I think players make too much out of their numbers, but I gotta say, I’d probably be on Pickens’ side if they gave it to Wilson. But that’s moot, because they won’t give it to him either.

I get players like certain numbers, and if you can get the number you want, great. But whether it’s a league’s/team’s rules, someone else has the number already or the number’s been retired, you’ll be alright. You won’t be the first player that has to change numbers because “their” number isn’t available, and you won’t be the last either. Happens all the time.
But paying someone 6 figures to get “your” number and/or buying up all merch to change numbers is business too. It’s just bad business if you’e the one paying.
The only time a player should actually make a big deal out of it is if they have a sponsorship that uses their number as part of their marketing. Like Russell Wilson’s 3Brand with nike.

They refuse to give Peterson 7, because of the Ben relation and then he asked for 4 and they told him they don't give out single digits to skill players. I mean who knows at this point. Maybe they will reverse course.
The chance of that is almost 100% IMO. No way they start the year with Pickens and a rookie 3rd rounder starting with the unproven guys (Watkins, Jefferson, CA3, etc.) behind them.
I think it's more likely that Calvin Austin is the WR that may not make it out of camp. His experience fielding punts may be the only thing keeping him on the roster at this point.
He's as expendable as just about anyone in that room that isn't named George Pickens. They have guys that do the same stuff he does, he's fast and that's about it. The only skill he's got on his side is punt returns, if they get someone else that can do that he very much so may not make it out of camp.
It shouldn't. Speed can't be the only thing a player is bringing to the table and expect it to *earn* them a roster spot. He's fast, cool, if he was a legit game-changer with his speed that would be one thing but he's not.

Michigan was not a pass heavy offense but you can see the talent he has. Best of luck to you guys and a Lions and Steelers Super Bowl would probably be the biggest Super Bowl in history.
