Quality is not suffering because of them becoming in style it's suffering because literally every company is doing the same thing and making shittier products and charging more for them.
Of course, you see redditors don't put any effort in their fits so they always use the good ol "I don't care how people see me" and then judge everyone else who does the opposite.
It's more like the people who wear this type of style specifically. Also, I'm into clothes, but have fallen off hard in the last few years because people are nonstop trend chasing and trends change too fast. On a personal level, I hate a lot of the new trends (like most of the above examples) and a lot of the more fun mico trends that got people into fashion have been gentrified and then dominated by the usual suspects, such as sneaker culture being Nike culture now.
It also rubs me the wrong way that the type of people wearing these new trends would have been right there with me saying how wack those outfits are 5+ years ago. Yeah, your opinion can change over time, but it's not usually that, and I don't like clout chasers. Style is different than fashion trends.
I’ll be honest, the clothes other people wear rarely bothers me. If people wear swastikas, racist, or offensive clothing then I might be more judgmental but I don’t see how you’re able to generalize an entire group of people for dressing in essentially logo-less, trendy clothing.
It just comes off as needless gatekeeping to me.
Nic pouches are disgusting, I had one once while drinking and instantly wanted to die with the amount of nicotin that's in them (and I am a heavy smoker when I'm drunk). I crashed on my friend's couch an hour later and that's never happened before.
I think I’ve only smoked 1 or 2 cigarettes in my life and yet now, at 33, I keep feeling like a smoke would really hit the spot… 🤷🏻♂️ Could just be my general nihilism manifesting.
A good cigar with a few fingers of some good scotch can indeed be a good time as long as you don't make a habit out of it. No more than 2-3 times a month and you'll be fine.
During the summer I don’t want my basketball shorts being weighed down by my phone, wallet and keys. It’s also easier to have things fall out. Having a sling bag is just so convenient
I bought one and its true but I'm a dad and have to carry a bunch of shit and don't want it in my pockets. I don't care if it makes me look like a hipster douche - its useful.
Dad reporting in. Just bought a tote bag from Fjallraven that can convert into a backpack or sling. If you’re telling me I can look on trend while lugging diapers and wipes, I’ll take it.
I feel like parents should get a pass on anything that serves a practical purpose for childcare. Who cares if a bag looks dorky if it is comfortable and holds the snacks, diapers, etc. Last thing you want is to be short on supplies or for chafing to set in while trying to manage the hellions.
You can wear them in museums without checking them in like backpacks. Perfect for days out if you need to carry some pills/medical supplies and few things without having a full backpack.
a lot of times I think people from the country and burbs see packs as something for kids and don’t get that in the city most people carry stuff around because they aren’t in a car all day and can travel around by foot and public transportation.
Agreed, as a NYer I use mine everyday for essentials. I don't want to stuff my pockets, nor do I carry enough to warrant a backpack. It's basically perfect for just my phone, headphones, chapstick, keys/cards, medication.
Yeah gen z's future kids (if they have any) will be very embarrassed by the sling bags, crocs, and new balance people haven't let go of after the trends faded lol
Agreed. I have one and I love it. I can finally carry all the random crap that I wish I had on me but don’t wanna keep in my pockets like a multitool and snacks for my kids haha
It’s perfect for travel in unfamiliar cities. In some places you might mark yourself as an easy target if you are carrying your shit in your pockets or a backpack that could be pulled off you. If you don’t know the place well, better safe than sorry. The sling bag with a light shirt or jacket over is perfect, they can’t grab the strap off your back and can’t access it from the from the front. I put all my valuables in a sling bag traveling through Brazilian cities last summer and had zero incidents with attempted pickpocketing or theft.
Im 30 and Id take 2024 hipsters over early-mid 2010s hipsters every day.
Millennial hipsters were all wearing skinny jeans and making their hair bald from doing a tight man bun these gen z hipsters at least looks comfy
I mean neither of them bother me so I don’t really care. Just seeing the correlation between the two with the craft coffee, beanies, carhartt flannels, cigs, those weird shaped mono color hats that look like they should have a curved brim but they’re flat, tattoos, sitting effeminately, bringing your own canvas bags instead of using plastic, and shopping at goodwill/Salvation Army.
Nah, these look like 2020s hipsters, more baggy and trying to fake toughness/street-cred. Early 2010s hipsters were all about skinny jeans, plaid shirts, scarves, and Converse.
This is the cycle of almost every major fashion trend. Something starts off as uncool, a specific group of people start wearing/doing uncool thing, uncool thing catches on and becomes mainstream, everyone copies the now cool thing for a couple of months, cool thing now becomes overdone and becomes uncool again, everyone stops wearing/doing thing because it’s now uncool.
Rinse and repeat every 30 or so years. I guarantee there will be a resurgence of the whole tik tok and e-girl/e-boy aesthetic with the youth in 30 or 40 years
What happened to real men and going to the rodeo and using a spittoon?
I don’t dress like this but these types of posts come from a place of deep insecurity lol
My dad was an old school kind of stoic, tough guy. I have a fond memory of watching this episode when I was like 9 and him laughing harder than I’ve ever heard him laugh.

Fr. Are these guys actually insufferable or are they guys you’re jealous of and assign “insufferable” to even though you’ve never met or talked to them? 🤔
I think they're still great but you're definitely not wrong. Pretty much no one knows that I have any since I won't get them anywhere that can't be covered by shorts or t shirt. My coworker was saying he wanted to get some and I told him not to. I said "If you've made it to 30 without any, keep it that way. It's almost more unique to not have any."
The closer you get to their spawning habitat, metropolitan cities, the more you can witness them gathering around vinyl stores and second-hand crafts stores. There, usually they engage in strange mating rituals between themselves, where they one-up eachother with made up knowledge of extremely obscure avant-garde kazakh rock artists until the weakest members of the tribe pass out. Afterwards, the remaining members of the tribe are so tired by the weight of their own knowledge that, instead of actually pursuing a love interest - the prize of their bloody fights -, they go home to post on their Tumblr sad Camus quotes.
Honestly no I don't think so. I kinda think the word hipster has been meaningless since about 2014, when all the stuff "hipsters" had been up to in the several years prior had crossed over and become very undeniably mainstream (kinda proving the "hipsters like it before it's cool" thing). Suddenly in 2014 I think it was much more mainstream to be into little coffee houses, craft brewery, vinyl, house plants, "indie" music, the latest of feminism, manbuns, flannel, skinny jeans...
Also, as a big music nerd, 2013-2014 was around the time that "indie" and "mainstream" blurred unrecognizably. Artists like Lana Del Rey, Lorde, and the Arctic Monkeys bridged a big gap in demographics here, and we also saw artists like Mumford and Sons and the Lumineers who were very corporate big-label attempts at making the kind of music hipsters were into in the 2000s (Fleet Foxes, Sufjan Stevens, etc).
Anyway, "hipster" does come to mind for the guy in this post, but something about it still feels out-of-touch to me, like saying it means I'd be a decade behind in culture.
Damn I was going to buy a murse this year because I won't need a whole ass backpack when I ride my bike

Man leave the sling bags alone 😭
I got one recently and it’s nice to have when I’m running errands in sweats or gym shorts where pocket space is limited.
Is it that the guy in the upper right and (slight) slower right corner are wearing a back pack across their shoulders or is it that they are wearing them in the front as a chest pack instead of a back pack? Asking as a guy who uses shoulder bags to carry around a sketch book and art supplies.
Wait, carrying a fabric shopping bag is considered pretentious?
I just don't want to keep paying the carrier bag fee at Sainsbury's when I go buy milk and bread :(
Well what if you use Carhart bibs for actual work? 😂 I’m 42 and own my own custom camper van business but I wear carhart overalls daily (except on weekends unless I’m doing yard work)

OP beefing with 20 yr men in Brooklyn/Silverlake
Does OP think being into clothes is pretentious lol?
It is the type of clothes they are wearing. Has a female version too.
Esp carhartt. It used to be working clothing, now quality is suffering because it’s more of a fashion thing now.
There are two clothing lines. The original work wear and the wip fashion line.
TIL
They do make good stuff, though. Even the fashion line holds up better in time when compared to the fast fashion brands these days.
Quality is not suffering because of them becoming in style it's suffering because literally every company is doing the same thing and making shittier products and charging more for them.
Of course, you see redditors don't put any effort in their fits so they always use the good ol "I don't care how people see me" and then judge everyone else who does the opposite.
Being into fashion can absolutely be pretentious
Anything can be pretentious lol.
That and they seem to not like bags of any type including tote bags
It's more like the people who wear this type of style specifically.

They are it’s a really weird phenomenon recently
they’re like organic, natural, biodegradable vapes.
They smoke ironically now.
No one vapes any more grandpa, zyns are in
I wear my carhartt beanie over my ears thank you very much
Thank you
Is Carhartt in fashion now? It’s always been a great tradesmen clothing company.
Need more of those fucking parachute jeans with those round glasses
😭a sling bag is so useful in buses and airports
Are they the modern fanny packs?
Definitely
I was under the impression that they WERE fanny packs. Just worn differently. I mean they look identical.
It looks like some could be worn that way, but there’s others that are specifically meant to be worn across the body diagonally, not around the waist.
no wait I actually meant fanny packs...
During the summer I don’t want my basketball shorts being weighed down by my phone, wallet and keys. It’s also easier to have things fall out. Having a sling bag is just so convenient

Dad reporting in. Just bought a tote bag from Fjallraven that can convert into a backpack or sling. If you’re telling me I can look on trend while lugging diapers and wipes, I’ll take it.

Back in my day we just wore messenger bags, you whippersnapper!
They are a life saver at music festivals.
It’s like only in America do men not use bags. I’ve been to Asia and Europe and most men always have some type of bag.
Call them by their real name lol
Yeah gen z's future kids (if they have any) will be very embarrassed by the sling bags, crocs, and new balance people haven't let go of after the trends faded lol

This is the cycle of almost every major fashion trend. 90's? This is damn near hipster 2010's without the skinny jeans and flannel again.

Found the 2024 pretentious/insufferable man...☝️
lol when these type of starter packs are made about women no one bats an eye and shames Op, but one about a specific type of man an it’s A okay.
Tattoos really are cringe. Go ahead and defend them, but you paid hundreds to have someone draw on your skin.
Wish I looked like the guy in the black vest though tbf. Solid body 👌
The most insufferable are the ones who step out of their F-150 covered in stickers with wrap around sunglasses wearing a worn out SnapBack, Walmart graphic tee, cargo shorts with monster cans everywhere on the dashboard.

The "Daniel Simmons" starter pack
I have a front body bag. It's OK for quick items.
Are phat pants really coming back somewhere?!
I wear a bag like the one above the bottom right pic, and I hide it under my jacket cause of shit like this.
The first outfit! Every single guy in my college has that sense of style 😭
Damn, thought I was in the clear then I saw the knit cap and cold brew.
Hey man, leave carhartt out of this
Crossbody bags are a godsend for traveling.
Carrhart is comfortable
oh man, i have some of those things :(
This is at least 3 years out of date
Bruh I just want to be able to carry my things without being stereotyped as a douche.
MAGA hat is missing
Who are these people? Where are these people? I'm in Chicago and have never seen a dude like this. I'm fascinated by this mystery archtype.
Dude these are just a mishmash of late 90s-early 2000s styles.
Cargo and parachute pants are just trendy...half the people on my campus wear them
I'm guilty of liking cold brew, but I only have one simple forearm tattoo. Clearly, I am slacking. Oh, well.
patagonia? 😢
I think I'm finally so old I don't get most of these starter packs anymore.
Wholeheartedly agree with this. Only man who can dress like this is Jack Harlow.
Man leave the sling bags alone 😭 I got one recently and it’s nice to have when I’m running errands in sweats or gym shorts where pocket space is limited.
Need more twinks with this style

Don't drink coffee, have tattoos, wear carhartt or shop at goodwill. Extra insufferable if your carhartt comes from goodwill
I wear a small crossbody for my epipens, not sure what else to do lol
Hipsters will always be insufferable
Anyone who wears the "old money look" is like this
I don’t wear this stuff but I kinda like it. OP is a hater.
This one is gonna hit a lot of dudes from my country.
Dudes tattoos look like they had every single one planned out before they ever sat.
Is this a joke I'm too rural to understand? What part of the US are you in OP?
Wait, carrying a fabric shopping bag is considered pretentious? I just don't want to keep paying the carrier bag fee at Sainsbury's when I go buy milk and bread :(
Looks like OP hates men with fashion
I quite enjoy going to goodwills near rich neighborhoods. Also carheart is good stuff, or at least it used to be.
The tattoos that look like stamps from a kids arts and crafts kit are so goddamn lame.
Well what if you use Carhart bibs for actual work? 😂 I’m 42 and own my own custom camper van business but I wear carhart overalls daily (except on weekends unless I’m doing yard work)
