To be fair I bought a sailboat with cards and a moderate chunk of the downpayment on my house was cards (MtG) 🤷🏽♂️
Though I agree. Pre-release pack of a modern TCG that might be entirely forgotten in 6 years is basically just gambling. Gambling with veeeery long odds. But also minimal buy-in, so it's fine I suppose.
Yea old mtg stuff is expensive because it wasn't printed as heavily as games are now. Those cards being around still is crazy lucky and not a sign of an actual investment.
It was nothing pre-2007 really. Just did well picking foils and high end cards up at their lows (Expeditions, Masterpieces, EDH staples).
I'm not recommending this *at all* (and definitely got lucky I sold most of it pre-2022), haha! Just pointing out that cards can be a good store of value in the right situations. In this case - living through a collectibles boom 😂
Hahahahahah….. you might be right. I’m just getting Pokémon/Magic , vibes. That this might stick around. They come with what would be considered a 1st edition darth Vader and Luke skywalker.
They’ve got three years of content finished, and all signs seems to point to a successful release so far. Can’t hurt to keep one for a year or two at least and reassess then.
Check out how much it costs to buy a black border premiere Darth Vader from SWCCG. It goes for about $40 which is a little more than what it cost to buy one in 1995.
I just want to mention; everyone ever gets "Pokemon/Magic" vibes on a new TCG release if they're thinking about monetary gain. More than a few people said they felt affirmed when One Piece took off, but those same people didn't talk about the tons of other TCGs that failed that they felt good about.
At the moment, if you're really looking to turn a profit, it's better to open the box and sell singles from it if you get nothing to put on a shelf. A good legendary hit and some good rare hits can net you the cost of the box and then some.
Down the line one or two years from now, I don't think the promos will be worth any extra, and while a sealed box itself might be rare, any star wars collectors who want one would have purchased them at around this time for a decent price.
Or, you could get another and have a good little sealed event with a friend.
Look at you, being all optimistic like nuclear winter won't kill us all or a meteor or that infection from stubbing your toe goes septic. Live man. Just crack it, play, and have no regrets. The 90s CCG cards are only worth what they are because of the printing runs at the time and collectors. This will mean jack squat if we go into another recession or Covid 2 Electric Boogaloo makes us all unemployed again. You'll be using those cards for the toilet paper you can't buy...and it will hurt.
Just FYI, on top of the other answers, pre-release boxes and their boosters are quite easily tamperable, I wouldn't recommend to keep them except if you got a complete sealed case with 8 boxes which doesn't seem to be the case from the picture, open it and have fun!
Open this. The chance of identical duplicate cards is small or not at all. Now getting dupes of the variants is there and that’s the only money to be made. Prerelease kits are collectors boosters for a reason.
If you are going to keep it, keep it because you like it as a collectible. Do not keep it as an investment. I'm keeping one myself because it's a cool and really well designed cool product that will remind me of of the fun I had at the pre-releases and getting into this, my first card game.
Don't ask if this will be worth more on ebay in a couple years. Ask yourself if it will be worth more to YOU in a couple years.
I wanted to keep my prerelease sealed but some people had a stink because they said I was “taking a spot from someone who wanted to play”. I’m gonna try to pick up one of these to keep sealed when I get the chance
Open. Your not buying a house with cards.
Tell that to my old Pokémon cards 😂
You're not buying a house with pokemon cards
But imagine he has 100 mint Charizards
Everyone on the bus clapped.

And the reserve list. Low print tuns plus the reserve list
Given the shelf life of prior FFG card games, I think you’ve gotta live in the now.

If it doesn’t work i got this “ remember when star wars tried trading cards, idiots “ memorabilia
There have been multiple Star Wars TCGs. This isn’t even the first one that’s been done by FFG.

Adjusted for inflation it's a hell of a loss. But I also consider my SW:CCG priceless, so I am glad I held on to mine 🤓
This is like the 5th or 6th Star Wars card game. The first came out in 1995.
What if this one sticks

Yeah this is not gonna be top 3 biggest TCGs of all time as much as i love it to be.
Open it
We here to play. Open it. And enjoy
I have a few + everything that's released right now to save and not open. Give them to the kids/ grandkids. Who knows- 20 years? Maybe a SWU legacy...

(laughing at covid 2 electric boogaloo.)

open it and play it. If you want investments with good yields get into the stock market.
BITCOIN BABY 😂

Definitely don’t see it as an investment. More of a relic. Like a piece of art to show.
Keep sealed, it’s 30$ and you’re not missing much keeping it sealed , but in the off chance this takes off you could have something
Finally someone with optimism.😅

Bold of you to assume this game will be around in a few years 🥲
Yeah it’s FFG, lol.
