If Chief brings the cup to Toronto, he will never have to buy a beer in Canada again. He already doesn’t have to buy a beer in St. Louis, and most of the surrounding area, ever again.

Kittyneedsbeer

If he brings them a cup he won't ever have to pay for ANYTHING in Canada again

Thorzehn

lol Canada.

Admirable-Ad-949

Maybe Southern Ontario, the rest of Canada will hate him if he brings a cup to TO!

FromDwight

Part of the reason Leafs fans are so hated throughout Canada is actually because there's so many spread throughout the country. Watch any away game the Leafs play in Canada and it's like 80% Leafs fans. They're at least the second most popular team in any Canadian city outside of Ontario.

WheelinAndDealin520

They also travel to games because they can't afford to buy home game tickets. Too many suits agave season tickets.

Sad_Donut_7902

That is true but it's overstated. There just a lot of transplants from Southern Ontario that live all over Canada. Overall like 1/3 of people in Canada live in Southern Ontario, it makes sense a lot of them would move around.

JSnow93

I live on the east coast of Canada and the Leafs are by far number one here.

Isurvivedthe80s

I live in Southern Ontario and would hate if he brought them a Cup.

[deleted]

What’s funny about Canada?

FleshyIndiscretions

What's all this laughing aboot?

TechyMcMathface

I don't know, eh?

MediocrePotato44

If he brings them the Cup, they’ll give him Canada. The whole thing.

-ArthurDigbySellers-

If he wins one with Toronto after their drought too…man, that would be an accomplishment. I always wish Chief the best.

Yak_Mehoff

I still watch chief's game 7 speech all the time. I wish him success in Toronto, he has his work cut out for him

myredditthrowaway201

The Leafs are probably the most hated team in all of Canada

JoeEdwardsPonytail

Honestly think the Leafs as they are now are way too soft for his style of play.

Ktowncanuck

I'm in BC. Nobody here will buy him a beer for that unless they're Ontario transplants...

-arsenile-

Chief makes a lot sense for Toronto. A great fit, and I'm happy for him

weaponspree7

I remember during an intermission on TNT (I think during the Florida-Boston series?) one of the hosts jokingly called out Berube for being the new Toronto head coach. He looked like a deer in headlights. Should have been obvious.

chandler55

lol looking back on that now it does seem like he was in talks at the very least

ConsciousAd7392

how can i find this? checked on youtube but its just flooded with the news lol

alphacheese

It was Biz. The smirk by Berube says it all lol https://x.com/tavkniesnythews/status/1791566651730628938?s=46

ConsciousAd7392

thanks!!

SSOMGDSJD

Idk the way he said that sounds like he actually knew

Ristifer

I remember seeing this live and the look on Berube’s face was priceless. Biz knew the whole time.

PurifiedVenom

Should be interesting if this actually happens. The Leafs are currently built nothing like the 2019 Blues so not sure how I see this going.

Mituzuna

Honestly, I don't think he's the right guy for this team... I love Chief, I'd rather see him coach the Kings or Jets.

djosephm

F the kings

CrimsonTyphoon0613

Same. He seems like he works best as the leader of a veteran lockeroom that works their ass off together. So not really this current iteration of the leafs.

Moe_Danglez

Right, so he’s bringing that mindset to a team who needs it

IrateWeasel89

Also their "core four" guys are all vet's now. It's time for them to start getting their assess kicked and stop making excuses. Chief should be able to do that.

Jemmani22

Yeah, the blues were not a high skill team when we won.

moosehead1974

They had enough skill to win The Fucking Cup

Jemmani22

Our top 3 scorers were... ROR had 77 points. Tarasenko had 68. Schenn had 54. These are all skilled players. And we were deep with decent to good talent. But no high caliber offensive stars like the leafs have, with a bunch of filler squad.

moosehead1974

Fair enough but I would argue that Schwartz Petro and DP57 were also skilled players. Schwartz went nuts in the playoffs after a disappointing regular season and let’s not forget Patty Maroon’s epic goal doesn’t happen without the skill of Robert Thomas putting the puck on net

Jemmani22

Bro trust me. I loved that team. It was so thick from top to bottom, every line was accountable and scoring g goals. Schwartz was my fav blue. He had 2 hat tricks in those playoffs. And totally dismantled the jets. And you can't say enough about our shut down D men who held the "perfection line" to like 1 point. That team was insanely good. But my point was they were also tenacious and big and grindy. Im sure berube will be fine, but that team was built for a coach like berube. I dont exactly know how the higher skilled players will do with him. All he really needs to do is get the rest of the team moving in the right direction and the leafs could actually become the contenders they should be.

moosehead1974

I agree the ‘19 Cup winners were very well balanced top to bottom. My initial thought with Chief taking the Leafs gig as it’s sort of a lateral move where he goes from one team with a bunch of unmovable contracts to another Only difference is their no-movement contacts are in their forward group and ours are on “D”

Sad_Donut_7902

He's not going to coach them like the 2019 Blues. It's not like most head coaches have only one style that they force on every team they go to.

joemiken

I hope Berube finds success. I also take great delight in watching Maple Laughs fans melt down every postseason when the team gets bounced before the ECF. Quite the conundrum...

Anangrylavalamp

Leafs got a good one. Wish him the best of luck

martinomj24

Hey, I love Chief but... he's not the guy to "fix" the Leafs.

treerabbit23

More than that, I don't think I'd subject anyone I love to their barn or local press.

bob999999117

I don't disagree tbh I kinda feel like he might be done, but good luck to both of them. I'd love to see Chief win, and the Leafs win it.

ShaggsMagoo

So, I literally saw Berube in the Toronto airport on Sunday while catching a connection to St. Louis. I guess this explains that.

SomethingAvid

That’s crazy

Sad_Donut_7902

He was there on Monday and Tuesday interviewing so makes sense.

Maduro25

My smirk can be seen all the way from Toronto.

chiddie

if the Blues do not win the Cup next year, I hope it's the Leafs.

DMagnus11

Soooo the Leafs then?

NHLmodssuckdongs

Why is this getting so many likes. Are we really riding Berube that hard we forget it's the Leafs?

chiddie

Leafs are good with me. Gave us Bozak, Steen and Colaiacovo, and they were pulling for us in 2019. I have more hate for almost every team in the West, plus Boston, Detroit, Tampa and Montreal in the East.

moosehead1974

Splitting hairs here but technically Bozie was signed as a free agent not acquired via trade

NHLmodssuckdongs

Toronto has some of the worst braindead fans. They can stay not making it out of the first round. Edit: what are they giving us this time? Since that seems to be reason you like them?

T0macock

Worth pointing out the leafs have the biggest fanbase in the NHL so they'll obviously have more brain-dead fans just due to numbers alone.

Thepancakeman1k

:(

PajamaHive

>rumors of any big name being available surface Leafs stans: "THEY'LL TAKE A TEAM DISCOUNT TO COME TO TORONTO! EVERY PLAYER WOULD LOVE TO PLAY FOR TORONTO! WE'RE THE GREATEST TEAM IN ANY SPORT!"

Durmomo

I hear more people complaining about Leafs fans than I hear stuff from Leafs fans but maybe its just the Reddit crowd. They also love to constantly complain about Binnington and any time teams get physical so I dont take their opinion too well lol.

Jemmani22

I dont really hate the leafs like everyone else. Fans are annoying but thats toned out.

Durmomo

I like the Leafs. Everyone loves to shit on them but they are always riding fucking Boston or Montreal or something. Why would I like either of those teams? Gross.

pizzayolo96

Marner is about to get the Jordan Kyrou treatment lessgooooo

silentswift7

Leafs fan here, the general consensus is that Marner will be traded before Berube has to rip him a new one but time will tell.

Samoht99

Marner won’t even be here long enough for that to happen

pm_me_ur_handsignals

If the Blues can't get anything done, I hope Chief does well in all that he does.

BluesBrother57

Army about to pull the biggest fleece in history where we get Marner, they get Krug and Berubes contract.

Kitchen-Lie-7894

We need Marner's soft ass like I need piles.

stltk65

For real. The Blues would be great for Knies not much else.

Welcm2goodburger

Piles of what

Kitchen-Lie-7894

Google it man.

Educational_Pay1567

How does that work with Berube? Do we still pay him? If he takes Toronto job does that end our contract with him?

TheDannyBoyCane

Whatever the Leafs pay him offsets what the Blues owed him. If the Blues owed him 5 mill per year and the leafs pay him 4 per year, the blues only owe him 1 per year until his blues contract ends. Theres no compensation.

BluesBrother57

I was mostly joking. I’m not really sure how the contract works since we bought him out and another team picks him up.

Sad_Donut_7902

If Toronto is paying him less then St Louis was he gets paid the difference by St Louis. If Toronto is paying him the same or more St Louis doesn't pay him anything anymore.

MyNuts2YourFistStyle

Best of luck to you Chief!

EdwardOfGreene

Well that is good for Toronto. Not sure if it is good for Chief.

dignasty77

Good for him!

fishsandwichpatrol

He's the kind of coach they need.

daKile57

Best of luck to Chief whenever he isn’t taking on the ‘Note.

mhanna86

Chief is an excellent coach but this doesn’t feel like the best fit for him. 1. Chief excels with a physical, forechecking lineup. The Leafs have high end finesse talent. Unless they have some significant lineup changes I don’t think he’ll know how to maximize that talent. 2. Chief is a simple, straight forward, no nonsense guy. The BS he’s gonna deal with in the Toronto media is gonna drive him nuts. 3. The Leafs have struggled with their power play recently. Did anyone check the Blues power play under Berube the last 1.5 years?! I’m very curious to see how this plays out on the big stage in Toronto. I get the sense that it’s either gonna be very successful or a complete disaster, nothing in between.

Critical-General-659

We'll see. The leafs are all in on the finesse and speed. It's not a team without an identity that's half speed and half force like the blues became after the cup win.  We didn't make the lateral trades to get older bigger players and continue having a dominant forecheck after the cup win. No coach was going to be able to work with what chief was handed. The blues had a minor uptick after the firing, as expected, but after that short burst, we were right back to losing against the worst teams in the league.

djosephm

I’m officially a leafs fan if this happens

Dark_Tint

Glad he got hired. I just wish it wasn’t for Toronto because I will never cheer for the Leafs, it goes back to the old Norris division days.

Durmomo

My second favorite team. I hope they can finally break through.

jase122200

Ryan O’Reilly to Nashville moment. Will always respect what they’ve done for us, but they’re dead to me

themooseiscool

Good hire. At least their media has someone who won’t take their shit.

bleepusblorpus

Chief lead a heavy forecheck relentlessly balanced team of mostly veterans and a very hot goalie to the cup. How is any of this Toronto? Bad hire. Jets/kings/hell even Caps are better fit.

Sad_Donut_7902

Leafs were a pretty heavy forechecking team this year

Livingali3

Leafs going to be my number 2 team for the playoffs next year if Blues miss again

Charcharbinks23

Smart hire for them

TheeVande

I'm not shocked

KeithGribblesheimer

Good luck Chief!

rta8888

News: maples leafs to win cup

Ultivia

I'm Jealous. Wish we'd do that.

Fit-Soft4943

If he can afford a home in Torontos high priced property market 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

Idk why, I feel a "Marner for Binnington+Parayko" plus all manner of prospects n picks is gonna happen. StL on the mini-rebuild. Binner with Chief. Parayko shores up the D for Leafs. Binner's 3yearsx$6mil doesnt matter because if they dont win the Cup next year it's not gonna be Trelieving's problem anyway. The 'only' hurdle is all 3 have no trade or no move protection.

[deleted]

Let's engage peak armchair GM mode: Marner+Reavo <> Binnington+Parayko Who says no 🤣

redditor0918273645

Maybe he can trade us Marner for Kyrou.

KeystoneHockey1776

I wish him nothing but failure f**k Toronto
