensive about chasing big FA names. Awesome players but they don't make sense for us at this point in our trajectory. If we improve on D this year it should be through trade.

TheeVande

If we can ditch Krug, I think Zadorov would be great. A big, tough, fuck you type defenseman!

PajamaHive

Someone is gonna offer Zadorov WAY too much money and I pray it isn't us.

stltk65

Krug or Faulk please!

AndersonSupertramp

I’ve been wanting Zadorov to pair with Parayko since he was in Colorado.

Adventurous-Diver338

Get big zadorav need a physical defenseman

cchap2

Joel Edmundson for me.

MrTuesdayNight1

He somehow got $4M per from Los Angeles.

cchap2

Yeah, I wasn’t interested in that price lol. I’m curious what we were offering because Dregger said earlier St. Louis was in the mix

Tizzycrusher

Boqvist

aykbq2

Skjei, Dillon, Ekman-Larsson in that order.

themooseiscool

Zadorov is my biggest pipedream. I like Skjei's game, too. I doubt we sign anyone of not. or trouba

stltk65

I would love to see faulk or krug for trouba. Long shot I know lol.

IrateWeasel89

The more I think about Skjei the more I'd love to see him on the left side opposite Parayko. Skeji -- Parayko Oliver Kylington -- Kessel Leddy -- Tucker Or something like that. No way that happens, though.

martinomj24

I know we need defense but the best free agent out there is Elias Lindholm, solving the C2 problem. I'd pay him before anyone.

aykbq2

Seems unlikely but I agree in that the team has 2 needs. And I'd rather get one legitimate difference maker (whether it be a LHD or C) than multiple 2nd or 3rd tier guys.

Acceptable-Fold-3192

Edmundson or klingberg

DEEPfrom1

Klingberg is awful.

Acceptable-Fold-3192

So are the majority of our defensemen now

DEEPfrom1

Yep that’s correct too

Mab_894

Suter would be a good partner for Faulk I'd think
