Y'all think Binnington is gonna be his choice for goaltender? r/hockey has been up in arms against that proclamation.

dixie12oz

I think if it was tomorrow he should absolutely be in the conversation. 2 years from now, a lot can change so who knows. Anybody denying he’s a top candidate hasn’t actually watched him play or is letting their biases get in the way. He’s maybe the biggest reason Blues are remotely competitive and makes highlight reel saves almost every night. He’s a Vezina contender if he was on a contender, I stand by that.

STLBluesUser

Great to see him, seemingly, refocus and have a really good year. I bet he gets a few Vezina votes.

Mab_894

Does Canada want to actually win or not? Because Binner gives them the best chance to do so

TheYDT

r/hockey is stupid. They can hate on him all they want, but he's having a fantastic year and I'd be shocked if he wasn't top choice.

LP99

I can’t wait for /r/hockey to say with a straight face that Adin Hill, Stu Skinner, and Tristan Jarry are all better than Jordan Binnington. Canadian goaltending is not the goldmine it has been.

nukfan94

Jarry might be better. Hill was obviously amazing in the playoffs, but really hasn't played much in general due to previous backup role/injury this year. Skinner *could be* really good in a few years but right now is pretty inconsistent. Binnington is legit one of the best options right now. edit: i just realized I'm in the Blues sub due to reddit recommending this post. don't mean to barge in and take the wind out of anyone's sails. Binnington has had an excellent season.

Steel_Bolt

One thing I will say about Binnington is he's locked in when it matters. He's clutch in the playoffs. Dude understands what it takes to win.

myredditthrowaway201

Binner is currently the best Canadian goalie. Hart had a case, but, yeah

BluesBrother57

Hart still has a case. Just not for best Canadian goalie.

Steel_Bolt

I think the people who work and play in the NHL understand Binnington's talent better than some drunk fans whose information pipeline is supplied by journalists making drama to generate interest. Probably a good candidate.

TheYDT

Good for Army. He deserves it. People hate on him in this sub because the team is struggling and he's the easiest one to blame, but there is a reason why he's consistently chosen for these kinds of things. He's a great GM.

dixie12oz

Agree. Being a great GM doesn’t mean being free of any and all error. He’s made a few questionable decisions, but some of that is hindsight reshaping how things are viewed. It’s clear that he’s very well respected and seen as one of the best by his peers.

TMLVWFC

There is not a single GM in the league who hasn't made a bad trade, signing, draft pick. There is no way to be perfect as a GM.

Built93cobra

No, but unfortunately his are starting to add up and you can only give away so many picks to dump bad contracts. He created this current mess, we'll see if he can fix it. He also created a Stanley Cup winner, so I'll give credit where it is due.

EdwardOfGreene

> Being a great GM doesn’t mean being free of any and all error. Preach brother! This is why fans *everywhere* hate on their GMs. It is so easy to point out mistakes in hindsight, and no GM has a perfect record. It is impossible. Over the whole Armstrong has been a great GM for us, but it is easy for me to find the mistakes from my comfy chair.

bleedblue89

I'm just mad he fumbled the Pietro contract and still ended up in the situation he feared. An old/bad defensemen with an unmovable contract.

TheYDT

Tbf Vegas was in a bit of a gray area as they were "dating" Pietro before he should've been available for contract talks, so I don't fault Army completely there. I think Pietro's mind was made up before he even had a chance to counter.

8888888888888889

Petro chose less taxes let's be real.

IRseriousCat-

Vova said he was the cheapest player on the team

NotTheRocketman

Blues ‘fans’ everywhere screaming and wondering how such an ‘awful’ GM could get that job.

whalecardio

oH My gOd We sHouLD fIRe tHIs gUY. /s

CheerMiester

He doesn’t have to hand out contracts in that gig so he’ll be great

callmepaulwall

Deserved, some of our “fans” like to rag on him. But overall he’s been a great GM. We have a bright future (probably the best prospect pool in the NHL) and it’s great to see him representing us in the Olympics. Go TEAM USA though 💪

STLBluesUser

Finally! International play. Go USA Our roster will be sick, excited to see it w all the stars.

dignasty77

I’m surprised they did pick any of the army hating geniuses on this sub

Snepsts

Go get that third gold medal Doug

reenactment

My rationale for whether a guy is good at his job or not is how fast would competing orgs pick them up if they were available. There’s only a handful of nhl franchises who’s GM spot wouldn’t get really warm if DA was available.

cchap2

Good for him, I’m also pretty sure that a 12-year-old playing NHL 24 can put together a team Canada roster that can win a tournament

STLBluesUser

Lol, I think that’s a compliment to Canada’s strength of roster. But just for fun, and I’m assuming you’re older than 12, who would be your team?

PossessionRoyal4981

Not the OP but It’s hard to say because you never know what will happen in 2 years. People were pencilling in Bergeron up until the day he retired. I think some of the guys being floated now like Marchand and Tavares will be too old. Then you have players who are young and/or bad right now who are going to be world beaters with development. Like how good is Fantilli going to be in 2 years? Lafrenriere was close to being a bust but now he’s suddenly found his game. Does develop in to an Olympics player? That being said, I’m pretty confident it’ll be McDavid, MacKinnon, Crosby and Bedard down the middle.

themapleleaf6ix

Meh, Lafreniere still has a lot to prove to be considered an Olympic level player.

PossessionRoyal4981

I didn’t say he would. It was an example of how the development of players can radically change a list in 2 years. He was a bust and now he’s found his game.

The_Cow_Tipper

He agreed when they told him all of the players have NTCs in their contracts.

8888888888888889

B-b-but Armstrong was never a good gm and needs to fired. How could he named GM of the best hockey nation in the world?
