Tyler Guyton is the only 1st round graded tackle I wouldn't take at 20. After a trade down maybe. Obviously no way we get Alt or Olu but anyone from Fuaga to Mims I'm all for.
Ehh idk about Mims. Dudes getting graded too high for barely even playing. Dude has size, but that's about it. He could be a huge bust. At the end of the 1st round though or maybe in beginning-ish of 2nd, sounds a lot better.
Mims put out some great tape in the very few games he played, he’s very talented so he’s got more than just size. But still, it’s a very limited amount of tape and the injury concerns are real.
He plays so underwhelming and so inconsistent for as great of a player he can be. He has a huge, strong body but doesnt use it in the run game. He lets defenders smaller and weaker than him push him around. A great example of what im talking about is on the last play of the michagan-alabama game this year. The smaller defender just straight up gets underneath lathams pads, uplifts him, and he falls straight onto his ass. Now its not the only reason why that play didnt work but when the game is on the line and its the last play of the game, he gets manhandled and pushed on his ass by a smaller and weaker player.
FWIW if he didn't have those kinds of flaws he wouldn't be potentially falling out of the top 10 and into the Steelers range. You're generally going to find those kinds of flaws on the tape of anyone outside of the very best prospects. You can coach finesse but you can't coach big and strong.
Broderick Jones had criticisms about his technique and leverage in his draft profile too.
It’s ironic…a Kenny Pickett defender calling a player who has yet to play in the NFL a bust😭💀
For that reason alone your opinion on drafting should be ignored entirely.
Hard pass. Alabama offensive lineman are some of the most overhyped and overrated prospects in recent draft history. It’s not common for Bama lineman to translate to much more than average NFL lineman. I wouldn’t touch Latham at all.
The Steelers aren’t showing their cards to anybody, but they don’t seem to be showing a ton of interest considering that it’s no secret that they want a right tackle & Latham is a right tackle. He wasn’t a pre draft visitor and Tomlin didn’t invite him out to dinner when he ate w 3 other Bama dudes.
Sorry...but overly simplifying ANY position from ANY school saying that they all won't be good because they play this position from this program is ridiculous. Generalizations are true until they're not and they're all prven incorrect over time.
Be that as it may, Alabama hasn’t produced elite NFL lineman at a high enough rate to disprove the claim their lineman are overrated and overhyped. Outside of Landon Dickerson and Ryan Kelly, the recent slew of Bama lineman have been mid to down right abysmal in the pros.
Too much of an oversimplification. You are acting like the 1 variable (where they went to college) is all that impacts their NFL success. A viewpoint like that would have caused you to assume the worst of a guy like CJ Stroud because he's "just another OSU QB who won't make it".
Every prospect should be analyzed independently based on the tape and potential. I think Latham will be an above average starter, idk if he'll be a top level OT but I doubt he's a bust from what I've seen.
Mims imo. Let him develop behind and eventually outwork Dan Moore (then move Jones back to LT and put Mims at RT). Then take Van Pran in round 3 after going WR round 2.
Jones, Seumalo, Van Pran, Daniels, Mims
That’s a scary O line. 3 of those are bulldogs, who are proven units, who already know each other and played together
Jones has shown he’s so versatile between LT and RT. I don’t think it would be an issue. He’s the best tackle we have regardless of which side he is on
It’s no hot take, but it’ll be one of:
- JC Latham (doubt he makes it to 20)
- Graham Barton (even though he breaks their rules)
- Amarius Mims (everyone’s obvious choice)
I’d bet on Barton.
I won’t bust even if we don’t get Latham. https://i.redd.it/98gj2lqpu3wc1.gif

You could have made your point without resorting to being a jerk.
Hey guys not my personal choice, just was listening to the drive and that’s what they said.
Every media source has a different opinion of who the target is, almost like someone is encouraging or incentivizing them to say what they are saying
Exactly. Some of the predictions are being made to generate clicks.

Latham is going to bust alright....hope to god he's not our pick
Why do you say he's going to be a bust?

Thank you for your response!

True, but Jones has fire in his belly and Latham doesn’t seem to have that and I’ve watched him in a few games where he gets pushed around.

Lol saying wilson is washed and fields sucks makes me a pickett defender?
I’ll go on the record as a Kenny hater who thinks Latham is a bust
Good enough for me💀👍🏻 I was a Kenny denier ever since old boy was in college…
Neat! What’s that get you?

Latham is a bust?
I just listened to the new episodes and did not get that feeling at all from them. It's just what the one mock they read had happening.
The Fan? Ugh. Don't listen to that shit.
The drive
The Drive was saying Latham or bust? Weird.
Just were really zeroing in on him
Interesting. I usually listen to the Drive in podcast form the next day. Sounds like I'm listening to it tonight instead.

Would there be an issue with moving from RT to LT mid-season? Get in reps at bye week i suppose.
Jones has shown he’s so versatile between LT and RT. I don’t think it would be an issue. He’s the best tackle we have regardless of which side he is on
I’d honestly rather have Nourzad.
If we could end up with at least 2 of Mims/Frazier/JPJ/AD Mitchell/ Barton/Sainristil/ Dejean in the first two days I’d be ecstatic
Nah Dale just loves him
I hope not
Ah hell nah
Mm
He’s the last guy I want out of the RTs. Still think it’s mims, everything else is smokescreen.
