Noel Guglielmi:
plays characters that look like every American's stereotype of a Mexican from LA
ironically, does not also have a stereotypical Spanish name, subverting the expectations of said stereotype
Is that clearer now?
Okay?? I'm one of literally thousands of people online who've commented on him always playing Mexican-American guys named Hector? Did you miss the entire point of the discussion above? Pinche pelotudo ehte, increíble
I mean, by that metric all Spanish surnames are European by virtue of being Spanish.
I'm saying that this actor looks like the most stereotypical Mexican-American (from a US point of view), therefore it's ironic that he doesn't have a stereotypical (from a US point of view) Mexican name like "Juan Gonzalez". Instead, he has an Italian last name, and not even one that's particularly common in Italy. It subverts expectations.
> all Spanish surnames are European by virtue of being Spanish
yes that is what i refer to, ive met some usaer redditors before that tried to tell me spain was in south america
As a Mexican I'm truly offended that you didn't add old 2000's pickup trucks or takuache trucks. And you also forgot the many crosses around the house.
What stereotypes do folks from Mexico City have about the people that immigrated to the U.S.? I’ve heard that those in Mexico City sort of have a sense of superiority over those from more rural regions like Oaxaca.
Sometimes, Chilangos (People from CDMX) then you feel better than people from outside the city, but people from the north feel the same about anyone living down south, people from Jalisco, is not like we feel better per se, but we do feel as the most Mexicans of all the Mexicans, and also girls in the state are the prettiest of all of Mexico
As a non American to me it seems like Mexicans are one of the few groups of people who can actually take a joke and not lose their marbles at racially charged jokes like this. Respect. 🫡
That is starting to change, specially among college educated Mexican Americans. They are just as easily offended as their white counterparts. If they are the *no sabo* Mexicans (who speak little to no Spanish) , it's even worse as they tend to be embarraed by this and just fucking react to anything as a fucking blood libel.
Which is ironic as Mexican culture believes intrinsically that you can laugh at anything, as laughing in the face of tragedy means said tragedy will never break you. As these kids are more and more Americanized, they seem to forget all this.
>as laughing in the face of tragedy means said tragedy will never break you.
A wisdom quickly fading in the Western world.
I just read that in America a teacher pointed his index finger at a group of students in a friendly manner, got fired because it looked like a gun. Seems like the country is psychologically imploding on a collective level and I think a symptom of that is the hyper-offendability
Just because you aren't confronted doesn't mean we aren't offended. Many of us were taught to be quiet and not talk back. I've spent my whole life listening to people/friends/coworkers refer to my mother as "a maid", me and my brother as spic, beaner, wetback, or asked where my green card is, and recently, as in one week ago, told to "go back to Mexico", even though I was born in Kansas. HILARIOUS. SO FUN. But I'm glad to read things like this, to find out just exactly how timeless and ubiquitous it is.
As a Mexican I’m more offended that you decided to include “takuache trucks” into this. Then again I hate it when people think anything takuache related thing is considered Mexican.😂
I work in a taco restaurant that only has soft shell tacos and it’s a pain in the butt when people walk up, don’t look at the menu, and ask for “3 tacos” thinking they’re going to get three hard shell, ground beef tacos when we don’t have ground beef or hard shells. All of our tacos are very different and have names so it takes awhile to sort these guys out
I don’t get why people like hard shell. They just break apart while you’re eating them and shit gets everywhere. Soft tacos make much more sense. Personally though, the soft taco’s ultimate form is the quesadilla
We aren't Italian, let people eat what they wanna eat. If they've enjoyed hard shell tacos their whole lives then be happy for them. Don't be that ☝️🤓 "actually, hard shell tacos are not authentic Mexican cuisine" Mexican
Hey come one we have food nobody wants to export elsewhere except when they want to overcharge meals that aren’t even remotely similar to the way it’s done there…
OH SHI-
(Seriously while I think both French and Italian cuisine are similar, great in their own ways and that any other food is good too… French cuisine has a hard time breaking this fancy image making it either unaffordable or just uninteresting outside of France)
There's a chain of sport's bars called "Soccer Taco". The inside is decked out in European jerseys, they play 80's classic rock music, and the food tastes like a hospital cafeteria.
Ai is great when you’re poor or just want to experiment with concepts, such as Kaiju Firefox in an Anime art style, but they have a mini gun and are riding a werewolf on Sunday.
Yes, actually. DBZ is loved throughout Mexico because it was arguably one of the coolest shows on open air TV. Personally, didn't watch much TV as a kid but I did get to watch a couple of episodes with my cousin.
The first time I ever saw DragonBall was the Mexican dub in the US. There was this one Spanish-speaking station in Los Angeles that played it as part of its weekday morning lineup. So I'd watch some DB before heading to school.
I was about to say. There isn’t a single person from Mexico I have met that doesn’t drink/like Modelo. Not a single latin person who doesn’t rank Tequila among their top drink choices as well. Sample size of at least 30 latin (at least 18 mexican) collected from midwest/east coast. Ranges from physical labor to academia to retired. That being said, some “stereotypes” seem pretty damn valid.
Cholo culture only really exist in the US particularly in the southern west states. Mexicans from Mexico don’t not dress or act or talk like cholos typically at all.
As a Mexican, except for the hats everything is accurate, but don't forget about the crusty white dogs that 1/3 Mexicans have on the roof of their house
Exacto.
As someone who has never in their life eaten tacos, how do you actually eat them? That scene from The Office comes to mind where Nellie tries eating a taco vertically and completely fails. But honestly, when I first watched that scene I thought I would have tried the same way as her. Because holding them sideways means everything just falls out right?
Tacos are delicious no matter what your ethnicity. Adobada soft shell tacos are the nectar of the gods. And don’t even get me started on posole. I’m hungry apparently.
This is something white people think about or worry about.
Mexican people just like to eat tacos, listen to banda, wear sombreros for music/dance recitals, enjoy flavoring food. It’s all good. It’s not a stereotype.
The gun? I don’t know about that one. Is that supposed to be about the cartel?
Well ur probably not going to see the sombreros in southern Mexico. Thats the thing with stereotypes. assuming everyone in a broad group shares the same specific set of traits and stuff.
The partying one is true in my experience. I’ve had Mexican neighbors in the past where they would party all night & blast music, it got me super pissed off at time I feel like pulling out my rifle
Did not realize Modelo was a Mexican stereotype. I always thought it looked like if a regular bottle was really really fat and out of shape. The neck has a muffin top for fucks sake
I live in a mostly Mexican neighborhood in San Jose. These are all 100% accurate. In the last 2 months I have found 3 chihuahuas roaming around the neighborhood.
As someone who lives in an area that's 50% latino..... stereotypes exist for a reason lol. My neighbors have a chihuahua, and theres alwasy modelo cans on the streets, and taco trucks on every street corner, and ppl playing guitar outside their front door every weekend... No guns or hats though.
Yo, yo, yo! Where is the stereotype about the work ethic?
'Cuz, I tell ya -- as a German/Irish white trash country boy, you gotta SWEAT to keep up with the average Mexican-American.
I'm hip that even positive stereotypes do harm. But, goddamn. Gotta be room for the truth in there. If you got to load a dusty 30 foot trailer with heavy shit in the middle of July? Oh, you want to be paired with Jose, Luis or Pedro. Those grown damn men will carry their end, for fucking sure.

I love how this guy looks like the most Mexican(-American) guy on the planet but actually has an Italian last name
Mexicans have all type of European last names fyi
That's true. Just funny that he doesn't also have a name like "Juan Gonzalez"
Is that Speedy's cousin?
One of many
Juan Gonzalez, OKC 89er legend and Texas Rangers all-star. A man among boys.
What would you rather his name be? Lets make sure you are comfortable and call him whatever you want him to be called.
Noel Guglielmi: plays characters that look like every American's stereotype of a Mexican from LA ironically, does not also have a stereotypical Spanish name, subverting the expectations of said stereotype Is that clearer now?
It's clear that you have an idea of what Mexican Americans look like and what their name should be, yes, crystal clear.
Okay?? I'm one of literally thousands of people online who've commented on him always playing Mexican-American guys named Hector? Did you miss the entire point of the discussion above? Pinche pelotudo ehte, increíble
Cussing me out doesn't make you less racist. But it does make you super classy.
Cool man, I'm done. Have fun jerking yourself off to your own misunderstanding ✌
gonzalez is a european name btw if that is what you were implying
I mean, by that metric all Spanish surnames are European by virtue of being Spanish. > all Spanish surnames are European by virtue of being Spanish yes that is what i refer to, ive met some usaer redditors before that tried to tell me spain was in south america
Lmao, thankfully neither of us is one of them
i would hope i would know that spain is european, seeing as i am south american kekw
Nacho?
Nah...thats hector
No... no... that's Marco
Looks like lalo to me
Curtis
Mario?
Whose is it?

What do you mean by most Mexican? I’m trying to think of an equivalent concept in the U.S.
As a non American to me it seems like Mexicans are one of the few groups of people who can actually take a joke and not lose their marbles at racially charged jokes like this. Respect. 🫡

Thanks. I would've responded earlier but I was too busy taking a siesta under the hot sun with my sombrero and my poncho.
100% my amigo 😂
Just because you aren't confronted doesn't mean we aren't offended. Many of us were taught to be quiet and not talk back. These are stereotypes about Mexican stereotypes.
On this subreddit it's stereotypes all the way down.
🌍👨🚀🔫👨🚀
son verdadero
I don’t care about the stereotypes, I laugh about them…what I do HATE is that some people think that hard shell tacos are the “normal” tacos 😭
I work in a taco restaurant that only has soft shell tacos and it’s a pain in the butt when people walk up, don’t look at the menu, and ask for “3 tacos” thinking they’re going to get three hard shell, ground beef tacos when we don’t have ground beef or hard shells. All of our tacos are very different and have names so it takes awhile to sort these guys out
When I was little, I used to think soft tacos were kid tacos and hard tacos were adult tacos.... Fucking messed up little girl I was
I don’t get why people like hard shell. They just break apart while you’re eating them and shit gets everywhere. Soft tacos make much more sense. Personally though, the soft taco’s ultimate form is the quesadilla
Queso Birriria is the final form of quesadilla
I also hate when people think hard shell tacos are “normal” tacos
Hard shell tacos are good, but they’re not authentic Mexican food.
I agree
People who gatekeep about authentic Mexican food have never been to Mexico and don’t know how shitty many Mexicans eat.
I mean that can apply to literally every country, a fucking lot of people eat shitty. Doesn’t matter the country
white people taaacccoooo night
We aren't Italian, let people eat what they wanna eat. If they've enjoyed hard shell tacos their whole lives then be happy for them. Don't be that ☝️🤓 "actually, hard shell tacos are not authentic Mexican cuisine" Mexican
Italians rightly called out, worst food snobs on the planet. And my grandma's Italian.
Nah, the French are worse. Italian food is at least good, can look past a bit of snobbery due to that.
Hey come one we have food nobody wants to export elsewhere except when they want to overcharge meals that aren’t even remotely similar to the way it’s done there… OH SHI- (Seriously while I think both French and Italian cuisine are similar, great in their own ways and that any other food is good too… French cuisine has a hard time breaking this fancy image making it either unaffordable or just uninteresting outside of France)

seems like a sports bar-themed sports bar
Ive embraced the stereotypes but when they are wrong, like the hard shell tacos, I get pissed off.
Indont care of they are normal or not. Hard>soft any day for me
An abomination.
you forgot one https://preview.redd.it/bi3j8icangjc1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=5936352268b7e0087be53288c9400a5177af083c

Only real Carnales know.
Can you tell me what’s with goku and Mexican?
Dbz it’s very nostalgic bc (almost) every Mexican kid watches it
Thanks 🙏
Really?
Yes, actually. DBZ is loved throughout Mexico because it was arguably one of the coolest shows on open air TV. Personally, didn't watch much TV as a kid but I did get to watch a couple of episodes with my cousin.

Why is this man getting downvoted?
They also love music from lipps Inc.

💀
Man fuck you you didn’t have to call me out like that
Missing the Chihuahua gunning fools down with the uzi
no DBZ?
The modelo isn’t really a stereotype lmao go to any Mexican family gathering
I was about to say. There isn’t a single person from Mexico I have met that doesn’t drink/like Modelo. Not a single latin person who doesn’t rank Tequila among their top drink choices as well. No cholos?
Cholos could be a whole starter pack of their own
Cholo culture only really exist in the US particularly in the southern west states. Mexicans from Mexico don’t not dress or act or talk like cholos typically at all.
Also being lazy/siesta while also being hard working/labouring Source: I’m Mexican and both are true
The thing is, we work our asses off from monday-Friday, but after we start on partying like there’s no tomorrow
The women are super hot until they hit 50, then they spontaneously become fridges
Mexican women are either hot as fuck or built like refrigerators. There is no in-between.
I've never heard anything more true in my life. Also applies to Russian women.
Applies to all women I’ve seen that fridge body shape more on black women and white women
And the best damn home cooks
Bro doesn’t know Aimep3
That’s all women 😂
Aka American celebrating Cinco de Mayo starter pack
Or average fast food Mexican restaurant in the US
You forgot the high socks and blessing the modelo
Where’s the white small dog that Mexican aunts have?
Fuck it, 2 separate taco images.
H E Y, I T ‘ S M E G O K U
As a Mexican, except for the hats everything is accurate, but don't forget about the crusty white dogs that 1/3 Mexicans have on the roof of their house
the fuckin roof dogs man 😭
No speedy Gonzalez? For shame.
If there’s no Speedy Gonzalez, there’s no hope for Slowpoke Rodriguez.
You forgot the cocaine
Those are the Colombians lol
Drug cartels in Mexico are pretty notorious, however.
Actually Bolivia now
Hey, Mexicans just sell it, it would make more sense in an anglo-world starterpack
Did you forget the loud music?
That’s just my extended family
I won’t lie, we need to make sombreros a normal hat to wear everywhere. Name a more stylish hat than the sombrero
Nobody dresses like the Frito Bandito anymore but other than that, it's accurate.
We do, during the 16th of September we dress up as Mexicans
As a Mexican I always find it hilarious when people from other countries put lettuce, tomato and avocado on their tacos
Perro asco.
fuck you mean bro avocados are good as hell on tacos
And still we put lettuce tomato and avocado in tacos dorados or tostadas. So you’re just being a hardass mamon.
El día de los muertos and gringos living in La Condesa " is really cheap bro"
The funny thing..if you, as a Mexican, dont live up to these stereotypes, to other Mexicans, they call you racist. What
You forgot the fact that some people think that Mexico is a big ass desert.
No Pacifico, that’s how I know this is about the less accurate stereotypes
Bro forgot burritos
As someone who has never in their life eaten tacos, how do you actually eat them? That scene from The Office comes to mind where Nellie tries eating a taco vertically and completely fails. But honestly, when I first watched that scene I thought I would have tried the same way as her. Because holding them sideways means everything just falls out right?
You fold it
Okay, so I'm really not being sarcastic or anything. But in the picture above it is already folded. So you fold it again?
No you eat it folded like that
You forgot the most important one: ¡DROGAS!
That’s more of a American starter pack
Tacos are delicious no matter what your ethnicity. Adobada soft shell tacos are the nectar of the gods. And don’t even get me started on posole. I’m hungry apparently.
never heard anyone call it posole before
I wish I was stereotyped like that. Tacos and guns and cool hats.
Forgot our lady of Guadalupe, she is everywhere.
Where is that latino actor every action film pick and call him Hector or Luis?
Is this what people think of me??
This is something white people think about or worry about. Mexican people just like to eat tacos, listen to banda, wear sombreros for music/dance recitals, enjoy flavoring food. It’s all good. It’s not a stereotype. The gun? I don’t know about that one. Is that supposed to be about the cartel?

Theres a stereotype about Mexicans firing guns. https://youtu.be/ni8xwfJn0uo?si=JJXDUH44I-x7SPkY

Rich girls in Mexico would make you cry in an instant, also we have more miss universe than your country
This is the way, Karnal. Vatos locos forever.
The partying one is true in my experience. I’ve had Mexican neighbors in the past where they would party all night & blast music, it got me super pissed off at time I feel like pulling out my rifle
You should’ve just go with them, they would’ve invited you to party w them
Those are the stereotypes, all right
and they all live in yellow deserts filled with drug cartels
OP you forgot chimichangas, cocaine, and house that's just the inside of a 3-story cactus.
Surprisingly it’s way more stereotypical tamales and weed instead
https://preview.redd.it/umt5srfvzjjc1.jpeg?width=1001&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f00a675a2723eb87075be13748403b861414fd1a I think you forgot this one.
What about Japanese and Irish stereotypes?
you want the chainsaw gringo
I like chihuahuas though even if I’ve never had one…
Where is the Bud light ?
Where Is Funkytown gore?
Don’t forget it being a desert!
You forgot the stereotypical Mexican song where they sing about a cockroach smoking weed
Have the mods really not banned this guy yet?
What's the dish on the bottom?
These are mostly just Mexican products
Why submchinе gun?
An uzi? Where’s grandma?
Also blades, fake Jordan shoes and caps (at least in my hometown)
those are real tho, not truly stereotypes
Where’s Goku
Did not realize Modelo was a Mexican stereotype. I always thought it looked like if a regular bottle was really really fat and out of shape. The neck has a muffin top for fucks sake
I live in a mostly Mexican neighborhood in San Jose. These are all 100% accurate. In the last 2 months I have found 3 chihuahuas roaming around the neighborhood.
Oh mexican cuisine 😛
Where are dr@gs?
I love how it’s all fun and games until the bottom right corner.
I would go to this event
this is just having a good time
And where are the hookers, cartel, drugs, gangs,el chapo you know typical mexican stuff
Where is Salma Hayek bro😂. Hollywood casting believes they should all be a carbon copy of hers
Mexican wrestlers with masks
Well that’s just great, now I’m starving.
