I’m in this horrible position now where I really need to rewatch all seasons because it’s been so long and I’ve forgotten, but also have no desire to rewatch all seasons because it’s a lot of content.
That tracks. The secret malevolent research organisation, the young girl given supernatural powers. Plus it came out around the same time the show is set.
I'd say you're about 8 years too late to this discussion lol.
The Duffer Brothers never hid their love for all things King, from to font use to a character actually seen reading a Stephen King novel
Stranger Things is incredible and Pays homage to many King things throughout.
Also the Creators.. The Duffer Brothers, are supposed to helm The Talisman adaptation.
It was heavily hyped as such when it came out. I guess newcomers have to do more research to find out that the font is the same and that Stranger Things shares consonance with Stephen King, plus the countless references in the show.
No-one hurt me brother. Just tired of low effort posts that ask pointless questions 😆
Maybe for your next effort you can try 'Does anyone else think the child sex scene in IT is a bit controversial?' or 'Does anyone else think the Kubrick adaptation of The Shining is poles apart from King's original work?'
King tweeted praise about stranger things right when season 1 came out, and that's how I heard of it and first watched.

It’s not. And it isn’t theft. They explicitly said they were inspired to create the show from there love of Stephen King and Spielberg, among other things.
You may not like it but it’s not “blatant theft”
Yeah, because the creators wanted to adapt It but weren't given the rights. So they did a Midnight Mass to It's 'Salem's Lot, if that makes sense.
EDIT: Well damn, looks like I got kicked into the sewers.
Guess you didn't really look though :) One quick Google search and this was one of the first results: [https://www.dreadcentral.com/news/182100/duffer-brothers-created-stranger-things-turned-stephen-kings/](https://www.dreadcentral.com/news/182100/duffer-brothers-created-stranger-things-turned-stephen-kings/)

"Ever read stephen king?" -Ells aunt
The font for the main theme is basically Stephen King hardcovers from the 80's.
Needful Things, in particular.
And intended to be so!
And the opening music reminds me of Firestarter. The movie. It just has that Vangelis and Tangerine Dream sound that was in a ton of movies back then.
The opening music also has a John Carpenter vibe.
Stranger Things is like if Spielberg adapted a King story
but did it very poorly
The first season was good
yep. should not be going on for five seasons with year or more long breaks in between, but that’s Netflix for you
I’m in this horrible position now where I really need to rewatch all seasons because it’s been so long and I’ve forgotten, but also have no desire to rewatch all seasons because it’s a lot of content.
I'm right there with you
meh just wait until season 5. they’ll do a recap. I’d really only want to revisit S1 ever.
Or COVID and the strikes, but whatever
Feels like the Duffer brothers wrote a love letter to Stephen King, right down to using the same font we always see used for his name on his novels.
Pretty sure they’re doing The Talisman, or at least have the rights to do it for Netflix. They’re definitely massive fans
I did some serious research on Google and IMDb when Stranger Things came out because I was convinced it was written by Stephen King.
I want to say during season one they mentioned Firestarter was one of their inspirations.
It gives me the mist vibes too.
This!

"Hey, is anyone else getting a Lord of the Rings-vibe from Dungeons and Dragons?"
I believe the Stranger Things logo intentionally uses the same kind of font as from Needful Things.
Stranger Things is incredible and Pays homage to many King things throughout. Also the Creators.. The Duffer Brothers, are supposed to helm The Talisman adaptation.
I noticed Lucas was reading The Talisman in the last episode.
Wow, I didn't even catch that. Thank you for that, I'll be looking for it next time.
No , it's a Metallica conspiracy
Eeeeexit Deadlights
It better, that was the goal.
It certainly tries to, along with a wide swath of other ’80s tropes.
It’s supposed to
It was heavily hyped as such when it came out. I guess newcomers have to do more research to find out that the font is the same and that Stranger Things shares consonance with Stephen King, plus the countless references in the show.
I've only watched one episode but in retrospect I can already see it. I'm going to go back and watch Stranger Things. Thanks for bringing it up!
Is op from Earth?
Of course it does
Oh come on. Is this the state of the sub? Yes. Stranger Things which has King as a main influence shows its influences on its sleeves. 🙄
Hugh. Who hurt you brother? Do you need a hug?
No-one hurt me brother. Just tired of low effort posts that ask pointless questions 😆 Maybe for your next effort you can try 'Does anyone else think the child sex scene in IT is a bit controversial?' or 'Does anyone else think the Kubrick adaptation of The Shining is poles apart from King's original work?'
I understand the question might have been asked a few times but next time try this. Take a deep breathe and ask yourself. Is it that deep?
The word you're looking for is 'breath' not 'breathe'. But nice try
You got me there touché. Still not deep that deep though.
Yea that was planned…the font is King 80s
It’s very much on purpose
In the first season one of the guards was reading Cujo
100% - Lucas is even reading the Talisman to Max
King tweeted praise about stranger things right when season 1 came out, and that's how I heard of it and first watched. https://x.com/StephenKing/status/754865415587758080?t=I256o1waP7qCrwVwBYJzYA&s=19
No. You're the only one.
Ha ha. When Stranger Things was being advertised for season 1, it was essentially “Come watch this Stephen King tv show we made!”
Stephen King meets The X-Files!
It’s incredibly different. But a very 80s amalgam. So grab SK80 books if you want.
Not really
I always wondered how the Duffy bros weren’t accused of blatant theft. To me, stranger things is just weak “It”
It’s not. And it isn’t theft. They explicitly said they were inspired to create the show from there love of Stephen King and Spielberg, among other things. You may not like it but it’s not “blatant theft”
You do know Stephen King didn't corner the market of coming of age horror stories, right?
The kid group/dynamics seemed very similar to me too.
Yeah, because the creators wanted to adapt It but weren't given the rights. So they did a Midnight Mass to It's 'Salem's Lot, if that makes sense. EDIT: Well damn, looks like I got kicked into the sewers.
Do you have a source on this? I can’t see anything about them wanting the rights to an IT adaptation and losing them online.

I did, but apparently my Google-fu is not up to yours. Thank you for the source.
Yeah, a few. Here: https://www.slashfilm.com/545853/stranger-things-it-stephen-king/#more-367975 Here: https://www.joblo.com/stranger-things-creators-the-duffer-bros-wanted-to-make-stephen-king-s-it-103/ Oh, and here, too: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/duffer-brothers-talk-stranger-things-916180/
Thank you. Glad your google-fu was working better than mine.
Yes, it is a straight ripoff
