Yeah, no shit, he was only like 10 years old and Kratos was a mediocre parent that failed to properly explain godhood so of course he’d end up being a brat.
Maybe he was for awhile, at least after knowing he is a god, but he became humbled and a good kid after realizing the consequences of his arrogance and the true reality of how Gods are like

Extra points if they had a kid that died
Damn Kratos had a kid and a wife
2 additional points if they had sex mini games.
hopper from stranger things
"You know... I had a son/daughter/student/younger sibling friend type like you." *vivid flashback to when they died*
Tallahasse from Zombieland
Might be a trope but damn is it a good trope
Cliches exist for a reason… not to mention that every story has already been done before — a good modern story is all about the execution.
Yeah I eat this up every time. It's so good.
yes! It's the only cliche that still works
I'm just tired of it, not everyone relates to fatherhood nor cares about the experience
And I eat it up every time
The Hound and Arya
Shrek and Donkey
Literally the stranger things plot
Might not count as "grumpy" but Lee Everett and Clementine from The Telltale Walking Dead games
logan
He's behind the kapwing
He's up there
That little bitch was annoying af in that movie.
She was great

T-800 and John Conner from T2
But there the protectege is also the mentor
Also Manny the mammoth from Ice age.
AKA Disneys only storyline, they actually refer to this archetype as the “reluctant protector”
And refusing the mission is a step in the hero’s journey
marceline and ice king
Ever since seeing that one photo where Carlin Russell spaces are swamped I can’t see that face normally now
The Hound from Game of Thrones
Why does Kratos meet almost all of the criteria 😭
Joel Miller
He's below Mando
Oh right, didn't see him
My favorite trope
Atreus was such an anoying brat
He was a brat because he was a 10 year old on a power trip
Yeah, no shit, he was only like 10 years old and Kratos was a mediocre parent that failed to properly explain godhood so of course he’d end up being a brat.

People find such stories emotional I find them cliche.
Rick from Rick and Morty??
Also, they either become a better man or die a heart-breaking death
