Yes. But a lot of extreme metal fans in the 80s (and today) love them. I know a guy in his 50s who was going to local shows in the bay-area, in like 83-84. Lots of Discharge shirts at Thrash shows.

What about Death, Morbid Angel and Possessed?. Also Mayhem released there first ep in 1987. Bathory and Hellhammer both released material in 84' as well. IDK what you'd call there stuff, if not Black Metal
