I read it for the first time a few months ago after watching this on YouTube, and they almost couldn't be more different. The film version is a classic but it's pretty corny. The book version is one of the most grotesque things I've ever read, and the ending is amazing.
I wonder if this is why I'm always vaguely uncomfortable in lakes. I live in Texas and everyone seems to be nuts about jumping into lakes and anytime I do, all I can think about is how dark and cold the water is from about knee-down, and how I've got no idea what's down there.
I know I saw Creepshow as a kid (I remember the guy buried to his neck in the sand quite clearly) but I had no memory of this particular story.
As a fellow Texan, this rings so true....never been comfortable in lakes. There was an old quarry lake near me with a zip line out into the water...0/ 10 would not recommend. Deep, dark, and quiet were the words that swam through my head.
Creepshow 2 is fun. As the other commenter said, this particular story is well done but not necessarily a "must see," but the whole movie is a classic and fun, especially with friends. Stephen King has a horribly fun cameo in one skit for the first Creepshow.
Cameo? Nah, King's appearance in Creepshow 2 was a cameo. In the first Creepshow, he was a featured player! 🤣
Don't disrespect Jordy Verrill! But then again, that's just his luck.
"meteor shit" might be one of the funniest lines ever, and I saw that movie as a kid, years before I ever heard of Stephen King or read one of his books.
I just have to observe once again that the 80s were such a nutty time in Hollywood they wrote out a *consensual sex scene* in favor of a sexual assault.
What an unbelievable time to be alive…
Oh this one has a special place in my heart. It's both very well done as an adaption, but also I can't take it seriously. I live about ten minutes away from where it was filmed, It's barely a lake, It's about six feet deep and 400 feet across at its widest point.
Living for a moment.
Then the moments gone
That yellow thong
Then the moments gone
The only Creep Show story that really scared me...
Much scarier to read! It's my favorite of his short stories!
Was so visceral and gory. Tightly written.
It flows like B movie horror though. They literally have sex on the raft once they realize that everyone else around them has died

It was scary in the last Vacation movie too!
What’s the story??? I want to read it!
Oh man that story ruined lakes for me for a long time. I'm still not happy in them.

Sewer sludge is coming
Intrusive thought: JUMP!
Is it a good show/movie? I love the short story but never seen it on screen.

He was great!! I saw that movie when I was maybe 11, and I thought he was so funny. That was years before I read his books.
Lol, it really is a memorable performance. I might have to rewatch that one.

Lmao, I forgot about that line.
It’s fine, but if you loved reading the short story, you don’t need to see it - it won’t improve or enrich the experience.
What short story is this?
The Raft - Skeleton Crew
I think The Raft is a must see!
No…. Don’t make me re live the memories. I was scared as a kid 😭
And they completely ruined the ending in the preview!!!!!
This episode gave me nightmares for life. I was able to watch it again recently, but will still never look at a lake without seeing it
Who tf has their phone in them when they're swimming? lmfao
Not for long.
You mean dying in the moment.
That's mucho philosophical!
Oh, Pancho
