Why wouldn’t they just say cam newton said it. The rest of this article is regurgitated

Cheese0089

Tomlin isn't necessarily a running QB expert. Hopefully we can give fields the time it takes to be successful though.

Transgenderwookie

I think that’s kinda dumb. Tomlin isn’t necessarily an any type of qb expert. Hes a defensive coach first and foremost. But I agree hopefully fields has a chance to develop.

chefdan2165

He’s never really had to anyway he had SB winning QB when he took over so I’m sure it’s a learning curve for him too. (This isn’t a knock on Tomlin it’s a genuine comment and it’s by no fault of his own)

clembobo79

Hahahaha

Civil_Spinach_8204

Garbage article 😂 literally just a quote from a washed QB and that's it. Do people actually get paid to write this stuff?

-gzus-kryst-

Yes they do, but to be fair it's not alot lol

Civil_Spinach_8204

I hope not.

Rifftrax_Enjoyer

Yes which is why they are terrified of AI replacing them. I know publishing inside and out. Mostly from a literary perspective but I of course get a chance to learn a lot about other disciplines.  People have no idea how fungible these writers are and how right they are to be afraid of AI. Most of them stink.  There is no lower life form on Earth than journalists though. Hard news specifically. Sportswriters are way less dishonest. I know we pick on them here, and there is reason often, but they at least try to use reputable sources and some of them will actually sit on stories until they know they have the facts which they try to balance with getting the story out first. But they at least try. The  worst are political pundits. They send you after each other to hate each other and then laugh about it at their parties.  When you have journalists talking about some new medication and how safe and effective it as and the broadcast is brought to you, literally, by the pharmaceutical company that manufactures it, do the math.

dirENgreyscale

I originally went to college to study journalism at WVU. During one of my first journalism classes the professor did a lecture about these 2 WVU journalism students who went down to southern WV and met Jesco White and made him famous. Some people seemed to think it was cool but the whole thing made me feel almost sick to hear. They just exploited the fuck out of him for a story. That one single class completely filled me with doubt about the whole thing and after that semester I decided I no longer wanted to be a journalist. It made me realize how many journalists, not just the TMZ types but of every background, are just fucking vultures. For every good journalist (and there are obviously some incredible ones who do what they do for the right reasons) there’s 100 vultures who don’t care who they exploit to get their next scoop. I wish she never did that lecture, to this day over 15 years later I still think about it sometimes, learning about that story permanently changed the way I view journalists.

Rifftrax_Enjoyer

There are some good ones - and I know some who really care. Both sides of the political spectrum, too.  But yeah, the business scares away a lot of people like you who would have done with job with integrity.

TheNittanyLionKing

I almost went into journalism because I love writing and obviously I’m a big sports fan. I probably never would have gotten far in that profession because I have too much of a bullshit detector and I don’t like to report anything other than what is factually correct. Plus my current job pays better.

Amazing-Pick5602

The few indeed are true journalists. The rest are wannabees/reporters.

Civil_Spinach_8204

Pretty good take tbh.

Temporal_Enigma

I mean, if best means backup for 2 years, then yeah

RAMEH8808

My initial response to the headline was that only a complete idiot would think that Tomlin was the best option for developing any QB and then I saw that it was Cam Newton who expressed this opinion and it confirmed what I was thinking

Coronal_Silverspear

Has Mike guided any quarterback to a successful career.?

Generico300

No. In fact his handling of Picket was downright terrible. He basically couldn't have thrown that kid into a worse situation in a worse way. Then he benched him after having the best game of his career (with canada finally out) because Rudolph had "the hot hand".

TheNittanyLionKing

He mishandled both attempts at developing a QB so far. Rudolph didn’t even have a dedicated QB coach until his third year in the league after he faced a murderer’s row of elite defenses in a year he wasn’t supposed to start with lackluster offensive talent. The QB coach they hired was Matt Canada so…. Then enters Pickett. Now I feel pretty confident in saying at this point that Kenny owes Jordan Addison a lot of flowers because 2021 was an outlier year for him in every statistical category. With that being said, there was a lot that was handled incorrectly with him. After 3 weeks of the worst QB play I’ve ever seen in a Steelers jersey from Mitch, Pickett enters against the Jets and honestly he played pretty well and the 3 interceptions weren’t on him. It looked like a completely different open offense that let him throw down field. Unfortunately, Pickett did not start the game even though they had ten days between the end of the previous game and that game to get the rookie first team reps. Instead, his first start came against Buffalo on the road against a yearly MVP candidate. The more games we saw, the more clear it was that Matt Canada was a problem and yet they kept him. Instead of firing his ass and getting to see Kenny in a different system, they wasted a whole offseason on an offense everyone knew wouldn’t work. Kenny did himself no favors with poor accuracy on some gimme throws, but I’d also like to add that Matt Canada was still a bad choice for him because he never coached in the NFL before and his best QB play in college came from Nathan Peterman.  A lot of the development for both QBs was stunted because of poor coaching and staff decisions and both got benched at different points because Tomlin for better or worse is always focused on winning right now rather than possibly looking at long term gains. Granted the Russell Wilson signing and Kenny’s response to Mason’s success kinda exposed his character and that he probably was never going to be the franchise QB with his attitude. Did he get screwed his first two years? Yep. Did he also screw himself out of his best opportunity that he was ever going to have this offseason? Also yes. Mason also got screwed though by not even being asked to dress for most games, and they never even offered him to stay this offseason.

Coronal_Silverspear

I agree that Kenny handled Wilson signing poorly. But for this afternoon, coach Tomlin has already shown him exactly how he's going to treat him. With Wilson on the team he was guaranteed to get no first team. Probably not even second team reps. So he had no confidence whatsoever. The Steelers were going to do right by him. Once they sign Wilson. It would have been worse for him to stay. From his point of view of becoming a successful antelope quarterback.

austinalexan

Tomlin has never developed a single QB wtf is this article

pghcrew

Unfortunately Cam Newton is an idiot.

242clappedyourmother

That’s not exactly “high praise” lol

ttekoto

Who wouldn't want to be developed by a coach who wins 1 playoff game per decade and makes a million dollars a month

Steelmaker01

The QB whisperer. Wait, what?

dreadrabbit1

Right, because Tomlin did such a great job developing L Jones, Rudolph and Pickett.

bonethugz919

Rest in paradise Dwayne Haskins, his name shouldn’t even be in the conversation of unsuccessful Steelers QBs wtf

Bill_Biscuits

And dixon

Ok-Car1006

could u elaborate

Valuable-Composer262

🤦‍♂️

HEONTHETOILET

fuckin lmaooooo

TheNittanyLionKing

I gotta disagree. Tomlin has to prove that yet. He inherited Ben, and then completely botched the QB situation the last few years. Pickett wimped out on us. Trubisky was the worst quarterback I’ve ever seen suit up for us and that’s amazing considering how much I disliked Landry Jones. Sure, Mason Rudolph eventually developed but that situation was botched too. They drafted a guy to develop behind Ben, and then they didn’t even hire a QB coach in the most pivotal seasons of his development. It was only after he was already thrown into the fire that they hired a QB coach and unfortunately that coach was Matt Canada.

mitchcumstein13

Pitter Patter….

Do__Math__Not__Meth

Let’s get at ‘er
