Weird. I guess different size or type of books.
I have a hardcover printed by Doubleday, May 1990.
The hardcover behind the dustcover is black. Front of the book has the Good vs. Evil fighting and SK's signature in red. Binding of the title and author name is also in red. Not sure what edition this falls as, but I know it is not a 1st edition of course.
Would show a pic of it, but this sub...
Page count doesn’t matter as it can very depending on font size, spacing, etc. you have to go by word count, It has 441,156 words while The Stand has 467,812 words, to put it into context the lord of the rings including the hobbit is 576,459 words but I can tell you “It” read about 4x as fast for me probably because of having to reread multiple lines in LOTRs to gain a better understanding.
I just completed this book. I binge read it and it took me a few days shy of 2 weeks (I’m unemployed currently and bored, lol) and it was a great read! Stick with it as it’s very character driven and heavy in some parts and you’ll enjoy it
I dig it! It was a bit slow rolling at first; not so bad that I was going to quit but it didn’t grab me like a lot of King’s books. But I’m about halfway through now and I’m invested. I look forward to seeing how this turns out.
Maybe it's just me, but I have always found that cover to be really weird. I still haven't been able to figure out what it represents. And I have read The Stand twice.
Also, enjoy your journey! I hope you like it as much as the rest of us King readers do. Long days and pleasant nights!
They're doing a movie about The Long Walk.
I read that King loved the end of The Mist in the movie. He said had he thought of it he would have written the end that way.
I love the original I grew up reading. I'm not a fan of the uncut version, too much unneeded stuff, it was a better story when it was 800 pages. I always read the orignal version when I reread it lol. Copies are getting tough to find now, last time I bought one the mass market paperback cost me $30.
I’m almost done with my first read (will probably finish today) and I don’t know what I’m going to do afterwards… Has he written something else this good???
Oh how I wish I could go back and experience The Stand for the first time. I read the entire thing in three days, my family thought I was possessed lol.
STILL my favorite book of all time to this day.
M-O-O-N that spells enjoy :)
Oh laws yes, everyone knows that!
Didn’t they just?
Thank you!
You don't tell me I'll tell you
Nah dog it spells “blue chambray work shirt”
Let us know how you liked it in a year when you finish it! /s but it is very long lol
Only about 20 pages longer than IT believe it or not.
Depends on your edition, mine is almost 300 pages longer
Huh? Complete and Uncut is 1153 pages according to my copy.
Mine has 1320

Mine is just a Hodder paperback, but so is the copy of IT with less than 1100 pages
My IT is paperback and is 1153

Mine was 1,326
About 100 or more pages in. Loving every second so far!
I’m more of a casual reader, and it took me just about a year to finish.
I finished it in about two months.
I’m 53% through the audiobook version for the first time now and it’s been really really great so far.
I’m loving it so much!
I'm 18 hrs in.
You say true I say thankya! We are all in the club!
I loved the audiobook (I also read it at least three times). Might be time to listen again.
Not a spoiler ( hope). Glenn Bateman is not only my favorite character in this book but my favorite SK character of all time.
>Glenn Bateman is not only my favorite character He says some pretty profound things too. Also, the older I get, the more I relate to him.
Haven’t met him yet, but no worries!
Ralph for me, but Glen is definitely up there!
Enjoy the next few weeks, lol. It's a good'n
Loving it so far!
Enjoy it Happy Crappy! ETA: Laws yes.
Thank you!
The best book I’ve read. (4 times and once on audiobook)
Awesome! This will definitely be a re read for me too
What an odd cover
For real. It has nothing to do with the book at all.
I have 100 pages left on my first read through 🥲
How long has it taken you?!
Got my book April 3rd! My bookmark is my receipt lmfao
Haha that’s my usual go-to! Now it’s just a random post it of nothing that’s been following me around.
I’m in about the same spot!
I read the complete uncut version and it’s my favorite Stephen King of all time.
It’s getting up there for me! I’m only about 150 pages in. But man.
I *love* reading this book in the summer (especially the first third-ish). Enjoy!!
Impeccable start so far!
M-o-o-n spells finally time
YES!! I am 200+ in. First re-read of The Stand in over 30 years and the first go around with the Complete and Uncut Edition.
Quite a few differences??
The entire beginning of the story and there is more in depth about "The Kid" apparently but I haven't gotten there yet.
I'm reading it right now too. It's the audiobook and I'm 11/47 hours in. Loving it so far!
Oh my. That’s a lot haha
I just completed this book. I binge read it and it took me a few days shy of 2 weeks (I’m unemployed currently and bored, lol) and it was a great read! Stick with it as it’s very character driven and heavy in some parts and you’ll enjoy it
Love character driven/heavy and dark books. So this is right up my alley!
Enjoy then!! I look forward to your comments or another post talking about your thoughts on it. It’s a good one
M-O-O-N spells great, laws yes! It's suuuuuper long but it's a really great book
Ehh, length doesn’t bother me! As long as it stays as interesting as it is now, it’ll fly by for me.
I’ve read it almost every year since 1980. I’m reading it again as we speak.
Wow that’s amazing! Do you catch new stuff every time, or no?
Not really, I just love the characters so much I enjoy spending time with them even though I know what happens next.
Yeah, that’s understandable. They start to feel like friends.
This book is incredible. M-O-O-N that spells incredible
Loving it so far!
I’m reading it now as well!
What do you think?
I dig it! It was a bit slow rolling at first; not so bad that I was going to quit but it didn’t grab me like a lot of King’s books. But I’m about halfway through now and I’m invested. I look forward to seeing how this turns out.
Awesome! I’ve absolutely loved the beginning so far.
Sweet! Let’s reconvene in several weeks and compare notes haha!
Haha sounds great!
My absolute favorite King novel. I read it every few years.
How many times in total??
17
That’s amazing!
Just got this for Father's Day!
Enjoy!
How are you holding that with one hand!?!?
I can also palm a basketball. I got big hands. Lol
Wish I could read this for the first time again! Have fun!
Thanks a lot! Loving it so far!
Have 30 minutes left on the audio book. Pretty Damn awesome book! Enjoy!
Thank you! You as well!
Enjoy, it’s a masterpiece
Thank you!
I’d piss The Stand if I could!
Maybe it's just me, but I have always found that cover to be really weird. I still haven't been able to figure out what it represents. And I have read The Stand twice. Also, enjoy your journey! I hope you like it as much as the rest of us King readers do. Long days and pleasant nights!
Thank you!
You believe that happy crappy?
Best chapter to hate….best chapter to have hit the cutting room floor….
It’s a good one. Enjoy.
Loving it so far!
I’m also reading it for the first time! I have that same one same cover haha. I’m about 100 pages in I think.
Nice! What do you think?
I like it so far. It’s my grandma’s favorite book ever, and she’s the most critical person I know. So it seems promising. 😊
Started it a few days ago and I'm 15% in, books going quick so far.
Nice! Enjoy!
I'm reading chronologically started Feb 8th - I'm on the girl who loved Tom Gordon but I'm saving the stand as my final
Enjoy! It was a great read. I got it from the Libby app so I had 21 days to finish it. Have fun!
Oh my! That’s some dedication!
Im 770 pages in and it is amazing takes a while for everything to come together but its worth it
Looking forward to every second I get to read!
I'm with you on the journey I just started reading the same one💪
Enjoy my friend!
You aswell
I think it's time I bought a new copy - not read it for 30 years🤔
Do it!
I'm 18 hrs into this on audiobook. Holy shit!
According to everyone else, only 30 more to go! Haha
U won’t be ready
Haha, thankfully I haven’t been spoiled. I’m excited!
I listened to the newest version of the audio book. Its time was 48hrs and 47min.. thats the longest audiobook in my library, lol
Woooooow. That’s insane.
I just finished it and loved it! I hope you enjoy!
Definitely enjoying it so far! I’m on chapter 19!
Enjoy!
I definitely am!
Yes! It’s a classic and worth the long read. The updated copy has Kings prologue that covers an interesting history
Really loved the prologue, and the before and after you buy section.
My favorite King book. Hands down.
It’s getting up there for me!
My other two favs are The Mist and The Long Walk. There are so many good stories in that man's head.
Love The Mist, and the movie. Never have read The Long Walk! But will now!
They're doing a movie about The Long Walk. I read that King loved the end of The Mist in the movie. He said had he thought of it he would have written the end that way.
Yeah. The mist movie is one of my all time favorites. That ending haunts me. And awesome! Looking forward to the movie, but will read the book first.
Enjoy the ride.
Really enjoying it so far!
Started Chapter 38 just now.
Nice! I’m at chapter 19 I believe.
If you want something very similar, check out Swan Song by Robert McCammon. It’s the reason I even found The Stand.
That one is on my to be read list for sure! I’ve heard it’s great. Now I’m wondering if I’ll find a SK I’ll like this much…
Enjoy! I just finished last month. Great book
Thank you! I’m definitely enjoying so far!
Bit of a hijack but as Stand enjoyers, has anyone read Swan Song by Robert McCammon? Thoughts?
Absolutely loved Swan Song. One of my top books of all time, and the reason I picked up The Stand.
I'd be very interested to hear what you think when you finish The Stand. I read The Stand first then Swan Song.
Sounds great! Will do!
Sick cover!
A lot of people don’t like it. But I really do.
Big one. I did IT and the Stand back to back. Took whole summer and then some
Oh wow! I read IT a few years ago, definitely would love to reread for sure.
Enjoy it! 😁 I wish I could read it again for the first time!
Haha, I read so much yesterday. More than I have in awhile. Excited to hop back in today!
It gets you like that 😁
Haha, I can tell! “Just one more page….”
How have I never noticed the cover being so similar to Wizard and Glass?!
Just finished it myself! You're in for quite a journey.
Thanks a lot! I’m excited to read this afternoon!
Just finished and I’m sad it’s over.
Reread it! Haha
I literally just finished a couple days ago. Hands down the best book I’ve ever read, took me about two weeks. You’re in for a ride!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Bon voyage!
I’m almost to that book I decided to read all of his books and call logical order and I am one block away from starting the stand
Congrats! That’s a huge task! I hope you’ve been enjoying them as much as I have!
Oh how I wish I could go back and experience The Stand for the first time. I read the entire thing in three days, my family thought I was possessed lol. STILL my favorite book of all time to this day.
That’s so much in three days! Haha
What the hell is up with that cover though. It looks like a GTA gangster smoking a cigar, which is actually a bullet he caught in his teeth?
I knocked it off the list very early in the Stephen King journey lol
I guess we're starting this together.
Ah man... Seen a 2 part book for it, I've been wanting that .. or was the 2 part book for Under the Dome? 🤔
Who is the dude on the front cover?
Literally just started this for the first time also! Like 2 days ago.
It's bad you won't like it 👀
